Epson Stylus Photo 2200 defective print menu in Mac X

My print menu on my Epson 2200 suddenly changed in Mac X. It's added a dither algorhythm choice and a complex DPI menu. I don't like it, it screws up my photos and I would like to get rid of it. I have taken everything that makes reference to printer off the harddrive but it's still there. I have reinstalled, uninstalled, installed again the print drivers on the disk to no avail. I cannot get rid of this menu. The one I had before was a pain but a less complicated one and my photos printed beautifully. I might mention it is not the printer as if I go to Mac 9 with it's perfect menu, the photos print beautifully also. Anyone had this problem and, if so, what'd they do. Epson Technical help was confounded and gave up on me. What do I need to get rid of to start all over? Thanks

You indicated in your first post that you have been installing, removing, etc. Let's try a fresh start.
We'll do some clean up. Open Printer Setup Utility and delete any printer queues you have set up for the Epson 2200. Quit Printer Setup Utility
Now go to the /Library/Printers folder and delete the Epson folder if there is one present. Next go to the /Library/Receipts folder and delete the "EpsonPrinterDriver.pkg" and the "SP2200 18a.pkg". You may only have one of these files or you may have both.
You can now start a fresh installation process of the printer driver. I would recommend that you use the latest driver from the Epson site. It is listed as the "Printer Driver v1.8aAs". When you unpack the download, you will find that it places a folder "epson11019" on your Desktop. Inside this folder will be a disk image that contains the actual installer for the drivers. Run the installer.
Now it's time to add your printer(s). We need to go back to your Desktop. As you unpacked the Epson download, a PDF file "OS X booklet.pdf" was also placed on your Desktop. Open this file. It will give you a pictorial guide on how to add your printer in OS X 10.3.x. Open Printer Setup Utility. The short version is that you open Printer Setup Utility; highlight your printer if it appears; click on the Add icon and highlight your printer; use the pop up menu to select EPSON USB or EPSON FIREWIRE; select the paper format you want to add; click Add to add the printer.
You do not need Easy Print for your printer driver to work. Depending on the applications your are running, it may provide some extra measure of "ease of use". It should be noted however that this Easy Print is more a utility program that will only add enhancements if the application you are using is written to take advantage of the Easy Print software.
It is only the Gimp-Print drivers that have the choices for "dither" et al. The Epson drivers are similar to those used in OS 9.x. To get at these settings, look for "Print Settings" in the Copies & Pages pop up menu.

  • Epson Stylus Photo 2200 RIP Software errors

I'm at my wit's end! For no apparent reason, I cannot print to my Epson Stylus Photo 2200 with my Stylus RIP Pro 2.0 PS server software from either of my 2 computers--I get the same problems from both computers. I have a Dual 1 GHz PowerPC G4 running Mac OS 10.4.7 and a new 2x2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon running 10.4.8. I'm trying to print from Illustrator CS2. Several different things are happening when I print the job.
    a) It sends the print job to print far too quickly. Sometimes it times out and never even appears in the 127.0.0.1 window, and doesn't send it to the RIP. The job simply disappears. When it does send to the printer, it stops the job, putting it on hold and when I click start jobs, it promptly stops it again and this repeats itself going nowhere.
I gave up, unplugged it, disconnected the USB, plugged it all back in, repaired permissions to both computers, restarted and then tried to print again and then:
    b) In the printer list the job shows up as first printing to the RIP (127.0.0.1) for a few seconds, then it quickly bounces to the next printer on my list, an HP laser jet???!!!
I've uninstalled and reinstalled both the RIP software and the 2200 in printer setup utility and on both systems. All the files I'm trying to print will print directly to the 2200, just not through the RIP software, so I know it's communicating. The files will all print to my other printers as well, but I need to print them to the 2200 with the RIP for best quality.
When I launch the RIP software, sometimes--but not every time--I immediately get a PS server error that says: EPSONLPRService EPSONLPRService error. This happens on both computers. I have received no help from Epson whatsoever. I run a business and I must print this job. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!!!

Thnx for the reply. I think I have a better understanding of your setup. I was thinking that you had a physical RIP, rather than it being software. That would explain why you are using the loopback address to view the spool area of the RIP.
However, could you confirm some more. Is the Epson physically connected to one Mac via USB or is it network with its own IP address?
You also mention in your original post a HP printer jobs were switching to. Is this an Ethernet or USB printer?
The reason I ask is that I was thinking that if they were both networked then there may be an addressing issue. As a test I would change the RIP software so that only the Epson printer is spooled to.
I would also only print from TextEdit. The CS2 suite is not an ideal test app, unless it is only the suite you are having trouble printing from.
I know that you have already performed a repair permissions, but I would do it after booting from the OS X disc. I'm guessing the RIP software acts as a service and starts on boot. If you boot from the disc, the service won't have started and therefore it will respond to any attempt by the system to repair it.
The other thing I would try is downloading the full 10.4.8 Combo updater for Intel and PPC and run this on both Mac's respectively.
Also, check that you have correct queue names for the LPD queue. This can cause jobs to behave as you mention. Better still, see if the software supports some other protocol such as Raw (Port 9100). If it does then you can connect using the HP Jet Direct-Socket to see if that works.

    Paul

  • Epson Stylus Photo 2200 and Bonjour

My Epson Stylus Photo 2200 printer can use either Firewire or USB. When connected directly to my G5 with Firewire I can add printer features which include setups for "Borderless" and "Minimal Margins" printing.
However, from my MacBook Pro, after installing the latest Epson driver, I can print only in Standard mode through Bonjour. This is with the printer attached to my Airport Extreme USB port.
I contacted Epson and this was their reply:
"Thank you for contacting the Epson Connection.
You will need to contact Apple and inform them that there Bonjour protocol
doesn't support extra features like borderless and minimal margins. As
stated before, Epson America supports the product only with a direct USB
connection to a USB port on the computer and a direct Firewire cable to a
firewire port on the computer. Epson America doesn't support or test any
type of third-party printer servers, switchs, routers or Apple base
stations. Apple has already stressed that there base stations do not
support the Epson Status monitor. Unfortunately, if the Apple Bonjour
protocol only supports the "Standard" printer driver, there is nothing
Epson can do about it and you will need to talk to Apple and see if they
    have any work around. "
How can I get this printer to use these features that I use regularly without connecting directly from computer to printer? Is there a work around?
It seems silly to have to connect directly. After all that's why we got MacBooks - to access the internet and print - remotely!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 2GB SDRAM
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You can try uninstalling the drivers for your printer and re-installing the printer drivers....Also, then try to add the printer port and try to check the same.....hope that should sort this out....

  • Purchase advice? Considering the Epson Stylus Photo R3000 Inkjet Printer

Please advise - we're considering the purchase of the Epson Stylus Photo R3000 Inkjet Printer.
Replacing an Epson Stylus Photo R1900 after years of frustration due to no support for printing from Illustrator on a Mac. Many others have posted in frustration as well - a common work-around is to save as PDF, then print from PDF. Our work-around involves PrintFab but we would like to remove that element from the equation.
We have a sizable investment in Epson paper so staying within the Epson family is necessary.
Also must be able to print at 13x19 inches (Super B) which limits our choices.
Given all of the above, can anyone advise for or against the R3000?
    Thanks in advance!
    -Chris

This Apple document says the driver is available for auto-download and install when you add the printer in Print & Scan:
OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download
OS X has a new paradigm for getting print drivers.
Manufacturers give the current driver(s) to Apple to put on its servers.
OS X keeps an "index" of where to find drivers (whether on the server or already installed on your Mac), and when you Add the printer in Print & Scan prefs, or on demand in the print dialog, OS X finds and uses the driver.
No need to download and install anything yourself.
If your Mac says it can't find the driver, you can force CUPS (OS X's print system) to re-build the index of drivers (both online and already installed drivers) by Resetting Printing System:
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
If you're still not getting it working, you can download and install all the epson drivers from:
Epson Printer Drivers v2.18 for OS X
(you may still need to Reset Printing in order to have the drivers found.)

  • Epson Stylus Photo 2200--Roll Paper function not found

After I reset my printer function for another problem, I lost my ability to print on Roll Paper altogether. The other fuctions that go along with the Stylus Photo 2200 driver are not made available.  I cannot print my panoramas.  I have gone around and around and around with Epson who finally seemingly gave up.
When Stylus Photo 2200 is listed as the printer only Epson (SP2200) comes up as a companion printer.  No matter what I do, and I have done everything from dumping everything Epson and starting completely over to every thing Epson suggested.
It seems the menu Printer Setup Utility has changed and when the printer is listed, it only offers only "Printer Model" that stays greyed out instead of "Page Setup" which was what gave me the functions I needed to add in the past .  Is there a way to revert back to the old Printer Setup Utility?  Using the Epson Printer Utility doesn't work because, although it shows the printer driver, it offers no way to add the Roll Paper function.  I hope this makes sense and that someone can figure this out!  Thanks

  • IPhoto 6 and Epson Stylus Photo 2200 Printer

The photos that I print from iPhoto 6 to my Epson 2200 printer are all coming out way too green. What settings do I need to use in the print dialog -- and color management? -- to get decent results? I can print beautifully from Photoshop CS2 to the 2200. I just can't figure out what settings to use in iPhoto. Thanks in advance for your help with this question. _sidpink
    G5 Tower   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Kingstone's reply was helpful even though a little discouraging. But it made me realize that the problem probably lies with the choice of which software is doing the color management. The Epson 2200 printer driver provides some "advanced" settings in the print window, and I had been specifying "No color adjustment," because that's the setting recommended when printing from Photoshop. I had simply been trying the same setting when printing from iPhoto. But I went back and printed a photo from iPhoto using the "Color Controls" setting (without changing any of the variables), and the print came out perfectly! So I've answered the question to my satisfaction thanks to Kingstone's reply -- and I don't have to go out and invest in Photoshop Elements.

  • Cannot add Epson stylus photo 1400 to printer list

    Hi,
I just unpacked my new printer, however I don't seem to be able to install it properly. I have tried both the the driver from the website as well as the one that came with it on CD. First, installing seems to go smoothly. Then I get to a screen telling me that before I can print I will have to add it to the printer list. The next screen gives me the printer list with the Epson Stylus's name on it. However, clicking on it I am not able to select the proper device name. It just doesn't appear on the list. (click here for a screenshot: http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/8601/bild15zy6.png ) Finally, the Epson driver installation app tells me that my printer "has not been added to the printer list" and that I should better go back and try again. "Running a printer check" actually makes it draw paper in but doesn't print anyhow.
Could someone help me with this?
    Thanks a lot.

I now managed to install my printer. To state my problem first, so people don't have to read the whole thread again:
My printer (this should be printer model independent) is connected directly via USB to my macbook. When I tried to add it to my printer list, I recieved the message "Error: -9672, An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer"
As I gathered from the forums, this points to missing rights during installation. In a lucky guess, I logged onto my computer not with my usual account but with the admin account and from there I could install it without any problems!
That is a bit strange as I should have been able to assign admin rights via entering the password from my usual account, but there you go. Strange are the ways of Apple (as with my most favourite mac problem/solution of all times: when you use the password reset feature from the install DVD, it uses an english keyboard layout, but in the standard log-in window it uses whatever the locale is set to, thus e.g. mixing z und y in German layout amongst others. This small misunderstanding cost me hours over christmas! Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone has similar trouble)
    I hope this helps,
    Otto

  • Printing to Stylus Photo 2200 At High Resolution Causes Color Shift

I recently upgraded to InDesign CS3, and I'm having color issues when printing to my Epson Stylus Photo 2200 using higher resolution settings.
From the Print dialog box I click the Printer button and choose Print Settings from the pull down menu. For Media Type I choose Enhanced Matte Paper and set the Print Quality to Photo - 1440.
When I print the file (a document I've printed successfully many times before) the grey process color in my logo come out burgundy, and the other colors are all off.
If I don't adjust any of the Printer settings, the colors appear fine, but the quality is poor.
How can I fix this issue?

Sorry for being but I was just brought in to solve the same problem as Nobody Special and now searching forums! Both Apple Cinema monitor and Epson 2200 were calibrated with a Greytag MacBeth Eye1Photo.
The problem is a color shift and a greater saturation of color. When the image was printed with the same system using InDesign and Photoshop CS2, it printed accurately. With CS3, the problem noted above developed.

  • Epson Stylus Photo R800 issues

I have just installed Mac OSX 10.5, Leopard on a G5 2.7Ghz DP tower (OSX 10.4.11, Tiger still on an alternate drive in the computer). I installed on a new drive and used Migration Assistant to move all my personal data and settings. I use an Epson Stylus Photo R800 inkjet printer.
I am not sure if I have an Epson or an OSX issue.
In Tiger I was able to select “Stylus Photo R800 (Manual Feed)” and “Stylus Photo R800 (Sheet Feeder – Borderless)” as additional printers to use for Print CD and printing true borderless 6”x4” photos, but in Leopard I cannot “find” these choices, neither can I find a way to “Add Printer” as I could in Tiger. I have looked for new drivers etc. and nothing helps. Using Epson’s Print CD selecting the “Print” pull-down menu to choose “Epson Print CD” brings up the “paper out or incorrect output tray position” message—the statement not being true.
What am I missing? I notice that the hierarchy, folders, files etc., appear vastly different in Tiger and Leopard and am afraid to “manually relocate” any items! Can anyone please show me or describe for me how to add these very necessary selections in Leopard?
Any expert help will be sincerely appreciated.
    M

Thanks for your support-- you are correct Epson did not solve my problem. Over time, none of my several printing issues have been solved by Epson . Self-help and Forums have been my best solutions. Once Again I discovered the answer myself. The menu options have been moved around in Leopard compared to Tiger. In "EPSON PrintCD" you now go to Print..., choose Page Setup and unlike Tiger when you choose "US letter" under Paper Size, pulled down to US Letter, there is now a side menu that pops up and allows you to choose US letter(Manual Feed). This takes care of the CD printing problem. Though I haven't tried it as yet, I think that under this new "Paper Size" menu choosing "4x6 ( borderless)" will solve my borderless printing problem!
Sorry I can't shed any light on your particular issues

  • Epson Stylus Photo R1800 now working

I'm posting this because I found help here and hope this will be useful. When I switched to Leopard on my Mac Pro, my R1800 printer stopped working. First it printed everything in a washed out draft mode. Then, even after doing what was suggested in this forum, I still couldn't get back t my original dialogue box, which seemed to be the only way to activate the gloss optimizer for real photo quality.
This is how I got back to a fully functioning printer (Note: don't skip any steps, like I did initially).
    1. Open up the print and fax dialogue box in system preferences. Highlight the Epson printer and click on the "minus box" to delete that printer driver.
    2. Restart your computer (very important)
    3. Go to the Epson Website (http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid= 14121&infoType=Downloads) and download Epson EasyPrint v3.1bA and Printer Driver v3.0aAs.
    4. Install both downloads.
    5. Open up the print and fax dialogue box again. If the Epson R1800 shows up again, highlight it and click on the minus sign to delete it again. Then click on the "plus" sign and add the R1800 back.
    6. Look for the menu that says "Print Using." Make sure to select Epson SP R1800 (1) and not the Gutenprint option.
    7. Close the dialogue box and you should be good to go.
This procedure returned my original (pre-Leopard) set of options to the R1800 and, once again, I'm getting nice prints.
Note: I do have to access that menu in a new way from Photoshop
    a. make sure the triangle next to Epson Stylus Photo R1800 in the print dialogue box is pointing up to reveal the expanded menu selection.
    b. under the popup menu where "layout" is listed, select "Print Settings" and you should se the menu you are used to for the R1800.
    I hope this helps.

    Kent,
The problem here is that the original poster is using an Intel-based Mac (Mac Pro). The driver he is referring to ONLY supports Intel-based Macs (Printer Driver v3.0aAs). So, not to put too fine a point on it, but the post should have been entitled "Epson Stylus Photo R1800 Now Working for Intel-Mac - Others SOL" (grin).
Apparently Epson doesn't think many of us have computers more than a couple years old - and that they shouldn't have to support them.
The printing problem is one that has been well documented and the lack of drivers apparently only affects those "ancient" PowerPC models, not the Intel-Macs.
So, the only current solution that I have found to date is:
    1. Replace your decrepid computer with a new Intel-Mac (about $7k in my case)
    2. Replace your Epson printer (I hear that the HP B9180 printers are working) and hope the new one works with your ancient PowerPC.
    3. Hope that Epson gets around to writing a driver for us before our photo business go belly-up.
    Full Disclosure:
Somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but still extremely frustrated.

  • Epson Stylus Photo 1290 - how do I remove items from the print queue?

Description of problem with "Epson Stylus Photo 1290" Application:
After selecting Show Completed Jobs from the main menu (Jobs > Hide/Show Completed Jobs) I am presented with a status list of print jobs (a.k.a. "print queue") that are either marked as "Completed", "Cancelled", "On Hold", "Printing" etc. Each and every time I print an item it is added to this list.
I simply want to clear this list.
However, the application's "Delete" button appears to only transform a "Printing" job to a "Cancelled" job, for example.
So how on earth do I clear the old (and, to me, useless) jobs listed in this print queue?
I know this isn't apple software but seeking help on the EPSON sites (and the rest of the net) has led me nowhere.
Many many thanks in advance if anyone can suggest anything!
    My set-up:
    Hardware:
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,1
    Boot ROM Version: MBP51.007E.B05
    SMC Version (system): 1.33f8
    Running: OS X 10.5.8
Problem App: EPSON Stylus Photo 1290.app, version 6.0.3
    Queue name: EPSONStylus_Photo1290

Driver version: 3.09 (confirmed as latest)
    URL: usb://EPSON/Stylus%20Photo%201290?serial=WORLL0112061542320
Have print log files been cleared: Yes (using MacPilot)
Have print preferences been trashed/reset: Yes (all that I could find)
When did this problem start: not sure, I first noticed it several months after first using it on my MBP 10.5.x

Hmmmm. Doesn't look like I can edit my post. Okay.......
Contrary to what I've said above, this IS an Apple issue as the problem lies in the Print Queue, which is part of the OS.
The "fix" is to go System Preferences > Print & Fax and then delete the 1290 from the list of printers.
When the 1290 printer is re-added its print queue is now empty AND the Delete button does as it is supposed to do - it deletes items from the queue list.
    Hooray!

  • Why isn't my printer (epson stylus photo 820) working anymore??

    HI,
I am having problems with my printer, an epson stylus photo 820. I have been using it for a long time, and suddenly for no reason, it refuses to print!
When I am trying to print something, in the stylus photo 820 dialogue box, it says "printing" under "status" but nothing happens for about 6-7 minutes. Then, the printer makes a noise and in the dialogue box it says "jobs stopped."
I have trying to reinstall the software that came with the printer, but it did not solve anything.
    Thank you for your help.

    You're Welcome highonthesound!
As I no longer have the Epson drivers installed, I'm not exactly sure how you can check which driver you currently are using.
If the procedure posted below doesn't work, the Epson may be dead. This worked for my Epson C86 whenever I encountered problems.
Change any C86 reference I may have missed editing, to your 820 model.
    * Download the driver from Epson - 820, Printer Driver v1.8bAs
    * Before moving the folder & files listed below, to a Temporary Epson Trash Folder, that you should create on the Desktop, open Printer Setup Utility, and delete the 820.
    * Quit Printer Setup Utility
    * Move the files (Posted in CAPITALIZED Italics), to the newly created Temporary Epson Trash Folder
    HD > Applications >

    Epson products
I also had a Epson OS X booklet.pdf, that I had saved in my Documents folder. You will get a new one. After the installation, I replaced it. You may not have saved your original one. It's no big deal, there's really not much in it, In fact I don't remember the last time I opened it!
    * Quit ALL running Applications
    * Repair Permissions using Disk Utility in the Utilities folder
    * Dig out your Epson 820 Start Here instruction quick sheet, for reference
    * Unplug the USB cable from the Mac & then from the 820
    * Re-attach the USB cable to the 820 & then to the Mac
    * Turn on your 820
    * Double click on: epson11518.sea.hqx to unzip (This may have a different name)
    * Double click on: epson11518.sea to expand (As well as this one)
    * Follow the prompts & instructions
    * When the Vise installer opens in a window, double click it to start the install
    * When the installation is complete, turn off the printer & restart your Mac.
    * Repair Permisions again
    * Turn on the 820
    * Open Printer Setup Utility
    * You have no printers available will appear. Click Add
    * Select Epson USB in the contextual menu
    * Click on Stylus 820 to highlight
    * Add Page Setup: select All, from the contextual menu
    * Click Add

  • Belkin Print Server support for Epson Stylus photo R200

I have just installed a Belkin Wirless G adsl modem router, which works very well and I very satisfied with it. Along with this I purchased a Belkin Print server F1UP0001uk to drive my Epson stylus photo R200. While I can see my Print server and ping it satisfactoraly and it can see my printer. I can't get it to print.
Belkin tell me that I have to change the CUPS port from 515 to 9100 for print server port1 or 9101 for port2 on each machine I want to connect from.
    How do I do this?
    G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

What they are describing is the HP Jetdirect protocol on OS X, called raw/port 9100 printing on Windows. To use port 9100, in Printer Setup, select IP printer > HP JetDirect and it will work (9100 is the default port number). To use port 9101 requires the advanced method. In Printer Setup, after you click ADD, hold down the option key while clicking More Printers (you may need to pause a bit before the More Printers, because OS X is searching for Bonjour printers). At the bottom of the new menu, select Advanced, then select Appsocket/HP Jetdirect. Name it. Fill in the URI like:
    socket://[IPofserver]:9101

Found this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6170067 - near the bottom was "big ant" response (for an AL C1100). He has a 9-step process from Stepson, and it work fabulously. One suggestion - in the last step, you can choose which model driver, I advise selecting the second choice driver Epson Stylus Photo RX580 - Gutenprint v5.1.3. It adds better options for printing, especially for print quality options. I plan to try the solution on my office RX680 next.

After trying for weeks, I finally came up with a very simple workaround that allows me to print to the Stylus Pro 3800 wirelessly again. I don't know why I didn't try this before. All I did was change the way I connect the printer to the Airport Extreme Base Station from using USB to Ethernet. In the printer's front panel "Network Setup" menu I made sure that the Bonjour option was enabled.
After this, it was just a simple matter of adding the printer again from the Print Fax preference pane and everything worked!
So, if anyone else is having a similar problem, try using the Ethernet port on your printer instead of the USB one.
    Cheers
