Epson V500 Photo
I bought an Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner and want to install it on my MacBook Pro. The paperwork that came with the scanner says, "Do not insert your Epson product CD. Go to Epson support site ... I did that. The website infomration said::
The CD packaged with your Epson product contains optional software to enhance your printing and scanning experience.
The optional Epson software is compatible with your new operating system, however, some of the optional non-Epson software may not be. We recommend contacting the software company directly or visit their website, using the links below, for compatibility information before installing their software.
Note: Optional software varies by model.

I see Adobe on the list. I have Adobe Photoshop CS6 on my Mac, but it was installed recently. I have not used it yet.
May I install the Epson scanner? Do i need to install the Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 that came with the scanner?
The safest thing to do in these cases is to get the latest software from the website itself, in case it's more recent than the software on the CD. Go to this page:
EPSON Perfection V500 Photo Scanner Drivers & Downloads
There's a long list of software there that claims to be compatible with the latest versions of OS X. Epson isn't very good at telling you which ones are important. You should install them all, but the most important ones are the Scanner Driver and EPSON Scan Utility so that you can do scans (this might also let you scan from inside Photoshop, I'm not sure), and the ICA Scanner Driver v5.3.0 for Image Capture (this lets you scan using the Apple Image Capture utility).
I don't think you have to install Photoshop Elements. The only reason to be concerned about a compatibility issue is if you wanted to scan from inside Photoshop CS6 itself. If you scan using a separate utility, as long as it saves standard formats like TIFF, PSD, or JPEG you will be able to open those scans in Photoshop CS6. So whether or not the scanning software is directly compatible with Photoshop CS6, you can still scan using the Epson or Apple utilities and open the saved scans in Photoshop CS6.

Epson V500 Photo scanner wireless connection
I would like to make a wireless connection to my Epson V500 (Photo) scanner to my MacBook Pro running Mavericks. It is unclear if this is possible from the Epson side and on the MacBook Pro side the Scanner doesn't show up under Preferences>Sharing or Preferences>Printers & Scanners BUT I can scan from the laptop if connected by USB cable.
Questions:
A. Can the Epson V500 (Photo) be accessed wirelessly?
B. If yes to above, how do I set this up on the MacBook?

I ran into a similar problem (loss of functionality) with an Epson 7600. I traced my problem to letting software update substitute its Epson drivers for what Epson had originally provided for the printer. It got worse when installing Lion. Fortunately, I expected that problem so I applied the updates to clones of the working installation, using both more recent Epson software for their long-abandoned printer and what came down with software update. Testing the clones showed me that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" so I stayed with the old installation, updating only the system software to 10.6.8.
You may face a further issue in that the working Epson software may have been at least partially written in code meant to run on a PPC Mac, not Intel, and Apple removed all support for that when moving from 10.6 to 10.7. That may be why Epson shows printer driver support only through 10.6 on its website.
One of the beauties of the Mac Pro is that you can have multiple HD drives with multiple partitions so there's plenty of room to do tests like that. But it really shouldn't be necessary... -
I installed the new Yosemite operating system even though I was afraid something bad would happen. Well. it did. I can no longer scan photos using my photo scanner. I have updated all the drivers and it is still not working. I have an Epson Perfection V500 photo scanner, as well as an Epson WorkForce 845 all-in-one scanner, printer, copier. The 845 is on the network. The V500 is connected to my computer. For some reason, I keep getting the error that my V500 is not connected and when I try to add it, my mac does not find it. I know it is there. It was working before I upgraded. Help
You may have already done so, but if not...
Try a different USB cable.
Reboot your computer
Launch Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder) and Repair Disk Permission
in the left pane, click once on the name of your hard disk
in the right pane, click on the First Aid tab near the top
under the blank window, click the button "Repair Disk Permissions."
Afterward, click the "verify disk" button and it will check your hard disk.
Now, try your scanner... -
Epson scan crashes down perfection v500 photo
Hi
I just bought a new Epson perfection v500 photo scanner.
I installed the software. I can open Epson Scan, but when I want to scan it crashes immediately.
I made some research, I installed the new pilot from mac and epson.
I downloaded the lastest version available on Epson web page.

It is the same systematic problem every time even after several updates.
I know I can use image capture, but it doesn't let me use the ICE technology... which is frustrating.
So either there is a solution either image capture integrate ICE technology in the software.

After upgrading to Mavericks I find that the Epson Scan software will no longer run so I cannot now use my Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner. Is there a solution to this? If not can I delete Mavericks and go back to Mountain Lion?

Epson is working on new drivers / software for this scanner.
Until then, you can perform basic scanning from Image Capture.
Or go for 3rd party app. like vuescan.

I have scanned photos using an Epson V500 scanner set to scan using jpeg format at the highest quality (least compression) setting. When I try to import the scanned jpegs into iPhoto, I get an error message from iPhoto saying "The file is an unrecognized format." But if I reduce the quality setting on the Epson scanner to just slightly below highest quality, the images import into iPhoto just fine. Why won't iPhoto accept jpegs scanned at the highest quality setting? Wondering?
What scanner format settings dis you use? Are these color photos? If they are B/W did you scan as grayscale images? That could be the problem.
Are you able to open them with Preview? If so do a Save As, select full quality and save as a jpeg with a new file name. See if that file will import and work as intended.

Need scanner App for Dock. I have Maverick 10.9.5 and Epson Perfection V500 photo. My present app 3.7.1 won't work. Otherwise I have to go into System Preferences every time I scan to Select to switch from the Printer. Thanks for help.
You might give VueScan a try. It should work with your scanner. There's a demo version that you can use initially.

SCANNER UPDATES FOR EPSON v500 not available for maverick?
OK - I updated to MAverick and have no scanner. You know, the little white circle with the line through it, indicating that the woftware and drivers will not work on Maverick. So, I went to Epson (I have Epson perfection v500 photo scanner), and they direct me to Apple Software Update at Apple Store. The Apple Store has no update for the epson. And, in an article, says that third party software need be gotten from the maker. so, how do I update. anyone know? Since apple insists that all updates go through apple store, they should be up to date on everything as they try to corner this market. a little upset.

Has actually been removed from the Epson sites.
Only the old drivers and the ICA Scanner driver (very limited and thus with poor performance) remained.
I think Epson is only interested in selling new stuff (look at the questionnaire they ask you to fill in when you visit their sites).
But the question remains: what to do with my precious EPSON PERFECTION V700 PHOTO scanner?
Buy a cheap WINDOWS machine and tranfer the results to my iMAC?
Weird, but in the given circumstances maybe the only workable fast solution with guaranteed results. -
Which scanner, Epson V500 or Canon CS8800F?
Thanks to all of the fine people on this forum, I have now narrowed my choice of scanners to one of two.
I have had my MacPro tower dual quad 8 for about two weeks. I have been a PC'er for more years than I care to think, but have now decided to concentrate on my photography and writing.
I want to scan in photos, and occasionally use OCR so I may scan in text (this might include scanning in documents that include text and graphics). I may want to scan slides, although I haven't done this before. With this in mind, and one other concern, the distance from my CPU to the scanner which will require 16' of USB 2.0 cable, and I read someplace that some scanners don't work if the USB cable is too long.
I have looked at both of the above scanners (Epson V500 and Canon CS8800F) and they seem to be similar, and am in a quandary about which way to go. Are there any of you out there that had the same problem, but were able to make a decision based on a particular, or group of things that made the decision easier?
I am running Leopard, but will upgrade to Snow Leopard when it comes out this September, would this be an issue with either one of these scanners?

I researched on Amazon. I filtered the user reviews for Mac and obtained 31. Almost all reviews give high marks to the CS8800F.
There is a comprehensive review by T Meerloo "tmpix" (review #4 after filtering) dated 13 Apr 2008. Another good one by William Hatting "tech junki" (review #22) dated 2 Aug 2008.
Waldemar C Weber's comments dated 18 Sep 2008 (review #6) explains that there are 3 approaches to controlling scanner: via button on unit itself, using MP Navigator XP, and using Arcsoft Photostudio.
Annette M Fillion "annette" (review #29) explains 17 Aug 2009 that 2 or 3 extra steps are required to pass control from Photoshop to iPhoto.
Itsmeagain! (review #24) alerts us that scanner glass is made of optical grade plastic and that ammonia-based glass cleaner may damage it. The person searched on internet "cleaning scanner glass" for proper instructions.

Print quality on Epson Stylus Photo R800
Hi...
I'm using Lightroom 3.6 and an Epson Stylus Photo R800. This printer is capable of printing very high quality pictures, as I know by using it for almost 5 years.
I have bought Lightroom about 6 month ago. I have tried anything I can think off to get those fabulus pictures out of my Epson printer. I alterd color managment settings, changed print resolutions, downloaded new printerdriver, ... Nothing works. Print quality when printing from Lightroom is very poor. Bad colors (dark), stripes over the whole image, it looks like nothing realy.
One of the things that I noticed is that the maximum resolution for printing in LR is 720 ppi. My Epson is capable of 1550 ppi.
I see a lot of discussion going about print quality with lightroom... I think however this is a more basic problem. My print qualiti is realy very very bad...
Does anyone have similar problems or (even better) a hint to a solution?

When I export a picture to .jpg format (I shoot in RAW only), and print this directly from Windows, I do get the perfect picture a was used to... I cannot believe that Lightroom is unable to do the same.

How can I remove vertical lines when printing from Aperture 3.2.2 to Epson Stylus Photo RX690?
I have been generally quite happy with my access to and use of Aperture 3.2.2 (recently purchased) for import and manipulation of photos and movies, etc.I am using Aperture on a MacBook Pro OSX 10.6.8.
However I have been unable to print high quality images on Epson premium glossy, glossy or matt paper on my Epson Stylus Photo RX690.
High quality prints on screen show perfectly in preview, but all prints come out with good and accurate colours, but a series of vertical lines or bands of lines across the photo print.
Using the Aperture Manual I have checked my settings in Aperture for the printer, for colour and quality of paper etc and they all seem to be correct.
The Epson Printer is networked with a Toshiba (Vista) laptop which prints perfect results from Picasa and Photoshop with fine colour and no markings.
I would appreciate any help please.

Epson Stylus Photo R320 Won't show in OS 9.2.2 Chooser
I just purchased an Epson Stylus Photo R320, primarily to print on CDs and DVDs. This fancy new inkjet replaced my dependable Epson C-86. My problem is that after installing the Epson printing software on my G5 2.0, I can print, as usual, great in 10.4.5, but now, not in OS9.2.2 anymore. The R320 icon shows up in the left side of the Chooser, but when I select it, nothing shows up on the right side. I really don't want to go back to my C-86 since it doesn't print on CD/DVD media and I still use some old OS9 software that still works great but now won't print. I've done all the little things one might expect (i.e., throw away prefs, reinstall OSX and OS9, reinstall only OS9, permissions, etc.) but to no avail. I even reinstalled the OSX software. Nothing.
Any thoughts on this?Hello 64M,

Epson Stylus Photo R2400 won't print large pages?
I recently upgraded to Mac OS X Leopard. I immediately had problems with printing to my Epson Stylus Photo R2400 as a print driver gutenprint had suddenly replace my Epson driver when going thu dialog to print. Called and Epson and they got me thru process of getting rid of the newly replaced gutenprint to an Epson driver. Problem is I can't print anything larger than an 8.5x11 page. The printer set up says and shows me that what I have set as an 11x17 or 13x19 is going to print. But all that prints on this large expensive paper is an area 8.5x8.5. No matter what I change in set up. Epson says they have done all they can do. (And I just found out last week they have replaced this printer with another printer). I have hundreds of dollars in newly purchased inks and I am wasting expensive paper.
Also I had to remove the patch for OS leopard to get the printer to work in this diminished capacity.
And my email signature disappeared. Can't get that back either.
But printer is my biggest problem. Any suggestions how to get this printer to work with this new OS leopard and print large sizes? I have deadlines and hate to outsource the printing when I could easily do it in house.Well, you picked the very hardest way to do it, and as time goes on, you will probably discover many other things wrong with your system as well. You CANNOT go back to Tiger from Leopard via an archive and install; you have to wipe the drive and start over from scratch, and then transfer all your data over from a backup and reinstall most, if not all, of your applications so the right elements are in the right places. Even so you'll never get your system exactly back to where it was, unless you had a perfect bootable Tiger backup (via SuperDuper) and merely restored from that. Obviously whatever Leopard element that killed your printing capability is still on your frankenstein system of BOTH Tiger and Leopard parts.
There are hundreds of posts on the issue of reverting to Tiger from Leopard, many quite detailed. So many things are changed from upgrading from one to the other that what you attempted (unless you completely wiped the drive and all your data) has always proven disastrous, which is why I highly recommended against it after reading hundreds of horror stories here.
I suggest doing a search at downgrading from Leopard to Tiger, following those instructions if you can, and making the best of it. You'll find that springing the $200 for an external drive would have been a much better and easier solution, because it can come in very handy if you ever need to do any maintenance on your internal hard drive, or if some update or problems kill your internal drive and you can't even boot the system. Not to mention sooner or later always needing more storage capability, and even a drive for reliable backups.
I would never dream of attempting a downgrade or needing to do it in the first place (having taken precautions as to never have to), so I can't give you any further advice than that. -
After the driver update 2.7 released by Apple I can not print on my Epson Stylus Photo RX650. Epson tells me it is apple's fault.

The driver update 2.7 was released by Apple. The driver released by Epson is available for download from the Epson Australia web site. Can't print using Epson Stylus Photo R300
I am new to Mac ownership and have been having issues since updating to OS10.4.9. I have an Epson Stylus Photo R300 and have been using CUPS and Gimprint to print w/o a problem (OK, I had to call tech support and spent 10 hours getting it figured out) Now, for no reason my computer won't print again. I'm not sure what the issue is. Nothing has changed. I use a wireless print server connected to my wireless router. I've tried everything today. I'd removed all print drivers, CUPS and Gimprint and reinstalled. I've tried checking to see if the router has a different IP but nothing is working.
When I go to print the utility will spool the printing and then tell me the printer is busy and it will try again later.. then it times out. I've cleared the print history and jobs but still get the message. The only time I got anything close to printing was when I selected default browser, selected the wireless router but it chose Apple talk at the communication so I just got syntax stuff to print. Nothing in English.
So any help from ANYONE would be appreciative because Apple wasn't helpful when I called today.Is there any reason why you're not using the standard Epson supported driver? It's available here
