Epson scanner driver download compatible to OS Tiger

I own a Power Mac G4 and an Epson Expression 1640XL scanner.
I recently upgraded the OS to Tiger and realized afterward that Epson website doesn't offer a download of a driver that is compatible to Tiger. It supports up to OS 10.3.
Does anybody have any suggestion as to what I should do next in order to make the scanner compatible to Tiger?
FYI, I called Epson support but the recorded voice warned me that there will be a charge of a little over $9.00 to speak to a tech support so I decided to go this route.

Kappy,
Thanks for a prompt response.
So I suppose it is safe to download TWAIN Driver and Epson Scan Utility v2.64A from their site even though it mentions that it is for OS X (v10.2.x - 10.3.x) and nothing above it.
Let me try that and I'll get back to you.
Thanks again!

  • EPSON Scanner driver 3.03 (June 2007 release) for 4870

This is just a quick FYI for anyone unfortunate enough to have to reinstall there epson scanner drivers. Recently my epson 4870 scanner stopped working with my computer, tried all the usual stuff, permissions, restarting, unplugging other stuff etc. to no avail. So I phoned epson support.
They asked me to delete several epson related files in various folders - some files that I was asked to delete could not be found in the folders they asked me to look in. I pointed out that the driver software had an uninstall option, they said this wouldn't remove all the files.
We emptied the trash, installed the new 3.03 software and restarted, plugging things back in, repairing permissions etc. It still didn't work, I pointed out that 'epson scanner monitor' was no longer in the applications folder - I was told this wasn't required.
Curiously, in the apple system profiler under firewire the scanner seems to be shown as the letter 'G' manufacturer as just 'E' which I thought was strange. If I plug in using a USB cable it will display correctly under the USB list.
To cut a long story short, we spent over an hour going over and over this process, changing firewire cables, trying different ports, redownloading software and in the end I was told to contact apple as it had to be a problem with my machine (and also as it wasn't a PC he couldn't help any further).
I managed to dig out the original installer disk (epson scan, vers 2.0) that came with the machine several years ago, deleted previous files and reinstalled from that. It worked straight away, although I'm anticipating a few problems as this is so out of date.
I wondered if anyone has had similar problems and had managed to find a better solution.

I had a similar experience with the immediately previous version of EpsonScan, so I downloaded and installed 3.0.3 and things got worse. I then unplugged the scanner, uninstalled and reinstalled 3.0.3, thus far it is working. I hope it is not as buggy as 3.0.2

  • Epson Scanner Driver

First- I apologize if this is in the wrong place.
Second- I have also been trying to contact Epson about this, but they are being completely unresponsive.
I have recently upgraded to Leopard and, hence, my Epson Perfection 1250 driver is not compatible. I went to Epson's website and downloaded the Twain Driver and Epson Scan Utility v2.77A.
The problem is when I run the installer for the driver, it hangs up with "48 Items Remaining" and, after thinking for a bit, comes up as Not Responding.
I have tried a reboot, cold boot, even detached the computer from power, in order to give the driver a clean environment to install, but nothing seems to work. It still continues to hang.
Has anyone else had this problem and, if so, how did you go about resolving it?
Thank you in advance for any help!
    Jeff

    Had to upgrade to CS3.

  • I need to redownload an Epson Scanner driver

I have an Epson 1240U Photo scanner that was working awesome.  That is until I updated the software from the app store.  After doing that I lost my scanner in the printers and scanners preferences.
I am wanting to redownload the software, but Apple tells me that I have downloaded it already.    Is there any way I can redownload this file and reinstall it?  Or else roll back the driver to the previous version?

The latest update may not support the Epson 1240U Photo Scanner software but there is an alternative.
You can use the pre installed Image Capture app (in your Applications folder) for scanning >  Mac Basics: Using a scanner

  • Which application will open Epson driver download (.sea.hqx file format)?

I am transitioning from my PowerMac G4 (running OS X 3.9) to a new (to me) Powerbook running Tiger (10.4.8). I have been downloading the drivers for my scanners and printer. The .dmg files opened fine, automatically finding the appropriate application for opening the file. But my Epson scanner driver arrived with a .sea.hqx file format (one which I have been able to open with no problem previously on my PowerMac in Panther). When I click on the file on the desktop, I get a message that says, "There is no default application specified to open the document "epson11019.sea.hqx" Then it gives me the 'choose application' button, but when I click on it, I see nothing I recognize for this purpose. How do I get this task done?

    Hello Matt,
Thanks for your time & energy in helping me to solve this problem. A progress report follows:
Just to follow up. It looks like it may be easier to
live with the shortcomings of Expander 11 than try to
downgrade. The procedure I had to use to downgrade
was to remove the Stuffit Expander 11 folder from the
    /Applications folder.
I had already done this, and now have version 10.01 installed.
I'm not sure if Expander 11
installs other files or whether I had files left over
from Expander 10, but I also removed Stuffit related
    files from /Library/CFMSupport and
    /Library/Frameworks.
I couldn't fine either of these files in my Library.
    I downloaded Stuffit Expander
10 directly from the ftp site.
    ftp://ftp.stuffit.com/pub/archive/mac/Stuffit_Expander
    /stuffitexp_1000_xinstall.dmg It should be noted
that this version is PPC only so it would have to run
    under Rosetta on Intel Macs.
Finally, I had to use a cache cleaner before Stuffit
Expander 10 would work properly and not assign either
Script Editor or Automator as the application to open
.sea files. I used Applejack from the single user
mode. There are other, more user friendly cache
    cleaners available.
This user is hardly a techie, so in all cases, I need the most user friendly, reliable application or utility that I am least likely to get myself into further trouble with. So I'd be happy to hear your thoughts on this matter.
I also take it that there really isn't an alternative to Stuffit Expander for opening these files. Too bad! I see on their website that I am not the only one having problems!
So for the moment, I am still up a creek without a paddle. Any further suggestions are appreciated!

  • HT1338 I'm having difficulty getting my scanner to communicate with my new Photoshop CSX trial software. I can purchase the software as soon as i know the scanner works and i can work as normal! i'm looking for a way to download the scanner driver to solv

Would any of you know by any chance how to find the download for a Mac OS X scanner driver? my Canon LIDE 600F scanner normally works fine - and i've checked and in principle it should be compatible with the latest Photoshop CS6 trial i've successfully downloaded. i've checked the Apple software update and that's fine too. it's just that when i open my photoshop CS6 and go to File - import - scanner, the scanner is 'missing' - and then when i try every which way, an error flag comes up, stating there's an internal error and cites the scanner driver. it looks as though i need a scanner driver download for Mac OS X 10.6. i've googled this and can't find it .... has anyone else encountered this hitch since downloading the latest Photoshop? previously i had Photoshop CS3 - it's the CS6 version now that i'm trying to work with. You know how it is, deadline approaching and trying not to OD on coffee

If you are trying to install the updated Epson scanner driver when you get this message, it will be due to the installer not being digitally signed - which is odd if it is an updated driver. To get past this block, which is a function of Gatekeeper, hold down the Control button and click the installer. A pop-up window will appear. Select Open from the menu. You will now get the option to install the driver software.

  • HT4628 My Epson Artisan 725 prints just fine but, when I tried to scan it seems not to be connected. I downloaded the scanner driver but I don't see it. And I can't find where to verify settings.

I'm having trouble scanning with my Epson all in one. I downloaded the scanner driver and tried a couple of things through epson support. I can't seem to find the driver on my Mac anywhere. I tried to download it again but still can't locate it. My printer is an Epson Artisan 725. The driver for the printer looks to be a 720.

I have same issue - have you solved this yet?

  • Cannot install scanner driver for Epson 1650 Perfection

This isn't making sense to me. I was running Snow Leopard on another drive and was using my Epson Perfection 1650 scanner just fine. I bought a 2TB drive and installed Snow Leopard and am booting from that now and my scanner isn't recognized. If I try to open the Epson Scan utility, it just quits before it fully opens. I downloaded the scanner driver from Epson's website again and when I try to install it, the installer quits before it is fully open.
I did a Repair Permissions but that didn't help.
I tried manually copying the Epson Scanner Module folder from my Library on the other drive to the Library on this new drive and that didn't help.
I found a webpage on Apple's site listing scanners that are compatible with Snow Leopard and mine is listed. It claims most drivers are installed with the system. If so, how come my scanner isn't working now? But it did work in Snow Leopard on my other drive. I can boot from the other drive and use the scanner now, but I want to be able to use it from this drive.

I have been able to use OmniPage X in Snow Leopard with only one problem. I think it is because I did not try to instal it. It came across with my auto transfer from earlier software/hard drives. It reads documents but does not scan because I haven't transferred over my old twain files. I understand that the OmniPage twain file may not work in Snow Leopard but there is a freeware twain driver which I haven't tried.
So if you are having problems installing OmniPage on your Intel Mac, try copying over the app, (OS9 style) from an older Mac which has an old OSX system on which OmniPage X successfully installed.
I use VueScan to scan pages from my scanner, save the multiple pages as a pdf, open OmniPage and get it to import the pdf file. Then I do steps 2, 3 and 4 manually (though you could do all steps automatically). The result is much better and incredibly accurate text - much better than in the olden days when I could scan directly into OmniPage. The only things occasionally misread are numbers, particularly fractions.
I am scanning two pages at a time and the VueScan OCR, though it otherwise does a quite accurate job, tends to blend the two pages together, so it is not useful for me. It would be far too slow to scan in each page separately.
It's a shame that Caere sold OmniPage to Scansoft. I remember getting regular messages about improved accuracy upgrades and I'd always buy them. Caere cared. Scansoft does not, even though OmniPage still is the best OCR software for the Mac.
If Scansoft is not interested in upgrading OmniPage for the Mac, maybe it should stop hogging it and sell it to someone who would be interested in looking after its users.

  • Unable to install twain driver for Epson scanner -- Leopard

I finally got the printer driver working for my Epson CX6600.
Downloaded the correct driver from the Epson website and all is fine.
But now my scanner won't work.
    The CX6600 is an all-in-one.
The Twain Scanner Driver was paired up in the same download.
However, after downloading the installer file I was unable to install it.
The cursor just spins and spins -- and I then get a repeated warning window asking if I want to open this software downloaded from the Internet.
I have to do a Force Quit to get out of the installer app.
    Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Danty

where you able to resolve this problem? I also have this problem. Can scan manually.

  • Epson Expression 1600XL Scanner driver for Windows 8.1

I have an older Epson Expression 1600XL A3 size scanner. There's no driver for Windows 8 and 8.1 Pro. When I turn the scanner on (on USB), Windows tells me that it is an unknown device. I tried to let the scanner software run in various compability
modes and with administrator rights, but that does not Work. It tells me that "Epson scan cannot start" - probably because the content of the twain32 folder is wrong.
I was advised by Epson to get a an Epson Scan Driver package for another scanner that does comply with Windows 8.1.
The software Works, but it cannot find MY scanner on USB, - it looks only for the scanner the software is made for.
I was then advised to go here and find help for making the Scanner software recognise the scanner.
    Any suggestions?

  • Is there an Epson RX530 print/scanner driver available for Maverick?

    Hi
I have an Epson Stylus PHOTO RX530 that worked quite happily under the previous version of Mac OSX until Mavericks came along.
I've searched the Epson site that refers the solution may be found on the Apple Support site. No joy.
I can't be alone. Has anyone out there found a driver that works?

  • ICA Scanner Driver gives poor quality scans Epson Perfection 1660 Photo

The controls on the ICA Scanner Driver for the Epson Perfection 1660 Photo scanner are very crude, and it's difficult if not impossible to get the quality I used to get with the previous Epson Scan driver.  Where there used to be Levels, Curves, and Zoom controls, now there are only crude Brightness and Contrast sliders.  Is there any way I can get more control over levels and curves, and zoom in on an image to fine tune the cropping, like I used to do with Epson Scan?  Or will I have to  buy a current model scanner?  The Epson Scan program for the Perfection 1660 scanner is no longer compatible with Mac OS X 10.7.

I bought Vuescan 12 years ago, got the professional version. I have used it on Mac's and a PC or two. I have been through a dozen or more scanners over the years, upgraded OS's a hefty number of times as well.  And it still works like a champ.
Best $40 I ever spent.  (what it cost back then for Pro...)
You can go to his site, and try Vuescan for free before you buy.  Not a big software company, just a guy who loves scanners, and his son.  And he's been offering the software a long, long time, and updates the product constantly.
