Epson SP RX680

I recently bought the Epson Stylus Photo RX680 printer and upon installing the software, leopard said it couldn't find the drivers when i went to add it. Considering the printer came with a sheet of paper saying it was Leopard ready i gave it the benefit of the doubt and downloaded the new drivers from the epson website. Even after installing these new drivers, which epson says should work with leopard, Leopard still can't seem to find the drivers for it. Scanner works fine its just the printer drivers.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times to no avail. If anybody knows a solution, please help.
thanks.

I read the original posting from a CompUSA store that I work at. I'm a retail marketing representative for Epson.
I purchased a new iMac three weeks ago, and opted for a Epson CX7400 printer in the rebate program. The printer worked great under OS X Tiger system.
This past Thursday I finally received the Leopard up-date program from Apple.
Shortly after installation I tried to print a document, only to find that the CX7400 would not print.
I removed the Epson software, re-installed it again. Received an error message stating that the "Print Queue" was not installed, and said to refer to documentation. WHAT DOCUMENTATION????
Next, I went to the Epson Web site, and downloaded the latest drivers. This has to be the answer....NOT!! I have removed and installed all of the above 3-4x with no results.
I'm going to follow the information on the You Tube video, and pray for a resolution.

  • Is it too much to ask that my scanner WORK?

OK, I have an Epson StylusPhoto RX680...older all-in-one, but one that both Epson and Apple insist has proper SL drivers written for it...
Yeah, sure. Not for my new iMac 3.06 it don't. Whether directly connected via USB, or networked through my MacPro 2.66 dual-core (also 10.6.5, and with printer and scanner sharing turned on), I CAN'T SCAN. Which means my wife can't scan...which means that instead of helping out with Christmas decs and getting ready for parties and such, I'm sitting here browsing support articles, downloading crap and getting more and more peeved (this is only one of dozens of issues I'm having with "the world's smartest operating system"...but I'll confine my rant to the problem this forum can address).
I've installed and re-installed the OS thrice (the last time after wiping the HD clean [btw, I'm installing from the iMac disc]); downloaded, installed, uninstalled, re-installed and re-uninstalled the Epson drivers; attempted to let the Apple OS find the scanner, tried the Epson Scan drivers/program, tried it directly connected to the iMac via USB, and now using it via Sharing. It will print, (and it will scan from the MacPro)...but it won't scan from the iMac, AND THAT'S WHERE IT HAS TO WORK.
the next idea I have is blowing everything away (again), and burning one of my retail SL installs on this computer...that's the only difference (software-wise) between the iMac that doesn't scan, and the MacPro that does.

Well, let's see if you've tried the following:
First check the following (your RX 680 is on the list!):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
    and click on Epson:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#epson
Then uninstall everything Epson (Epson will supply you with exact instructions).
After that, first try to see if the built-in drivers will work by a) making sure you have it connected via USB and b) going to System Preferences -> Print & Fax and adding the printer by clicking on the +.
If that works, hit the Scan button in the same window and see if they are talking to each other.
If that doesn't work, go to the Epson download site and download the latest driver package available (and your model does support 10.6!):
    http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid= 90584&prodoid=63069505&infoType=Downloads&platform=Macintosh
Having said all that, I've been an Epson customer for years, and I was told by their tech that the scanner function would NOT work wirelessly - in my case, it did not matter because the printer is within 2 feet of the iMac.
And, FWIW, I have the Epson Scan app installed, but have not used it since I figured out that the OS Scan feature (it's actually part of the Image Capture app) works a whole lot better.

  • Epson Stylus Photo RX680 with Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter 2 won't pair

This post describes my problem, but I couldn't reply since it has been archived:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7882399&#7882399
I am having the same issue with an Epson Stylus Photo RX680 and their Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter 2. I go to System Preferences -> Bluetooth -> Set Up New Device, click Continue, select Printer, and click Continue. At this point, the Bluetooth Setup Assistant sends me to the Print & Fax System Preferences window. I can add the printer under the Bluetooth heading. It finds the drivers and adds the printer to my printers list, but a test page (or anything else) won't print. The job is added to the queue, but it stops trying to print after a few seconds. If I go to the Bluetooth System Preferences, I can see the printer listed (for a while), and I notice that it is connected but not paired.
If I run the Bluetooth Setup Assistant and select Any Device instead of Printer, I see the printer in the list and can view the Passkey options. It is set to "Use a specific passkey", which is what I need. I have tried changing it to a different option and then changing it back, but it does not seem like this has an effect on how the printer is paired. I have never been asked for a passkey when attempting to add this printer, and I suspect that this is why I cannot print to it.
I have also tried enabling and disabling Bluetooth sharing, and this does not seem to have an effect, whether "require pairing" is checked or not. Isn't there some place where I can choose "Pair this device" once it has been discovered? I find it strange that I can connect to it but have no option to pair afterward (at least that I can find). To make the matter more complicated, the printer disappears from the device list in the Bluetooth System Preferences after about 30 seconds, so I have to remove the printer and reinstall it in order to see the it in the list again.
I am able to print to this printer using bluetooth from a Windows XP machine, so I don't think that there is a problem with the adapter. I am also able to print to this printer using USB, so I don't think that there is a driver problem. I believe (though I certainly could be wrong) that the issue is that the device is not paired. Can anybody help?
    Thank you.

I was trying to find a way to use the Epson drivers because the Gutenprint drivers don't support duplexing or feeding out of the front tray on this printer, but at least this got bluetooth printing working. I downloaded the latest Gutenprint drivers (5.2.2), ran the uninstall program first to get rid of the old drivers, and then installed the new ones. I added the printer through the bluetooth heading in the Add Printer dialog, and I selected the RX680 Gutenprint driver (which was not available with the default OS X 10.5.5 installation). Once again, the printer showed up as connected but not paired in the Bluetooth System Preferences, and it disappeared from the device list after a few seconds, but printing works now. The print quality for this printer is much improved by the new drivers as well.
Bluetooth setup is mentioned in the user documentation. It's kind of a joke:
Macintosh computer: Double-click Bluetooth File Exchange in your Utilities folder and follow the on-screen instructions.
That's it. I have been disappointed with this printer on a number of occasions. If you are going to connect directly through USB, then it's probably fine. If you want to use any form of network connectivity, you had better be running Windows on any machine involved.
I'll talk with Epson support to see if I can get any further with their drivers. Since it's supposed to work, I'd like to see if I can get it to happen. Otherwise, I'll return the adapter and share the printer through a spare desktop.

  • Epson rx680 will not print after apple update print driver

  • AEBSn USB Printer Port Share X-Platform for EPSON RX680

Here on the Apple Discussion are any of you aware of any reason why this model (Stylus Photo RX680) will not work on BOTH a Mac mini with OS X 10.5 AND a Dell PC with Windows XP Home via an AirPort Extreme Base Station N using the USB Port as a print server? I realize the AEBSn is not EPSON's product and I will be asking them the same question, but I would like any perspective here as well if there is anything pertaining to drivers or the printer equipment itself. [The printer (An All-In-One) dates back to being purchased at the same time as other Apple equipment, but the head honcho insists on using the Dell as her primary computer while staff (me) uses the Mac and she has a user partition on it as well.] BTW - if we got the printer portion working does that mean we might not get the scanner to work too in this set-up? (Right now it is only by direct connections to either computer). Thank You.

No help either, except to tell you mine doesn't work either. I have tried everything and the RX680 will not print from an airport extreme or timecapsule. Epson support was no help.

  • Issues installing Epson RX680 printer driver

i got a new printer, a espon printer stylus rx680. although i've installed the printer driver, the rx680 isn't listed at all and i can't add the printer. spent good money and i'm determined to make this printer work... plus i threw away the box so i can't return it ... any suggestions on what i should do?

If you are current with your Software Updates, then you should have the Oct 4. Epson Printer Drivers v2.12 for OS X installed. This provides support for the R2880 directly from Print & Scan system preferences.
If your R2880 is already present in your Print & Scan configuration, you may need to first remove it, then add it back, choosing the Epson R2880 driver (version 9).

  • Epson rx680 "pauses" when printing

Brand new install; cd then updates from website. Finds the printer, but every time I try to print anything the printer pauses. A window showing ink level appears, then goes away and the printer pauses.
I ran disk utility and a gazillion epson updates went flashing by, but still no go. Ideas?

    Printer sharing is not enabled

  • Since Snow Leopard epson RX680 will not print CD labels and color bad

I have tried everything recommended, all udates and drivers and etc... no luck printing on CDs. Can anyone help me? I cannot afford a new printer.

i have the exact same problem, i even rang and emailed epson, no luck, iv'e tried all the updates, even changed thin ink as i thought low ink could be causing the problem, it just doesn't let you click on print, grrrr have you had any luck??? i have the epson rx700w, but it uses the same print cd software...

  • Anybody Here Using Epson RX680?

I've just started trying a few things with my new printer, and I'm starting to think I purchased the wrong one.
I wasn't able to print a borderless photo in iPhoto with this printer. I had a border on one edge.
Envelopes (at least, #10) seem to cut off the left edge of the return address, unless you move the text towards the middle (making it look pretty bad).
User's Guide indicates envelopes should be fed with the flap side on the left, print side up. In fact, I've found the flap side has to be on the right (at least with Pages and Easy Envelopes widget).
Printing envelopes using Microsoft Word 2008 is even worse. The text isn't oriented properly. No idea how to fix that.
Making a copy seem to work fine.
User's Guide doesn't really do a good job explaining how to insert the CD carrier for printing onto a CD....I'm still not sure how to do this.
All in all, I'm starting to think I should have kept my Canon i960!
I don't know if this is a Leopard problem or Epson printer driver problem.
(BTW, I'm using the current driver from Epson's web site).
    Any positive experiences out there?

Yes...I did get an answer from Epson. Not exactly what I'd hoped to hear from them, though. (Pasted below). I haven't tried their solution yet, I'm afraid.
    Mike
Thank you for contacting the Epson Connection.
The OS 10.X operating system does not appear to recognize the #10 envelope
size correctly, so it may print addresses in the wrong place on the
envelope. This issue is not specific to one model of printer; you may see
this issue taking place with various manufacturers and models of printer.
Thus far it has been reported from both Word and Appleworks.
    Workaround:
In order to have the envelope print relatively close to the desired result,
you will need to select envelope #9 rather than envelope #10.
In Microsoft Word X for Macintosh:
    1) Choose custom from envelope "printing options"
    2) Choose size 9 envelope
    3) Choose options; face up, clockwise rotation - and the icon that shows
the envelope in the upper left of the feeder.
    4) Load envelope with the top flap to the left (see envelope printing in
the user's guide for the printer in use).
Note: When printing on the envelope with these settings, the result may not
be perfect but it will be much closer to the desired result. For comparison
or for greatest accuracy, try printing the envelope from a program in the
    classic environment.
If you require further assistance with this particular issue, please ensure
all of our previous correspondence is contained in your reply, so we can
better track the history of this issue.

  • Epson rx680

After I got notice from Apple's Software Update that there were Epson print drivers available for Snow Leopard I automatically updated. Even though my printer seemed to work fine with SL before the update it now goes to the Epson print controller and gives me an error and refuses to print. I've tried downloading the entire Epson package from their site and installing that, but again, failure to print. Any suggestions would be helpful. I'm also posting to their tech support page. TIA

Update: I did a clean uninstall of the Epson software, rebooted and did a clean install from the downloaded Epson dmg. I tried printing from Pages, Safari, and Preview with the same results, an error in the Epson print monitor that says: /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents/MacOS /rastertoescpll failed
During the installation, each one of them, toward the end I would get a dialog that said:
    System extension cannot be used
The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/hpPlugInInit.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update.
When I go to that directory /System/Library/Extensions/ it is empty. I still cannot print. Any suggestions are welcome. I had installed an hp G3010 a while back, but haven't been using it. HP's website, of course, is whacked and unhelpful, assuming that the hpPlugInInit.kext is their's and is hindering the Epson software install. Arrrggghhhh!

  • Color Management, Photoshop CS3 and Epson Inkjet Printer

I have been down this road before but here goes again...
    Im using Photoshop CS3.
Im printing on an Epson Stylus Photo RX680 using Photo quality inkjet paper.
I know this printer is capable of very good quality prints.
Thing is I can not figure out the correct combination of color management settings to get a decent print out of Photoshop or InDesign.
I have read that you are supposed to turn off all printer color management and let Adobe manage the color. Doesnt seem to work.
I just get overly magenta images that look awful.
If I let the Epson color management control color I can get a lot closer but the print out is far from accurate or high quality.
So what the heck IS the correct protocol for printing to an Epson inkjet printer from an Adobe app.
BTW, I do seem to get a fairly decent print out of something like a PDF which I understand does its own postscript conversion before hitting the printer.
Is this what my issue is?
Does Photoshop or InDesign require postscript ripper software to get decent results out of an inkjet printer?

Have spent hours with both Adobe and Epson support people. I've read several of these forums. Is there an insurmountable problem with CS3 and Epson (2200/2400 are mine)? I have the Leopard patches and upgrade 10.5.4.
With Photoshop managing the color I get prints that are slightly underexposed and carry a pink cast. Color management is off. With the printer managing the color I get prints that are too green and dark. Epson advice here is to have color management off. There are two other choices for management but to adjust a perfectly balanced print to the printer's whim seem like cruel punishment.
Have a calibrated monitor and my CS2 works beautifully. Perhaps the best idea is to just go back to CS2 until Adobe and Epson can decide what to do. According to Adobe people, the CS3 gives much of the management back to Epson. According to Epson -- with CS3, you should choose the printer to manage the color (since this seems to be the trend between the two companies) but we users are not happy with the results.
What is the solution for right now?

  • Fixed Epson Stylus Photo RX580 - Unable to print from AirPort in 10.5.x

After upgrading 1st Gen MBP 17" to 10.5.4 I could not print from the Airport, unless I used Bonjour through one of my 10.4.11 Macs. Much sadness. Found this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6170067 - near the bottom was "big ant" response (for an AL C1100). He has a 9-step process from Stepson, and it work fabulously. One suggestion - in the last step, you can choose which model driver, I advise selecting the second choice driver Epson Stylus Photo RX580 - Gutenprint v5.1.3. It adds better options for printing, especially for print quality options. I plan to try the solution on my office RX680 next.

After trying for weeks, I finally came up with a very simple workaround that allows me to print to the Stylus Pro 3800 wirelessly again. I don't know why I didn't try this before. All I did was change the way I connect the printer to the Airport Extreme Base Station from using USB to Ethernet. In the printer's front panel "Network Setup" menu I made sure that the Bonjour option was enabled.
After this, it was just a simple matter of adding the printer again from the Print Fax preference pane and everything worked!
So, if anyone else is having a similar problem, try using the Ethernet port on your printer instead of the USB one.
    Cheers

  • Installed New Epson Drivers; Now No Duplex

I installed, via Software Update, the newest Apple drivers for my Epson RX680 printer. Now I find I can't print on both sides of the paper. It says no duplexer is available.
    Anyone else seeing this?

Well, I think I've answered my own question here.
On my system, anyway, I was having trouble with the Auto Duplex setting not being available in all applications.
It turns out the problem was "cured" by going to the Presets drop down in the Print dialog box. I saw Standard was selected there, so I selected it again in the drop down. Voila!!! Now the Auto Duplex is available, whereas before it was grayed out.
I'm not even sure why I stumbled onto this, as I NEVER have a need for the Presets "feature", and have never had anything in them.
Anyway...all my printer functions are working now. (The card reader in this printer died several months ago, but I can live without it).
