Epson R2400 Advanced B/W printing

Hi
I am trying to print Advanced B/W to an Epson R2400 in Aperture ...
Normally when printing colour you set the print driver to Color Management Off and select an appropriate Colorsync ICC profile in the Aperture print dialog. All this is fine.
When printing Advanced B/W you need to have no color profile active and let the driver do the color management. For example, in Photoshop you select "Let Printer Determine Colors".
In Aperture you can choose "System Managed" or a Colorsync Profile. There is no option for switching off color management.
"System Managed" seems to mean to use the default Colorsync profile for the device, which would be an Epson ICC profile. Is this correct ?
Or is the Mac smart enough to work out that the driver wants to take control when I select System Managed ?
Anybody know ?
Thanks

Guy,
This is why it would be nice to know the definative
answer for an Apple engineer.
Those are hard to come by. If you do get ahold of an Apple Engineer tie him up until I can ask a few questions too. I suspect that the answer that Kendall gave above is correct though I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
I wonder if there is some experiment that could be done to check for certain? How about using the save as PDF button to intercept the image after it leaves Aperture and before the Epson driver gets its hands on it to see what color space it is in? I'll fiddle with that later too.
If what you are working on is a digital camera RAW file that you wish to print in Advanced B&W mode then there has to be some sort of conversion to a profile done before it goes to the printer driver. RAW files live in Aperture's internal color space and that's not something the Epson driver will understand.
Your OP says that a profile conversion messes up the Epson driver's Advanced B&W mode. I haven't heard this--what's your source for that information? Is it really true that the driver could handle a file in Adobe RGB but not one converted to "SRP 2400 Default" profile? That seems unlikely but it's a strange universe......

  • Photoshop CC will not print to my Epson r2400

When I try to print from PS, I get the error window "There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents".
I am using a Mac OS X 10.10.2 and my Photoshop CC 2014 will not print to the Epson r2400.
I can print with Illustrator CC and all other software programs on my Mac.
I've uninstalled my Epson r2400 Drivers, uninstalled everything associated with the printer drivers and reinstalled the new drivers after emptying the trash and restarting the Mac. My problem still persists. It seems to me it is a Photoshop Software problem!

Try opening "print" while holding the spacebar; this discards any saved values. Also, make sure the correct printer it set as default. If these fail, try resetting print: Open print and hold Option. The cancel button will become a reset - click the reset button.

  • Printing to Epson R2400 - Lightroom 1.3 vs Photoshop CS2

I'm printing a fair amount of B&W images in Lightroom using Velvet Fine Art paper and Advanced B&W Management in the Epson printer driver. As instructed by Epson, the printer setting in Lightroom is "Managed by Printer", which should be correct, right, except that my printed images are coming out a little darker than my calibrated monitor suggests they should be.
Epson technical support said that some users are having difficulty printing from Lightroom to the R2400, and suggested that I try printing from Photoshop instead. So, using the same settings in Photoshop, and reprinting the image, I did notice a difference.
I'm wondering, are there any printing issues between Lightroom 1.3 and the Epson R2400 at this point in time. If not, why would the same image come out differently in Photoshop if the same printer settings are being used?

  • Problem with Color Print in Illustrator. Photoshop fine. Epson R2400

OK.. I’ve spent all morning trying to troubleshoot bad color on Illustrator CS4 to Epson R2400 and can’t find a solution. Mac  10.5.8
I’m getting off color (but a neutral grayscale) when printing to from AI 14.0 to Epson Stylus Photo R2400. This just started today.  The graphic prints fine in Photoshop.
The main color in logo is R-125, G-69, B-73 in sRGB editing space.  It prints very magenta from AI to Epson 2400. Prints fine to my HP laser and fine to PDF.
I’m not new to Color Management and I’ve double-checked all the usual suspects.
    Recalibrated Monitor
    Re-installed Epson print driver (v6.57)
    checked ink nozzles
Checked color settings (synched in Bridge to NA Gen Purpose 2)
checked proper document and printer/paper profile are selected (sRGB to Matte HW)
    checked Relative Colorimetric
in Printer dialog checked proper Media Type selected (Epson Matte HW)
and that Color Settings were set to No Color Management.
    trashed AI Preferences.
I’m using Epson Inks and Papers.
Same image prints fine from Photoshop using same color settings.
    any other ideas?
    Thanks much.
    Charles

Yea! Working today. One of these things did it, I think. (unfortunately, I did not test after each one)
    Recalibrated monitor, again
Trashed Epson Printer Utility from its Utilities folder
    Reinstalled Epson driver, again
Deleted all my Presets in the OS Print Set Up dialog box.
So, one of those things helped, or benevolent weekend gremlins.

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes when I try to print from Epson R2400

    Hi,
For no reason that I can see, when I try to print from my Epson R2400, Photoshop CS3 crashes.
It was working fine up to yesterday with no issues.
I have re installed the drivers etc but no use.
I also cannot choose Printer Manages Colors, as it is now greyed out.
When the the Printer dialogue opens and I click on the Page Set up I get the Error that "Photoshop CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to close"
    Any ideas please?

    Thanks for the replies.
I understand now that the procedure is probably the reason.
I was just experimenting as LAB colours are colours we see through our eyes, while RGB, CMYK etc are "computer" colours and so I use LAB colours a lot, before switching back to RGB.
I normally switch to LAB mode and click on the Lightness channel, then play with adjustments of that channel. This time I decided to mess around and see what would happen if I removed all channels except the Lightness one....
Converting to greyscale for me is not enough unfortunately and LAB B+W provides much better contrast and tone than hitting CTRL+Shift+U to greyscale.
Again, I understand what you say, my point being though that Photoshop should not crash because I incorrectly remove the channels, perhaps a warning to tell me I can't do it would be better.
I'll pass this onto Adobe anyway.
    cheers

  • Indesign CS3 & Epson r2400 not printing tabloid paper

Indesign CS3 & Epson r2400 not printing tabloid paper. MAC OS 10.5.6. Have tried all configurations of page set up 11 x17 and 8.5 x 11 spreads, custom page sizes and default paper set up. The print comes out cut off. Epson says it's an Indd problem. Very inconvenient. Got any ideas?

I'm having the same problem with IDCS3 5.0.4 and an Epson Stylus PRO 3800 on Mac OS X 10.5.6 with version 6.11 of the Epson driver. I have a 17x17 document in InDesign that I am trying to print on 17x22 paper. The paper spools a little less than half-way down and the print begins, but it prints about 1/4 of the image--it is as if it cropped at 8.5x11 at the top right corner of the image.
I have had to resort to saving the file as a high-res jpeg and printing from Preview as a workaround. Unreal.

  • Accurate color print workflow IDCS6 to Epson R2400 w/X-Rite Custom Profiles - Mac OS X 10.8.1?

    Hello Folks,
I am trying to get accurate color out of InDesign CS6 on an Epson R2400 using custom created profiles with X-Rite i1 Profiler in Mac OS X 10.8.1. on Epson Papers. Has anyone had luck with this workflow? I am also looking for the same with the Epson R3000.
I have been scouring the web for more than a week for updated info and some insight but have been having a hard time finding solid step by step settings I can follow and get accurate output. I end up with either too light/washed out prints or too dark and saturated prints. I've already blown a complete set of inks and tons of paper and time toiling with this one.
I'm looking first for how to verify that Colorsync settings are accurate for my needs, updated color settings in InDesign CS 6 and Epson printer driver settings with Epson inks, Epson papers and their downloadable profiles at least. If I can get that to be semi close I can then attempt to use recently created custom profiles for individual papers to really nail my output.
I have used the most recent X-Rite i1 Profiler (1.3.1)/Gretag MacBeth i1 Proof UV-Cut spectrophotometer with new and older iMacs, Mac Pros with Cinema displays, the new Retina Macbook Pro's and CS6, 10.8.1, Xerox 7760 and Xerox 8570 and have accurate color. I have calibrated the monitors/screens, the Xerox printers with different papers and no problems with output.
For some reason the Epson workflow is being a complete tool. I have completely removed the Epson printer folder etc. as per Epson's uninstall information and downloaded and reinstalled to to present. Any help would be extremely appreciated. My wallet and sanity thank you!

  • Epson R2400 prints from Apterture and CS2 are VERY close.

Using the same NEF file that Frank donated, I printed an untouched(cropping only) print from Aperture to my Epson R2400 on premium lustre paper.
I took the white balance temp(4906 K) and tint(-14) from the HUD and applied these into Bridge(temp/tint for the same NEF), with default values for everything else default(exposure:0, shadows:5, brightness:40, contrast:+25, saturation:0, sharpening:25), and color space sRGBIEC61955-1, then opened it in CS2 and printed it.
NOTE: I am using PowerRIP-X V7.2 from iProof Systems for my print driver, it is installed like a printer and shows up as a printer on the selection list. IMHO, the $200 I spent on the R2400 RIP was money well spent. Between the RIP and the calibrated monitor, my color matching from screen to print is dead on, regardless of the paper type.. no more wasted prints and frustration. They also sell a RIP for the Epson 4800.
The prints from both are very, very, close. I have been shooting digital since 1997 and therefore do not own a scanner, so this is my visual review. Although I might shoot em tomorrow with my D2X on a tripod while lighting with a 47" Octabox... we'll see.
The CS2 print has a very slight bit more saturation of the skin tones(reddish) than Aperture. The shirt in the Aperture print is a very slight bit darker than the CS2 print.
If you look very closely and angle the light just right you can see a slight bit of the earlier mentioned blocking in the shadow on the subjects left shoulder.
I suspect the slight darkening of the shirt color may be due to the same reason for the aforementioned blocking in the shadow areas.
There is no appreciable difference in print quality.
I calibrate my 20" Cinema Display with a Spyder2PRO device and these slight differences are seen on screen as well, therefore on hardware calibrated displays the following screen capture should represent the differences..(I have no idea what this will look like on a windoze monitor!)
To see this full res in Safari, right click and select 'Open Image in New Window'

There seems to be two issues here. For output, using
the same output profile, Aperture and Photoshop
should be pretty close however, keep in mind that
unless you set Photoshop to use the Apple CMM (not
ACE) there could be a tiny bit of difference.
    Hmmm.
I'm trying to remember what Bruce Fraser said about CMM choice the last time I attended on of his lectures. If I have it correctly he had reservations about all of them but the Adobe CMM was the best of the lot.
This was over a year ago so conditions may have changed and my memory may be faulty....
But I imagine that their might be negative consequences to using two different CMMs to process your data. Photoshop allows you a choice of CMM's, which is consistent with an application "designed from the ground up for professional photographers."
Aperture limits many choices, both basic and esoteric.

  • Can't add Epson R2400 printer

    I'm running Mac OS X 10.8.1 on a 24-inch, Early 2009 iMac.
I have a USB-connected Epson R2400 printer.  I was having trouble in Photoshop where I couldn't get the printer settings dialog to appear.  I figured maybe the drivers needed to be re-installed after upgrading to Mountain Lion, so I deleted the printer in the System Preferences.
Then I went to Epson's website to download the driver package and found that they no longer had it for Mountain Lion -- it says only available from Apple from inside OS X.
Then I went to the System Preferences Print & Scan applet and tried to add the printer.  I select the R2400 from the list and it helpfully says "The selected printer software is available from Apple.  Click Add to download it and add this printer."
When I do so, after a few minutes of it saying "Setting up 'EPSON Stylus Photo R2400...'" and "Finding software..." I get this error:
"Can't install the software for the EPSON Stylus Photo R2400 because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."
When I look at what processes are running during the "Finding software..." phase I see PrintUITool running and it seems to fork getPPDVersion several times. After about the third time getPPDVersion runs I get the 'not currently available' error.
In an attempt to manually force the install, I deleted the /Library/Printers/EPSON directory and manually downloaded the Epson Printer Drivers v2.11 dmg from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398 and re-ran that installer.  The end result was the EPSON directory reappeared and yet, when I try to then add the printer again, I get exactly the same error as before.
Any suggestions on how I can add my printer?
    Thank you,
    --Jim Dempsey--

OK, I hadn't tried rebooting after re-installing the Epson Printer Driver package.  I rebooted and then I was able to add the printer.
I don't like rebooting because I typically have dozens of active windows open and many network resources mounted and since the installer didn't tell me that I had to reboot, I didn't.
Still, it seems like that did the trick.

  • Can't Print since 10.4.8, Epson R2400

My Epson R2400 was working fine with my 24" imac, until 10.4.8 update.
Since then, I have been unable to get the printer to work-- jobs stop immediately after being started. Reinstallation has not helped. anyone else have this problem, or have any suggestions?

  • CS 3 Epson R2400 printing problem

After recently migrating from Tiger to Leopard I reinstalled the driver software for my Epson R2400, and have been having CS3 printing problems ever since.
The project I'm doing print work from involves CMYK versions of greyscale photos and a spot color (Pantone 200PC, also tried Trumatch 5-a2).
If I try to print from InDesign, or from Acrobat using an InDesign "press quality" pdf, everything's 'thin'. The greyscale photos are a bit washed out, and the spot color is pink rather than rich red.
If I export a jpg from InDesign and print from Photoshop the quality is acceptable
If I export a jpg from InDesign and print from Lightroom the quality is acceptable
    InDesign's color settings are-
    RGB: sRGB
    CMYK: Sheetfed Coated V2
    Can anyone help? Many thanks.

If you have a computer that runs Tiger you should stick with Tiger. CS3 was written under Tiger and seems to work best in Tiger. Use the backup of your system drive you made before upgraded to leopard as you can't go back with an Archive and install. The bells and whistles in Leopard are not worth the stability Tiger offers.

  • Epson r2400 printing margins

I am trying to print cards on Strathmore paper with an Epson r2400. The size is 6 7/8" x 10". I keep getting a big left and top margin.
BTW: Aperture insists in cropping that the geometry is 6.9 x 10, and insists in the print dialog that it is 7x10 ".
I have tried printing the calibration page, but it prints with a 1/8" margin on the left and top, making the numbers useless. I have tried to guess at what the calibration (using 40 for right and 24 for bottom) but nothing seems to work.
Can anyone explain to me what calibration is supposed to do, since it doesn't seem to have any effect. And just what do those calibration numbers mean, anyway?
Until I figure it out, it's back to Photoshop for printing....
    mahalo,
    paul

    Paul,
Did you actually get the Epson r2400 to print on 7x10 stock? I have scored 7x10 stock, for folded 5x7 cards (Moab Entrada; really nice paper!). I had no problem working with this paper & printer combination (actually, my printer is the Epson R1800) in PC land, but when I define a 7x10 custom paper size on my new Mac, it doesn't seem to stick. Mac lets me define it, but when I send the print job to the printer, it bombs and I get a message that media is loaded incorrectly. This has happened from Aperture, and from Print Explosion.
    Any clues?

  • Epson R2400: Printing Issue: Dark printing after 10.7?

This question goes out to all of the Epson R2400 printer owners whom, if you're like me and have had one for a while, seem to have printing issues after every little change in the OS:
In Brief: Printing to the Epson R2400 via USB direct from iMac was printing well; outputing from InDesign, PhotoShop, and Acrobat Pro (all are CS5). I am not 100% sure because this is not a printer that I use daily, but I believe that I am having these printing issues after upgrading to 10.7.2 from 10.7.1.
The issue is that an output is very dark overall, or (after tweaking settings) will have a dramatic color shift to heavy magenta/black. In general, my traditional printer settings no longer produce correct outputs.
Anyone that has any suggestions or similar issues, I would like to hear about it.
    Notes:
    1. Yes, I completed all of the tradional voodoo magic: I cleared the printer caches, removed the printer, setup a new printer, updated the drivers via Apple software update, then once that didn't work, updated the drivers from Epson - even reverting to the older v6.5 drivers. I'm now back to the v8 drivers from the Apple software update.
    2. My printing tests are being conducted using a standard color test file that I've used to calibrate color on this Epson R2400 for years. I generally know that when this file doesn't print correctly something is afoot.
    3. My first attempt at correction was simply checking head alignment and completing a general cleaning of the heads. Didn't help.
    4. General question: Does anyone know of a compatible printer manufacturer of similar quality of output that actually cares about Mac users? Epson just never seems to really care about keeping their Apple drivers up to date or making sure that they work properly. Humble opinion.

Ok. I believe that it all comes down to the use of a third-party ink.
I didn't realize that there was a switch to a "refill" ink (to save money it appears) on the light-light-black and magenta. Switching back to Epson ink cleared the matter up.
I guess sometimes it's the simple things that elude us...

  • Iphoto will not print to Epson r2400

After downloading the most recent updates from Apple, I can no longer print from iphoto on my epson r2400 photo printer. I am running the latest drivers from the epson website but to no avail. I have even redownloaded the drivers and reinstalled them.
Whenever I try to print a picture the only things that happen is the printer begins to make noise like it is going to print and then I get a red exclamation point on the printer icon in the dock and a message saying "jobs stopped." Prior to this download everything worked fine in both iphoto and photoshop elements.
I also have an hp printer hooked up that I only use to print documents and it works fine. Any help someone could give me would be greatly appreciated.

    sunseekr5:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions (and go Tigers!). Try removing the printer drivers with Printer Setup Utility and then reinstall them. If that doesn't help you can run Printer Setup Repair (available at VersionTracker.com) and see if that won't help.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Printing Color Problems mac pro to epson r2400

I have a Mac Pro upgraded from a G5 and I am having difficulty printing the colors properly to my Epson r2400. I downloaded the newest driver from epson 6.57 but it is no different and still have colors printing wrong. Looks good onscreen but nothing now prints proper colors. I tried to save the illustrator file from CS5 to CS4 and print from G5 but now the file and colors won't even print from the older computer which used to be spot on colors (after I had to call to have this problem fixed.) Any suggestions? Does Mac Pro have a new driver to fix? Epson seems to not respond.

Longshot because my issue is with a PC and an epson printer. But I recently needed to uninstall and reinstall the epson software. You might try doing that.
I was having issues printing wirelessly, both from my laptop and my ipad/ipod. It started working after I uninstalled/reinstalled the software. I also didn't install the e-print and webprint. Don't know if that's a factor or not, but if you choose to reinstall you may want to do it in stages.
