Epson Stylus Photo R800 issues

I have just installed Mac OSX 10.5, Leopard on a G5 2.7Ghz DP tower (OSX 10.4.11, Tiger still on an alternate drive in the computer). I installed on a new drive and used Migration Assistant to move all my personal data and settings. I use an Epson Stylus Photo R800 inkjet printer.
I am not sure if I have an Epson or an OSX issue.
In Tiger I was able to select “Stylus Photo R800 (Manual Feed)” and “Stylus Photo R800 (Sheet Feeder – Borderless)” as additional printers to use for Print CD and printing true borderless 6”x4” photos, but in Leopard I cannot “find” these choices, neither can I find a way to “Add Printer” as I could in Tiger. I have looked for new drivers etc. and nothing helps. Using Epson’s Print CD selecting the “Print” pull-down menu to choose “Epson Print CD” brings up the “paper out or incorrect output tray position” message—the statement not being true.
What am I missing? I notice that the hierarchy, folders, files etc., appear vastly different in Tiger and Leopard and am afraid to “manually relocate” any items! Can anyone please show me or describe for me how to add these very necessary selections in Leopard?
Any expert help will be sincerely appreciated.
M

Thanks for your support-- you are correct Epson did not solve my problem. Over time, none of my several printing issues have been solved by Epson . Self-help and Forums have been my best solutions. Once Again I discovered the answer myself. The menu options have been moved around in Leopard compared to Tiger. In "EPSON PrintCD" you now go to Print..., choose Page Setup and unlike Tiger when you choose "US letter" under Paper Size, pulled down to US Letter, there is now a side menu that pops up and allows you to choose US letter(Manual Feed). This takes care of the CD printing problem. Though I haven't tried it as yet, I think that under this new "Paper Size" menu choosing "4x6 ( borderless)" will solve my borderless printing problem!
Sorry I can't shed any light on your particular issues

  • Print quality on Epson Stylus Photo R800

    Hi...
I'm using Lightroom 3.6 and an Epson Stylus Photo R800. This printer is capable of printing very high quality pictures, as I know by using it for almost 5 years.
I have bought Lightroom about 6 month ago. I have tried anything I can think off to get those fabulus pictures out of my Epson printer. I alterd color managment settings, changed print resolutions, downloaded new printerdriver, ... Nothing works. Print quality when printing from Lightroom is very poor. Bad colors (dark), stripes over the whole image, it looks like nothing realy.
One of the things that I noticed is that the maximum resolution for printing in LR is 720 ppi. My Epson is capable of 1550 ppi.
I see a lot of discussion going about print quality with lightroom... I think however this is a more basic problem. My print qualiti is realy very very bad...
Does anyone have similar problems or (even better) a hint to a solution?
    Note,
When I export a picture to .jpg format (I shoot in RAW only), and print this directly from Windows, I do get the perfect picture a was used to... I cannot believe that Lightroom is unable to do the same.
    Thanks!
    Erik.

  • QUESTION: problem printing to Epson Stylus Photo R800

with latest version of LR2.  When trying to print, certain options (print setting, color management, print option) in the print set-up dialog box are crossed out as unavailable "for the current architecture"  Is there a bug in LR program?  Work around or fix?  No such problem when printing to this printer in prior update of LR2.

My bad on the Pro part- the driver seems to be here:

"Removing printer from the list" refers to the Apple listing, the one you get when you hit print: you can choose a printer, choose to delete one, or choose to add one. This same dialog will allow you to add back the 'new' R800.

  • CS4 and Printing to an Epson Stylus Photo R800

I am printing to the above printer and using the Epson Luster Premium Paper. I still get confused about how to set the print settings in Photoshop. Do I choose the document/proof, do I let the printer or Photoshop control the printing, and in the printer dialog box, do I choose ICM/OFF?  Is there a clear set of instructions for consistent prints? I am trying to print B/W and took my PS file and used the Lab Lightness Channel technique to turn my color image into a BW. Should I being doing something to this image before trying to print? Flatten? Any help will be appreciated.
    Regards

    You're on the right track.
In the Photoshop print dialog, under color management, choose
    1. Document
    2. Photoshop Manages Color
    3. Under printer profile, pick the Epson-provided profile for the paper you want.
Then click "Print Settings" to open the Epson printer driver dialog. There you do two things:
    1. Choose the paper type (this is important as it controls the amount of ink)
    2. Choose ICM, and tick "Off". This turns off printer color management.
I don't have your Epson model, but AFAIK it works the same in all of them.

  • Epson Stylus Photo R2400 won't print large pages?

I recently upgraded to Mac OS X Leopard. I immediately had problems with printing to my Epson Stylus Photo R2400 as a print driver gutenprint had suddenly replace my Epson driver when going thu dialog to print. Called and Epson and they got me thru process of getting rid of the newly replaced gutenprint to an Epson driver. Problem is I can't print anything larger than an 8.5x11 page. The printer set up says and shows me that what I have set as an 11x17 or 13x19 is going to print. But all that prints on this large expensive paper is an area 8.5x8.5. No matter what I change in set up. Epson says they have done all they can do. (And I just found out last week they have replaced this printer with another printer). I have hundreds of dollars in newly purchased inks and I am wasting expensive paper.
Also I had to remove the patch for OS leopard to get the printer to work in this diminished capacity.
And my email signature disappeared. Can't get that back either.
But printer is my biggest problem. Any suggestions how to get this printer to work with this new OS leopard and print large sizes? I have deadlines and hate to outsource the printing when I could easily do it in house.

Well, you picked the very hardest way to do it, and as time goes on, you will probably discover many other things wrong with your system as well. You CANNOT go back to Tiger from Leopard via an archive and install; you have to wipe the drive and start over from scratch, and then transfer all your data over from a backup and reinstall most, if not all, of your applications so the right elements are in the right places. Even so you'll never get your system exactly back to where it was, unless you had a perfect bootable Tiger backup (via SuperDuper) and merely restored from that. Obviously whatever Leopard element that killed your printing capability is still on your frankenstein system of BOTH Tiger and Leopard parts.
There are hundreds of posts on the issue of reverting to Tiger from Leopard, many quite detailed. So many things are changed from upgrading from one to the other that what you attempted (unless you completely wiped the drive and all your data) has always proven disastrous, which is why I highly recommended against it after reading hundreds of horror stories here.
I suggest doing a search at downgrading from Leopard to Tiger, following those instructions if you can, and making the best of it. You'll find that springing the $200 for an external drive would have been a much better and easier solution, because it can come in very handy if you ever need to do any maintenance on your internal hard drive, or if some update or problems kill your internal drive and you can't even boot the system. Not to mention sooner or later always needing more storage capability, and even a drive for reliable backups.
I would never dream of attempting a downgrade or needing to do it in the first place (having taken precautions as to never have to), so I can't give you any further advice than that.

  • Can't print using Epson Stylus Photo R300

I am new to Mac ownership and have been having issues since updating to OS10.4.9. I have an Epson Stylus Photo R300 and have been using CUPS and Gimprint to print w/o a problem (OK, I had to call tech support and spent 10 hours getting it figured out) Now, for no reason my computer won't print again. I'm not sure what the issue is. Nothing has changed. I use a wireless print server connected to my wireless router. I've tried everything today. I'd removed all print drivers, CUPS and Gimprint and reinstalled. I've tried checking to see if the router has a different IP but nothing is working.
When I go to print the utility will spool the printing and then tell me the printer is busy and it will try again later.. then it times out. I've cleared the print history and jobs but still get the message. The only time I got anything close to printing was when I selected default browser, selected the wireless router but it chose Apple talk at the communication so I just got syntax stuff to print. Nothing in English.
So any help from ANYONE would be appreciative because Apple wasn't helpful when I called today.

Is there any reason why you're not using the standard Epson supported driver? It's available here

  • Epson Stylus Photo 1290 - how do I remove items from the print queue?

Description of problem with "Epson Stylus Photo 1290" Application:
After selecting Show Completed Jobs from the main menu (Jobs > Hide/Show Completed Jobs) I am presented with a status list of print jobs (a.k.a. "print queue") that are either marked as "Completed", "Cancelled", "On Hold", "Printing" etc. Each and every time I print an item it is added to this list.
I simply want to clear this list.
However, the application's "Delete" button appears to only transform a "Printing" job to a "Cancelled" job, for example.
So how on earth do I clear the old (and, to me, useless) jobs listed in this print queue?
I know this isn't apple software but seeking help on the EPSON sites (and the rest of the net) has led me nowhere.
Many many thanks in advance if anyone can suggest anything!
    My set-up:
    Hardware:
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,1
    Boot ROM Version: MBP51.007E.B05
    SMC Version (system): 1.33f8
    Running: OS X 10.5.8
Problem App: EPSON Stylus Photo 1290.app, version 6.0.3
    Queue name: EPSONStylus_Photo1290
    Host name: localhost
Driver version: 3.09 (confirmed as latest)
    URL: usb://EPSON/Stylus%20Photo%201290?serial=WORLL0112061542320
Have print log files been cleared: Yes (using MacPilot)
Have print preferences been trashed/reset: Yes (all that I could find)
When did this problem start: not sure, I first noticed it several months after first using it on my MBP 10.5.x

Hmmmm. Doesn't look like I can edit my post. Okay.......
Contrary to what I've said above, this IS an Apple issue as the problem lies in the Print Queue, which is part of the OS.
The "fix" is to go System Preferences > Print & Fax and then delete the 1290 from the list of printers.
When the 1290 printer is re-added its print queue is now empty AND the Delete button does as it is supposed to do - it deletes items from the queue list.
    Hooray!

  • FIX for EPSON Print CD V2.02 - EPSON Stylus Photo R200 - MAC OS 10.5.9

I thought I'd post this ridiculously long info sheet on what finally got my R200 to work with EPSON Print CD and 10.5.8 just in case it might help someone else BEFORE they spend days searching for a solution.
Check the printer driver information in System Preferences, Print & Fax. If it says anything other than EPSON SP R200 Series, you’ve likely located the problem. My system showed the Gutenprint v5.1.3 and /or CUPS/+GIMP... I originally replaced the Gutenprint driver file with the CUPS... file thinking this would solve the Gutenprint driver problem. But, as I continued to look into what was going on, I think I found out that both driver files are actually considered Gutenprint driver files.
    1. Select the hard drive where the operating system is located.
    2. Select Library/Printers.
    3. Select the Epson folder and delete it and then Empty Trash to make sure it’s gone.
    4. Select Library/Preferences.
    5. Select the Epson folder and delete any files that are there.
(Steps 4 & 5 might not be necessary, but I’m listing everything that I did.)
    6. In System Preferences, select Printers and Fax. Control click in listing area and select Reset Printers.
    7. Load the Leopard Installation CD and select Optional Installation.
    8. Select Printers and select Epson. This will reload the printer drivers for all the EPSON printers that are included on the install CD.
    9. Go back to the System Preferences, Printers and Fax window. Click on the + sign to add a printer.
    10. There will likely be a listing with Printer Name as EPSON Stylus Photo R200, Kind as USB.
    11. Click on an arrow in the Print Using: box and select EPSON SP R200 Series. The printer icon changed dramatically at this point, with a rainbow of colors on the document shown coming out of the printer.
Note: **Working within the Print & Fax app seems to be key to getting the settings corrected.** Someone else pointed out that they also found this necessary. However, I couldn’t get the proper “Print Using:” option to appear until I cleaned out the Library/Printers/Epson folder, “Reset Printers”, and reloaded the EPSON printer drivers from the Leopard installation CD.
I had previously done the “Reset Printers” and reloaded the printer files, but as was advised against in the post I mentioned, I selected the “More Printers” option. That’s where I found the EPSON Stylus Photo R200 listed with the CUPS+Gimp ... and the Gutenprint driver listing options. Selecting what appeared to be the Gutenprint alternate printer driver didn’t help at all. I’m not sure if the EPSON SP R200 driver file was missing from the original listing of printer drivers or if I just missed it. I certainly would have looked for it if I had known it was the one that’s needed.
    12. Open the EPSON Print CD V2.02 app. Although I had already installed the Easy Print update, I got a message saying that the application needed the update to work. So, I reinstalled the Easy Print update.
    13. After reinstalling the Easy Print update, I reselected Update Printer Information. Much to my amazement, I got a message and a progress indicator showing the Printer Information was being updated to reflect the EPSON Stylus Photo R200 printer.
    14. When the Update Printer Information process had completed, I clicked on Print and suddenly found that I was able to choose Select Printer and pick the EPSON Stylus Photo R200 and CD/DVD wondrously appeared in the Media Type.
After this point, all the other instructions that are provided from EPSON seemed to work just fine.
Hopefully, there’s enough information in here somewhere that people with other operating systems and printers might at least be able to get a clue . . .

I dug around on the Epson site and found this which seemed to address the exact problem so they obviously know about it. Unfortunately even these rather drastic steps failed to solve the issue for me.

  • Epson Stylus Photo RX680 with Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter 2 won't pair

This post describes my problem, but I couldn't reply since it has been archived:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7882399&#7882399
I am having the same issue with an Epson Stylus Photo RX680 and their Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter 2. I go to System Preferences -> Bluetooth -> Set Up New Device, click Continue, select Printer, and click Continue. At this point, the Bluetooth Setup Assistant sends me to the Print & Fax System Preferences window. I can add the printer under the Bluetooth heading. It finds the drivers and adds the printer to my printers list, but a test page (or anything else) won't print. The job is added to the queue, but it stops trying to print after a few seconds. If I go to the Bluetooth System Preferences, I can see the printer listed (for a while), and I notice that it is connected but not paired.
If I run the Bluetooth Setup Assistant and select Any Device instead of Printer, I see the printer in the list and can view the Passkey options. It is set to "Use a specific passkey", which is what I need. I have tried changing it to a different option and then changing it back, but it does not seem like this has an effect on how the printer is paired. I have never been asked for a passkey when attempting to add this printer, and I suspect that this is why I cannot print to it.
I have also tried enabling and disabling Bluetooth sharing, and this does not seem to have an effect, whether "require pairing" is checked or not. Isn't there some place where I can choose "Pair this device" once it has been discovered? I find it strange that I can connect to it but have no option to pair afterward (at least that I can find). To make the matter more complicated, the printer disappears from the device list in the Bluetooth System Preferences after about 30 seconds, so I have to remove the printer and reinstall it in order to see the it in the list again.
I am able to print to this printer using bluetooth from a Windows XP machine, so I don't think that there is a problem with the adapter. I am also able to print to this printer using USB, so I don't think that there is a driver problem. I believe (though I certainly could be wrong) that the issue is that the device is not paired. Can anybody help?
    Thank you.
    -Kyle

I was trying to find a way to use the Epson drivers because the Gutenprint drivers don't support duplexing or feeding out of the front tray on this printer, but at least this got bluetooth printing working. I downloaded the latest Gutenprint drivers (5.2.2), ran the uninstall program first to get rid of the old drivers, and then installed the new ones. I added the printer through the bluetooth heading in the Add Printer dialog, and I selected the RX680 Gutenprint driver (which was not available with the default OS X 10.5.5 installation). Once again, the printer showed up as connected but not paired in the Bluetooth System Preferences, and it disappeared from the device list after a few seconds, but printing works now. The print quality for this printer is much improved by the new drivers as well.
Bluetooth setup is mentioned in the user documentation. It's kind of a joke:
Macintosh computer: Double-click Bluetooth File Exchange in your Utilities folder and follow the on-screen instructions.
That's it. I have been disappointed with this printer on a number of occasions. If you are going to connect directly through USB, then it's probably fine. If you want to use any form of network connectivity, you had better be running Windows on any machine involved.
I'll talk with Epson support to see if I can get any further with their drivers. Since it's supposed to work, I'd like to see if I can get it to happen. Otherwise, I'll return the adapter and share the printer through a spare desktop.

  • Epson Stylus Photo 2200 RIP Software errors

I'm at my wit's end! For no apparent reason, I cannot print to my Epson Stylus Photo 2200 with my Stylus RIP Pro 2.0 PS server software from either of my 2 computers--I get the same problems from both computers. I have a Dual 1 GHz PowerPC G4 running Mac OS 10.4.7 and a new 2x2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon running 10.4.8. I'm trying to print from Illustrator CS2. Several different things are happening when I print the job.
    a) It sends the print job to print far too quickly. Sometimes it times out and never even appears in the 127.0.0.1 window, and doesn't send it to the RIP. The job simply disappears. When it does send to the printer, it stops the job, putting it on hold and when I click start jobs, it promptly stops it again and this repeats itself going nowhere.
I gave up, unplugged it, disconnected the USB, plugged it all back in, repaired permissions to both computers, restarted and then tried to print again and then:
    b) In the printer list the job shows up as first printing to the RIP (127.0.0.1) for a few seconds, then it quickly bounces to the next printer on my list, an HP laser jet???!!!
I've uninstalled and reinstalled both the RIP software and the 2200 in printer setup utility and on both systems. All the files I'm trying to print will print directly to the 2200, just not through the RIP software, so I know it's communicating. The files will all print to my other printers as well, but I need to print them to the 2200 with the RIP for best quality.
When I launch the RIP software, sometimes--but not every time--I immediately get a PS server error that says: EPSONLPRService EPSONLPRService error. This happens on both computers. I have received no help from Epson whatsoever. I run a business and I must print this job. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!!!

Thnx for the reply. I think I have a better understanding of your setup. I was thinking that you had a physical RIP, rather than it being software. That would explain why you are using the loopback address to view the spool area of the RIP.
However, could you confirm some more. Is the Epson physically connected to one Mac via USB or is it network with its own IP address?
You also mention in your original post a HP printer jobs were switching to. Is this an Ethernet or USB printer?
The reason I ask is that I was thinking that if they were both networked then there may be an addressing issue. As a test I would change the RIP software so that only the Epson printer is spooled to.
I would also only print from TextEdit. The CS2 suite is not an ideal test app, unless it is only the suite you are having trouble printing from.
I know that you have already performed a repair permissions, but I would do it after booting from the OS X disc. I'm guessing the RIP software acts as a service and starts on boot. If you boot from the disc, the service won't have started and therefore it will respond to any attempt by the system to repair it.
The other thing I would try is downloading the full 10.4.8 Combo updater for Intel and PPC and run this on both Mac's respectively.
Also, check that you have correct queue names for the LPD queue. This can cause jobs to behave as you mention. Better still, see if the software supports some other protocol such as Raw (Port 9100). If it does then you can connect using the HP Jet Direct-Socket to see if that works.

  • Epson Stylus Photo R-3000

I am using Photoshop CS5 on Mac OS 10.9.5. My printing on Epson Stylus Photo R3000 is always comes out too dark.  I'm sure I have my setting right and have tried lots of variations (embeded colors vs. color managed, etc.)  None of that makes much difference compared to the overall dark cloud that masks my photos.  Epson says it is a know Mac - Adobe issue and to contact them for a fix.

This is not a known issue with any Adobe products.
But Epson has had a lot of problems with their drivers in MacOS 10.9.

  • Borderless printing, Epson stylus photo 820

Ok, I'm trying to print this: http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cover_id=1716
On an Epson Stylus Photo 820. I know this printer can do borderless prints, I just can't figure out how. Is this a driver issue or something? Is borderless printing on this printer a PC only feature? Am I missing something entirely?
    Thanks for any help!

I don't have experience with the Stylus Photo 820, but I do have a Stylus Photo 890 and unfortunately borderless printing is not possible in OS X, even with the latest drivers. I went round and round with this with Epson Tech Support, who kept sending me suggestions that didn't work and finally they admitted that it was just not possible. I doubt that Epson will further update the drivers for these rather elderly printers.

  • Epson Stylus Photo R1800 on Linksys Printer server

hi, I'm currently running Tiger 10.4.11 on my power book G4 and trying to connect to a network printer on a Linksys Print Server (PSUS4). The printer connected to the server is an Epson Stylus Photo R1800.
I'm able to print perfectly from my computer via USB direct, but when I try to find the printer as a network printer I can't locate it.
The print utilities finds the location of printer from the Linksys server, but none of my drivers are coming up that are compatible to the printer when it finds it like that.
When the printer is turned on the print browser cannot find it at all, but when it's turned off the browser comes up with the name Linsys gave it to be discovered. It says it's connected via AppleTalk, but when I click on it to try to add the driver doesn't come up. BUT it's the correct driver when I connect manually.
What am I doing wrong? I was on the phone with tech support for an hour and 24 minutes only to be told (when transferred to a specialist) that they aren't trained for this kind of thing, neither is Linksys (who I spoke to for 30 minutes). I read the thread on the similar issue to this and don't think that it's a driver issue, but a print server issue, what do you think??
    thanks for any help.
    -melissa

Driver issue - the driver provided by Epson was written for USB only (well, maybe Firewire too for the 1800). You will have to use either the Gutenprint driver or the printfab driver for network printing:
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3
    http://www.printfab.net
Sounds like your print server will work via appletalk -- but, if you want to try IP printing, don't forget to enter the correct queue name for the LPD and IPP protocols.

  • Epson Stylus Photo R280 and Airport Express

    Hello All,
My HP Deskjet recently failed, so I tried to connect my Epson Stylus Photo R280 to my Airport Express to allow everyone to print to it, however, I can't seem to get it to work over AirPort. It always fails out saying "communication error", and works just fine hard-wired through USB. Has anyone been able to get this printer to work with this base station, or have any pointers on how to get this printer to work? Am I missing something?
    Thanks!

I am having the same problem with the SP R320. it's driving me crazy. Was working fine wirelessly for over a year, then suddenly a week ago just stopped. Bonjour sees it just fine- just doesn't print. Says "connecting" forever, but never does anything. and it prints fine via USB. I have posted all over about it, but have gotten no answers. Seems like lots of people are having wireless problems with all sorts of types of printers, so I think it's an apple issue, not an epson issue. I just wish someone would post anything helpful! Where's DrSmoke when we need him!
Found a workaround using a gimp driver, but it's less than ideal.
