Epson R-1800

I've tried to install my Epson on my iMac G5 with Intel Core 2 Duo, but OS X doesn't recognize the printer... (I've installed it before on another port now there's a new installation) Well it does but I can't select it in the printer selection window... nor can I delete it! It's very annoying as I can't use the printer as it is!
Help is welcome!

There doesn't seem to be any "OS X print window" that comes up, other than the little indicator window.  It does not give me any options for any kind of papers, inks, etc., nothing like that appears.  When I click on "preview" the Preview program pops up with the image in it, and again there are no options for any kind of specialized paper or inks.
I'm not talking about paper size here, I'm talking about glossy and matte photo papers, etc.  All the sizes seem to be switchable, but plain paper is the only option.
Also, the link to the Epson support page link posted by another respondent was not working.  I searched through the Epson site for support, but it appears that they do not support this printer anymore, or at least not with OSX 10.6!  I can find the Epson Stylus Photo 1900, but not the 1800.
Very strange, all this.  I'll have to go back to Windows to be able to get things printed.  Extremely disappointed, I thought Mac was supposed to work so easily with no hang-ups.  -J.

  • CS3 Leopard Epson R1800 driver problems solved (hopefully)

Trying to put this post in searchable terms for others having the same problem finding the answer -- new to mac.
Everybody knows that you need to go to epson.com and download the new mac leopard drivers for most of the printers, including R1800. But the new driver won't install correctly unless you go into Library/Printers/ and move the entire "EPSON" folder into the trash can before double clicking the VISE install icon on the downloaded package. (Maybe there is another way to make it work, but mine wouldn't actually install and start working till I did this.)
If you have the right driver, you will see "EPSON SP R1800 (1)" as your driver in System Preferences/Print&Fax. Also, you will see "Print Settings", "Roll Paper Option", "Expansion" and "Extension Settings" as options in the pulldown menu in the epson print dialog through PS CS3 (after hitting print in the first print dialog box). There is also a "basic" and "Advanced" choice under Print Settings.
If you still have the wrong driver, you won't get any errors, but the new dialog box won't show up. The old driver that doesn't work shows up (I think I remember correctly) as EPSON SPR 1800 in your System Preferences window. No parenthetical. Also, if you have the old bad driver, in the epson print dialog box, you see a different set of options, and no 'basic' and 'advanced' choice under print settings.
I hope that helps some people. I was having a hard time knowing if I had the new driver actually working (even though I thought I installed it). Turns out I didn't! Thanks to random post by John McWilliams and Duane Ellison (who posted screenshot of new dialog in the LR forum), I figured out the thing with the Epson folder. Now let's just hope the prints look good!

    Hi Laura.
Isn't that the most frustrating thing in the world? Anyway, that isn't the right driver. That is the one that ships with Leopard (or something, I don't know - anyway, wrong one).
Try deleting the EPSON folder again, deleting your printer from system prefs/print fax, reinstalling the driver and re-finding your printer. Now that I think about it, I did that, and generally fiddled around in there a bit, before it worked.
I don't know how Macs associate printers with drivers (I'm a PC person and missing my PC!), but once the software in the dmg package was properly installed, the printer automatically picked up the EPSON SP R1800 (1) driver when I told it to go look for printers. I didn't have to choose it from the list of drivers.
    Hope that helps.

  • Random jobs stopping print queue

I have 3 printers attached to my iMac via a USB hub, a canon i9100, an epson SP 220 and an epson SP 1800. I have experienced this with all of the printers, so I don't believe it is a problem with the printer software.
Most of the time everything works perfectly. But approximately 10% of the time the document will just not print. I thought it might be something to do with InDesign, since 99% of the documents I print are from InDesign, but I have experienced the problem with TextEdit files, emails, web pages (camino and safari).
There doesn't seem to be any particular cause. The job will queue up, and then all the sudden the printer will stop all jobs. The only way to get them started is to delete the job from the queue. The strangest part is that SOMETIMES reprinting the document will work fine, while other times it just continues to stop the print queue.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Or is it just a ghost in my machine.
    iMac 17 1GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It's possible that you have a corrupt font. That will stop a printer. Check the fonts you are using in a document that's causing problems, and maybe change the font, and see if it works. It's easier if you have a font check utility like suitcase.
If you dont, maybe figure out what page of a document is causing the printer to stop. That will narrow the search.

  • Problem printing changed page background color

I have changed the page backgound colour in custom package and it shows the colour (green) on the monitor and in preview but the printer does not seem to recognise the colour - the background when printed is black.  I can trun off the colour and get a white background, but I would like a green background!!.
LR 3.5, Win7 and Epson SPR 1800.  Printer colour management off, correct profile used.
    Any help gratefully received.

The program creating the file is ReScan. I can print the file before I open with Acrobat. If I make any changes to the file, I am unable to print from Acrobat those pages which had changes made, even thou they show on the monitor fine. If I print to CutePDF Writer instead of directly to one of my three printers (I get the same result with all three different printers) then I can print the CutePDF Writer file.
The fonts I am editing are installed on my system. Not sure what I am doing wrong to cause the program not to print. Don't want to have to use CutePDF every time I need to print. The program should be able to print an edited and saved document.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • My Photoshop CS (£500 at the time) will not work with Windows 7, what am I supposed to do about it?

I have just spent at least two hours messing about trying to activate my Photoshop CS (using a new hard disk) until finally being told (via a long useless telephone call and  two long chat sessions) why I can't activate it, and also that it cannot be replaced by CS2 because that is only for Windows XP which of course is to be faded out next year! It seems to me unreasonable that such a large expenditure (£500 at the time) should be casually dismissed as CS being 'not being compatible with...'  and it being a very  'old' program. It was working well for me. Why am I supposed to have to pay for another version? Is this even legal? At the very least there should be some special offer for people in my position.
    Photoshop justify this?

Dear Old Bob..I enjoyed that! I and thanks so much ...I would have done it if I could have done it but I was blocked by Photoshop at every stage! Thankfully my own IT Guru and friend came to the rescue remotely last night and has down-loaded it. But it took him quite a bit of time.
As XP is  faded out, there will be an awful lot of people like me complaining.
But truth is my problems are only at a start! About 30 prints (some not yet on my 'blog' (juliamatcham.wordpress.com) all have varying settings which I have noted. Everything depends on these settings.
All are Apple RGB (although my computer is a PC) and they were all set for my printer Epson Photo 1800. Also they were set at varying settings...Standard or Vivid 1.5, 2.5 whatever suited the design.
These settings appear not to exist on CS2 which is a nightmare for me as each print was carefully proofed with a great deal patience and at some expense as in the end one has to use expensive paper even for proofing.
If you have any hints for how to translate these old settings...I would kiss your feet!
Just looking through how things work, I can't understand why I can't change my first printing option to landscape ...everything esle so far seems comprehensible.
    I do hate change!
Meanwhile, thanks so much to Curt, Noel, Nahraka and Old Bob for cheering me on. I am obviously going to be back asking more questions about CS2!

  • Printing problems with CS4.

    Dear members:
After several attempts to print black-and-white photos in Photoshop CS4 I decided to give up and seek help.
I have followed the steps I believe are the right ones and the same I have used before with previous versions of Photoshop. First I applied the command Image > Adjustments > Black & White ... and my color photo became black-and-white on screen. I made an attempt to print but the print came out looking blueish (as if it had some kind of blue duotone applied to it). Second I tried the same settings and also set the printer (an Epson R 1800 photo printer) to black instead of color. Again the same result. In my last attempt I converted the image using the same command above (Image > Adjustments > Black & White ...), then I used the command Image > Adjustments > Desaturate and after that I applied the command Image > Mode > Grayscale. In addition to all these steps I also entered black in the printer dialog box instead of color. Still the print came out blueish just as it had before.
What must one do to "convince" Photoshop to print a color photo as a true black-and-white image ?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Joseph

Thanks Milenium. I appreciate your response. Yes I do work in RGB. The profile is sRGB IEC 61966-2.1( The same as for all the photos) The monitor profile (Sony SDM-HS95P-DVI-D) is set at the system as well as the HP printer profile. I would like to update what has happened since my last post:
I reinstalled CS3 and installed a Canon Pixima 9000. The Cannon was just as much a mess as the HP vibrant colors and dark muddy prints, but the Canon had another problem...It was shifting red-magenta to yellow -orange However what I learned is that CS3 and CS4 were sharing some functions and settings even though I had the syncronization function turned off I.E, color settings, and working space. I couldn't bother with the Canon and since it was a loaner I took it out of the equationfor the time being. Next I read a post from 2004 on some web site from folks who were having similar problems with CS3 and HP printers( I never had a problem with this combo and as previously mentioned I do a great deal of wide printing with pretty good gosh darn results) Howerer, a poster said that she went into the system printer profile and deleted any profile there, then set up CS3 with no color management, and set the print function on the HP at application managed color( which she believed to be HP's no color management at the printer if if no color management is selected in photoshop. KInd of makes sense, she attained a 90% improvement in her prints. Well I gave it a shot and set everything up just as she suggested including the deleting of all the system printer files and got the same results as she did in back in 2004. A step foward I hope. If you have any other suggestions please let me know. My next step would be to remove Design Premium and see if that has any effect on restoring CS3 to it's previous standard vanilla set up of let the printer manage the color with the sRGB IEC 61966-2 profile.

  • Printing w/Epson 1800 Stops

Aperture has suddenly developed a problem printing. I go through the steps to send a photo to my epson 1800 but nothing will print. I can print successfully from any other application, so I do not believe there is a problem with my printer driver. I am using presets that have worked until now, so I know it is not that I am not setting something in the print settup window. But nothing from Aperture will print.
When I click the print button, the printer driver window for the Epson 1800 will not open. If it is open (from having just printed from another app) it will show the image file in the print list, but the job will stop. No number of clicking the start jobs button will get it going.
Any ideas of what is wrong? It seems to be an issue emanating from Aperture...
    -Sol

Ah, that Sheetfeeder--Borderless comment tweaked a neuron. Now I remember what the problem is: You must select a paper type (e.g., glossy photo, not plain paper) that's compatible with borderless printing. Sometimes it seems like Aperture (or OS X) forgets that you've selected a particular paper type before, and it reverts to Plain Paper (I think this is because the Aperture Print dialog reverts to Letter Size paper).
The printer will refuse to print borderless on Plain Paper.
Unfortunately, it doesn't give any error message; it just stops the print queue.
What I've found is that, in Aperture's Print dialog, you must select the Paper Size first (i.e., Sheet Feeder - Borderless). Then choose the Printer Settings button, and then below the Presets popup menu, select the Printer Settings popup menu item, and then select an appropriate (borderless-compatible) paper type. If you've already selected a borderless paper size in Aperture's Print dialog, then only compatible papers will be selectable here.

  • Matching Color Epson 1800

Using the EPSON R1800 and following the color management steps, I am unable to match the color in Lightroom with the printer. All the profiles have been downloaded etc. I even calibrated the monitor. The photos are in raw and look great on screen after edit in Lightroom but print out darker. I have to really jack up the exposure. Any help out there to get things calibrated. Would really like the printer to put out what is in Lightroom.
    Thanks

Among other things do you have the gama set to 2.2 for your screen?
Aside from that Epson printers printing darker is a much discussed issue. Try a search on this Forum 'Printing Dark.'

  • Does iMac support epson 1800 printers  with os 10.6.8?

I am trying to use an epson R1800 printer with my iMac.  It prints very dark photos that do not match the screen image.  Does this OS support these printers. Have other users seen this problem.  Is there any help out there?

If you upgrade an iOS device to iOS 7, iTunes version 10.7 is sufficient.
iTunes 11.1.3 does indeed work on OS X 10.6.8. To my knowledge, iTunes 10.7 will also run on OS X 10.6.8.

  • Epson scan under Lion with image capture

The first scan I made with image capture at 150dpi appeared usable.
However the letter scanned was no longer white but slightly green and pink and the file size was at 3,8Meg!
    A pdf at 150dpi for an A4          :          3,8M
    A jpg at 150dpi for an A4          :          549Kb
    A pdf at 96dpi for an A4           :          1,5M
    A jpg at 96dpi for an A4           :          209Kb
With the Epson Scanner Software I had good rendering and an A4 page was around 100 and 200Kb in jpg or pdf.
What’s going on! The new software caused a 1800% increase in the file size!
I am stuck with my scanner and papers.
    The image correction is limited.
The pdf files created are enormous.
There is no way we want to work and start to store this files!
A quick solution is needed to correct the situation.

A bit of history taken from Wikipedia:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosetta_%28software%29
Rosetta is a dynamic binary translator for Mac OS X which allows many PowerPC applications to run on certain Intel-based Macintosh computers without modification. Apple released Rosetta in 2006 when it transitioned the Macintosh platform from the PowerPC to Intel processor microarchitecture. The name "Rosetta" is a reference to the Rosetta Stone, the discovery of which made it possible to comprehend and translate Egyptian hieroglyphs.
Rosetta is based on QuickTransit technology.[1] It has no graphical user interface, which led Apple to describe Rosetta as "the most amazing software you'll never see."[2]
Rosetta was initially included with Mac OS X v10.4.4 "Tiger", the version that was released with the first Intel-based Macintosh models.[3]
Mac OS X v10.6 "Snow Leopard" does not include Rosetta by default but retains an option in the installer for the user to include it. It can also be automatically installed by the system if needed at a later time.
Mac OS X v10.7 "Lion" neither includes nor supports Rosetta at all. Therefore, with Lion, the current Macintosh platform drops support for PowerPC applications.
    " WIKIPEDIA.
The discs  wich came with a scan are mainlly PowerPC.
Epson no more do Scan software, driver yes to be used by Image Capture or other.
They are all the same, want to sell hardware not software.
For me, To stay at a reasonable file size limit, I do clear choice between what will be B&W and color.
In Image Capture : the Black and White can be treated directly in PDF, using:
    - Image correction :
         - Contrast to full
         - Brightness one step
With color I have quite no choice, JPEG:
    - Image correction
         - Brightness +3
After in a viewer I do a color autolevel.
If I want it in PDF, save in PDF and finally apply a "in house" Filter from ColorSync Utility.
I don't use the built in "reduce file size", it's too extrem and the results are very poor.
    Regards

  • Has anyone solved an Epson printing problem?

After I upgraded to Leopard, I noticed that my printing on my Epson Stylus Photo R1800 was poor in quality to say the least. I tried all of the usual troubleshooting techniques and then emailed Epson. They directed me to a new driver, and they also said that I had to "reset" my old printer driver. I followed directions (even though their directions weren't exactly correct), and I managed to print about five decent prints, but now my printer is back to its old crappy printing, with incorrect color, banding, and no menu in the print dialog box where I can save my choice of papers & resolutions, etc. I have tried to email Espon three more times, but they are not responding to me.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks.

I am using two Macs -- an Imac Power PC, and a MacBook Pro (intel). Leopard has screwed up printing on both. I just went to the Epson website, and while I find a new release driver, it is labelled "Printer Driver v3.0aAs" and it says it was posted on 12/6/06!!! I have found no reference to the 6.12 driver. Also, even this supposedly new driver (Printer Driver v3.0aAs) says iot if for Intel macs, and says nothing about Power PC Macs.
Relatedly, I am interested in exactly what you are experiencing with the 1800. In my case, the Power PC IMac prints are completely wrong re color. No relationship between the screen and the print. With the MacBook Pro, I am getting an error message that the "media is not loaded properly" even though the IMac is communicating fine with the printer and there is no error message.

Epson printers must be added in a non-intuitive way.
Open Printer Setup Utility. Click on the Add icon at the top. Click on "More Printers" at the bottom of the window that opens. Another window will open. Make sure that you click "Default Browser" chosen at the top left. Use the pop up menu to select EPSON FIREWIRE. Then highlight your printer in the list below. This will enable the "Page Setup:" menu which will give you the choices of formats you want to add. Select the format (or all) you want to add and click the "Add" button at the bottom.

  • Paper preferences with Epson R1800

I am trying to print on glossy paper with iPhoto 08. I cannot find that option. I can only find Matte or Fine Matte.
    Any suggestions.

Use Print Center Utility to delete the current driver. Check Epson's site for the latest driver for the 1800 printer. Download and install the driver. Then use Print Center Utility to make sure you've got it installed fully. There may be two drivers that PCU can install, one regular and one for borderless. It's that way for my Epson printer.
That might be what's needed to get those menu options back.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
