Epson Stylus 9600 and ColorSync

Printing problem with Epson Stylus 9600 printer and Photoshop CS:
When I choose Print Settings from Media Type -menu for example, Glossy paper does not exist. When I choose Print with Preview from Photoshop, they do show up.
ColorSync Utility shows profiles are correctly installed (they show up under Installed ColorSync profiles). When I choose Registeted ColorSync devices in ColorSync Utility they do not show up.
The printer driver has been downloaded from EPSON web page, it is not the build-in GIMP-Print driver. I have tried to re-install it but without luck.
Any ideas why Epson driver behaves like this?

There is a good chance that if you downloaded from there site and it went to your desktop and you opened it it didn't work.
If you download from there site and it goes to your desktop you must Click on Mac HD and then Applications and then drag and drop it in The Epson Printer Setup folder before you open it.
Unless it downloads directly to the Epson Folder...Don

  • Maximum document lenght with Epson Stylus 9600 Pro?

    Hi!
I'm trying to print a long picture on Epson Stylus 9600 Pro printer from Adobe Photoshop CS 2. The maximum allowed length is 2.5 meters. The printer is capable to print longer documents, since I am using a roll paper.
Is this a limitation of Photoshop CS 2, Epson driver or the operating system? Is there a way to get around of this limitation?

    Hi tomis,
Generally, the application is the most likely reason for the length limit. Epson's site simply states the length possibility as "Maximum printable length Up to 100' (limited by roll length and software application)". You notice that it also puts the onus on the application for length limit. If you call Epson, the driver itself usually has a limit. Don't know what it is for the 9600, but the 4000 we use has one that is less than the length of a roll.
The only way I know around it is a two step solution. First, you need an application to print from that will allow just about any length document you want to create. Second you need output software that will allow the same.
The first is your application. InDesign CS supports a maximum document length of 216 inches, or 5.4864 meters. Still well short of the length of a roll. I don't know if CS2 offers a larger document size. There's an old trick to get around that, though. We had to use it often in a shop I once worked at to get around Quark's 40 inch limit. What you do is create your raster image at a higher resolution to account for an increase in output size. If your normal file resolution is 300 dpi, than you would create it at 600 dpi to get an effective output resolution of 300 dpi when printed at 200%. 900 dpi for 300% and so on. So for triple size, you can cheat the maximum InDesign length to 16.46 meters (54 feet) by printing it out of the application at 300%.
For the second part, you need a RIP. We use ColorBurst on our 4000. RIPs don't care about the paper size other than exceeding the maximum printing width of the printer. They will let you print a file 10 miles in length if it were possible to get paper that long. RIPs just don't have the length limit that the typical supplied print drivers do.
    Hope this helps.

  • Epson Stylus Pro and Epson Stylus Pro XL

    Dear Friends,
I am looking for drivers for my two old Espon Printers "Stylus PRO" and "Stylus PRO XL".
Unfortunately, I did not found anything on Epson Web portal and into the good packet "GIMP Gutenprint".
On web is disponible just version for MAC OS 7 and MAC OS 9, but not for MAC OS X.
Anybody can suggest me how I can solve this issue?
Thank you guys for your help.

PS Those printed are connected on MAC with a Serial port>USB connector, that is going well on Windows Computer (PC well recognize the printers).

    Hi there,
Will This Work With My Printer?
The original Epson Stylus Color and Stylus Pro should work. These are the original models of the series and have no other model number associated with them.

Also, have you tried one of the other Stylus Pro Drivers In Printer Setup Utility?

  • Epson Stylus Pro and system resources. PowerMac G4 and iMac iSight

    Originally in Mac Pro discussions
    Hi Ned,
If I may, I would like to extend the discussion regarding Macs and large format printers.
At work we have a Stylus Pro 9000. On a G4 Power Mac 533Mhz/Panther/640MB RAM, the processing of jobs takes a very long time. On the iMac (G5 iSight/20"/stock 512MB RAM), it is about a third of the time in processing jobs.
Now I don't use this printer, but others are pulling their hair out to get jobs beyond the processing in the print queue. The jobs tend to cease. I have run some test jobs myself without any problems. The only difference I can see is that they are using custom sizes in the page setup where I have used set sizes i.e. A0. The other factor is that I think they have been trying very high quality output in terms of the settings they are using. (I'll add that my test runs are done when they are not in at work and vice-versa. This is a studio for artists/printmakers). I note that activity shows very little free RAM during the processing of jobs, more so on the iMac. I am wondering would adding an extra 512MB RAM improve the processing times. I am not sure if it will solve the not actually printing situation though?

I'll add that the Epson Stylus Pro printer is connected by Ethernet

Not sure if your all in one will connect automatically in Mavericks. My WF 3540 had to be manually set up to connect to my Airport hub. A pain, but I finially got all the info correctly entered.....If you can print via usb then you need to set up the wireless connection from the printer.

  • GIMP Printing and ColorSync... ?

Since discovering I can now print (to my Epson Stylus Color 1160) printer using the GIMP drivers furnished in Tiger 10.4.11, I nevertheless seem to be missing ColorSync support.
Images (photos and Photoshop images) don't seem to be printing with reliable color rendition. (All my artwork previously had been elaborately calibrated for screen display and printing via the Epson printing software and ColorSync. That is, until Epson decided to orphan the printer by abandoning software support for Tiger and beyond.)
When I search on the Internet for an explanation of the GIMP/ColorSync issue, I find numerous articles that assert that these GIMP drivers do not support my old ColorSync (ICC) profiles, and which articles are otherwise oblique, abstruse, and equivocal.
I can't understand what I'm supposed to do:
    -- Turn off ColorSync (how?);
    -- Re-calibrate new ICC profiles for the printer (again, how? By using the ColorSync Utility?);
-- Spend a fortune on ink and paper by trial and error test printing?
If you have a simple understandable explanation of how to print my existing ColorSynced image files in this situation, I'd surely like to know! And thanks!

    Norm Caryl wrote:
I've downloaded GutenPrint 5.2.6, but haven't installed it because the docs (seem to) say that it won't reliably use the printer ICC profiles that I previously assigned via the Epson software...
The documentation has only a paragraph or two in the entire "manual" to address ColorSync.
The Gutenprint drivers are written to be used on many systems such as Linux, Mac OS X, and other *nix platforms. They were not written specifically for OS X and for use with ColorSync.
What the manual is saying is basically what I mentioned earlier. ICC profiles that were supplied by Epson for use with their own drivers paper, and ink will not produce the same output when used with a different driver such as Gutenprint. Likewise, the Epson provided ICC profiles will not produce the same results if you use third party ink or third party papers.
The Photoshop "color space" for my files is the "Adobe RGB (1998)." Not sure what will happen if I change this to sRGB for the image... (if that's possible).
I am far from expert in color managing. It may be of some benefit if you read a discussion on the Gutenprint forums at https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/forums/forum/4359/topic/3810875. Of course each printer is going to be different, but the principles outlined there would still apply. In that discussion, it was found that changing the color space to AppleRGB and then printing using "Same as Source" was getting close to the right output. You still may need to make some adjustments to the Density or Gamma controls in the Gutenprint settings.
One thing you will need to pay particular attention to is to make sure that you have the type of paper selected properly in the print window under Printer Features. Also, you will need to set the proper resolution and image type in the Gutenprint settings under Printer Features.
ColorSync profiles show up in the (Tiger) GIMP printing routine (one for each paper stock), but I'm not sure where these came from -- are they my original ICC profiles from my Epson software, or are they profiles GIMP furnishes?
The Gutenprint drivers do not provide any ICC profiles. The PPDs do contain directives to manage to the sRGB profile that comes with OS X as that is the color space that Gutenprint expects.
I was hoping there'd be a "simple" way to convert my old ColorSync profiles so that I could print them with reliable color rendition...
As I have 30 or 40 photos (of approx. 220MB) to be printed at 13" x 19", I'm a bit reluctant to go in and color balance them all in the ColorSync Utility (especially as I don't understand whether or not the ColorSync Utility is producing an ICC profile for the printer. (Or is the ColorSync Utility merely creating another screen profile?)
I have pretty much reached my knowledge limit on the use of ColorSync and the use of it with the Gutenprint drivers. As a practical matter, it is always best to experiment with smaller test prints and use copies of any images you test just to make sure you don't accidentally corrupt a good file.

  • Photoshop elements 10 not printing to Epson Stylus 9800

I am running photoshop elements 10 on a windows 8 computer and trying to print to my Epson Stylus 9800 and everything is coming out almost black. I can print color graphics from the web perfectly but no luck with elements. Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do to fix it?

    Did it ever work properly?
Do you have the latest drivers for the printer?

  • Photoshop CS4 11.0.2.  Epson stylus R3000 Compatability Issue

Due to financial constraints, I am still using Photoshop CS4 11.0.2. I am printing on an Epson stylus R3000 and cannot get it to recognize any of the listed profiles for Epson Archival Matte papers or similar. The printer seems to recognize I am trying to print using a different printer profile (Epson R3000 Archival Matte) but after attempting to recognise that communication, just feeds the paper straight out. I think there's a communication issue between Photoshop and printer. It's not the printer as the same thing occurs on a different printer too. Any ideas. I'm going frantic!

I think the would be a OS configuration problem.  What OS are you using.  If Windows can you use the start button Devices and Printers see your Epson printer click  adjust print options and see the profiles in the dialog Also in the control Panel there is a color management applet that show what profiles are associated with devices. Herewhat I see on my Windows system.

  • Epson stylus 3850 printer driver

am looking to switch to an imac from a pc but have an epson stylus 3850 and cannot find any mac drivers? HELP!!!

I would second Greg's opinion. If you are tied to all the capabilities and interface of the Epson supplied drivers for Windows, the Gutenprint drivers may not fulfill your needs. If you are a professional that needs exacting color matching, you may have a hard time zeroing in on that with the Gutenprint drivers.
On the other hand, if you want to use the printer on a network, even if Epson supplied drivers they would not work in a network environment. The Gutenprint drivers will work on a network.
One other possibility not previously mentioned are the commercial PrintFab drivers <http://printfab.com>. They may provide results that you feel are better than the Gutenprint drivers even if they are just a tad short of the quality of the output of Epson drivers.

  • Upgraded to Mountain Lion and CS3, I am no longer able to access the correct dialog box for fine printing with Epson Stylus Photo 1400.

I have recently upgraded my Mac OS to Mountain Lion, and am using Photoshop CS3 together with Lightroom 5. To my absolute horror, in either Adobe program I am no longer able to access the dialog box which allows me to choose paper type, size, and print quality when attempting to print on my Epson Stylus Photo 1400. An excruciating hour on the phone with largely unintelligible folks at Epson seemed to prove the problem lies with Adobe instead of Epson. I'd greatly appreciate whatever advice might be forthcoming from the Community.

Well, this seemed to work.. can't believe it! After a year of messing with this!
    from Stevejones5
"I found a way around this problem. GO to HD/Library/Printers/Epson/InkjetPrinter/ICCProfiles and you will find a file labeled Pro38.profiles. This is a package file. Control click on it and reveal contents. Then you can copy all the profiles and paste them into your Colorsync folder either in the HD/Library folder or your own Home folder/Library. Then the profiles will show up in Photoshop and Lightroom."
Key, is to Control click on the printer to "Open contents". Then open Resource folder. Copy everything in it and then paste it into the "Colorsync" folder in your Library.  (Remember, to get to Library you have to hold the command key down for it to appear in "Go" Menu for Finder.
Then I reinstalled printer driver from Apple, then rebooted computer, then plugged in printer. And VOILA-- I can now select Epson Premium Photo Paper Luster!

  • Epson stylus Pro 9600 problem printing?

We have 3 Epson stylus pro 9600 connect to LAN network and the latest driver 8.6.1. We have Mac Pro with Lion installed 10.7.4. We tried to print the progress comes up and then it says error.  This is what we did to solve the problem:  1. we unplug the LAN Cable and plug directly to the Mac Pro
                                                                                                                   2. we unplug the the cable from the printer settings still had green light
                                                                                                                   3. we used IP addresses too
                                                                                                                   4. we turn off the printer and restarted the Mac
                                                                                                                   5. it only works with USB. This defeats the purpose of using the LAN.
It seems the printer or Lion does not recognize each other. It won't print!
    Any solutions.
    Thank you in advance
    Luis

Adobe blamed Epson drivers for not anticipating CS3's changes. Like they're clairvoyant or something. Their reason was that it was too hard to take into account every printer on the market when writing the new (unasked for) CS3 printing module. A feeble excuse when it comes to Epson pro machinery, though - it is the industry standard, after all.
Solution? - use CS2 for printing, authored back when Adobe wrote its software to be compatible with existing equipment and drivers, not expecting the world to fall into line with whatever it decided it would do. CS2 works flawlessly with my 7800, CS3 remains a basket case for the same reasons you mention, though checking/unchecking the fine detail box makes no difference. CS3 is erratic - sometimes it works as directed, but then out of nowhere it will suddenly decide to attenuate a pano print.
We'll see if they get it right with CS4's "improved" printing, but don't hold your breath.

  • Network Printing: Epson Stylus Pro 9600

Forgive me if I sound like n00b, since I am new at this Mac administration thing. I got stuck taking care of a small network of various Macs at work. These are in our graphics design dept. They have an Epson Stylus Pro 9600 that they have been using, mainly with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Anyway, as far as I can tell, they were using the Epson via AppleTalk/Bonjour. The problem is that I was told from on high that this is a big no-no. So, I tried to setup the Epson on our Active Directory network. I assigned it an IP address, and made sure it was connected. The two main users were able to see it with the new IP address in the Print setup utility, and everything seemed ok.
When I tried printing something, however, the job hangs up. Finally, it will give an error that it could not communicate with the printer. The odd thing is that everything appears ok, and I can ping the printer address from the machines in question. Any suggestions?
The machines are a mix of G4/G5s all running 10.4.8.

If the Epson driver supports network printing, it will be called something like Epson TCP/IP, and will be found after clicking More Printers. Is that what you're using?
If you're using the Gimp-Print driver (included in OS X), then you must be using IP printer > LPD or IPP or HP Jetdirect. You'll need to read the documentation for the printer (or print server if that's how it's connected) and find out which protocol(s) is supported. TCP/IP raw (or socket or port 9100) is easiest because that equals HP Jetdirect protocol, and only the IP address is required. If LPD or IPP, then you need to find the device queue name (sometimes called port name), because this is required in Printer Setup (it's part of the address to the printer).
