Epson Scan not available in PS-CS4

Contrary to my previous versions of PS, I have installed everything as I should including the Epson Scan software / interface.
I don't have any option to cue the Epson Scan from within PS, including from the usual File > Import tab.... nothing there.
I can however go to the System Prefs. "Print/Scan" and scan to disc for example. It is my only scan app. and is set as the preferred printer and scanner.
Is there known issues or limitations with Epson Scan software and PS-CS4? Any quick fix?

It is not a good idea to use the epson ps twain plug in I do not believe there is one actually you would actually have to install the twin acquire plug in from the Goodies folder on the install disk.
I has been determined that one would better off for stability reasons to scan into the standalone Epson Scanner Drivers.
If you use the wain pug in you will be sorry you did.

ICC Profiles Not Available in InDesign CS4

Hello all-
I have a lot of ICC profiles installed on my system (OS X 10.6.2); some are in /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ and some are in ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/.
They are not available in InDesign CS4, even though every other app (including Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat) see them just fine.
Is this a know issue/bug with CS4 and Snow Leopard? I don't recall having this issue on my old machine.

A followup to this issue:
This morning I couldn't launch Illustrator CS4, it kept crashing at launch. Scanning through the OS X crashlog I noticed 511 "Iterative Profile" errors:
### com.apple.ColorSync 0x91e1981d iterateProfilesInDirectory + 1020
I went into my /Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder and noticed there was now an alias pointing into Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles/, which already contained an alias back to /Library/ColorSync/Profiles to get around the InDesign issue (as described above, which was working fine to this point). This created an infinite loop...
I did not create this new alias... any idea where it might have come from?
(Adobe needs to fix InDesign so it looks in the correct locations for profiles... the user shouldn't have to resort to manipulating aliases to enable profiles that are otherwise in the correct locations, and why do Adobe apps need their own profiles folder anyway????? As with their private Fonts folder, it does nothing but over-complicate matters...)

SCANNER UPDATES FOR EPSON v500 not available for maverick?

OK - I updated to MAverick and have no scanner. You know, the little white circle with the line through it, indicating that the woftware and drivers will not work on Maverick. So, I went to Epson (I have Epson perfection v500 photo scanner), and they direct me to Apple Software Update at Apple Store. The Apple Store has no update for the epson. And, in an article, says that third party software need be gotten from the maker. so, how do I update. anyone know? Since apple insists that all updates go through apple store, they should be up to date on everything as they try to corner this market. a little upset.

Has actually been removed from the Epson sites.
Only the old drivers and the ICA Scanner driver (very limited and thus with poor performance) remained.
I think Epson is only interested in selling new stuff (look at the questionnaire they ask you to fill in when you visit their sites).
But the question remains: what to do with my precious EPSON PERFECTION V700 PHOTO scanner?
Buy a cheap WINDOWS machine and tranfer the results to my iMAC?
Weird, but in the given circumstances maybe the only workable fast solution with guaranteed results.

Digital ICE epson scan (professional mode) does not work

I am running the latest Mountian Lion OS on my IMAC and have recently started running some test scans with my Epson Perfection V700 scanner. The supplied Epson software , Epson Scan offers a variety of operating modes, "professional mode" offering the most features. Professional mode offers Digital ICE as an option, however when selected, the Digital ICE does not work.I have compared scans with and without digital ICE and they are exactly the same. Scratches and dirt are not removed by the scan.
If I select a more basic mode ("Home Mode") Digital ICE does work. But this other mode does not offer the range of options offered in porfessional mode.
Has anyone out there used Epson Scan software? Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there other scanning software out there which could fully exploit the features of the Epson scanner I have? I tried Vuescn and it does not seem to be compatible with my scanner, so that is off the table.

You should first read the user manual that came w/your scanner and/or contact Epson tech support.
How is the scanner connected to your iMac? USB cable? Wireless? Firewire?

Thank you for your suggestion. Image Capture does not recognize the scanner.
I have tried reset and that did not work either.
Interestingly enough, I have Windows XP partitioned and the scanner functions perfectly. Just would be nice it I did not have to switch to XP every time I need to scan.

Not all installed fonts are available in Illustrator CS4

Hi,
I've noticed that not all of my fonts are available in Illustrator CS4. My list appears as usual in the drop down menu, but many of my fonts have somehow become incomplete. For instance, only 3 weights of Helvetica are available, instead of the 20 or so I have installed on my Macbook Pro. I use Linotype Fontexplorer, and all of my fonts appear without problems in the browser window, but not in Illustrator.
I've deleted the Adobefontlist file with no result, and I've also tried uninstalling the fonts and reinstalling them with no result. I've had a few searches to see if anyone else has had the same problem, and some people have similar issues but not exactly the same. I've also tried some of the adobe troubleshooting steps with no result.
Any help with this would be gratefully received. Somebody must have experienced the same problem?

Thanks Jesseham, a good suggestion. All fonts within the families are ticked like you say, and I've just performed a clear out of the caches but still no success I'm afraid.
I've attached a picture of my font list in Illustrator in the hope that someone might see something that I'm not. As you can see from the list, Helvetica Neue LT Std is in the list as Helvetica Neue LT Std 85 Heavy and only has the option of 'Regular' under the font style drop down menu. It should be just Helvetica Neue LT Std in the font list drop down menu and have all of the available weights in the font style drop down menu.
Any thoughts?

Scan to pdf not available in Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard

I have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard installed on a PC with Windows XP Pro. The scan to PDF feature is not available anywhere in the program but should be as far as I am informed. Does anyone know what to do? Thanks.

Do you have a scanner attached? Does it work in standard graphics packages? Is it set up with a Twain interface? Contrary to what Geeks on Hugs is telling you, Mac OS X does indeed have a basic malware scanner. It is not a feature that is directly accessible to the user, and works a bit differently than every other malware scanner out there. Gatekeeper, which has been mentioned here, is entirely separate, and provides a different method for helping to protect you against malware.
The anti-malware scanner in Mac OS X is called XProtect. When you download an application (or any other kind of executable code), it is automatically "quarantined," so that when you open it you're asked if you really want to do that. I'm sure you're very familiar with this aspect of Mac OS X if you have ever downloaded any apps from outside the App Store. What you don't know, though, is that each time you try to open a new app, that app is checked by XProtect. If it is identified as malware, you will not be allowed to open it, and will be warned that it's malware.
At this time, there is no known malware that can infect a properly up-to-date Mac. All current malware will be blocked by one or more methods.

DC CS4 "Bluetooth not available"

I am trying to link to a Nokia E71 in a project in Device Central CS4. In the "New Project" dialog box, I am able to select the phone and the resource file (swf file). However, when I select a new task- "Send to Bluetooth Device" and click the "Search" button to selct the device to link to, I get a "Script Alert" message that says "Bletooth is not available". I also get an error when I select the task "Copy File to...".
I am able to synchronise my laptop and phone and do all sorts of other bluetooth things with them quite successfully. The laptop is a Toshiba Portege M750.
Can anyone tell what is going on or provide a solution?

What is wrong and how do I fix it? I've installed this on my sister's laptop as well, but I've already uninstall it. Could this be the reason why?

The problem has nothing to do with the fact that you already installed the same software on your "sister's laptop as well." And although you have already uninstalled it (and hopefully deactivated it as well), please remember that this software is licensed for a single user! You and your sister cannot somehow share the license.

InDesign CS4 can open .indd, .indt and .inx files from earlier versions, but not from later. It should, however, be able to open .idml files saved or exported from newer versions, with the understanding that unsupported features will be lost, text will probably reflow due to differences in texts engines between versions, and that the greater the gap between versions the more likely there are to be noticeable differences from the original. You will need to be sure CS4 is at version 7.0.6 to read the .idml.

My Epson Scan software running my Epson Perfection v500 Photo will not run after upgrading to mavericks. Any suggestions?

After upgrading to Mavericks I find that the Epson Scan software will no longer run so I cannot now use my Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner. Is there a solution to this? If not can I delete Mavericks and go back to Mountain Lion?

Epson is working on new drivers / software for this scanner.
Until then, you can perform basic scanning from Image Capture.
Or go for 3rd party app. like vuescan.

Scanner not available, OR scan will not save to file

Hello, HP M1212nf, using HP Director/HP Scan 1.1, on an iMac running OS 10.6.8.
On the control panel, the Ready light is on, the Attention light is off, and the Toner light is blinking.
I try to scan a document, but get "the scanner is not available" message. USB connections are good...
Occasionally, it does scan successfully. But then when I try to save it as a file, all steps work beautifully -- PDF/JPEG/etc, name file, choose destination -- but the supposedly saved file is nowhere to be found. (Spotlight doesn't see it, and it's certainly not in the destination I chose.)
What's going on, and how do I fix it?!

The config pages print beautifully, although the toner light (yellow) is flashing.

The scanning problems (not being able to save to file, and sometimes, “scanner not available”) are not affecting printing. The print function works beautifully, even though the machine seems to think its toner level is low (flashing yellow light).

Printer was connected through a power bar. I changed it, straight into wall socket.
I do have another USB cable, have replaced the one I was using with the other one.
Same problem persists: “save as PDF” refuses to work: the file seems to disappear, and Spotlight doesn’t find it anywhere.
The only work-around I have found is to choose “e-mail” instead— this puts the PDF into an e-mail, from where I can move it to where I need it. This solves the problem, sort of, but it’s a tedious long way around.

OK, all done. Closing SysPrefs and trying again.
Behaviour is largely the same. Two issues:
1- Now and then I get “scanner not available” message. Turning off the printer and quitting HP Director, then turning printer back on and restarting HP Director, usually gets past this “unavailable” issue— it scans successfully. Sometimes it takes more than one off/on quit/restart cycle to banish the “unavailable" message. This is not a faulty cable or connection issue. What the *$%^%# is it?!
2- scanned file won’t save— BUT here’s some progress: if I save under a different name, like “test”, there’s no problem. If I save under the name I want, which for the current page is “Arrival Va 1/2”, it disappears instead of saving. Could my problem be this simple: In the "save as file" dialogue box, I’m not allowed to use a symbol like “/“ as part of the file name?????
If that’s it, I can work around it, just saving the file and changing the name afterward.
I hate to think, after all this hair-pulling (and I don’t have that much to start with), it might be as simple as that!!
But it seems to be: saving as “Arrival Va 1/2” doesn't work, but saving as “Arrival Va 1 2” does.
Even if that’s it, I’d still much appreciate your thoughts on the “not available” messages...

Epson Scan for Stylus CX5400 Not Launching

Each time I try to launch my Epson Scan, either in the dock or in the applications folder, the application begins to launch and then quits. It will do this in different accounts. It will do this, when I'm only logged into one account.
I've gone to the Epson support site, and downloaded the best driver I could (Epson Scan Utility v2.65A, for 10.3.x). I've used this scanner before, so I'm not sure how to fix this problem.
Any suggestions? I would love to know how to get this scanner working again.

For what it's worth, I solved my own problem, by simply INSTALLING the downloaded driver from Epson (duh).
Scanner now works like it has.
One other tip, which I had picked up some time ago from an Epson support person, Fast User Switching fouls up the scanner driver. So be mindful of that.
