Epub and ibooks version?

Can I publish in iTunes the same book as a epub-file, created with pages, and as a multi-touch-book, ibooks-file, created with iBooks Author? What can I do that Downloads in iTunes for the iPad will be the multi-touch-book and for the iPhone the epub-file?

The iPhone can't download a multi-touch book, so you don't to worry about that side of it.

Is ther some limit to the number of books or total storage used in IBooks?  Thanks....

    Hi jybravo70,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you may be experiencing issues on your non iOS 8 devices because iOS 8 is required to set up or join a Family Sharing group.
The following information is located in the print at the bottom of the article.
Apple - iCloud - Family Sharing
Family Sharing requires a personal Apple ID signed in to iCloud and iTunes. Music, movies, TV shows, and books can be downloaded on up to 10 devices per account, five of which can be computers. iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite are required to set up or join a Family Sharing group and are recommended for full functionality. Not all content is eligible for Family Sharing.
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • I recently downloaded a book and it will not open due to being incorrectly formatted. Even though I downloaded this FROM iTunes!!!! What is going on, I have the latest OS and iBook version....??????????

I recently downloaded a book "In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day" and iBooks tells me its incorrectly formatted even though I downloaded this from iTunes and have the latest version of the iBooks app.  What is going on? I want a refund if this doesn't work.  My other books open fine.

The Report a Problem link can also be found in iTunes/Store/View Account/Purchase History.
Before asking for a refund, also try deleting the book and redownloading it.
If you find that the iBookstore is does not meet your needs, you can try one of the others like Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Googlebooks, or Sony.

  • EPub and iBooks Author

I have written a book. I have it in iBooks and ePub format. I want to upload both the formats to iTunes iBookStore. I have already uploaded iBook format. But what I want to do is upload both iBook and ePub in the same book. Like for example, if the iPhone user downloads the book, he/she should get a ePub file while iPad and Mac user should get the iBook file. How should I do that?
Link to my book is here: https://itun.es/us/G3CvZ

That would require two versions/books, not one hybrid, which you can't do in the store, sorry.

  • Epub and ibooks

Why does iTunes producer change the format of my epub file when I submit it to ibooks?? How do I fix this?

    trentharris wrote:
actually no it doesn't, when I i convert it from pages to epub file must be when it changes it?
Yes, it is Pages causing this.  I suggest you search/ask in the Pages and epub forums and see if someone there has a fix (this forum is for the iBooks Author app):

  • Problems with epub 3 and iBooks 2

Problems with fixed layout epub 3 and iBooks version 2
I am producing an epub 3 fixed layout ebook. My query is whether there is a known issue with epub 3 and the old version of iBooks - iBooks 2.
The epub has passed verification with epubcheck 3.0.1 and I have viewed the file on my iPad with iBooks 3.2 as well as on iBooks on my Mac, and also through the Chrome browser using Readium. In all cases the layout is fine. But when the file is downloaded onto an old iPad using iBooks 2, the layout is all mixed up. The iPad says that its operating system of OS.5 is up-to-date , and will not allow it to be updated, and thus it's impossible to update iBooks to versions 3.
So my question is whether this is a known issue with fixed layout epub 3 and versions 2 of iBooks, and if so whether there is a work around to allow fixed layout epub 3 to be read on iBooks2.

Follow-up query: (apple-ibooks-display-options) file needed in epub 3??
I tried adding the old (apple-ibooks-display-options) file to the META INF folder, as you used to for fixed layout epub 2, and the file displayed perfectly on the older version of iBooks, as well as on the latest iBooks. This leads me to ask whether you still need to add the 'apple-ibooks-display-options' file to epub 3, to make them readable on old versions of iBooks, or whether this indicates that some of the settings stating this is pre-paginated etc. are not entered correctly in the content.opf file, but I have checked this and I don't think so.
Any advice on this would be very welcome.

    Hello vinnyvg
I have an image of a map, each country has a text which links to the corresponding chapter to that country. The connection is made via a text link that connects to a box, which I am using to make a black background the size of the entire page, this box is labeled as diagram (info panel) and the text link connects directly to her.
I have already put all the links in the upper layer as you suggested, but it did not work.
    Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Submit an ePub AND an iBooks version of the same book?

So, my e-book is finally in the iBookstore (http://bit.ly/stock_footage_itunes).  I think it looks good in the standard iBook reader on both the iPhone and iPad.  But, I'd like to also submit it in the new iBooks Author format for more funcationality like quizzes and embedded video support.
My question is this: am I able to submit an "enhanced edition" of what is essenitally the same content that is already offered on the book store, and be able to charge a dollar or two more?  Or, will I go thru the effort of converting my book and buying another ISBN, only to have Apple reject my "second" edition due to duplcation?
Anyone ever done something similar?  I think it's a valid procuedue; the "regular" ePub version is for the iPod touch and iPhone (and the iPad if the user desires), and the "enhanced" edition would be for those on iPads who want a more enriched experience.
    Thoughts?

Yes, I have done this. We did a standard text edition as an ePub, and an enhanced version for $4 USD more. We did use two separate ISBN numbers.
There is even a field in the ITunes Producer app when you upload your book, to specify any related versions of your title, including other electronic versions as well as a print version, etc.
    Hope this helps.

  • Some words are not highlighting on my read-aloud epubs after updating IOS 6.0.1 and iBooks 3.0.1

Some words are not highlighting on my read-aloud epubs after updating IOS 6.0.1 and iBooks 3.0.1 on both my iPad 2 and iPad 3. They are working absolutely fine earlier. I even updated the latest version of iBooks 3.0.2 but nothing is working. Can anybody help?

    Hi spati,
I ran into this problem as well.  Seems like something funky going on with iBooks 3.  Anyways, I had to tweak my read-aloud clip starts in the smil.  Where the word was not highlighting, I added a few milliseconds to the timing until the word started highlighting again.  Not the most ideal solution, and not sure what exactly causes it because 90% of the words were just fine, but it seemed to fix the problem.  Note prior to the problem happening, I had all my clip start timings = clip end timings for the previous word, so there were no gaps.
    Regards,
    Tim

  • Hello....anyone know why when emailing an epub file....it arrives in my inbox as a Zip file...and iBooks cannot open it

Hello.... can anyone tell me why when I email myself an epub file....it arrives in my inbox as a Zip file...and iBooks cannot open it. Any suggestions would be appreciated...thanks

If you are running Tiger, you don't have time machine.
You need to get something like SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner (sorry, I don't have a handy link for CCC but you can Google it to get their site) to make a clone of your drive on the external and then do incremental backups.  The free versions do a lot and you can upgrade to the full-service versions for small change if you need more.  The one time I used SuperDuper! for cloning a volume it worked just fine.
(My backup application is the last PPC capable version of Retrospect, which does a credible job, or has over the past ten-twelve years.)

  • Online study course, ebooks available .azw3, .epub and .mobi.  Will any of these be read by Ibooks?

Online study course is offering ebooks instead of online.  Versions of ebooks are azw3, epub and mobi.  Does Ibooks read any of these versions?
    Thanks Sandy

iBooks does. I use Dropbox to transfer my .epub/.mobi files, just upload them, access them on the iPad, then share it to Books.

  • IOS 6.0.1 and iBook 3.0.1 - problems with interactive epub

My iPad 2 was recently updated wtih IOS 6.0.1 and iBook 3.0.1. After the recent update some of my interactive epub files are not working properly. Mainly slideshows, working fine earlier, where I have used jquery and javascript. Does anyone know why? Is there a bug in the updates. Thanks for helping me out of this problem.

Did you see a release note on it somewhere or did you find out through your own experience with it?
Since it was a quietly released 13.3 I am curious what it fixed officially. According to the release notes from Apple with 6.0.1 it did not make any mention that it was patching the data leaking when using WiFi and cell data. Only that complaints of dropped wifi from people using iPads and iPhones that was previously reported was fixed.

Well, to paraphrase the old line, "What're you gonna believe, that email or your own lying eyes?"
The first thing I'd recommend trying is to power down your iPad (press & hold Sleep/Wake until the red OFF slider appears, then slide it to shut down), and then boot it back up and try again. You're resetting a bunch of state signals by doing that and this simple action (the first of a series recommended by Apple in your Users Guide) will quite often clear up these sorts of problems.

You will have to go via your computer's iTunes. Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases in iTunes (that should copy epubs and/or PDFs that are in the iBooks app, not just actual ibooks), and if using a Mac with Mavericks or Yosemite on it then do File > Move Books From iTunes in its iBooks app. You can then email them or add them to Dropbox from your computer.

I've been trying to get a book sample and a dialogue box comes up saying: To receive book samples, you need a device with the latest versions of iOS and ibooks installed and Automatic Download enabled.  I have iBooks installed and automatic download enabled.  I don't know if it's talking about a new version of iOS on my iphone or my laptop. You people sure like to make things difficult.

    trevbeats,
I had the same problem. It turned out the issue for me was that I had Automatic downloads turned off on my devices!
see below how to turn it on.
Tap Settings > iTunes & App Stores on your device.
Tap Sign In if you're not already signed in to the iTunes Store.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
Tap On/Off switch to enable or disable Automatic Downloads for each content type.
