Epson printing with intel chip

the Gimp print 5.0.0 Beta 2 pre-installed on my new iMac (intel chip) does not allow me to access the printer utilities to adjust the printer calibration, check the ink levels or even clean the heads. does anyone know how to address the problem? is there a solution or a new beta version already?

The Epson utilities don't work with Gimp-Print
drivers. Try adding your printer using the More
Printers > Epson USB driver method.
Thanks Greg, but it doesn't work - the Epson USB options I get are for higher-end printers and they do not recognise a 1160. It attempts to print and then stalls and later prints some gobbledeegook. Apparently Epson will not re-write drivers for older printer models - would my only chance be printing from a non intel-chip computer linked on the network or is there another (software related) option?
Thanks,
Manfredi

  • Sharp AR-C330      Cant print PDF with Intel chips

We have no problem to print anything but PDF on the Sharp printer when using a Mac with Intel chips. The same document is printed very well on older Macs that are not Intel.
Sharp is helpless on this matter.
    Thanks for your input.

Hi La__La, and a warm welcome to the forums!
First, as a test, I'd Print to a PDF file on an IntelMac, move the file to a PPC Mac, and try printing it from there... to help narrow down the problem.

  • How do I update my iMAC with Intel chips beyond 10.4.11 ?

From the days of the Apple 1 until the days of the first Mac I was an Apple user. Then corporate America drug me away kicking and screaming to the Windows world. Now I have bought a used iMac with Intel chips to use as an Apple Forensics test machine. However, I need to update it as far as I can go and can't seem to locate the information on the net/ Do I need to go to Amazon and get a disc?
This iMac has served to remind me just how great Apples are. Can not wait to retre!
    Thank you.

Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)

  • New G5 towers with intel chips

Does anyone out there know when Apple plans to release the G5 towers with intel chips? I waiting for the Quad G5 with core duo intel chip. Anyone heard anything?

Might want to take a look at www.techreport.com (though there are lots of sites with information on Intel chips and roadmaps).
Intel will launch six on June 19 with model numbers ranging from 5110 to 5160 in increments of 10. The chips will reportedly run at 1.6 GHz, 1.86 GHz, 2.0 GHz, 2.33 GHz, 2.66 GHz, and 3.0 GHz with 4 MB of L2 cache across the board, as well as front side bus speeds of 1,066 MHz for the 1.6 and 1.86 GHz models and 1,333 MHz for the rest.
    AMD isn't sitting idle either.
    Also,

    Core 2 Quad
One thing about Intel, there is always going to be lots of reports about what to expect, code name, specs, performance. And it will be very busy 2H for 2007 for Intel.
Heat is important to servers, IT, as well as the living room. The cost of power, to cool systems, and size, can factor into and cost more long term than the cost of a system.
Optimizing OS X for these along with software is going to take time. Adobe said to expect CS3 sometime 2Q or so 2007. The G5 Quad is still a good system. Quad Core Intel chips are expected in 2008, which will be another step up.

  • Epson Printing with Tiger 10.4.11

Thought I'd enlist the help of the "heavy hitters" of this forum...
You may know of this problem, but I just became aware of it. Upon reactivating my trusty Epson Stylus Color 1160 printer this week (and a long while since upgrading from Panther), I discovered that the Epson printer drivers no longer work, nor does the Epson Print Utility (which is supposed to be used for alignment, head cleaning and nozzle test).
It means that, because I'm running a PowerPC machine, I can no longer print my valuable archives of large scale high resolution Southwest photos... which I have optimized for certain ICC Color Profiles in ColorSync.
Epson tells me they're no longer supporting the software for the 1160 and they refuse to help, other than to refer me to use the GIMP Print drivers that shipped with OS X 10.4.11.
No offense to Apple or SourceForge (who make these drivers), but this solution is laughable. First of all, I can't find any ColorSync facility built into the GIMP interface in Tiger; and, secondly, the print image size in the GIMP drivers seems to be seriously bolloxed (as my 13" x 19" test printout printed at 8-1/2" x 11" EXCEPT for a 3/8" band in the middle that was actually 13" x 19").
Yes, I have downloaded, but not yet installed the most recent GIMP drivers ("GutenPrint") from sourceforge, but have to admit I don't have the confidence to apply them...
Please let me know any thoughts and recommendations... Thanks!

BDAqua, thanks for your kind and generous response.
1.) "Since it's a Dual Boot, can you use the OS9 drivers?"
Beats me... I print from Photoshop 7. I can't remember if the program runs under OS 9; nor do I know if running Photoshop under Tiger would let me select an OS 9 printer driver, in lieu of a Tiger driver.
2.) "Does this old OSX driver work?"
It's the same one I had installed under Panther (and the one Epson is still offering), but it doesn't show up at print time.
    3.) "Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4... "
Not sure if this is the ticket -- I surmise the installation of Tiger installs the GIMP drivers, in precedence to the Epson (1.2Ba) driver -- or at least somehow the Tiger print routine won't invoke the old Epson Driver (which I never uninstalled).
4.) " ...I wouldn't be surprised that you could use a later Epson Driver and/or habd edit the PPD to the correct dimensions."
Wow. I assume such editing would exceed my skills (and I'm not familiar with the term "habd"). Are there instructions, somewhere?
5.) "If it uses 4 inks perhaps the Epson WorkForce 1100 Wide-format Printer driver would work?"
A creative thought. I've never looked into the structure of PPDs (or drivers), and have been assuming that either a.) the literal printer name would govern invocation of the code, or b.) Epson might have told me if another set of drivers and utilities might work, or c.) if they abandoned updating their 1160 software for Tiger and PowerPC, they well might have thrown the rest of their printers overboard, as well. I'll try to look into this...
Why can't life be simple, the way it used to be... *:=)
After a series of e-mail love letters back and forth between myself and the company, today I asked Customer Relations for the address of the CEO in Japan, so I could ship my boat anchor back to him, personally.
    Appreciate your help.

  • EPSON Printing with Leopard --- Less options than in 10.4?

    Hello -
Small graphic design business -- using an EPSON 1280 for printing invoices/proofs etc...
Since updating to 10.5 we can't print with the proper paper --- selecting from the EPSON printer pulldown - under print settings -- only to "Matte paper - Heavyweight" - the option to print on Plain Paper, 360 inkjet paper, photo quality ink jet paper and others is grayed out --
We need to print on "plain paper" for invoices and can't figure it out -- also will pose problems with printing proofs for clients -- .. We have tried RE-installing EPSON 1280 print software (twice) to no avail -- ALSO --- the EPSON print untility - used to check ink levels, clean printer etc... -- does not work with LEOPARD 10.5 ---
Does anyone have a solution for this ?
    THANK YOU!

That the utility doesn't work is usually an indication that the driver being used is not Epson's proprietary driver. Try deleting and re-adding the printer using Epson's Leopard driver. That may also help with the paper choices. (There is another thread on this here somewhere.)
    Hope this helps.

  • Power PC software with Intel Chips

    Hi,
I am looking at purchasing the Adobe Creative package, and it says the required hardware is a G4 or G5 PowerPC processor. That works with my iBook, but I don't want the software to be useless when I get a new computer. Is the older software compatible with new chips? I seem to remember reading that it is, but I wanted to make sure.
    Thanks

    Just to add...
The software will not require more memory but rather the software needed to run the PPC program (Rosetta) will - and it will run slower than on a top of the line PPC machine ...especially when tasking it.
You may want to check but I'm fairly certain that if you bought the PPC Suite you would be able to upgrade to the Intel version when it is released.

  • Macs with intel chips query

Help please I have been holding out for the Mac mini to be upgraded to the intel chip which is now available but I am faced with a dilema. My son who will be princple user has special needs and most of his apps run on system 9 which I have found out today will not run under Rosetta. Most of his software will however run on windows. Does anyone know if its possible to boot an intel mac to run windows or if it might be available in the future. I dont want to turn to windows if possible as he has always got on well with his ageing G3 running OS9 and our G4 running OS 10.4

You can run emulator on Intel Core Mac's. I am aware that Microsoft and Apple differ in vision of VirtualPC and am not aware wheather Rosetta supports VirtualPC emulator.
However, there is shareware iEmulator wchich works fine with Windows, DOS, Linux emulation on Mac's. I had brief exchange with one of their engineers about supporting Intel based Mac's in terms of realasing Universal version of iEmulator. They are preping for that and they should do that soon.
Now I find any PC emulation very slow on Mac' I have tried Windows 98, Windows 2000 and SUSE Linux 10. All of them work and even get some choppy audio (emulated Soundblaster), but if one means Windows gaming then I would drop emulation of any type. Gaming requires fast native environment.
BTW emulators like iEmulator support Internet so you can do browsing and e-mailing with Windows tools.
If just running program for Windows is what you want on Mac then you may give it try (bring-your-own-windows):
    http://www.iemulator.com
But I wouls not say that without fast CPU this is usable solution.
Now, I already have Intel Core Duo Mac mini. It is not lightning fast. My PC with Celeron D 2.8 that built myself is faster... and it was cheaper. Mac Mini is just like a laptop/notebook without keyboard, mouse and monitor. It has much better organized, really user fiendly system... called... Mac OS X which makes it worth buing and using as primary computer. I use my PC only as a backup since computing world is crazy and to many it is MS-Windows synonym... stupidly enough.

  • Office on mac mini with intel chip

Will Office X run on a mac mini with an intel chip? I have a friend that just bought one and he is wondering if he should buy office now or wait for a new version to come out.

Installs and runs fine on my Duo. If it's bought now, you'd also be entitled to buy the next version at the upgrade price (well, that's how it's worked with the PC versions of Office) so it'll save a bit of money in the process

  • Does Motion 2 work with Intel chip and or Tiger 10.4.10

I am having a problem with my Motion 2.01 crashing when I open anything. I have come to believe it is a problem with the Intel chip in my new computer or my fully upgraded Tiger OS because I have gotten it to work on an older computer without the chip or updated OS. Has anone experienced this problem and if so what can be done about it? Please help! Thanks. -Michael-

The problem is with the Intel processor and not the OS. You'll have to go to Final Cut Studio 2 and Motion 3 in order to work in your Intel-Mac. Check the System requirements before doing so, if this is your intention.

  • Trying to Connect Wireless Epson Printer with Time Capsule

Greetings. I am a regular Mac user and using Mac for several years now. However, I am a new to network administration. I have a Linksys wireless router that syncs our 5 Macs (one iPad-1 iMac and three MacBook Pros), plus 4 Windows PC's we have in our network. I recently decided to purchase a Time Machine, and further our use of Apple technology in wireless devices. I want to back up all my computer's files to Time Machine and use the Airport Extreme functions of Time Machine while discontinuing the use of my LinkSys router. However, I can't get my Epson WorkForce 600 to wirelessly connect to Time Capsule in order to use the scanner & fax functions. Connecting the printer by USB enables the printer function, but disables all other functions of the printer (fax-scan, etc.).
I tried downloading new Epson drivers and couldn't get some of them to install. This time My iMac wouldn't install the .dmg files. I tried opening the .dmg file and installing. The pop up box requiring my administrator password, kept flashing when I tried to enter my password. Since I couldn't get the .dmg files to install, my plan to update Epson driver's didn't work. Question #1: I am looking for advice how to install these weird disk image files ?
I turned off my Time Capsule, re-connected the LinkSys to the cable modem and all my wireless functions work again, especially my printer. Sadly, no Time Capsule.
I read another discussion suggestion connecting both wireless devices together. I assume since I want to use Time Capsule that I set it up with the modem and connect the other router to it via one of the four ethernet connections. I didn't want to try this until I received further advice. I am hoping I can connect my LinkSys router to Time Capsule and use the printer through the LinkSys connection with all other computers on my network.
Question #2: How can I get my Time Capsule to find the Epson so I can use it again, or should I just use the LinkSys router connected to the printer?
Thank you in advance for help.

This sounds as if you are trying to use instructions that are more than 2 years old at this point, but you are using a new version of AirPort Utility Utility in Lion or Mountain Lion....which would not track or apply to the older instructions.
Can you confirm what operating system that you are using on the Mac that is being used to configure devices?
The new AirPort Express will connect directly to the Time Capsule using an Ethernet connection, correct?

  • IMac with intel chip won't pair with Nokia 7370

I was trying to pair my Nokia 7370 with my iMac and got nowhere. Neither device "sees" the other.
Both are set up to be visible
Both have their bluetooth turned on
I attempted to initiate the pairing from the computer and from the phone--no luck on either.
I was able to pair the phone with a BT headset, so I know the phone's bluetooth works with some things.
I was also able to pair the computer with a windows machine, so that works sometimes as well.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Someone really needs to write a full tutorial on this. Your switch to the intel Mac changes everything. This is brief by point.
    1) AVI containers are usually hiding DivX and XviD codecs. Download and install the latest for your intel Mac to allow your Quicktime Player to play those files.
    2) WMV files have a few options: install WMV9 (unsupported for Mac); Popwire components for Quicktime (local files only): F4M public components (requires a Rosetta install and/or Rosetta functioning players/browsers; F4M beta universal. My preference is the last option, which allows both local files and web files to play native on your Quicktime Player.
Everything outlined above is available in these forums and will get you up to speed.

  • Printers compatible with OSX on macbookpro with intel chip

Can anyone reccommend a printer for the macbookpro which seamlessly prints photos from iphoto 6? I have an HP 8250 and it is a pain and doesn't work.

I've had very positive results with my Canon PIXMA IP8500. Canon put out new drivers very quickly.
I'm getting great photo printing from the MBP, either directly hooked up to the printer or via wireless printer sharing with my PowerMac. Borderless printing works well.
I also like the Canon's double-sided print feature for documents -- saves a lot of paper.
