Epson Scanner Utility

I have just bought a Mac Mini.  I have connected my Epson multi function printer and it printed without any software downloads.  I have just tried to use the scanner and there is no utility to allow me to set it up for the image resolution I need.  I have just downloaded the software from the Epson but Apple won't let me install it because they say it is not safe.  I need to use my scanner.  What do I do?  Surely Epson software is safe.
Thanks

What resolutions are available when yo use the built-in Image Capture app?
What resolution do you want?
Does Epson have Mac scanning software?
The VueScan software may work. You can test it by downloading the free version that leaves a watermark on the scans

  • Image Capture for Epson Scanner producing very dark results

I recently upgraded to a new iMac running Mountain Lion. I have a new Epson Perfection v750 Pro scanner, which I use to scan film negatives. I had previously been working with this scanner on a Windows 7 PC. Using Image Capture, I am getting wildly different results -- the resulting scan is completely dark. Is there a setting that I am missing somewhere?
I've attached a little preview picture that shows the difference between a scan of the same image, with my PC vs my Mac.

There is no Epson scanner utility for Mountain Lion, it appears. Even Epson's FAQ defers to Image Capture and says it only provides software for image modification.
    http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&info Type=FAQ&oid=207953&foid=214278&cat=214269&subcat=214264
Unfortunately Image Capture completely fails to provide the service it should be expected to. The 3rd party software VueScan seems like it would be adequate once I learned how to manipulate it a little more, but ultimately the only decision I can justify is to hook up the scanner to my Windows PC and use the TWAIN-based scan utility there.
If there's anywhere I can make an official plea to Apple to get Image Capture in a workable state, feel free to point the way.

  • Epson scanner not work with Mountain Lion?

I have an Epson Expressio 1600Pro scanner with transparency adaptor. It has worked perfectly with previous Macs using OSX 10.4. I have recently bought a MacBook pro and upgraded it to OSX 10.8. I went to Epson's website to get a new driver etc. That tells you it can only be downloaded via Mac Software Update. That was duly done and installed. System prefs lists it under printer and scanners. OK
I have also installed Photoshop Elements 11 and expected to be able to scan direct to there but nothing seems possible. Going to Help says use Image capture or Preview. Yes! there is a small very rudimentary scanning window appears in both apps. Now the problem! Nothing happens. I have tried ALL the various meagre settings on offer, changing size, resolution, custom etc and all that happens is a small rectangle of a scan occurs but no resulting file.
I have been on to Epson who say ONLY image capture will work with 10.8 but as it is a 3rd party software they can offer no assistance. Well image capture does NOT work. I have spent all afternoon trying various things like restarting, unplugging, reconnecting etc etc nothing.
10.8 does seem very buggy. I have even had to stop using Mail and Safari simply because it doesn't work whereas Thunderbird and Firefox work very well.
But I digress, does anyone have any thoughts please?

The following comments are based on installing an Epson RX700 All-in-one printer/copier/scanner so they may not be applicable to you but, for what it's worth here they are. The RX700 scanner worked perfectly with Snow Leopard and then Lion but, when I changed to Mountain Lion, and used the app store to download and install the drivers, I lost the Epson scanner utility (ie. the user interface that gives you all the scanner options).
However, if I used System Preferences and then the Print and Scan option, it brought up a small window where I could select either Print or Scan. Selecting Scan or Open Scanner from this window then opens up a window with all the scanner options in it, including an overview scan. This window has the option to either Hide Details (all the detailed scanner options - resolution, size, output file name etc) or Show them. As far as I can see, this window is actually the Image Capture app, although it doesn't say so.
It might be a long shot but try changing the Auto Selection box in this window to one of the other options (eg. "Detect Separate Items") or setting the "Scan to" to a file.

  • Epson Scanner Selection Problem in Acrobat 9

With the most recent update of Acrobat 8 as well as with Acrobat 9, when I try to create a pdf using my scanner, Acrobat does not recognize my Epson Perfection 3200 Photo scanner. I have the most recent version of the twain driver and Epson Scan utility (with works on my MacPro). Any suggestions of how to correct the problem?

John said he was using the very latest Driver for his MacPro. Although the software work around might work for him.

  • Epson scanner driver download compatible to OS Tiger

I own a Power Mac G4 and an Epson Expression 1640XL scanner.
I recently upgraded the OS to Tiger and realized afterward that Epson website doesn't offer a download of a driver that is compatible to Tiger. It supports up to OS 10.3.
Does anybody have any suggestion as to what I should do next in order to make the scanner compatible to Tiger?
FYI, I called Epson support but the recorded voice warned me that there will be a charge of a little over $9.00 to speak to a tech support so I decided to go this route.

    Kappy,
    Thanks for a prompt response.
So I suppose it is safe to download TWAIN Driver and Epson Scan Utility v2.64A from their site even though it mentions that it is for OS X (v10.2.x - 10.3.x) and nothing above it.
Let me try that and I'll get back to you.
    Thanks again!

  • Epson scanner perfection 1200 photo not working since ML

    hi,
my epson scanner perfection 1200 photo worked fine on snow leopard. since my upgrade to mountain lion (no lion in between), i cannot use it any more - although it is still in the list of supported models.
now i am on 10.8.2. i have downloaded the latest SW update with the scanner connected and switched on.
i can assign, unassign and reassign it in utilities. i can change settings (i cannot change the selection for scanning, though). but as soon as i do an overview scan, it will abort. same behaviour when trying to scan.
this happens identically when working in image capture or direct from print scan utility.
i have tried to remove the epson scan plist and the image capture plist from user preferences. no effect.
some time ago already, i got in touch with epson service. they sent an outdated installer and provided information different from their website. :-(
    questions:
    - did anyone get this scanner to work with ML?
    - any ideas what to do?
    thank you!

    Hi All !
I installed the new drivers for my Epson Perfection V700 Photo. And it is working as supposed to !
Go on the Epson web site and download the drivers. Follow the simple instructions and be ready to drive your scanner as before !

  • Epson scanner software update

Can't find an update for my Epson Perfection 4490 Photo scanner.  Doesn't pop up automatically and search finds nothing  Epson website says go to Apple for update!

This is what epson's web site says about my scanner:
"Scanner Driver and EPSON Scan Utility - Coming Soon
    10/16/13 More Info
    Description:
An OS X 10.9 compatible Scanner Driver and EPSON Scan Utility for this model is not yet available but is coming soon. Please check back for availability."
I have contacted them via phone and email and no one can define soon (now it is 10 days since they originally said "soon")
Image Capture is ok but I need to do double sided scanning etc.
(I have never before upgraded an operating system this quickly--but Epson should at least let us know when we can expect to use their products again>
They said they will get the HealthCare.gov people working on it.

  • Can't use my epson scanner

    Hi all,
Sorry if this isn't the right forum...
I've installed the Mac driver for my Epson 2400 photo... when I start Image Capture the scanner starts straight away, but no other apps can find it (e.g. Acrobat, Photoshop)... they should be able to as it's a TWAIN device.
Has anyone got any suggestions...as a new Mac user I have no idea where to start troubleshooting this?
    Thanks
    Nige

nigelj and others having issues with the drivers for the Epson GT-2500
I decided to configure the scanner to work both inside the CS3 apps and outside as a stand alone.
I was successful. The prior issue I had - where the Espon Scan Utility would not start on its own as a stand alone interface - was caused by my having installed the more recent drivers 2.95A over those that came on the Epson installation CD.
I was able to correct the problem by doing the following:
    1. Turn off and unplug the USB cable from the Epson scanner (either should work I did both just to be safe).
    2. Insert the original Epson installation CD and follow the prompts until you get to the Easy Install prompt.
    3. Select uninstall. This will remove the previous install(s) of the scanner software.
    4. Re-boot the machine or shout it down and re-start. (I did this as a precaution).
    5. Download the 2.95A driver from Epson (link is in my previous post above).
    6. Open the installer file. It will open a folder on your desktop.
    7. Double click the Setup file. It runs automatically.
    8. If you check your Applications folder you should find an Epson Scanner Monitor app. It will disappear once you plug in and turn on your scanner.
    9. Plug in and turn on the scanner. (You can check the Epson utility in the Applications/Utilities Folder to see if the scanner is Ready)
    10. Test the Epson Scan Interface (icon of a scanner) in the Applications folder. It should open with 2.95A on the splash screen that appears when it starts. Close it and then open Acrobat Professional. The GT-2500 should already be selected and ready to go.
Incidentally, I have OS X 10.5.2 (I believe the most current version of Leopard) and this is my only scanner on this machine.
    I hope this helps!

  • Using Epson scanner 2450 with CS3

    Hello,
Has anyone been able to get their Epson scanner to open in Photo Shop CS3?
I can open the scanner only from the Epson Scan utility. And that only after a struggle, and help from this community.
CS3 on my desktop (Dual G4 MDD) will allow me to open the scanner directly in the File/Import menu of Photoshop with Twain.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you

    Wallah
A bit more research shows that CS3 runs in 32 bit mode.  The problem I had was with CS5.
You could try asking in the Adobe Photoshop Community or in fredmiranda where there are many Photoshop gurus. (both require userids which are free).

  • Why won't my epson scanner work with Mountian Lion?

Since I loaded Mountain Lion, my Epson perfection 4490 Photo scanner won't load. It keeps saying "can't open application cuz PowerPC applications are no longer supported." I downloaded a new driver from Epson and did a software update and restarted my computer but it still won't connect to the scanner. What am I missing? Should I uninstall my epson scanner and then reinstall? Help!

Part 1 - the driver.  If you already had an Epson driver & software installed before you upgraded to Mt. Lion, then yes you should uninstall the Epson software. Epson provides a utility to do this on their support website. After uninstalling the old driver & software, follow the Epson instructions for installing their ICA Scanner Driver, which basically involves connecting your 4490 to your Mac and then running Software Update.  This driver needs to be installed for almost any scanning app to work with your 4490 on Mt. Lion, including Image Capture and Vuescan
Part 2 - the scanner software.  Epson discontinued the Epson Scan Utility when Lion was introduced.  It is only supported on versions of OS X up to Snow Leopard.  If you want the functionality of Epson Scan on Lion or Mt. Lion then you need to get Vuescan, SilverFast or similar scanner software.  I highly recommend Vuescan ... have used it for many years on almost every version of OS X and a bunch of different scanners including my own Epson Perfection 4490.

  • Epson scanner

Ever since I installed the Maverick, my Epson scanner is not recognized. Any suggestions?

    Try this:
Do a factory reset on the scanner.
uninstall any Epson applications or utilities.
go to system preferences > printers&scanners > scanners, select your scanner in the box on the left, control click on it, select "reset printing system", and "reset" in the dialog that follows
if you connect to the scanner with wifi, reset your wifi too:
power down everything, modem, router, computer, and scanner
power them back up, in the same order (modem, router, computer, scanner); let each power up fully before going on to the next
go back to printers&scanners > scanners, and let it download a driver from Apple.
use Image Capture instead of the Epson utility to run your scanner.

  • I installed OS X Mavericks and now my Epson Scanner Perfection Series V330 Photo refuses to open. Is there a new driver available? I am scanning my work for a book publication and I need my scanner urgently. I tried Image capture but scanner is not detect

I installed OS X Mavericks and now my Epson Scanner Perfection Series V330 Photo refuses to open. Is there a new driver available? I am scanning my work for a book publication and I need my scanner urgently. I tried Image capture but scanner is not detected.

Looks like all Epson scanners will fail under Mvrx. And who knows when an updated driver will be available. It's not as if they have had a while to do it already.
After I noticed mine wouldn't work, I deleted my Workforce 610 and re-added it by pressing the + and instead of going for the IP versions that may pop up, that they say to do under normal conditions, select the Bonjour version. When you select the new printer/scanner in the Printers & Scanners Control Panel, then open the control window and then look in the dock and see if your printer is there. Right click on it and go to "Keep in Dock" for easy Access. In the printer panel there should be a little picture of a scanner on the right side. Click on it or type Commmand-3 and the built-in scanner software/utility will come up. After playing with it I think it's better than and there are some cool features that are not in the stock Epson software.
    Hope this helps.

  • Epson scan utility buttons disabled

I have tried to setup my Epson SX600 scanner using the epson scan utility, as recommended in other blogs. The problem I have is that I cannot refresh list of devices over my wireless network or even 'add' a scanner as all the buttons in the scanner utility are disabled / greyed out. Therefore I'm unable to actually do anything. The problem seems to be with the scan utility app or drivers. I have tried uninstalling & re-installing the scanner s/w as per Epsons instructions but without success. Any tips that could help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can't find printer in epson printer utility

just set up new epson sylus photo r220. works great but can't check ink levels because when i open epson printer utility no printers show up. if i try opening the printer fron the "print & fax" box in system preferences and click on "supply levels" i get a "information not available" box.
    any ideas?

Syd, you only need the GIMP Print driver if your printer doesn't have a driver for Tiger that is available from your printer's manufacturer. If reinstalling the printer's driver from the Cd that came with your Epson doesn't work, then you'll probably have to reinstall the system this time deselecting the GIMP Print driver as an optional install. Then install the Epson driver according to the instructions that came with your printer if the driver isn't already installed by Tiger.
