Epson Stylus Pro 3800 - reporting an issue

I have an Epson Stylus Pro 3800 connected via Ethernet which is recognized by Bonjour.
When I tried to add this printer, the driver was not recognized as I was presented with "Select Driver to Use" for "Print Using".
I then went to the Epson support page and found Printer Driver v3.5cE which has Mac OS X (v10.5 - 10.5.x) listed. After downloading and installing, I am presented with "EPSON SPro 3800" for "Print Using" but when I "Add" the printer, I get the following error message "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Error: -9672"
I am testing this out on my Powerbook G4 before I actually install Leopard on my production machine.

After uninstalling the Epson driver, installing the Epson drivers (1.5GB) from the Optional Install package (which didn't contain the driver for the 3800 but you can't know until after you've installed the optional drivers), and reinstalling the downloaded 3.5cE driver, I was still given the error.
Bonjour doesn't work, but IP does. By selecting More Printers and then selecting Epson TCP/IP, the printer showed up in the list and I was able to add it to my list of printers without the error. The Supplies button in the Printer Queue window doesn't work but Epson's utility can access the printer and get the ink levels, etc as usual.
It appears to be a CUPS bug. In the cups/access_log, I noticed the following lines while trying to add the Epson printer:
localhost - - 27/Oct/2007:16:46:57 +0800 "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 75 CUPS-Get-Default client-error-not-found
I have just printed a high-res photo on the printer, a photo I printed using the same printer/sharpening/settings/etc only a week ago. I compared the two photos and there are no discernible differences. My Epson is accessible and working

  • Printing to my Epson Stylus Pro 3800 (Grr...)

    Hi All,
I'm a fairly recent convert from Windows and I LOVE my Mac for everything EXCEPT printing to my 3800.
I have always had a problem with my Epson Stylus Pro 3800 printer on my Mac. The two just don't seem to get along. I've wasted countless pages of expensive paper and what seems like gallons of ink trying to resolve this issue, but I'm getting nowhere. I've ruled out physical problems with the printer - it works flawlessly on the three PC's I've connected to it (via usb).
Until this evening I was using the Epson drivers for this printer. They were flakey at best. I would get random 'communication errors' that could happen at any time during a print - start, end, somewhere in between or, if I was lucky, not at all. Having had enough I went looking for a solution (again) online tonight and stumbled across Gutenprint 5.2.6.
I've been able to install the drivers successfully by following the documentation but I can't get the printer to print via USB or IPP. Using usb, I get a message in the print queue 'backend USB Failed' and the printer goes into a Paused state. Using IPP the print job apprers to spool and queue reads 'Connecting to printer... ' for a while then returns with 'Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds..'.
I believe the IPP is failing because the print queue options in the Gutenprint setup. The install says to leave Queue blank for the default queue. I tried that - it didn't print.
I browsed to the embedded 'EpsonNet Config' page in the printer and named what they call 'printer name' as printer. I presume that's the queue that the gutenprint driver wants, but I still get the same result.
When I look at EpsonNet Config, the IPP URL is http://192.168.9.166:631/printer.
When I look at the Printer Setup on the Mac, I see
    Queue Name: 192_168_0166
    Driver Version: 5.2.6
    URL: ipp://192.168.0.166/printer
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm frustrated beyond belief with this problem and really could use some help using either the Epson drivers or Gutenprint drivers - I just want some consistent output.
Thanks in advance for any clues you may be able to offer.

I have been using an Epson 3800 with my I Mac for four years and up untill I upgraded to OSX Lion the only problem I had was colour issues associated with some ICC profiles. After upgrading to Lion and downloading the latest OSX update (10th May) I could not print.
One of the problms was that the print settings continuously defaulted to:
    Page Setup: Sheet Feeder
Media Type: Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster
I would change the settings to what I wanted, I saved them selected Print. My printer promptly started changing from Matte ink (what I had set my print setting s for) to Photo Black.
After trying all i could to correct this. I finally gave up and rang the Epson Helpline. After 3 telephone calls over a day and a half during which I was talked through the procedure you described, the problems were still not resolved.
My contact on the Epson Helpline then tried to simulate the problem on his MAC. He discovered that he had the same problem the print settings would not save, albeit on a Epson 3880 driver. He then advised me that the problem was not with thw Epson Drivers it was a MAC/Apple problem.
I then rang the Apple Helpline (at £1.35 a minute) described the problem and was eventually put through to a supervisor. Who asked me to send her a set of screen shots describing the problem, This I have done, I have received an acknowledgement of receipt and have been advised that I should get a response within two working days.
    I am waiting hopefully.
I have tried to print both via CS5 and Aperture the problem is the same in both instances.

  • Photoshop CS6 on a Mac using an Epson Stylus PRO 3800 printer.

Installed Photoshop CS6 on a Mac Version 10.9.4. Installed an Epson Stylus PRO 3800 printer. When I try to print through Photoshop the dialogue box won't give the option to color manage. I followed the link suggested in the print dialogue box but that was for CS5 and said it will only work with TIFF files. I work with .psd files. I downloaded it but my Mac will not let me open it. Any help would be most appreciated. Mary Ellen

From Chris Cox: If you choose "Photoshop manages color", then Photoshop is managing the color and the printer driver is supposed to disable it's color controls (and let Photoshop manage the color).
If Photoshop is managing the color, then there is nothing else for the printer driver to do - so it grays out it's own color controls because they don't apply while Photoshop is managing the color.

  • Epson Stylus Pro 3800 - Prints too dark.

I had a Hewlett - Packard pigment ink printer and until it bit the dust, it printed very accurate, beautiful and to the display prints. I have a cheap Canon printer that puts out prints that can match the display too. I just purchased a new Epson Stylus 3800 printer and my prints are much too dark, too much contrast and ever so slightly posterized.
I am using Photoshop CS2. I have checked and I believe the drivers on my printer are current. I have tried letting the printer determine colors as well as letting Photoshop determine colors and turning off the printer controls in the print setting dialogue. The prints are OK - ish, but just not what's on screen and not what I want them to be. My screen is calibrated well enough. It is not paramount that my prints be totally and completely like the display but close.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you one and all for all of this valuable advice. I have a professional coming in to tutor me. I know I can love this printer and want it to work for me as it works for some of you.
Ralph: The 3800 IS set as my default printer. I think I have the most recent drivers but am not positive because I can't find the driver folder to check the version. I know . . . . please bear with me, I try very hard. I have crashed three computers (crashed to the point of needing to be reformatted) and have learned the hard way, be careful when you download.
I used the in house (display calibration device) to calibrate my monitor. I feel it will do well enough for what I want to accomplish. The white point is set at 6000 and I set the tgarget gamma at 2.2 because I found the Mac Standard 1.8 made the display too bright.
My step by step printing settings are pretty basic: I use the embedded profile on one it is sRGBIEC61966-2.1 and on the other it is Duotone. Print With Preview, Let Photoshop Determine Colors, Black Point Compensation checked, and Rendering Intent set to Relative Colormetric. In the Printer Profile: I use the profile I downloaded from the paper's site OR an Epson profile. In the printer driver dialogue I make sure the 3800 is the chosen. Printer Color Management: I check the radio button for Off (No Color Adjustment) In the Print Settings dialogue (I have tried many with the same results.) The closest I came to what I wanted is when I used the front manuel feeder setting, with Velvet Fine Art Paper and checked Advanced Setting, Superfine - 2880 dpi and unchecked High Speed.
For the Let Printer Determine Colors I used Relative Colormetric. In the Printer Color Management I checked Color Controls. In Print Settings I used the same as above, Velvet Fine, Advanced and 2880dpi with High Speed off. The results were similar to the Photoshop settings but both were still too dark with very faint posterization in the gradients.
I have tried many combinations and I always go back to be sure, if I am letting Photoshop do the colors, to check and see if Off (No Color Adjustment) is still checked.
Jeff: Again to all and to you Jeff, thank you for your input. I AM trying but it's difficult. Around here there aren't many with the kind of expertise you have and so I have tried to learn this on my own. All I want to do is print my things. Just get the printer to do my things . . . . one good print at a time.
Sorry this is so long. I am going to get booted now. My server is going off-line to do upgrades. I am receiving my internet through low frequency microwaves and the little start up wants to make it better.
Thank you all for this helpful advice. I will now try to digest it.
    Mary Ellen
If anyone knows were I can find the driver folder (exactly) I will look for it. When I open the Epson Utility it says Epson Printer Utility2 3.57 . . . . when I go to the Epson download site it says the version of the driver offered is 3.57 and so I think that I've got the right version.

  • Epson Stylus Pro 3800 communication error - Help!!

    Hi All,
I have an Epson SP3800 printer connected via USB directly to my i5 iMac with running OS X 10.6.4 with 8GB of ram and a ton of free disk space.  I am getting intermittent communications errors, seemingly at random.
I can print several prints successfully, but then receive a communication error at the start of a print, at the end of a print or anyplace in between.  I'm wasting far too much ink an paper to let this go unresolved.  Not to mention the frustration factor watching an A4 print be 95% complete when the error appears.
I've scoured the web looking for a solution but I can't seem to resolve this on my own.  I'm grateful for any help you can offer trying to fix this most frustrating (and expensive) issue.
    Cheers,
    Ken

After uninstalling the Epson driver, installing the Epson drivers (1.5GB) from the Optional Install package (which didn't contain the driver for the 3800 but you can't know until after you've installed the optional drivers), and reinstalling the downloaded 3.5cE driver, I was still given the error.

  • Epson stylus pro 3800 will not print via ethernet port

Recently I set up a sling box utilizing my Apple Extreme's singular ethernet port. In order to free up the port for the slingbox I removed the epson printer and directly connected it to my Imac through its ehternet port. I print all my photos from this Mac so i do not need the network accessibility. The Imac does not show the printer at all but does continue to communicate with the wireless usb printer, a Brother. The question i have is how can i get my Mac to recognize the Epson through the ethernet port?

As you probably have noticed this is way out of the range of my apple-knowledge:
Where can I find the coupps-folder?
And how can I reinstall them?
    The Printer Setup Repair says:
2 missing files/directories found during the verification process. They may be responsible for certain printing problems. Printer Setup Repair cannot replace these items. Please refer to the log file for a list of the missing files/directories. You may need to reinstall OS X to resolve your printing issues. Certain files and directories are deleted when using the Reset Printing System option. These files and directories, if required, will be recreated during normal printing.
I really don't want to reinstall OS X.
By the way, thank you very much for your help.

  • Epson Stylus Pro 3800 afraid of Mountain Lion.

Having followed all the advice in previous discussions: Downloaded latest OS X updates; and downloaded Epson V9.04; removed all Epson software; reset printer system; (not in that order, of course) ...I still am no nearer to getting control of my printer. If you own an Epson 3800 you'll know how miserable it is to watch it default to PHOTO BLACK  when you don't print photo's - ever. It takes ages and costs a fortune in ejected ink.
I've spent eight hours on this (this time) - could anyone offer me the vital piece of info I seem to have missed.
    Thanks very much.

    Hi BDAqua,
    Thanks for answering my post:
The Apps I use most for printing are Photoshop and Open Office. Your reply goes to the heart of the problem - if there were options for Paper Type my printer would default to Matt Black or Photo Black depending on the choice made. I just went to show you a screen shot of the print dialogue for the Word Processing App 'Open Office' and absent-mindedly touched the Printer icon on that app, with that the printer began the long process of changing to PHOTO BLACK ink ...I nearly chucked it out of the window!!
This is what I get in Photoshop:
    Selecting page Setup offers:
    More options offers this:
    Any thoughts?

  • Epson Stylus Pro 3800 printing problem

I have run the software update today and my iMac shows 10.6.2 now. After the upgrade my Epson printer stopped working. I was still printing photos yesterday before the software update. I got this message:
    Library not loaded: /Library/Printers/EPSON/CIOSupport/CIOSupport.framework/Versions/A/CIOSupport
    Referenced from: /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/Filter/rastertoescp.app/Contents/MacOS/ra stertoescp
    Reason: image not found
I have already uninstalled the printer drive software, delete the printer in system references, rebooted the computer. Then I installed the printer driver from scratch and added the printer in system references but still not working. Please advise.
    Thank,
    Edmond.

I have a 24" iMac connected to a USB hub and an AT&T 2-Wire DSL/ethernet hub. When I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and now the update 10.6.2, the two printers on the USB hub work fine but the HP Laserjet 4100dtn does not print. This old printer has only ethernet or serial ports. I've downloaded and installed the HP driver updates from Apple and HP to no avail. According to HP, I must add the 4100 manually using its IP. I've followed the instructions while adding a printer to select IP- HP Jetdirect - Socket. The address of the printer is 10.0.1.100. When I type this in, the window says that this is a valid and complete address. It searches and then says the "Print Using:" is a Generic PostScript Printer. The driver for this printer, I believe, should be "HP LaserJet 4100 Series v.3010.107" Regardless, when I click Add the window "Determining Installable Options" shows "Status: Connecting to printer..." It never establishes a connection.
The 2-Wire DSL/Ethernet Hub/Modem, has an IP of 192.1687.1.66, Submask 255.255.255.0 and Router (DNS) 192.168.1.254.
If I plug the ethernet cable directly from the printer to the iMac, the supply level shows correctly but will not print. If I plug the ethernet cable from the printer to the 2-Wire and then to the iMac, it neither shows supply level nor prints.
Any suggestion as to how to fix this problem? (I've been on the phone with 3 different Apple respresentatives and 1 HP representative with no success.)

  • Epson Stylus Pro 4000 - Printing issues

I am having trouble printing from Photoshop to my Epson stylus pro 4000.  Specifically, I am not able to access choices other than plain paper, tracing paper and line paper for printing my images.  The following are some screen shots of what I see.  Does anyone out there know why this is happening and if there is some setting/compatibility issue.  I would really appreciate any insights and tips for a solution.  I noticed the problem when I started using CS5. I have also downloaded the most updated driver for the Epson and that didn't seem to do anything. Thanks!

I asume that you have updated the Epson printer driver via the Apple Updater? I had the same problem with my R1900. I suggest that you look at G Ballard's website. You will need to remove the Epson folder from your Library/Printer folder and from Print/Fax in System Preferences and re-install using the driver from the Epson Support webpage.
    http://www.gballard.net/photoshop/epson/cs5/
Having followed the above: my system is now working as it should.

  • Epson Stylus Pro 9800 errors on 32-bit Windows 7 with Adobe CS4

Epson Stylus Pro 9800 errors on 32-bit Windows 7 with Adobe CS4
Question: We are experiencing some major errors with printing to our Epson Stylus 9800 Pro. Some of our large files are spooling about 16K, then crashing Photoshop. Sometimes we are getting partial prints (the left most 3-4 inches of print, or the file starting to print about 1/2 way into the file itself), sometimes it just spools for a few minutes, then stops, with nothing coming from the printer at all.
At Epson's request, we have tried the following:
    reinstalling Windows 7 print driver
    Reinstalling Adobe CS 4
    Installed NEW NIC in printer
Installed new network line to printer
Installed new main board on printer
Printed from a PC directly connected to printer via USB and crossover cable
This issue is very bizarre in that it is random and sporatic. Same file will cause one of the above errors, then, another attempt to print same file will be successful. We have several Windows 7 machines that get the issue, while several Windows XP machines are fine. Epson instructed us to install the newest (win7) driver on the XP machines, issue then affects XP machines. Uninstalling new driver and re-installing old driver on XP machines resolves issue on XP machines.
Is this an issue with the Epson driver? CS4 on Windows 7? Or some other malady?
