I suspect you may have to "pass through" Adobe Digital Editions.
As I understand it the ascm file is the "key" that unlocks a DRM processed file.

Trouble adding epub and pdf files to Kobo Glo

Hi there,
I've recently downloaded some epub and pdf ebooks that I want to add to my kobo glo. I'm using a macbook pro computer with OS 10.7. I've searched online forums that tell me that I can just drag and drop pdf and epub files on to the KOBOereader that pops up in my devices. I have done this and ejected the kobo but when I power it up these ebooks are apparently no where on the device. I then followed the instructions on how to add ebooks using ADE 2.0. I authorized my computer to read adobe DRM files under the same email that I set up my kobo with. I plugged in my kobo glo and clicked on connect and the device is recognized in ADE. I authorized the device and drag-and-dropped the files on to the ereader. They apparently transferred over fine and when I open the device in my finder window I see the digital editions folder that contains the files. I eject the device and power up but the files stll do not appear in my library on the ereader. The only files that appear are the ones that I have bought from the Kobo desktop store and loaded on to it through the Kobo desktop app. I also want to note that I do not see the ebooks that I have purchased from kobo on the device when I click on it in ADE. Any help as to fixing my problem is greatly appreciated.

Hey i know what you are talking about the same thing happened with me and eventually i went and changed my kobo but when i tried to download books they never showed up, also when i download books I only used a specific site so i downloaded new books from a different site and sent them to my kobo and they went through. So there might not actually be a problem with your kobo but the site from where you get your books from. Try switching sites from where you usually download books and try a new site it might work as it worked for me.

On the Adobe Digital Editions software Web site, click the Install button.

I can no longer add epubs or PDFs into iBooks

I already have a few epubs and PDFs on my computer and wanted to add them to iTunes in order to get them onto my iPad. It used to be easy enough to do. Now it does nothing. I tried to add them via the menu, I tried dragging them as well. I have Mavericks and iTunes 11.1.3 (the latest version at this current time). Is there a simple fix without having to follow a list of twenty actions such as rolling back or deleting this and moving that? Surely I'm not the only one with this simple problem?
I would appreciate anyone's help.

UPDATE: Disregard. It seems i Have to open the file first in iBooks on my Mac before adding it to the library in iTunes. It didn't work prior to that. Seems odd, but at least it solves the problem.

The "for older video cards" version is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit core application, a similar package to all previous 64-bit releases of iTunes. It is a potential workaround for any compatibility problem with the full 64-bit version of iTunes, in addition to its intended use for systems where the 64-bit version of iTunes won't work with your graphics adaptor.
Another possible workaround is to roll back to the previous build:
iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)

I successfully convert a pdf into ePub and it can be read by iBooks. However on second run, all my converted epubs are not readable in iBooks! What went wrong?

I used Xilisoft PDF to EPUB Converter 1.0.4 by the way. I will understand if none of them is not working, but what really puzzled me is the fact the first conversion works, but not the rest. I had check all the settings, all the same.

True to that, I was not bothered until I realised my both pdf shelf is terribly cluttered while the Books shelf are empty, so I was thinking to put Western comics in the PDF shelf while the Japanese comics in Books shelf.
I finally decided to post questions here after I went through researches on troubles with epubs which sometimes are malfunction due to wrong coding of the epubs and itunes/ipad will not read those certain codes. I was very curious on that.

Fixed layout Epubs versus PDF!

I have this niggling thought that I can't seem to shake off, so I'll air
it out here:
What is the difference between a fixed-layout ePub and a PDF? I mean,
what is the intrinsic difference? Isn't a PDF precisely a fixed-layout
ePub, only better?
A PDF has searchable text. It can be enlarged or reduced at will on the
screen. In a fixed-layout ePub, the line breaks are fixed, as are the
position of the graphics.
So why a fixed-layout ePub??

EPUB allows access to new distribution options and new tooling and integration options (ex: HTML animation/interactivity) also become possible because EPUB is based on web technologies.
IMHO, it is the rise of ebook stores which has driven EPUB - I can sell an EPUB in a store, not so much with a PDF.
Here is the first EPUB that the team knows about which was created with the new FXL export feature:
iTunes - Books - Outside the Box by Karma Wilson
Obviously this could have been created as a PDF (which it was when they went to print it in on paper since the original files were InDesign) but by ALSO exporting to EPUB FXL it made it possible to reach this store.
In the end it is all about the specific reading-apps/device and what format you have to create in order to reach that app.

On Macbook, iBook used to be part of iTune. Now it is an independent component. Here is my problem. I found no way to sync the books and PDFs in iBook library on MacBook to my iPad. How can I sync?

You should be able to sync them in a similar way to how you used to sync them, it's just that now you use the iBooks app on your Mac to manage your ibooks/PDFs/epubs library on your Mac instead of within iTunes.
If you connect your iPad to your Mac's iTunes and select the iPad, one of the tabs across the top of the screen should be Books which you can use to select which of your Mac's iBooks library to sync to it e.g. with the left-hand sidebar in iTunes disabled (option-command-S) I see :

Can EPUB and ANNOT files in MY Documents be deleted automatically

I have noticed that ADE leaves EPUB and ANNOT files behind in My Documents for books I have deleted from my Nook reader via ADE. Is this common, or do I have to do something to have them automatically deleted? Can I just go in and delete them amnually?

I have a little question, I recently purchased a book from itunes store and it runs without a problem in my mac, the thing is I need to read that book in a PC. Is there a way I can convert the epub to pdf? or is there a way so I can read that book on my PC?

Most books purchased from the iBookstore have DRM and cannot be read on other platforms.

Sync selected books and pdfs iTunes desktop

Hi all,
I have been trying to archive my pdfs and ePubs to my computer via iTunes. It used to be I could back everything up to my iTunes library on my desktop and then I could select which songs to sync on my iPad, but the option to select sync is greyed out. I am planning on deleting all unnecessary pdfs and books off of my iPad as they are taking up a lot of space. I can't update to iOS 7 as the books and pdfs are taking up a lot of space. Most of my books were made by my school, so I can't redownload things as purchases.
Im running:
iTunes 11
iOS 6
Latest version of iBooks

I have created a web clipping portlet which just includes a set of links to HTML and pdf files. When I try to open a link to a pdf file the web clipping portlet fails, but links to the html content work fine
Is it possible using web clipping to open the links to the pdf files and display them in the web clipping portlet ?

How to add Images and PDFs in MDM iView

Hello!
We use SAP Portal as interfase to access SAP MDM repository tables.We use MDM Record Set and MDM Item Detail iViews to display and operate with main table content.
There is a field in the qualified table, which is the lookup to the Images table. And the other field is the lookup to the PDFs table. Both fields are qualifiers.
In the main table there is a field, which is the lookup to the qualified table. When we try to add values to this field using Item Detail iView, we get a window, where we can fill all values of the qualified table, except Image field and PDF field - they are disabled. So, can we add Images and PDFs to the table using Item Datail iView? Or what is the other way to add them?
