Epson R1800 driver

After installing Leopard the R1800 printer no longer worked. The only printer driver on the Epson website is for an Intel Mac, not a powerpc. A call to Epson verified there is no driver available for the powerpc. They claimed to be working on it and asked me to check back to their website periodically. As for now I have an expensive boat anchor.

Hi cg
What you're having is that the driver that appears by default is a Gutenprint, which is a generic driver, without all the options that you get with the Epson.
If you already installed the last Epson driver for 10.5.x, your next step is to open Print & Fax inside the System Preferences panel, select on the left side your R1800 (one click only) and below click on the "-" sign to remove the printer from the list.
After that, click on the "+" sign and add again the R1800.
On the bottom of the new window there's a button that says "Print Using", click on it and there should be 2 options of drivers for the R1800, one being the Epson and the other being the Gutenprint, select the Epson and everything should work fine again.
Good luck.

  • How to turn of color management in epson r1800 driver 6.12

I have an Epson R1800 with Epsons driver 6.12.
What I wonder is how I turn off the color management in the driver, as I do that (color management) in Adobe Photoshop CS3 (when I choose to print).
In the version 3 driver I was able to choose that in Epsons printer driver (in the dialog where I choose what paper, quality and so on I would like to use.
But in version 6.12 of the epson driver that options semms to be removed.
so could anyone please help me.
    /D

I found what the problem was.
I have my R1800 connected to my AirPort Extreme, and when using the driver 6.12 with AirPort Extreme (Bonjour) the printer settings is not the same (how weird isn't that???). But if I connect the R1800 to my MacBook Pros USB I get the option to turn off the color management.
Then I found this on Epons site:

  • Epson r1800 driver installation

I've installed the Epson r1800 drivers from the epson CD on my G5 iMac. When setting up the printer in print utility only "E" is shown with it's firewire connection. The more printers dropdown doesn't list the 1800 drivers. I'm unable to locate the drivers despite having installed them.
    Any help? Thanks.
G5 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   firewire printer connection, direct to computer-no hub,

Epson printers must be added in a non-intuitive way.
Open Printer Setup Utility. Click on the Add icon at the top. Click on "More Printers" at the bottom of the window that opens. Another window will open. Make sure that you click "Default Browser" chosen at the top left. Use the pop up menu to select EPSON FIREWIRE. Then highlight your printer in the list below. This will enable the "Page Setup:" menu which will give you the choices of formats you want to add. Select the format (or all) you want to add and click the "Add" button at the bottom.

  • CS3 Leopard Epson R1800 driver problems solved (hopefully)

Trying to put this post in searchable terms for others having the same problem finding the answer -- new to mac.
Everybody knows that you need to go to epson.com and download the new mac leopard drivers for most of the printers, including R1800. But the new driver won't install correctly unless you go into Library/Printers/ and move the entire "EPSON" folder into the trash can before double clicking the VISE install icon on the downloaded package. (Maybe there is another way to make it work, but mine wouldn't actually install and start working till I did this.)
If you have the right driver, you will see "EPSON SP R1800 (1)" as your driver in System Preferences/Print&Fax. Also, you will see "Print Settings", "Roll Paper Option", "Expansion" and "Extension Settings" as options in the pulldown menu in the epson print dialog through PS CS3 (after hitting print in the first print dialog box). There is also a "basic" and "Advanced" choice under Print Settings.
If you still have the wrong driver, you won't get any errors, but the new dialog box won't show up. The old driver that doesn't work shows up (I think I remember correctly) as EPSON SPR 1800 in your System Preferences window. No parenthetical. Also, if you have the old bad driver, in the epson print dialog box, you see a different set of options, and no 'basic' and 'advanced' choice under print settings.
I hope that helps some people. I was having a hard time knowing if I had the new driver actually working (even though I thought I installed it). Turns out I didn't! Thanks to random post by John McWilliams and Duane Ellison (who posted screenshot of new dialog in the LR forum), I figured out the thing with the Epson folder. Now let's just hope the prints look good!

    Hi Laura.
Isn't that the most frustrating thing in the world? Anyway, that isn't the right driver. That is the one that ships with Leopard (or something, I don't know - anyway, wrong one).
Try deleting the EPSON folder again, deleting your printer from system prefs/print fax, reinstalling the driver and re-finding your printer. Now that I think about it, I did that, and generally fiddled around in there a bit, before it worked.
I don't know how Macs associate printers with drivers (I'm a PC person and missing my PC!), but once the software in the dmg package was properly installed, the printer automatically picked up the EPSON SP R1800 (1) driver when I told it to go look for printers. I didn't have to choose it from the list of drivers.
    Hope that helps.

  • Epson r1800 driver installed on intel mac

OK, I spent hours figuring this out. If you have an epson and are on an intel mac here's how you get the new drivers to install.
Go to espon leopard support page.
    http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportLeopard.jsp
Download your driver. Read the enclosed document, it's still based on tiger but here's what you do. Open the system preferences panel. Open Print & Fax. Where your printers are listed on the LEFT hit the "minus" sign and uninstall the printer there. Then install the new epson driver you downloaded.
There it is in your printer panel, select the new driver as your default.
    IT WORKS!!!!

Ok, I called Epson and they had me do the minus thing, then restart and then try to add again. I had already installed the driver on their website like they said. I could not add the R320 again, and got error message 9672, which they said was an Apple error message and to call them. Naturally, the phone is not even working. EVERYONE must be having some issues with Leopard. . . any suggestions for this error? My printer sort of works still, but doesn't have the right page setup options, etc. it did before upgrading. . . . Hmmmm, sort of makes the term "upgrade" seem wrong, doesn't it????

  • HOW TO INSTALL OLDER DRIVE for EPSON r1800

    Hello
SInce I upgraded to Lion, my Pictures are no longer printing as WYSIWYG on my Epson R1800. It seems from forums, that the newer driver isn't working corectly. I was able to find the installation DMG of an older Driver - but it is not found by the R1800 under System Perferences. Can you tell me how to install an older Driver?

  • Epson R1800 - installing printer driver ??

I have a MacBook (10.4.7) connected to an Epson R1800 printer via USB. Prior to upgrading to 10.4.8, the printer worked fine. However, OSX 10.4.8 proved to be a catastrophe and I had to revert to 10.4.5 and then upgrade progressively to 10.4.7 (repairing privileges and rebooting at every step of the way).
I installed the new Intel version of the R1800 driver downloaded from Epson, but the driver does not appear on the MacBook, even after repairing privileges. I cannot see the driver in the printer setup utility.
I am having to create PDF versions of my work, transfer them to an ageing G4 (also under 10.4.7) in order to print - no problem with printer drivers on the G4.
My suspicion is that the delta 10.4.8 upgrade is at the origin of the problem. I had the dead, grey "kernel problem" screen like many many other people. I have never had an upgrade problem before. This upgrade was downloaded automatically via software upgrade with no warning that it could cause big, big problems...
Any help you can give would be very much appreciated.
    MacBookPro + G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Corporate communication/design
    MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I found the solution! When installing the Epson printer driver, there is a drop-down menu "install/uninstall". Select "uninstall" to remove all trace of any Epson R1800 printer-related files on the disk. Then reinstall the driver. After that, there is no problem selecting the printer.
Sounds obvious, but in the heat of the moment, the obvious is not always that clear!

  • Wireless print server that works with Macs and Epson R1800?

    Hi,
I'm looking to buy a wireless print server, which I could use as if the printer was connected directly to my Mac. So basically, it just needs to have printing over IP port (like port 9100 on HP JetDirect) and drivers for Mac OS X (or ideally, no special drivers needed at all). Devices that do sharing of the printer only over LPD (older Unix), SMB (Windows), IPP (Cups / newer Unix) or similar protocols is not what I'm looking for here.
The reason why LPD, SMB and IPP are not an option is that I'll need utilities such as Epson Printer Utility to work over the network too.
It looks like Linksys, Belkin and some other have products that allow access to the printer over port 9100 (standard HP JetDiret's port) as if the printer was connected directly to the computer. However, for the most part I was able to find only success stories for Windows users.
Windows has standard driver that allows connection to the printer to be easily switched from USB port to network port. Does OS X comes standard with that feature, or is the special driver needed?
Most importantly, has anybody had success with printing from Mac through wireless print server (any brand) to Epson R1800? Did the Epson Print Utility (checking the ink levels, checking and cleaning the head, etc) work? Any special drivers needed?
    Thanks

direwolf has hit the nail on the head - the Epson driver won't work for IP printing. The Epson driver is a Carbon driver, where they build the comm protocols into the driver instead of enabling use of the standard protocols on OS X (that are part of the CUPS system). You'll need a CUPS driver to use the standard network protocol(s). The printfab driver is a CUPS driver.
Exception - the Apple Extreme/Express/etc print servers have firmware that make them work like Macs - Mac-to-Mac sharing works with USB-only drivers! I hesitate to recommend the Extreme/Express, because Apple can't seem to get all the kinks out.

  • Epson r1800 - 'Media not loaded correctly'

    Hello All,
I'm having a lot of trouble with my Epson r1800 - I've searched around the internet a bit for solutions but so far haven't come up with anything. To start, I have updated the epson drivers and also tried Gutenprint drivers.
Basically, no matter what I try (including the standard nozzle checks etc...) I always get the message 'Media not loaded correctly'. Occasionally pages will feed through the printer, but they are blank and regardless I get the media not loaded correctly message. Does anybody have a workaround or solutions for this?
    Thanks!
    Gavin

Try using the following directions from a message from Epson. This corrected my problems with an Epson R1800 and Leopard.
Thank you for taking the time to contact Epson. It is my pleasure to
    respond to your inquiry.
If your output is faint or if the driver settings and/or features are
missing, your system may have automatically added the printer using the
Gutenprint driver. Many Epson drivers are provided with Leopard but the
driver for your printer needs to be downloaded from the Epson website.
Determine Which Driver is Currently Being Used
    1. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the Finder and open
    System Preferences.
    2. In the System Preferences window, click on Print & Fax.
    3. In the list of printers on the left side of the Print & Fax window,
click once on your Epson printer to select it.
    4. Check the name of the driver being used; it is displayed in the center
of the Print & Fax window next to “Kind”.
    5. If the driver name displayed next to “Kind” is Gutenprint, the incorrect
driver is being used. Follow the steps in the next section to select the
    correct driver.
    Selecting the Correct Driver
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Delete the print queue and remove the printer from Print & Fax by
clicking on the minus button under the list of printers. Click OK to
    confirm the removal.
    3. Go to the Epson support website (www.epson.com/support).
    4. Select your product model and download the driver for OS X 10.5 Leopard
    operating system.
    5. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions
    to install the printer driver.
    6. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the Finder and open
    System Preferences.

  • Help with Aperture 3 printing to Epson R1800 please

No I haven't got the wrong forum, I think I will get the best answer here. I am a fully paid up member of the Lightroom 2 club and like to use both as I am sure others here do.
I cannot get a good print from Aperture 3, there is always a slight magenta colour cast. Prints from Lightroom and CS4 are perfect! And yes all settings are correct, I am not a beginer at this. This is with custom Permajet paper profiles and with Colormunki profiles. And as I have said prints from Lightroom and CS4 using a digital dog test print are spot on.
I remember back in earlier versions of Lightroom printing to the R1800 was problematic and the only way to get round this was to go into the ColorSync Utility and and under Devices and then the default Epson Media type, change the Current Profile to the paper profile that you wished to use. It now seems that this is also the only solution for A3. Doing this will give me an identical print to LR and CS4.
Now was this a problem with Lightroom or the R1800 driver? I am using the latest driver V6.23.  Also I am using Aperture 3.0.2 and OSX 10.6.3.
I would be grateful for any help.

    Hi Ian,
I am glad to hear you're getting good prints from LR and CS4. I am not aware of any outstanding issues with print color management in Lightroom (the print path is pretty solid and conforms to the OS requirements, and will perform correctly as long as the driver also conforms to the OS requirements; many recent drivers do, some older ones do not).
FYI, I understand you feel that there are forum participants here who may be able to help answer your question with Aperture. Though that may indeed be the case, that does not make it an appropriate use of this forum. (As an analogy, many forum participants here are also well-qualified to answer Photoshop questions, but Photoshop questions should be directed to the Photoshop forum, instead of here.)

  • Leopard + Aperture 2 + Epson R1800 == very dark prints

    Hi,
Before I upgraded to Leopard, I was able to get very nice prints from Aperture on my Epson R1800 printer.
After I upgraded to Leopard, the prints end up very dark. A bit of additional info follows.
    My monitor is correctly calibrated.
I installed new drivers from Epson's website (v6.12), and I verified I'm using those, and not Apple's Gutenprint drivers.
In the print settings I turn color management off, and than select correct ICC profile in the Aperture that matches paper and quality settings. For example, for printing on Epson Premium Glossy paper with PhotoRPM settings, I select "SPR1800 PrmGlsy PhotoRPM.icc" profile. Hit print, and after a bit of time the print comes out of the printer very dark. This sounds like ICC profile got dropped someplace along the way (in Aperture? in driver?).
If I go the other route, and let driver/printer manage color by selecting either normal or vivid options in print settings, and than use "system managed" setting in Aperture, the prints come out bright (maybe even a bit too bright). However, in this case the colors are off. Very off. Skin tones are especially bad with strong yellowish cast (people on the prints look if they were seriously sick).
Has anybody managed to get usable prints from Aperture 2 + Leopard combo on Epson R1800? Or any other comparable Epson printer (R800, R2400, new R1900)?
Searching forums, I found a lot of articles discussing Leopard and Epson printers problems for Adobe products (CS2/CS3/LightRoom), but not much for Aperture 2.
Unrelated question... I attempted to ask this in Aperture forum, but there was no post link. Do I need something special to be able to ask questions there?

Well, believe it or not, with the help of Epson support on the phone, I've figured this out. First of all, there is definitely a problem with Aperture's color management. What used to work (setting a color profile in the Aperture print dialog, and selecting "no color management" in the printer dialog) definitely does not work at this point.
If you want color management, what you have to do is select "System Managed" in the Aperture print dialog, and select "Color Controls - Epson Standard" in the Epson dialog. What this does is select the standard Epson profile for the paper you have selected. For example, if you've chosen Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper, the printer driver will use the "SPR1800 Premium Glossy" profile (Epson's standard profile for that paper, assuming you've downloaded it). Of course, that gives you Epson's version of what you want to print. If you have created your own profiles, using a spectrophotometer for example, you need to get the printer driver to apply YOUR profile instead of Epson's.
Here's how to apply your profile: Open Colorsync (in the Utilities folder), and select "Printers" in the Devices menu. Under the printer model, Stylus Photo R1800, for my case, select the profile for the paper you're interested in, say "SPR1800 Premium Glossy", and look on the right side of the window at "Current Profile:". Click the down arrow, and select "Other". Navigate to the profile you've created, and click "Open". This will set the profile you've created as what the printer driver will use when it thinks it's applying the SPR1800 Premium Glossy profile. Set other paper profiles (e.g., "SPR1800 Enhanced Matte") to whatever profile you've created for those papers.
Now, when you select "System Managed" in the Aperture dialog, and "Color Controls - Epson Standard" in the Epson dialog, it will apply your own profile.
Hopefully, Apple will fix the problem with color management, and we'll be able to go back to color management as it was before. In the meantime, this is the only work-around I've found.

  • Print CD Epson R1800

Found a work around to CD print driver problem for R1800 in Leopard. (Epson site no help.)
    1. Open Print CD
    2. Command Print.
    3. Ignore Error Message "Epson printer driver dealing with CD printing is not installed."
    4. Select "Manual Print"
    5. In "Page Setup" window choose as paper size "A4(CD/DVD)"
    6. In "Print" window, select "Print Settings" then as "Media Type" choose "CD/DVD"
    7. Hit print.
Cumbersome, but works fine (for now).

This finally worked for me too (using a Stylus Photo 1400) with the addition of choosing Tray 2 before selecting Manual Print.

  • G5 with Epson R1800

    Hi,
I have 10.4 OS with a Epson R1800 connected via USB. However when I try to print from illustrator an error comes up with Media Out or not loaded correctly.
I also have a ibook connected via printer sharing and when I print the ibook using Illustrator it works ok.
    ANy ideas?

When you connect your Mac to another Mac that is sharing a printer (be it local or networked) you are connecting to the spool queue provided by the other Mac, or in other words 'the path to the shared network resource'. This is computer term - nothing to do with Windows...
If you see the options when you connect directly (I think it would be USB - never heard of a printer connecting via FireWire) then as you say the driver is correctly installed locally. If they fail to appear after connecting to the share via the Printer Browser/Default Browser window, then it will have something to do with your local setup.
Basically what you want to do is use your local driver to print via the shared connection. So you have to override the default setup. First of all you have to ensure your local install of the driver is called the same as the shared printer? This will have an impact if it isn't as your Mac doesn't think it has the correct driver installed. Also, if you added the shared printer before you installed the local driver, then OS X will have configured the driver and assume these 'defaults' when you try to create a new printer connection. So try deleting both the shared and local R1800 printer from the Printer List, restart your Mac, and then add the local printer first. Once this has been setup then try adding the shared printer. If this doesn't work, you would have to 'Reset the Printing System' and install the printer again. However note that this will delete all printers from the Mac so only do it as a last resort and if you are prepared to add all the printers again.
Also, do you have the Mac's communicating via TCP/IP or is only AppleTalk enabled? If it's the latter, then I have seen this impact the availability of the extra driver options.

  • Puzzling Epson R1800 4x6 Printing Problem

I have 3 computers: G5 Dual, Powerbook G4 and a MacBook Pro. I print regularly from the G5 to the Epson R1800 in all paper sizes with no problem. I was testing printing from my laptop today and discovered that I can't print 4x6 prints from either laptop. The Powerbook is running the same system software 10.4.5 and the same printer driver. The MacBook Pro running the Intel driver and has the exact same problem. When I try to print 4x6 paper I get an error message that the "media is not loaded correctly." Without changing anything, I can replug the printer into the G5 and it prints immediately without hesitation.
I can print 8.5x11 prints from the laptops, but not 4x6. Since everything is identical on the G5 and Powerbook I am especially dumbfounded. I've tried re-installing the drivers, restarting the computers and the printer all to no avail.
If anyone has any suggestions or possible solutions, I'd love to hear them!
    thanks,
    Doug

Mac Book Pro, G5 Dual, PBG4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi Tom -
It did work properly with Photoshop, but I'd rather not have to use Photoshop for all of my printing. As far as Lightroom goes, I was using the standard template - maximize size and specifying 4x6 paper. This worked on a mac air, same OSX, same version of LR5, same version of print driver. So, I created a user template on the air, exported it, imported it into my iMac. Still no good. The only workaround I have found is to use a maximize size template, specifiy letter size paper, then align the photo against the left and bottom edges. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Lightroom. This did not solve the problem, either.
Also, when I specifiy 4x6 paper, the rulers show the correct dimensions. Everything looks correct, but it seems unable to communicate to the printer that LR is using anything other than letter-size paper. It's getting very frustrating and wasteful of time, paper, and ink, as I sure you can guess.
Thanks again for your suggestions - I appreciate the feedback.

  • Trouble adding printers. (Epson R1800)

I had no trouble printing with my Epson R1800 until one day my printer just mysteriously disappeared. I don't remember exactly when that happened, maybe it was after one of those system update.
I tried Disk Unility and I also tried reinstalling the driver but I'm still having the same problem -- when I click on "Add" in Printer Setup Utility, nothing happens. There's no printer listed either.
Does anyone know what's wrong? Thanks

Yes it was the update, most likely. 10.4.7 made it (prinitng) wobbly then 10.4.8 finished the job (HP All In One printer dissappared on my network but not on the machine it's connected to. See this thread:
