Epson shared printers- can't control print quality

Hi someone,
We have an espon stylus photo 1280, and an epson stylus photo R200.
Both are connected to one Intel iMac via USB.
We have 2 other Macs - one iMac G5, and Mac mini G5 which are sharing these printers. All have the latest Tiger OS 10.4.6.
They print fine, but the problem we're having is that the 2 computers which are using the printers via the network do not have access to Epson's special utilities when in the print dialogue screen - ie: they cannot change the print quality, paper stock, black vs colour etc. when just about to print.
The only one that does have access to Epson's controls is the one which is connected via USB.
We also can not see the printers from the other 2 macs in the Printer Browser when searching for them using appletalk, or epson appletalk etc....only in the Default Browser as "Shared Printers"
Does this have something to do with it?
How can we get the 2 Macs which are using the printers as "shared printers" access to the epson print options?
thanks!
Intel iMac, iMac g5, Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Are your printers "networked" as in using ethernet, or are they simply shared, using the OSX shared printers feature? I think it makes a difference.
I had a similar problem. My printer, an Epson 1280 is connected to mu iMac G4 via USB, and is shared by my MacBook Pro. I was unable to access the Epson print utility features that allow setting quality, borderless prints, etc. I contacted Epson and they sent me the following fix. it took care of the problem. I can change the settings from either the primary iMac or from the shared printer on the Laptop.
To correct the issue you are experiencing, we will perform a complete
removal of the files and reinstall the driver.
REMOVE FILES
1. Double click on the MAC HARD DRIVE
2. Double click on the LIBRARY folder
3. Double click on the PRINTERS folder
4. Drag the EPSON folder to the trash can
NOTE If you receive an access denied error message, this indicates that
you do not have root access. You will need to contact Apple for assistance
on obtaining Root Access.
1. Insert your 10.4 CD/DVD, double click on the CD/DVD icon on your
desktop.
2. Double click SYSTEM > INSTALLATION > PACKAGES > EPSON PRINTER
DRIVERS.PKG
Follow the prompts for the installation, restart your Mac when complete
Please follow the steps below to install the resident driver for your
printer in OS 10.4:
1. Make sure that your printer is turned on and connected to your computer.
2. Open your PRINTER SETUP UTILITY. This is found in HARD DRIVE,
APPLICATIONS, UTILITIES directory
3. If there are any entries for your printer click on them and hit the
DELETE. Once they are all gone Click ADD, then MORE PRINTERS at the bottom
of the printer browser.
4. In the window that appears, select EPSON USB from the drop-down menu at
the top, then highlight your printer when it appears under NAME , under
PAGE SETUP select ALL, and then hit ADD.
5. Quit out of the printer setup utility and try printing from any OS X
application.
To set up your printer for borderless printing in OS X please follow the
steps below.
After you have installed your printer driver for OS 10, you will need to do
the following to add extra paper features such as borderless printing
options:
1. Go to Printer Setup Utility (found in HD > Applications > Utilities).
Delete any existing references to the Epson printer from the list.
2. Go to Add. Select Epson USB for a USB printer or Epson Firewire for a
Firewire-connected printer.
3. Highlight the printer name when it appears under Product. Under "Page
setup" use the up-down arrows and select ALL.
4. Click Add. The new printer options will now be added to the Printer
list; you will see the printer name numerous times with different paper
selections attached. (If you are unable to see the full description you
will need to extend the name category.)
5. Highlight the printer name/feature which you wish to use (For example,
"Stylus Photo 2200 (Sheet feeder-Borderless)") and make it the default.
Close Printer Setup Utility.
6. Ensure Classic is not running. Open an OS X application and the file you
wish to print.
Setting up borderless prints in an OS X application (NOTE: not all
applications will show these options)
1. Click on FILE and PAGE SETUP. Ensure the settings below are adjusted:
SETTINGS: PAGE ATTRIBUTES
FORMAT FOR: EPSON STYLUS XXX XXX(BORDERLESS)
PAPER SIZE: Whichever compatible paper size you wish to use
(NOTE: borderless printing is not supported on custom paper sizes.)
Click OK when done.
2. Click on FILE and PRINT. Ensure the settings below are adjusted:
PRINTER: Stylus XXX XXX(BORDERLESS)
PRESETS: STANDARD
Make any other adjustments needed (on COPIES and PAGES, PRINT SETTINGS,
etc) and then click PRINT.
Good Luck!

  • Controlling print quality from the touchscreen on the MG6320

Hello, I have a two-part question. I'm interested in controlling print quality from the touchscreen display.
    1. Can I set print quality (i.e. - choose draft/fast mode) from the touchscreen display?
2, if I can and do set it there, will my selection apply to all future print jobs until I change the setting again, or will it just apply to the one print job in the queue at the time, etc?
I hope my questions are clear. Many thanks for your help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Ralp51,
The print quality of documents printed from your computer is controlled be the printer driver on the computer.  The quality cannot be adjusted from the PIXMA MG6320 itself.

  • EPSON Stylus Color 1160 changing default print quality under 10.4

    Greetings.
I have the above printer and since Epson no longer produces a driver that will function under 10.4 I am using the Gimp driver. Which works fine.
The printer is connected to our server and so functions as a ‘shared printer’ in the network. The server runs 10.4.8.
However I would like to tweak the default settings for all users.
One of the things we use this printer for is to make drafts for checking text or layouts. The default setting is for an excellent print quality. I would like to change this to a lower resolution (saves ink > saves money > saves planet > reduces carbon footprint, ;-)))
Anybody knows how to do this?
    Thanks

    Greg good morning,
It did solve it partly. Here is what I have now. If printing directly from the computer the printer is connected from now is no problem, the settings have changed.
However as this is my server (the Epson is connected to it via USB) printing from the other machines have not changed the standard dialog box.
When I try access the Epson setup via http://127.0.0.1:631/printers on the individual computers I get:
Forbidden. You don't have permission to access the resource on this server. <</div>
Any suggestions as to how to solve this so I have there also the standard box changed? Reason is of course that on the individual computers the dialog is generated locally and their settings are following the standard rule than send to the printer, bypassing the setting of the printer. So question is, how to get in to this dialogue?

  • Network shared printers stop working; default printer changes

    Hello,
Have an odd printing issue that seems to be ongoing and am trying to come up with a good solution or fix for it.
We have an environment that has a Windows 2012R2 Print Server, that is sharing various printers which are also set to List in Directory.  Some of the printers are HP and are using the HP Universal driver which shows as "True" for Packaged in
the print management window, and some of the printers are Canon which are using device specific drivers and show as "False" for Packaged.  My understanding is that the packaged attribute simply indicates that Point and Print can then download
the driver and install/use it without any security prompts whereas if it is not Packaged, then the driver must be installed on the local server/workstation by an Administrator.  We have Group Policy defined such that all Point and Print restrictions are
    Disabled.
We then have multiple Remote Desktop Session Hosts based on Server 2008R2 (x64).  Users connect to these hosts via thin clients (Wyse) and there is a domain login script using KiXtart that creates printer connections to the shared printers using an address
of \\printserver\printername.  We also set the default printer via the login script each time depending on user's group membership.
Each part of this setup is on it's own routed VLAN subnet, so the Print Server is on 192.168.0.x/24, RDSHs are on 192.168.1.x/24 and the printers themselves are on 192.168.2.x/24.  There is no firewall or other restrictions between the subnets, all traffic
    is allowed to flow.
The issue we are having is two parts, the first is the larger issue, but both are a pain:
    1) Randomly (no discernible pattern/reason/timeframe), some Canon printers will stop appearing in Print dialog boxes from applications when a user tries to print.  It only seems to happen on the Canon printers.  The printer will still show in Control
Panel -> Devices and Printers, but when you right click it and try to go to Printer Properties or view any of the printer settings, you'll get an error saying the printer is not accessible/valid.  I have also tried a WMI query for "select * from
win32_printer" and the printer will not be returned.  To temporarily fix it, we right click the printer, and choose to remove it and then go through the wizard to re-add the same printer from the directory again.  That will correct it and the
user can print again, view all properties, etc.  This doesn't happen to every user but happens sporadically and once it happens to a user it seems to pop up once every week or two.
Now, we have made a change and installed the Canon printers in question locally on the Remote Desktop Session Hosts themselves using TCP/IP ports so that each user logging into the session host will see all of the printers.  This also seems to have resolved
this issue.  So it leads me to think there is some sort of timeout or connection getting dropped, but for no real apparent reason.  This is all on a virtualized platform and so the Print Server and Session Hosts have very reliable LAN connections
amongst themselves.  And further, we never see the issue with the HP printers, they seem to maintain their stability at all times.
    2) The other issue we are seeing is that from time to time the default printer setting changes or vanishes altogether.  It doesn't happen to every user but once it does happen it happens regularly (multiple times a day).  This happens even when using
the locally mapped TCP/IP printer or when using the network print server.  From what I have read and found, this generally seems to be a known issue regarding redirected client printers and some GP settings related thereto.  But we aren't redirecting
any local client printers, everything is network based/shared.
In digging into these two issues I have run across the following error we get regularly in the PrintService Event Viewer log:
The print spooler failed to import the printer driver that was downloaded from \\printserver\print$\x64\PCC\ntprint.inf_amd64_59246c3ac1bd3f2a.cab into the driver store for driver Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver. Error code= 800f024b.
This can occur if there is a problem with the driver or the digital signature of the driver.
And digging further into that seems to be that their was an error validating one of the DLL files as seen at the following thread:  http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/9fe186e4-52f7-4552-a223-b2320cfc9ed5/driver-install-semi-fails-with-800f024b?forum=winserverprint
We get the exact same error that is shown there UNISRV.DLL being flagged as invalid, and have applied the hotfix indicated in KB2701894.
I am not sure the above error is realted to the issues at hand, but figured it is a good starting point to eliminate it as a potential cause of the issue.
Any input or suggestions on what to do to diagnose or further resolve this would be greatly appreciated!

Alan, I'm getting this error 600 in my company. Is there any fix for this problem?
After installing KB2919355 on Windows 2012 R2, when I try to map a shared printer I receive the following error message: A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents you from connecting to this print queue. Please contact your system administrator.
If I uninstall the patch the shared printer maps correctly.
I also notice that if I copy the driver \\server\print$\x64\PCC\ntprint.inf_amd64_a7ac65d1b7714fb1.cab
from a Windows 2012 R2 before applying KB2919355 to the server that has the patch applyed (and rename it), I can map the printer.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for that?

  • Can't change print quality...please help!

In reference to the box that pops up when you choose to print something: in the drop down menu where you can select "paper handling", "layout", "scheduler" etc. there used to be something that allowed me to select the type of paper I was using as well as the print quality. But now it is not there and I am completely unable to alter the print quality!
All that's in the drop down menu is: Copies & Pages, Layout, Scheduler, Paper Handling, ColorSync, Cover Page, and Summary. I cannot change the print quality when I select any of these options from the drop down menu.
I've downloaded the drivers for my printer on the HP site already and it doesn't help. I don't understand what is going on as the option to change the print quality seemed to have just disappeared. It seems like it's more of a Mac problem than a problem with my printer...I'm not sure.
Please help!!! I'm completely stuck printing low res things and I NEED to print better quality than this!

Are you certain that your correct printer is selected in the Printer: list?
Since reinstalling the driver have you repaired permissions?
What programs are you attempting to print from?

  • HP 6980 Can't select print quality

After installing Pages 09 I find that when I select print for a document the only print quality that I can select is Standard. With Pages 06 I had a choice from Best to Fast Draft. Now I have only one choice. I reinstalled the printer software but that did not correct the problem. Any suggestions.

Thanks BD Aqua. I finally figured it out. With an open document select Print and then on the menu select "paper type/Quality" then "Quality". Mow you will see the various print options. Select each one and give it a name for the preset menu. EG. Name Fast Draft as Fast Draft and so on. Now when you hit print the drop down menu will have the preset identifiers that you selected.

  • Epson 610 Series - Can't find printer

Just purchased epson wireless printer (610 series) and cannot get iMac to find it. Using verizon wireless router...printer sees network, iMac sees network. Verizon was no help...maybe someone here can point me the right way...many thanks

Have you looked at the instructions in your Epson setup manual? Mine specifically stated that I would have to use a USB cable first and then follow certain steps; at some point, on screen instructions would tell me to unhook the cable for wireless connectivity.
And, have you entered the Epson's MAC address (on mine, it is under setup, etc., but you should also be able to find it on the box or other documentation - a series of numbers/letters something like this: 01-fc-23-df......) in your router's online interface so it'll recognize the printer?
And, have you gone to the Print & Fax pane in System Preferences and clicked on the + to add the Epson?
You can also call or email Epson support and they can guide you.

  • How can I control print quantities from the main browser?

    So here's the workflow question
I want to select photos to print but I want to print a different quantity depending on criteria. The photos may be in different albums, etc..
Selecting them all and trying to set the quantity in the Print Order window is painfully awkward.
What I really need to be able to do is browse my photos and assign a value to them where the value represents the number of prints that should be created for that photo.
For example, I can assign those colored lables quite easily by just pressing  CMD-1, CMD-2, CMD3, and so forth.
So lets suppose I navigate around my photo collection and I assign a color to particular photos where the number of the color represents the desired quantity.
It's very easy then to create a smart album that just shows the photos that have been tagged this way.
However, there is no way then to order prints in one go with the appropriate quantities (other than the manual mechanism in Print Order window) and if I order them as separate groups, I have to pay shipping costs multiple times.
I'm wondering if someone has created an automation script that can use the color (or some other textual tag) that can then be used to submit a print order with the quantities of each photo derived from that color or textual tag?
I hope this question makes sense, it feels awkward to describe.

If you have an iPhone, you can go to the app store and get Keynote Remote for free. The trick to make it work smoothly is to first establish your Macbook Air as wireless network. Then you use your iPhone to control the slideshow remotely, by swiping from slide to slide -- even from quite a distance.
Turn on your Macbook Air's airport (wi-fi), then select Create Network.
Once your Macbook Air is turned on as a network, open Keynote on your computer and your slideshow, but don't start the "view slideshow" mode just yet.
Open up Keynote Remote and if it doesn't connect automatically to your Macbook Air then select the network in Options.
Then start your slideshow from your iPhone -- you will notice each slide appearing on your iPhone as a reference.
If you still have difficulties linking, go into the Keynote preferences menu on your computer and make adjustments in the tab Remote. (And don't be fooled by the Bluetooth option -- strangely at this point it doesn't work between the iPhone and the Macbook -- only wireless.)
*Extra: You can enable "speaker notes" to show up on your iPhone below the picture of the slide.

  • How can I control printing highlighted part of a page?

I have a problem with a new computer on which I can not print highlighted part of a page. When I try the highlighted part is not printed. If I use my old computer the highlighted part is printed as expected. I have compared the settings for both the printer and Firefox on both computers, but do not see any difference. Both runs Win7, runs on the same network and use the same printer. Only difference I can think of is that the new is a 64 bit computer. Any ideas of how I can solve my problem?

    Hi 16tons,
The issue you are referring to might be a known bug. You should look at CWW's post in this thread:

  • Can't control print resolution in Tiger

I set up a G5 PPC iMac for a friend. He has a Xante Screenwriter 3, at the moment connected with an AppleTalk/Ethernet bridge. I downloaded the newest driver available from Xante. The printer works perfectly, except… The only program that will print at my specified LPI is Photoshop. Using Quark 4 in Classic and IllustratorCS in Tiger, my document prints at a much higher line screen than specified. The Screenwriter is even set at the control panel to my desired line screen, but that is somehow being bypassed. Any suggestions?

Resolution has to be set from the Tiger print dialog box. The setting in the application print window is always overridden by the one in Tiger.

  • Can we set Print Quality and Page 'Fit in to paper' thrue AS

    Hi All,
while taking Movieclip printout thru actionscipt, whatever text i used inside the Movieclip is get blurred. Moreover the print is not fit into the paper size (A4 size used).
Is there any setting available to change resolution while its get convert to bitmap and also is there any option to set "fit in to the paper size"
    Here i am using this...
    import flash.display.BitmapData;
    var newBitmap:BitmapData = new BitmapData(myMC._width, myMC._height);
    var tempMC:MovieClip = this;
    var printFC:PrintJob = new PrintJob();
    newBitmap.draw(myMC);
    tempMC.createEmptyMovieClip("printMC", 1);
    printMC.attachBitmap(newBitmap, 1);
    printFC.start();
    printFC.addPage(printMC, null, {printAsBitmap:true});
    printFC.send();

I found the solution form a website !!!
I missed out to mention the parameter while attaching bitmap.
    The correct code is...
    printMC.attachBitmap(newBitmap, 1, "auto", true);
    "auto" is for pixelSnapping
    true is for smoothing
    Thanks,

  • How can I change the print quality on a HP 6700 to draft (lowest quality) on a Mac OS X 10.9.3?

    Hi,
I've tried many places to try to find where I can change the print quality (HP 6700).  I don't want it to use so much ink, so want to put it at the lowest quality.  I tried using the settings icon and the arrows on the front of the printer, and other options listed here.  Nothing has worked.
    Thanks,

  • How to get back shared printers

I hope the answer is a simple one, but at the moment it is quite frustrating. Somewhere around OSX.2 I got fed up with the long list of shared printers showing up in my print center by people who didn't know how to set up their printers, so I disabled/turned off viewing of shared printers. Now however, after getting a new iMac G5 and migrating all my settings and user account, I am in a new environment and want/need to access shared printers. The problem is they are gone and I can't find a setting anywhere (print center has been replaced with the printer setup utility) that allows you to activate/turn on viewing of shared printers.
Does anyone know how I can do this in X.4?!? My print dialog should have Shared Printers listed in the Printer: drop down list and it doesn't!
    Please help. Thanks. Jason

It sounds like you edited the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf?
And then used migration assistant so it kept the
    configuration?
If so, I recommend you try going to that directory in
the Terminal, then rename your current cupsd.conf to
    cupsd.mybak, and rename cupsd.default to cupsd.conf.
Then restart CUPS to make it recognize the change
    (sudo killall -HUP cupsd).
Edit - you may need to restart the Mac - there are
other network pieces that need to restart in order to
    find shared printers.
    Is this what you needed?
Yep, this worked. Thanks for your help!

  • Powerbook won't see shared printers

    hi
i've got 2 imacs, a powermac and an airport express on a local ethernet network. my powerbook accesses the network via the airport.
The imacs have printers connected to them via usb. all the computers except for the powerbook see the shared printers. i believe at one point the powerbook did see the shared printers but now, it doesnt even show the shared printers option in the print/printer pull down menu.
spent a half hour on the phone with apple care while they consulted with higher ups only to tell me they don't support the HP photosmart 2610 printer so they couldnt help me. now i see on the apple site that the 2610 is a mac recommended model.....great....
    any thoughts?
    thanks,
    rob

    Let's get some information first:
Do the printers show up in the Print & Fax System
Preferences? If so, do they have checkmarks?
in the powerbook? no. they don't show up there. and printer browser doesnt see them
How is your network arranged? Are all of the
computers connected the same way (wired or
    wireless)?
all the other computers are wired. the powerbook is wireless though via airport which is plugged into the same router as the other computers.
Do you have the PowerBook's firewall turned on?
    powerbooks firewll is off.
    thanks for your attention,
