Epson scanner 1670 and Mavericks

I tried to install an Epson Perfection 1670 scanner after updating to Mavericks but can't find offical Epson update drivers and/or any workaround to fully use my scanner. Image capture sees the device, but doesn't allow me to use its slides/negatives part (just flatbed regular scans), same with VueScan. Is there any other solution available? No driver on Epson afwul web sites..... Can someone help me please?

the same thing happens to me, and there isnt any drivers avaliable, not from apple or epson. this is so frustrating

  • Epson PictureMate Deluxe and Mavericks

Mid-2009 Intel Mac recently reformatted with a clean new Mavericks from a USB based installer does not show Epson PictureMate Drivers available either in the Printer System Preferences or in Software Update.  This installation of Mavericks has been troublesome from the start, and this is yet another in a long line of issues.  (Finder disappearing and restarting, Safari crashing, etc...).  This is the THIRD reinstallation of Mavericks and it looks to be more stable, but the Printer Drivers are missing.  Oddly, in one of my previous attempts to isntall Mavericks, the Printer installation process worked perfectly.
Also, my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro which was gracefully upgraded from a Mountain Lion (10.8) has been bullet proof and rock solid.
Any idea how I can jiggle this iMac to recognize it needs to download and install the Epson print drivers to make the PictureMate work?

I resolved this myself by connecting the printer to a USB port, then running a reinstallation of Mavericks over the existing installation.  This time the software was properly installed, and its newer version properly showed up in the Software update.

Hi, upgraded to Mavericks and Epson scanner software was quarantined. Powered on the scanner, plugged in the USB, clicked Software Update, and an Epson Printer Software Update appeared in the App Store Updatees area.  Clicked Update for the Epson printer software.  During the download, I was presented with a dialog asking me if I wanted the software to be automatically installed. I chose the "not now" option and as far as the App Store in concerned the software was installed, but it has not been.  Where did this go to and how can I force it to install?  Or is there some way to force the App Store to go through the download process again.  Many thanks!   Joseph

I installed OS X Mavericks and now my Epson Scanner Perfection Series V330 Photo refuses to open. Is there a new driver available? I am scanning my work for a book publication and I need my scanner urgently. I tried Image capture but scanner is not detected.

Looks like all Epson scanners will fail under Mvrx. And who knows when an updated driver will be available. It's not as if they have had a while to do it already.
After I noticed mine wouldn't work, I deleted my Workforce 610 and re-added it by pressing the + and instead of going for the IP versions that may pop up, that they say to do under normal conditions, select the Bonjour version. When you select the new printer/scanner in the Printers & Scanners Control Panel, then open the control window and then look in the dock and see if your printer is there. Right click on it and go to "Keep in Dock" for easy Access. In the printer panel there should be a little picture of a scanner on the right side. Click on it or type Commmand-3 and the built-in scanner software/utility will come up. After playing with it I think it's better than and there are some cool features that are not in the stock Epson software.
    Hope this helps.

  • Epson scanner and image capture: blank white image

I've been trying to make an epson perfection 1670 scanner work on an iMac running 10.6.4
Since epson no longer specifically supports this model I am going to Image Capture and the epson drivers supplied by Apple. I have downloaded/installed the updated drivers twice (once via software update and once manually from apple support).
I can get image capture to recognize the scanner and perform preview and full scans.
The frustrating thing is that the image generated is completely blank; a white page. I have tried using the scanner and image capture on two other mac's (macBook pro, macBook) both running 10.6.4 and both of these produce the same white page (although they do recognize the scanner).
I thought the scanner may have finally broken so i tested it on another (old) iMac G3 running os x 10.4.11 and epson's scanning utility; it worked fine and made a nice scan.
I have tried to get epson's scanning utility to work under 10.6.4 by reinstalling it; I can get it to startup and run the scanner but it too produces a blank white image!
I conclude there is some basic software incompatibility between the drivers and os x 10.6.4. Its odd that the drivers and image capture can run the scanner but cannot send an image to the computer.
The epson driver in the latest apple update is version 5.2.5 (Copyright 2003 ???) while the latest driver on the epson site (for image capture) is 5.3. Tried to download the epson driver and got file not found (*!%#?&).
done what I can; any suggestions?

I had the same problem with my Epson 1260 scanner. The "updated" drivers provided by both Apple and Epson produced the exact same result - blank white pages, or if anything showed up at all, it would be all chopped up and skewed, like it had gone through a shredder. Trying to adjust the brightness and other slider settings made no difference.
After wrestling with it for a week, I finally found a solution. First make sure Rosetta is installed. Use the old PowerPC Epson TWAIN driver from 2003; with the filename EPSON TWAIN 5.ds. Put it in the folder /Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources/.
Then, don't use Image Capture. Download Graphic Converter. Set it to open in Rosetta mode. Then you can use Graphic Converter's File -> Acquire -> TWAIN Acquire... menu command to scan using the old EPSON TWAIN driver.

  • Older (Perfection 1670) Epson Scanner disappearing during successful scans

    Hey.
Little used (well cared-for) Epson Perfection 1670 scanner is recognised by Image Capture on OSX 10.6.4, allows itself to be remotely controlled in that it scans and all is well except as the scanner returns to the rest position the connection between scanner and Mac is broken, and Image Capture reports "no camera or scanner found".
I have NOT installed the ancient drivers which came with the scanner- rather I have now added Adobe ICC Profiles v1.3.1 and ICA Scanner Driver v5.3.0 for Image Capture and this too has not "fixed" it.
Randomly I was able to save my first and second attempt to scan and also around about the 6th. All successful scans are fine- image is there, no blank page as reported by others.
Anyone know of a solution? Please and thanks.

Replaced it, finally facing that this little used and very good scanner was just not "upgradable" to run on my OS.

If you are trying to install the updated Epson scanner driver when you get this message, it will be due to the installer not being digitally signed - which is odd if it is an updated driver. To get past this block, which is a function of Gatekeeper, hold down the Control button and click the installer. A pop-up window will appear. Select Open from the menu. You will now get the option to install the driver software.

  • Scanner (Epson Perfection 1670) doesn't *see* document on flatbed

My Epson 1670 just started exhibiting where it scans but doesn't see a document. I took it off the hub and connected directly but no difference. It doesn't appear to be the bulb as I can see light move along as it previews.
All I get is an all white image.
THis scanner has its own power cable. It just worked a few days ago. I'm not sure what I could of installed recently that would cause this.
    Any Ideas?
    Ed

I just purchased a MacBookPro 17" and moved my Epson 1670 optimistically to the new laptop.
I HAVE THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM (a blank/white document as the scanned image)! Epson has been less than useless (so far).
On the Epson website the following (similar, but not exact problem) FAQ is answered. I cannot understand what they mean. Does anyone have any understanding or, better yet, a solution to this problem.
    Epson FAQ:

    Q:
I just installed the Epson Scan software for Mac OS X 10.4.x, but it will not run. It just pops up in the Dock and then disappears. What should I do?
    A:
If you're using a Power PC or Intel-based Mac with OS X 10.4.x, your hard drive may be partitioned for Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive/Journaled) or Unix File System. These formats are not supported. You will need to use Mac OS Extended or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) when formatting the partition.

  • Using Epson Perfection 1670 scanner with Macbook

Can anyone point me to a work around for using my Epson Perfection 1670 scanner with my new Macbook? Drivers for the Mac OS do not appear to be available at the Epson website. Thanks much!

Thanks again for the help. I contacted Epson support and they directed me to download the same drivers that Apple Support had suggested. For some reason, the new drivers worked, even though I was really just retracing my steps and re-trying a previously attempted solution. The bottom line is, however, that I can scan photos successfully using the MacBook Pro and the Epson Perfection 1670.
    Thanks much!

  • I upgraded to 10.8.4 and now it won't let me use my Epson scanner, saying "power pc applications are no longer supported." How do I make it work?

I upgraded to 10.8.4 and now I can' use my Epson scanner  I get a message saying, "ou can't open the application Epson Scan apps because Power PC applications are no longer supported." I also can't synch my old Palm Pilot for the same reason.
    How can I fix this?

We need to sort out some facts here first:
    •  You cannot be running Mt. Lion on your iMac G5.  What Mac is it?  What is the Model Identifier listed in About This Mac; More Info; Hardware Overview
    •  What is the model of your Epson Scanner?
    •  Have you attempted to scan using Image Capture, located in your Applications folder?
    •  Your Palm Pilot software will only run in Snow Leopard; so depending upon which Mac you have, you will either have to:
    1)  partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it to "dual-boot" when you want to access you Palm software, or
    2)  install Snow Leopard Server (now available from Apple for $20 telephone orders USA & Canda only) into Parallels 8 to run your Palm software in Mt. Lion:

I have upgraded to Mountain Lion and have found that some of my software no longer works, notably Image Browser and also the Epson Scanner Perfection 3490 software. Is there a 'patch' or way to allow me to use these programmes especially the scanner.

Apple discontinued support for PowerPC apps with Lion, I think, so you're out of luck there. No patch coming, unfortunately. Best to upgrade whatever old applications you have or, since it seems like you're using some relatively old software, scout around for replacements that give you the functionality you need.
Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Print & Scan and select your scanner from the list--if it's not there you'll need to add it (start with the little plus icon). Once you have it in the list you can click on the Open Scanner button and a pretty barebones scanner driver will load for you. But Image Capture (as mentioned previously), found in your Applications folder, will probably do the job as adequately, or better, than your old scanner software.
