Epson R220 & Leopard "Print CD Program"
I just installed Leopard my Mac Pro, But I am having problems printing directly on CD's with my EPSON R220 Printer. I am using Epson's "Print CD" and Roxio/Toast "Disc Cover RE" and everytime i go to print I get the following message:
"The EPSON print driver dealing with CD printing is not installed."
Does anyone have that problem? Am i out of luck until Epson resolved the problem with a new driver?

Epson 3800 Leopard printer driver settings
Hi,
I know that many people here have had success with the new v6.5 3800 printer driver available on Epson's UK web site. I too find that it's working well, however some of the setting aren't ovbious and I was hoping that someone could shed some light.
I'm not in front of my machine, so please excuse any minor inconsistancies.
1) From the "Colour" Pane, I can choose either ColorSync or Epson Color controls. I find it odd that "No colour management" isn't an option here. Furthermore, later in the evening these two options became greyed out, and I couldn't find any way to reactivate them. What's happening?
2) The "Print Settings" pane also has color controls. Here, we can choose between "No Colour Management" and a series of Epson picture styles such as Vivid photos or, very oddly, Adobe RGB. The choice of this setting has no effect on the "greyout-ness" of the ColorSync Options above.
My problem lies in understanding how these options are tied to each other. For example, I can choose "No colour Management" from the second pane but then choose "ColorSync" from the first. Which will take priority?
It's also not clear to me how you *would* let the printer manage the colours. The second pane doesn't have a simple "ColorSync" option, either you have no colour management or you have the Epson print styles, neither of which are what is required.
Choosing to let the printer manage the colours or not from the Lightroom print settings doesn't seem to make any difference either. I thought that this was now all tied together some how in the latest drivers.

I'm based in the UK and testing the new Epson driver for the R2400 and seeing exactly the same bugs, errors, feature (take your pick) as you are.
This testing is on a clean testbed partition containing OS 10.5.1, Lightroom 1.3 and Creative Suite 3 with latest updates installed for all applications. Printing from Photoshop C3 under 10.5.1 via the new driver appears to work, not tested other applications in suite yet.
This seems to point to a Lightroom bug but that's just my opinion.
Profiles I'm trying to use are custom made using the i1Match software v3.6.2 and worked fine in Tiger for all applications including Lightroom. This really is getting tiresome, why can't people simply work on improving what we have rather than trying to redesigning software that we have come to trust and rely to earn our living. Yes there are alternatives but I've just settled into our new workflow, of which Lightroom plays a major part.
Hope someone can shed light on these issues and possibly supply us with an idea of a fix. I was wondering if Jeff Schewe or Ian Lyons have tried any of these combinations and have any information on the situation. Guys???
Here's hoping for an early Christmas pressie!

Epson R220 DVD tray error - any ideas?
I have a Epson R220 for printing DVD labels, using the Epson Print CD software.
It worked for a while, but now the tray keeps ejecting with a message "CD/DVD tray not aligned". I'm careful to place the tray under the rollers, and align the marks.
The manual says clean the rollers by feeding sheets of paper....didn't help.
Any suggestions?Maybe that's the same thing that your process accomplishes.
Sounds like a feeder issue on the printer and nothing to do with cleaning the print heads themselves (which the folded paper would help address in most cases).
Regardless ... Glad it's working ok for you now. -
Reviews/opinions between Epson R220 and HP DVD Writer dvd740e
I've seen good reviews here for the Epson R220 for printing labels onto DVDs. I just stumbled upon the HP DVD Writer dvd740e with Lightscribe laser etched technology for $129.00. Anyone have any experience/opinions? Thanks.
My Epson R220 worked for a year. Now the printer won't accept the DVD tray. The print head moves over, makes one pass and the tray ejects.
Epson says "buy a new tray" but with S+H $16....I think I'll buy a new printer.
The book says feed sheets to clean the rollers, but no luck. Any ideas? -
Unable to share Epson R220 printer
Recently installed Epson R220 printer on OSX Panther. After installation discovered it would not install on my G3 with OS9. Additional research uncovered information that it may be possible to network G5 with G3 via Ethernet and thereby print from G3 to R220 installed on G5. I have followed G5 instructions in "Help" (disable printer share in OSX, opening OS9 Classic and enable printer share, etc.). "Chooser" still does not show R220 in Classic and therefore believe it is not be being "seen" by G3. Hope you have enough information. Look forward to your reply
G5x2 Mac OS X (10.3.9) G3 OS 9.2 ethernet connectionRegular (ie, simple) printer sharing doesn't work from OS X to OS 9 because they use different protocols.
If you have the same driver installed on both the G3 and G5 (Classic), you can share from OS X Classic to the G3 by installing and turning on the USB Printer Sharing Control panel (can be downloaded from Apple).
Connecting direct by ethernet requires setup, too. In Network Prefs (OS X) and TCP/IP Control panel (OS 9), set configure manually and enter these local IP addresses: 192.168.3.3 and 192.168.3.4. I don't know if appletalk is required for this protocol, but turn it on on both computers.
Another possibility is to use the Apple Desktop Printer Utility on the G3 to set up a desktop LPD printer. For that you need to share the printer in OS X Sharing Prefs, and write down/remember the OS X print queue name, found in printer Setup by clicking on show Info. Use "Apple Color LaserWriter" (any model) as the PPD/model in the OS 9/G3 setup. This means you will send postscript from the G3 to the G5's Epson print queue. The G5 will prepare the output (called RIPping) and send it to the printer.
Hope this helps. -
Using Photoshop CS6 and after printing approx. 10 cards on an Epson R3000 printer the program gives me a dialog box saying "There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents." Even after closing and reopening the program, the print command is greyed out so I cannot select any printer. This also happens with a Brother laser printer. Both printers will produce a test page out side of the Adobe product. Help!
I cannot get any help either. I get the message "There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents." I have reinstalled all drivers, powered off/on all printers (2 of them - a Brother HL - 4040cn and an Epson Stylus Pro 7890 - which all worked fine until this morning). There appears to be no path to a solution. I have read all the forums and tried about 20 different suggestions all to no avail. Reboots, changing cables, reinstalling printers and drivers and Photoshop CS6 - ALL TO NO AVAIL. On a macbook pro retina with 10.10.3. This issue is out there and some get solutions - but not all - that's my crowd...the not all crowd. I have yet to be able to print from CS6 any more. This is a show stopper and my patience is wearing thin. And I'm tired of stupid questions like "is your printer powered on?" give me a break. This appears to be an adobe photoshop cs6 problem - as I can print from every other application. Anyone have any ideas? Adobe should have something?... Adobe system info below:

Epson Print CD Program for Mac
I have an imac and Epson Stylus Photo R200 printer that allows me to print onto DVDs using the "Epson Print CD" program that came with the printer. However when I print onto the cd it's to the right by an inch.
I attempted to change the position in the "File-Fine tune print position" but this did not work.
I don't know what to do at this point. I misplaced the CD I got the program from so that's not an option. Can someone help me?Hi Hayden, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Tough to know from here, but I'd print out one page at the settings it has now, the use a Ruler to see far for off it is.
Here I printed out a page...
It was using this Printer's built in margins as you can see, but measuring a full size page would show that you need to move it a certain amount... -
Alignment problems printing direct to DVD with Epson R220
I know this question isn't specifically related to iDVD but I wondered if someone could help please?
I recently bought an Epson R220 printer to print direct to DVDs created with iDVD as I know labels stuck onto DVDs are best avoided.
However, using both the bundled Epson Print CD software and 'disclabel', I find the print is about 1cm off centre. I'm really surprised by this, as I thought these machines would just work out of the box - detecting through the software where the centre of the DVD is? I've tried everything to remedy this (including the position adjustment within Print CD which allows up to 5mm fine-tuning). The problem is I need more than fine tuning - the print is way off!
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has an R200 or R220 and might have had a similar problem as I've spoken to Windows users with the same printer, who report no such hassle.
Many thanks,
Ant
G5 2GHz dual, PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.7)Thanks Hardy - really appreciate the links to the Epson site. I've tried using the manual settings as you suggest, and I've certainly witnessed a vast improvement. Basically, it seems that if I alter the position adjustment slightly and then opt for a manual print, the disc is centred no problem. It isn't quite up to the edge of the disc - there's about a 2mm gap, using one of the templates from the Print CD app. Have you noticed this also - or does the image print right up tight against the edge of the disc?
If I go back and opt to just 'Print' from the first menu that appears after selecting File>Print, (i.e. not using Manual to print) the image is consistently about 15mm off centre - I've tried this on a dozen tests. However, using 'Manual Print' this isn't the case. I wonder if there is a glitch here in the latest edition of EPSON Print CD (V1.4), in that you seem unable to specify 'Page Set Up'?
I've also gone back to the excellent disclabel application. Here I find that if I change the 90% default under page set up, to 100%, the disc is also aligned correctly.
Thanks very much Hardy for taking the time to work through this one with me - much appreciated.

Printing in iPhoto 08 with Epson R220
I'm a recent Mac convert and am trying to print using my reliable Epson R 220 printer. The colors aren't accurate and I realize I'm missing some colors in the cartridge. On my former PC I could check the printer utility and run a test to find out which colors are low in the cartridge. I can't seem to get this needed information from my Mac printer utility.Any suggestions would be appreciated.
If you installed the software that came with your printer, check in your Applications folder for the Epson Printer Utility. It gives you the Option to Check the Printer Ink Levels, align the printheads etc. If you don't have the software you can downloaded from the Epson website, the Driver & Support section.

I recently bought an Epson Artisan 837 printer. I installed the driver and now Photoshop from CS3 will not open. It closes every time it gets to the point where it is loading the Twain portion. Does anyone know how to fix this so my printer and Photoshop will work together? Thanks for any help I can get!
You're welcome.
But, no, don't look to Epson for fixes to their driver in newer versions, and Adobe has deprecated the TWAIN plug-in. Hoping for a solution there is futile. That has not happened and it's never going to happen. The consensus is that it's pretty foolish to tie up Photoshop to scan. Honestly.
Any improvement in the behavior of newer versions of the Epson drivers in that regard would be pure coincidence.
You need to understand that you never, ever scan "within" Photoshop, as Photoshop has no scanning capabilities whatsoever. When you use the Import > Twain plug-in all you are doing is blocking Photoshop while you call up the stand-alone Epson scanning software. If you think about it, its most inefficient.
VueScan has a pretty powerful scanning plug-in that can be called from the Impost menu—if you insist. VueScan is not free, but it's a pretty good value, IMO.
As for the Epson CD printing software, I have no clue. Sorry. -
Epson R220 "CD/DVD guide open"
I'm trying to print onto a CD with an Epson R220... After the first lot of problems I had with the Print CD program (Which doesn't work), I have found a template for Photoshop, in which I can add graphics etc to and supposedly print to a CD.
I select "Type" as CD/DVD in the print settings menu, yet when it goes to print it says "CD/DVD guide open"... Which is fairly obvious, as it's what I'm trying to print onto.
I've had a browse on several other forums, and the only thing they can suggest is that I select the 'manual feed' option... Unfortunately, this seems to be a Windows only option.
Anyone any ideas?thanks,
I worked great. I realized the problem I had: even though you choose the direct to CD/DVD print -> unfortunately when printing the driver is not smart enough to choose the CD as a format so you have to go to "print setting" each time and choose "CD" instead of plain paper. Then it works great.
btw: if you have/get Toast then Discuss comes with it. With Toast 8 you get "Disc Cover" which is even better. -
Automatic Form Feed - Epson LQ - 2180 printer to R12 in Solaris Environment
Hi
We are adding a new Epson dot matrix [ Impact] Printer to our system. [Epson LQ - 2180]
Server OS: Sun OS sun4v sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise-T5120
R12 Version: 12.1.3
This is a network printer. This has been added to the printer server via root. We have configured the Printer in the Front end also via Install -=-> Printer in System Administrator REsponsibility.
Our goal is to print three programs serially one after the other at a time. The paper input feed is continuous sheet.
When we print from normal windows applications like notepad and MS-word, the page feed / form feed automatically gets set after each request. So that each request gets started in a New page. But this is not the case when we try to do the same from EBS.
Is there any special setting / value that we need to set in the Printer Drivers like Arguments, Initialization and reset.
We referred the printer manual but could not find any specific command or value to be set for Solaris.
Your help is very much appreciated.

Leopard printing problems on several printers (Am I the only one?)
Since installing Leopard shortly after it was released, I've had flakiness with printing:
- With Tiger, when I printed, I could open the printer's window, and see the print job queued. The job would finish, disappear from the window, and everything would be fine.
- When the job was printing, the printer icon would appear in the Dock. When the job was done, the icon would disappear from the Dock. Simple.
With Leopard, printing has worked, but I have never seen a print job appear in a PrinterProxy window. I print, the printer outputs the job, and PrinterProxy is always blank. The printer icon appears in the Dock, and stays there forever. I found that I could ctrl-click on the icon and select the Auto Quit option (Hooray!), but that only worked for a while. Then the icons started staying in the Dock again. When I click on the Dock, there is no more Auto Quit option... just the "Application Not Responding" message. I have to force quit Printer Proxy after every time I print.
What's stranger is how long it takes for the PrinterProxy app to start up. The icon in the Dock bounces for well over a minute. Sometimes, the job finishes printing before the app is launched. If I switch between apps using Cmd-Tab, I can select the PrinterProxy app, but it never actually displays; instead, I just revert to the current window.
This is true for every printer I use, and as a traveling consultant, I use several. It is true whether I am printing via Airport, or over a direct Internet or USB connection.
The printers that are permanently in my Printer List are:
Canon i9100
Brother MFC-8840
Epson Stylus Photo 220
HP LaserJet 1320N
HP LaserJet 8800
HP LaserJet 6570
HP Color LaserJet 5550
Adobe PDF 8.0
All of these have the same problems. What's worse is, when I have a printing problem, there is no way to diagnose it, since the print jobs never show up in the PrinterProxy.
I have reset my printing system many times. I have deleted and re-added my printers many times. I have downloaded drivers from the manufacturer's sites, and reinstalled Leopard's default drivers. Nothing makes a difference. Strangely, after updating to 10.5.2, the Auto Quit problem went away for awhile, then returned spontaneously.
At the thread below, I show some of my system and crash logs from a prior discussion. Someone was helping me with the problem, but after asking me to post my logs, he seems to have dropped off the thread.
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7013209#7013209
I can't believe this problem is endemic to Leopard. I know many people who seem to use Leopard without any problems at all. (They even print once in a while!) And yet, as a fairly advanced user, I can't believe I'm the only one having this problem! My system is pretty plain vanilla, with no weird mods, hacks or apps. Pretty much just straightforward creative and productivity apps. I use it daily for business, so I try to keep all wacky stuff off of it.
There must be a solution, short of doing a clean install. Can anyone help? Are there PrinterProxy-related files I can delete when I reset the Printer System that might help resolve this? Prefs?
Thanks,
DavidI'm having exactly the same problem with a Lexmark C760.
When I inspect the Activity Monitor while opening the Printer Icon from the Dock (or press the Button "Open Print Queue" in the "Print & Fax" System Preferences), I can see the Printer Icon as "Printer Proxy (Not Responding)" marked in red in the processes list. The Dock icon bounces for quite a while, and after about 2 minutes, a Printer List actually appears under the PrinterProxy application and the process in Activity Monitor changes its name to "(null)" and its color to black.
Though there is no entry in the PrinterProxy list when I print something from another application while keeping the window open, I can select "Supply Levels" and the correct information appears, so it seems to be functional.
It also seems that there are several copies of the drivers remaining, as the application in the Dock is named "Lexmark C760 (4)", probably from my attempts to remove and reinstall the driver. Is there some interference with old installations of the drivers that still lurk somewhere, hidden in the depth of the many libraries? How can I get rid of the previously installed drivers for good? -
Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 does not recognize Epson Artisan 837 printer
Just purchased Epson Artisan 837 printer. Had been printing out of Photoshop Elements 10 (on Windows 7) fine at first, after printing 5 photos the next time I tried to print I received message "No compatible WIA devices detected....
What could be my issue?
My husband uninstalled and performed a clean install on the printer, it worked as above and now I'm in the same situation again. Thanks Garry.....
I found out something interesting. Apparently when Adobe changed from using
Twain to WIA the program (which began with ver. 10; I've used Adobe for
awhile and have had previous versions) the ability to scan via adobe with
some printers has diminished.
I now have yet another step to do to scan...
Scan with printer software, save to hard drive, then open Adobe and work
with the scanned file and save to appropriate file on hard drive.
I had an HP e-printer (all-in-one) prior to this Epson Artisan and it was
having difficulties also and I never figured out why, that's why we bought
the Epson.
Which is OK, because the I didn't like the HP all that much anyway.
Thanks for taking the time to contact me about this...I've not used forums
much.
Appreciate the help,
Lesleigh
