Epson RX500 Dark Prints - how to fix?

I have a Epson RX500. When ever I set the Print Quality to anything better than Standard, the resulting prints are very very dark. I'm using Kodack picture paper. Have had this problem from the first day I got the printer and with various photo papers. Any suggestions?
iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Nowadays with all the chips/circuitry so embedded into single chip sets and boards a problem in one area will effect the unit as a whole and is unfixable other than to replace the whole board unfortunately but welcome to the disposable generation is one of the downsides of downsizing (pun intended) electrical equipment. you could try to find a repair centre to look at it but it sounds like you have multiple failures over multiple portions of the elec board and i would say by the time you had replaced all the damaged components the total cost with labour and all would be far and above the cost of a new phone sorry but i reckon unless you can live with the issues (which will probably get worse over time as more components are affected) i would suggest looking at buying a new one

  • CS4 and Epson 11880 dark prints

I read about some issues with dark prints and CS4. I am able to print correctly to an Epson 9800 and 3800 but the 11880 prints dark when using CS4 (color or b&w). I use OS X 10.5.5 and have the latest drivers and firmware. Is this the same issue others are having? Any ideas for a fix?
    Settings:
Photoshop dialog = Photoshop manages color
Epson driver = No color management
    Print = dark output
P.S. The soft proof on the screen looks like it should (similar to CS3 soft proof) but the print does not match the soft proof, like I said too dark.
Thanks in advance for any help or info...
    Jeff

    Here we go again.
The first thing I would do is try the ColorSync workaround to determined if double profiling is going on here.
You could also try convert to profile (paper/printer) and then choose Printer Manages Color in the PS dialog and then turn off CM in the driver. See if it makes any difference.

  • Epson R1900 dark prints from CS5

I had Photoshop 7.0 on my PC and printed to an Epson Stylus Photo R1900 with great results.
I purchased a MacBook Pro and tried printing some of the same art prints (transferred via hard drive) using Photoshop CS5 and the same Epson R1900 printer. The prints are very dark!!  I switched to 'Printer manages color' on the advice of an Epson technician who said PS is managing color based on 4 ink colors. The Epson has eight colors. I have tried multiple settings, I bought a Color Munki and calibrated my monitor. I still can't get the same quality print that I got using my old PC and version 7.0 of Photoshop. Has anyone else solved this problem yet? I have found numerous comments online about the Epson R1900 printing too DARK!

I took my Epson R1900 printer to Washington State University and asked the printer technician to see if he could help.
The instructor and technician were co-teaching my photography class that included adjusting our digital photos in Camera raw and using correct settings in Photoshop to make prints. My prints turned out perfect on the WSU Epson. They were too dark on my R1900-(terrible actually.) I had a photo of mallard chicks with dark brown feathers, on my Epson R1900 they printed out with almost black brown feathers. The instructors tried adjustments (Photoshop manages colors), adjusting curves, and got the same result I did.
We then tested to see if it was my Mac. We used the same image and printed to my Epson from the WSU Macintosh computers.  This same image had printed perfectly on the schools Epson but printed dark on my Epson. Same settings. They suggested that I buy a different printer. The instructor said he had colleagues that had experienced similar problems. I just keep hoping I can find a solution rather than buying new.

  • CS3, Epson 2880 - Dark Prints

Hopefully some one might be able to help as I am a tad stumped with a problem of dark prints from CS3 on an Epson 2880.
    Macbook Pro with 10.4 Tiger
    I have a calibrated monitor
CS3 setup with American Prepress colour settings
Raw picture imported into CS3 with Adobe RGB profile
So I edit the picture as required and then open the print window where I tell photoshop to manage the colours and select the correct ICC profile for my printer and paper. I then go to the Epson print driver and select the correct media type and turn off colour management.
The picture that is printed is 1 to 2 stops darker than what is should be.
Now the strange thing is if I use the Epson Print Plug-in the picture that it displays is generally dark like the print output.
If I didnt know better I would say that another ICC profile is being applied to the picture as it moves either to the print driver or to the Epson Plug-in.
If I check the picture in CS3 with proofing then I get a small colour change as expected but not the dark print that comes out.
Any suggestions much appreciated as this is doing my head in.

Please do a forum search. There are already at least two other threads on the subject of dark prints.

Can you please explain more the missing of the brightness settings? I can set the brightness of my screen using F5 and F6 in combination with the FN key using the keyboard.
The bringhtness also sets automatically depending the environment and the power condition of machine. If you don't like the behaviour of auto setting the brightness you can unselect the option in power optiion in system settings (swiping right to left and selecting settings on the side bar at the bottom).
Seting brightness from the touchscreen ............... that i have to figure out.
If you can share with me what exactly the problem is with your brightness settins I will check if I can reproduce it on my Helix (that is if you have a Helix).
    Hope the above helps .
As to speed. All works great. Try to remember since when your computer started working slow and with the problems of display. Do you regularly back up? If so you can try to restore to the point where all was working great.
Ohhh, ok i found another way to set brightness. You can right click on your battery icon in the system tray and there you should see a dropdownl list with some options and setting brightness is one of the options.

  • Dim/Dark Screen, How to fix it?

I own a Black 3G iPhone that has recently suffered from water damage. I had fixed it from the water damage a day after it had dropped into the toilet (the toilet was clean thank god) but a series of other problems had occurred after fixing it up. Such as harder to press Home Button, some problems regarding its performance, but nothing as worse as having a Dim/Dark Screen.
I had used it one night from texting and calling people to leave it in my charger cradle for the rest of the night. But that morning I had awoken to my phone being a dim/dark screen. I've tried adjusting the brightness meter but it still was dim. I tried blocking the proximity sensor and the ambient sensor with my finger to see if anything would happen but nothing happened. I opened the phone and gave it a yonder and everything was securely in and dry.
I had already restored it, restarted it, what else could I do to preserve me from going to the apple store.

  • Scanning with Epson RX500 and trying Image Capture

I have an Epson RX500.It prints and copies fine. It was scanning fine, using Photoshop Elements, for two years but now it is not recognized (I think this has something to do with updated Tiger 10.4.8. I've tried to reinstall the TWAIN and scanning software but that was useless. I've tried to use Image Capture but get the message when the Scan Setup opens up that "The scanner EPSON Stylus Photo RX500 is in use by another application..."
    Can anyone help?

    Eric,
There are one, or more files (plist, I think), that need to be purged, so that new copies can be made. I don't have those listed anywhere, that I can remember, but if you call Epson, a tech should be able to lead you through them. I only had this problem when I upgraded to 10.4, from 10.3, so memory is hazy.

  • I recently bought an Epson Artisan 837 printer. I installed the driver and now Photoshop from CS3 will not open. It quits when the Twain portion of the program starts loading. Does anyone know how to fix this so my printer will work with Photoshop??

I recently bought an Epson Artisan 837 printer. I installed the driver and now Photoshop from CS3 will not open. It closes every time it gets to the point where it is loading the Twain portion. Does anyone know how to fix this so my printer and Photoshop will work together? Thanks for any help I can get!

    You're welcome.
But, no, don't look to  Epson for fixes to their  driver in newer versions, and Adobe has deprecated the TWAIN plug-in.  Hoping for a solution there is futile.  That has not happened and it's never going to happen.  The consensus is that it's pretty foolish to tie up Photoshop to scan.  Honestly.
Any improvement in the behavior of newer versions of the Epson drivers in that regard would be pure coincidence.
You need to understand that you never, ever scan "within" Photoshop, as Photoshop has no scanning capabilities whatsoever.  When you use the Import > Twain plug-in all you are doing is blocking Photoshop while you call up the stand-alone Epson scanning software.  If you think about it, its most inefficient.
VueScan has a pretty powerful scanning plug-in that can be called from the Impost menu—if you insist.  VueScan is not free, but it's a pretty good value, IMO.
As for the Epson CD printing software, I have no clue.  Sorry.

  • How Do I BORDERLESS PRINT on Epson RX500 in 10.4.7?

    Hello,
    When I set up my Epson RX500 All-In-One printer/scanner I was using 10.3 Panther.
The Print Setup Utility looked just like it does in the setup guide that comes with the unit.
I never used Borderless Printing but in the "Printer List" it showed Stylus Photo RX500 and Stylus Photo RX500(Sheet Feeder - Borderless).
Now a year later (after upgrading to 10.4.7) I want to do some borderless printing with 4x6 and 5x7 photo paper but the "Stylus Photo RX500(Sheet Feeder - Borderless)" listing is not there anymore.
Also the Printer Setup Utility has changed. The screens aren't like they were in 10.3 (where I select EPSON USB from a pull-down menu, etc).
I went to the Epson Website to download new drivers but they only have
TWAIN Driver and EPSON Scan Utility v2.65A for Macintosh OS X (v10.2.x - 10.3.x)
    OR
Printer Driver v3.0aAs for Intel-based Macs with OS X (v10.4.4 or later). There isn't one for PowerPC 10.4.
I CAN print a supposed 4x6 borderless print using Page Setup and "4x6 Borderless" setting for Paper Size but it doesn't come out borderless -- it has borders. There is a 5x7 setting but it doesn't say borderless.
Any help with this problem? I really would like to see the "Sheet Feeder - Borderless" in my Printer List again and do some true bordeless printing!
    Thanks!!
    PowerMac FW800 (G4), iMac G4 800 SuperDrive   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Thank you so much that was a big help.
After you do that, though, you have to click on the Page Setup drop down menu and select Borderless Sheet Feeder instead of Standard from the list -- that's the part I wasn't doing. It defaults to "Standard", whatever that is, and doesn't make the Borderless Printing available if you don't change it.
After that, though, I couldn't get the border even when I wanted one (which I do sometimes) using the RX500 regular setting (NOT borderless) -- it's makes about a 1/10" border instead of a 1/2" one.
FWIW I found that if you then delete Borderless Sheet Feeder (that I tried so hard to get!) from the Printer List and re-start the computer you will then have true border printing again! Re-install Borderless driver to get true borderless again (ugh). I guess I'll have to do that because sometimes I want borderless and other times I don't.
    Thanks!!

  • Photoshop CS6 is not recognizing my Epson Photo 1400 printer...how to fix?

I cannot print anything from Photoshop CS6. When i try to print any / all types of files from Photoshop CS6 to my Epson Photo 1400 printer, I get the following error message:
"There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents."
I can print all / anything (.pdf .tif.png, etc.) from ALL other applications-except from Photoshop.
I only have one printer and it is recognized in my System Prefs.
    I have OS X 10.9.2 (13C64) and Photoshop 13.0 x64
    What to do....?
    Thank you in advance!!!

    Hi Chris,
I have the current version of PS and the most current printer driver. I deleted the Adobe CS6 Prefs.psp file and relaunched PS. I actually got closer this time, it looked like i could print but then i got this error message: ColorSync color matching may produce different results than printer color management. Either Photoshop color management or printer color management is recommended. I clicked Ok , the print preview window no longer showed my document and when I went to hit the print button, the original error message came up again. I go to File / Print and Print is no disabled (grayed out).

  • Problems printing from Epson RX500 in Snow Leopard

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro. I downloaded the software update for my Epson photo RX500. Every time I try to print, I get an error message which says "/System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr failed" Does anyone know what this means, and more importantly, how to fix it? Thanks for any ideas.

I too have an Epson Stylus Photo RX500. Also just bought the new iMac with Snow Leopard. I downloaded Apple’s driver and it was installed by the system. The printer and copying are working just fine, BUT I cannot get the software for the scan to open. It comes to the dock, bounces, then disappears. I went to the Epson web site, but didn’t see any help there. It does seem that Epson has given up supporting Apple’s new computers. That, or they are just behind times. :-D I am going to try to send them an e-mail and hope that I get an answer. Frustrating, isn’t it!!

  • [FIX] Darker prints and color shifts when printing from Lightroom 2

    Hi,
    The problem :
When printing RAW or TIFF files from LR2, you get a printer output that
is much darker than it should be and that presents various color shifts.
I'm using an Epson Stylus Pro 3800 with the latest Windows driver
(6.50 - which is rather old by the way). The workaround described below
works for me under Windows XP SP3. It should also probably work with
other systems/printers/drivers. Use at your own (minor) risk.
The "official" procedure for printing from LR is as follows:
    1. Do not let the printer manage colors and select "Other..." from the
profile dropdown list and select the ICC/ICM paper/printer profile that
    you want to use.
    2. Click on Print... in LR which opens the Print Settings dialog.
    3. Select the options you need and the paper you're using.
    4. **Disable the color management from the driver's side** (in Epson's
drivers, "Mode | Custom | No Color Adjustments").
    5. Print
Unfortunately, **this doesn't work** for many of us and this produces a
print that is dark and has color shifts as mentioned above. Note that
the same image prints correctly from QImage or Photoshop CS3 (that is,
the printer output corresponds to what you see on your calibrated
    display).
Apparently, although color management has been (allegedly) disabled in
the driver, there's something wrong between LR and the driver which
makes that *both* LR and the driver are still trying to manage colors.
In other words, the "No Color Adjustements" option of the driver doesn't
    seem to work with LR.
The workaround (found after hours of hair pulling and paper and
    expensive ink wasting):
    In step #4,
    1. Instead of selecting "No Color Adjustments", set Mode to "Custom |
    ICM
    2. Click Advanced...
    3. Check "Show all profiles".
    4. Select Driver ICM (Advanced)"
    5. Set **both** the "Input profile" and the "Printer profile" fields to
the very same profile that you specified in LR.
That is, if you specified Pro38 PGPP (Premium Glossy Photo Paper) in LR,
then also select Pro38 PGPP in both "Input Profile" and "Printer
Profile". This has actually the same effect has disabling color
management in the driver (what "No Color Adjustements" should normally
    take care of).
That's it. When printing, you'll get exactly the same color results as
when printing from QImage or Photoshop. No more dark prints. No more
    color shifts.
One might think that the bug is in the Epson driver but in that case,
QImage would have the very same problem. So I tend to think that the bug
    is on the Lightroom side.
Note: Although Photoshop CS3 produces a correct printer output, it
demonstrates the same problem as LR when using the "Match Print Color"
option for soft proofing. But in that case, only the preview colors are
wrong. The printer output is ok. Which also tends to demonstrate that
Adobe has the problem, not Epson. Or maybe both... :-) .
Don't ask me why some users have the problem and other don't.
    Hope this helps.

A sincere thank you for your reply, Michael. Sorry about the "it just doesn't make sense" shortcut. I have been trying to solve this issue since LR 1.1, spending dozens of hours on different trials and digesting everything written on this forum and the B9180 forum about color management and double profiling. My shortcut was a summation of my experience (and my frustration) but doesn't really advance the conversation. Here are some data that should be more useful in diagnosing the problem.
I am running Windows XP SP2. I calibrate my monitor monthly with the Spyder. The reason I suspect this may be an issue of double profiling is because the results (moderately strong magenta overlay plus an increase in contrast) match what more knowledgeable people than I on this forum describe when double profiling occurs. Perhaps I shouldn't presume it is double profiling, and follow Patrick Philippot's lead in naming the problem "color shifts." Patrick does refer in post #2 of this thread, however, to obvious double profiling.
I certainly do have a successful and consistent print method. With PS CS3, and either my Epson 1280 or my HP B9180, the output is almost always dead on. Here is how I do it. In PS from the print dialog box, under color handling I always choose "Photoshop manages colors." Then under printer profile I select the profile designated by the manufacturer for a particular paper/printer combination. Then in the printer driver I disable printer control of color. With the Epson I check the box "Off (No Color Adjustment)." With the B9180 I choose the option "Application Managed Colors." While I sometimes may tweak the final output, these procedures have served me well with PS for several years.
Contrasted with my positive PS experience, my experience with LR printing has been inconsistent. I regret having to be so imprecise but truly sometimes LR produces accurate results that match the calibrated monitor, but most of the time it does not. I use standard procedures with LR that parallel the PS ones described above. In LR's printing panel, under color management, I specify the correct profile, just as I did for PS. Then in the printer driver I use the same procedures I use with PS. Most of the time the prints have the magenta overlay and too much contrast.
BTW, the inconsistent LR printing only takes place with my HP B9180. I have never had any problem with off-color LR prints with my Epson 1280. Again, I emphasize that I have standard procedures that always work with PS (no matter which printer) and LR (but only with the Epson).
Unfortunately the LR printing problems are intermittent. Some of the time (perhaps 20%) LR produces fine prints in the B9180, indistinguishable from PS prints. When LR is printing well, it will continue to print fine until "something happens" and the output shows the color shift. This means I do not get a random sequence of good-bad-good-bad prints, but rather good-good-x factor-bad-bad-bad. Ths problem is that I do not know what this "x factor" is. Once, when LR was giving me accurate output, I simply changed the default printer (Control Panel-Printers and Faxes) from the B9180 to my Samsung 1430 laser; immediately afterwards the LR output colors shifted. Did LR react to this change in default printers? Another time I had good LR printing success with version 1.2 but ran into the problems described above when I upgraded to version 1.3.
Sorry for the long post. I am hoping that someone will see something that I am missing and provide a hint. I think, though, that Patrick is correct when he states, "I tend to think that the problem is with LR. After all, similar issues (obvious double profiling) are observed only in LR but with various printers."

In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

  • DARK PRINTS on Epson R2400

I know this has been discussed in other threads. What I did not find posted elsewhere was "the" solution to my problem of dark prints with Lightroom on an Intel Mac, that was provided by Epson Tech Support this morning. First, I've tried all the other suggestions including-
    1. direct USB connection
    2. Not color managed
    3. calibrate monitor
    4. update drivers
    5. select correct ICC profile
    etc., etc., etc!!!
    What did it for me-
    DUH!
Nozzle Check - to indicate that there was a problem, and
Head Cleaning - to correct the problem.
Now, printed photos look like previews on screen.
    Hope this helps someone else.
    Thank you Epson!
    Dave

I have to chime in and say that:
    1. I used to have the same problem with dark prints from LR to my Epson R1800.
    2. I'm quite convinced that the problem is due to either a combination of the following, or just one of the following:
2.a. A "faulty" driver installation. Wrong driver ppc driver instead of macintel driver. Multiple drivers installed with different version numbers. It is possible to end up with two drivers for one epson printer. I know. I have.
2b. Not setting up LR AND the Mac OS print dialog options correctly when printing.
2c. Not installing the printer correctly in the System Preferences.
2d. An ink problem in the printer. Clogging etc.
    Possible solutions:
Check in Computer:Library:Printers: to see if you have more than one driver installed.
Or just trash anything Epson in this folder and reinstall the driver. (Keep a backup if you don't know what you are doing, and don't blame me if you mess things up ;-) .
Make sure you install the correct driver, don't use the ppc-driver on an intel-mac.
When you add your printer in the system preferences make sure to click on the "More Printers" button and choose either Epson-USB or Epson-Firewire (Depends on how you connect it obviously). DON'T install it in the first dialog window that appears after you click the +button in the Printers and Fax window in system preferences.
In LR you have to set up correctly with the correct icc-profile for your paper.
In LR press Page Setup and choose the correct printer and paper format in that os dialog.
In LR press the Printer Settings button and in that os dialog window you have to choose no color management - as stated many times before :-)
And of course you have to select the correct paper here as well and other settings like "best photo" and so on.
Make sure you have Standard selected as the Preset in the Print Settings dialog and then Option-click on the Save button to save your settings.
Now you can make a template in LR with your settings.
You shall always use Standard as the preset even when you make a new print template in LR with different settings. Somehow they stick when you use Standard, but they don't stick if you choose a different name for the preset in the os print settings dialog.
I hope you can understand all of the above let me know if not and I will try to explain.
    /Andreas

  • Any ideas how to fix my mac book pro to canon pixma mp640 printer connection?

Anyone have any ideas how to fix my mac book pro to canon pimxa mp640 printer link? The two are connected manually yet the ! remains on the 'print' page next to the printer name. it was working fine until i changed the ink cartridges. Without the wireless password - which I've never had and don't supposedly need as it's not a wireless connection, I am being prevented from resuming printing.

If it's on a windows network you have to enter your (windows) log in (name/password) credentials.
This should be a 1 time event. It will remember it thereafter.
