Epson S.P. R340 won't print -- stalled at "Processing" stage

I have an Epson R340 and an iBook G3 from about 4.5 years ago. When I first tried to install the printer on this computer, I was running OS X 10.3.9, and I had the same problem, but someone told me to do something I don't remember and the problem was solved. Since then, I've erased and re-installed OS X 10.2.8 on the hard drive (I can't find my 10.3.9 install CD) and I'm having the same trouble with this Epson printer that I did before.
Basically, the problem is that I will follow every installation direction perfectly, and the printer will appear to have installed exactly as promised on my computer. It appears in the printer center with all the proper settings applied, and when I try to print something, it even goes through the normal printing steps. The problem is, I will hit "Print" on a Word document (or any document, for that matter), and I will wait and wait and the printer just won't respond. When I open the Print Center to take a look, it says that the "Epson Stylus Photo R340" is "Printing," and when I click on that and bring up the Epson R340 screen it has the document in the line to be printed and the appropriate document information listed at the top. The problem is, the progress bar is not full at all, and the words "Processing" appear at the top. While this is normal printing procedure, it is not normal for the "Processing" phase to extend indefinately without progress, and the printer to remain completely unresponsive throughout the entire process.
I've everything to make this work, most recently erasing the "Epson" folder from the "Printer" folder in "Library" and reinstalling the newest driver from the Epson website. I know I had this exact same problemm last time, with it stalling at the "Processing" stage and everything else being perfect, but I cannot remember the help I was given to fix the problem.
Any ideas?
Many thanks,
Max

  • Epson Stylus Photo R2400 won't print large pages?

I recently upgraded to Mac OS X Leopard. I immediately had problems with printing to my Epson Stylus Photo R2400 as a print driver gutenprint had suddenly replace my Epson driver when going thu dialog to print. Called and Epson and they got me thru process of getting rid of the newly replaced gutenprint to an Epson driver. Problem is I can't print anything larger than an 8.5x11 page. The printer set up says and shows me that what I have set as an 11x17 or 13x19 is going to print. But all that prints on this large expensive paper is an area 8.5x8.5. No matter what I change in set up. Epson says they have done all they can do. (And I just found out last week they have replaced this printer with another printer). I have hundreds of dollars in newly purchased inks and I am wasting expensive paper.
Also I had to remove the patch for OS leopard to get the printer to work in this diminished capacity.
And my email signature disappeared. Can't get that back either.
But printer is my biggest problem. Any suggestions how to get this printer to work with this new OS leopard and print large sizes? I have deadlines and hate to outsource the printing when I could easily do it in house.

Well, you picked the very hardest way to do it, and as time goes on, you will probably discover many other things wrong with your system as well. You CANNOT go back to Tiger from Leopard via an archive and install; you have to wipe the drive and start over from scratch, and then transfer all your data over from a backup and reinstall most, if not all, of your applications so the right elements are in the right places. Even so you'll never get your system exactly back to where it was, unless you had a perfect bootable Tiger backup (via SuperDuper) and merely restored from that. Obviously whatever Leopard element that killed your printing capability is still on your frankenstein system of BOTH Tiger and Leopard parts.
There are hundreds of posts on the issue of reverting to Tiger from Leopard, many quite detailed. So many things are changed from upgrading from one to the other that what you attempted (unless you completely wiped the drive and all your data) has always proven disastrous, which is why I highly recommended against it after reading hundreds of horror stories here.
I suggest doing a search at downgrading from Leopard to Tiger, following those instructions if you can, and making the best of it. You'll find that springing the $200 for an external drive would have been a much better and easier solution, because it can come in very handy if you ever need to do any maintenance on your internal hard drive, or if some update or problems kill your internal drive and you can't even boot the system. Not to mention sooner or later always needing more storage capability, and even a drive for reliable backups.
I would never dream of attempting a downgrade or needing to do it in the first place (having taken precautions as to never have to), so I can't give you any further advice than that.

Try Reset Printing System, a menu choice in Printer Setup Utility.
    You haven't tried installing anything - don't!

  • Epson Stylus Photo 700 won't print in OS 9.2

    HI,
I got my usb to parallel adapter to work with my Stylus Photo 700 on my Blueberry with OS 10.3.9 and usbtb and gimp=Print. I have been trying to figure out how to get it to work in the classic environment-9.2.2. The Epson window comes up and Ii have access to utilities there but the "*printer is not available*"
Any ideas how to overcome that little problem?
    Thanks,
    Warren McNeely

    If this article doesn't work:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300849
Then you need a Mac OS 9 version of both the printer driver and the USB to Parallel adapter. Unfortunately the company that makes the older version of the driver has a website domain that no longer works if Keyspan's drivers don't work. That company was Strydent, and their driver was called Powerprint. You may want to toss that printer and get one known to work in the Classic environment. Only Canon has on their support pages listings of printers that do work in the Classic environment. You may find more info that is relevant on my FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/printersx.html
You may be able to find someone whos still has Strydent's software, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Then a few weeks later I installed Windows7 through Bootcamp and I think it reconfigured a port or something and now I get a communication error and it won't print. • I have a new Epson wireless printer connected and the iPad recognizes it but it won't print. What is AirPrint and how do I connect it?

I have a new Epson wireless printer connected and the iPad recognizes it but it still won't print.  What is AirPrint & how do I connect to it?

    Patti-
Is your Epson printer on Apple's list of AirPrint capable printers?  See <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356>.
If it is an AirPrint printer, then your WiFi router may not correctly handle Bonjour data required by AirPrint.  Contact the router's manufacturer to see if there is a change to its setup or a firmware update, that will make it work.
One other possibility is that there could be a print job stuck in the iPad's print queue.  Double click the iPad's Home button and a row of recent Apps will appear along the bottom of the screen.  Scroll across and see if the Print Center is there.

  • CS4 PS won't print to USB Epson 4900

It does, however, print happily to a USB Epson 2200 plugged into the same machine. All other apps on this Mountain Lion Mac Mini, including CS4 Illustrator, print fine to the 4900.  I have tried both a USB and a network connection to the printer with the same result. There is *some* small output to the printer (just a flash on the print monitor), but no output results.  Suggestions?

    Hi TLL
Thanks for your reply!  I guess I'd have to say no, it hasn't ever worked right, because this is a new installation on a new mac mini.  PS worked fine to that printer on my old mac G5, but it has yet to work from the mini.  Other info:  PS on the G5 will even print to that printer as an "attached printer" on the mini!  The only thing that won't print to the 4900 is PS running on the mini itself.
Drivers!  Epson warned not to use the install disk that came with the printer for Mountain Lion, so I got them online (actually did it several times).  That still seems the most likely problem, except that every other app on the mini, including Illustrator CS4 from the same cd as PS, prints fine.
I tried Colorbyte Imageprint, and it can print PS output to the printer, so all is not lost:  all is just weird and/or expensive.
    Thanks!
    Jack

Open the Sharing pane in System Preferences. If the Computer Name is not set, enter a name. You may first have to click the lock icon in the lower left corner and authenticate to unlock the settings.

I'm having similar problems with my Epson Stylus DX5000.  There was no in-built driver available (the generic old and new Stylus drivers didn't work), so downloaded the latest driver from Epson site.  It shows as being available to print to, but just sends data to the print queue then job disappears.
I hope you're right C F McBlob, I could do with printing today but if there are new drivers available from November 5, then so be it.

  • Epson PS R2400 won't print 13 by 20

For the last few days, my Epson Photo Smart R2400 will only print a 8.5 x 11 portion of a 13x20 document. I have iMac Power Mac on 10.5.6. I have tried everything possible to get this printer to print the full page (and I've been using these printers and ID professionally for almost 10 years). Epson says it's an InDesign problem (CS3). I can export a PDF and it prints almost full size in Photoshop. Have ALL latest drivers, upgrades, etc. Anyone else have this problem? Do I have to reinstall CS3?
And believe me when I say I've tried every possible paper combination, trashed preferences, reinstalled drivers, reinstalled printers -- unless there's that one, obscure box that is/isn't ticked I've managed to miss for the past seven days.
I have a deadline, of course, and would very much appreciate any help.

Thanks, Tom, we've tracked down everything, reinstalled CS3, Epson drivers. This problem is InDesign specific. The printer will print large format in Photoshop, Illustrator, MSWord, etc., but NOT InDesign (with brand new documents with only a lined box on the page.) Only 8.5x11. I've jiggered margins, paper selectors, you name it, and it doesn't help. The same file prints out in CS4 (another designer's machine). I haven't brought it over to my house, but that won't solve this mystery.
Does anyone have any idea why this version of ID will only print 8.5 x 11 of the large format?

  • Epson Stylus S21 won't print on OS Mavericks

    Hi,
I've been able to install my epson printer on my macbook but it won't print.
Every time I try to print, an error occurs and when I go looking for the fault, I find the following message:
"The function 'CGContextErase' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overaal degradation of system performance."
Is there any way to solve this?
    Thanks

On this page:  Support and Downloads - Epson Stylus S21 - Epson it looks like the last driver Epson had available for "OSX - Intel" was from 2009, so it would appear that there is no Mavericks-compatible driver for your printer.
    You could try this, though:
    uninstall all Epson apps/"utilities"
go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
control-click on your printer in the column on the left
select "Reset Printing System..." and "reset" in the dialog that follows
printers & scanners and it should see your printer and download a driver for it from Apple (if there is one)
If that doesn't work, try the Generic PCL printer setting in Printers & Scanners: OS X Mountain Lion: If the software for your printer can’t be found (the reference is for ML but it still applies to Mavericks)
if that doesn't work, see if there is a driver for your printer at Gutenprint for Mac OS X

  • Epson Workforce 30 printer won't print

I have installed all the latest updates, including an Apple Epson printer update, and the printer driver from Epson's website.
Still this thing won't print. All that happens is an error in the printer queue.
    Anyone have any clues?

    Some suggestions to try
    Another USB cable
Turning off the Epson power for a minute and then back on again
Removing the print queue and adding it again
    Resetting the printing system
Note that when you reset the printing system the printers in Print & Fax are deleted, but not their printer drivers. So you don't need to run the printer driver installers again, you just need to add the print queues again. For a USB connected printer, this can be done by simply unplugging the USB cable and plugging it back into the Mac agian.
How to Reset the Printing System
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse
    4. Click the "Reset printing system ..." popup
    5. Restart your Mac
