EPub export from Pages crashes iBooks on iPad

I HAD been having great success with the new version of Pages in exporting a fairly large (128 page) document as ePub for the iPad. The ePub is only 2.8MB.
Then... after making some changes to content (formatting, etc) all of a sudden iBooks crashes instantly when trying to open the ePub document.
Calibre still opens it fine on my laptop!!!!!
I have rebooted the iPad, installed new version of iBooks, synced the iPad... no help.
I can find the crash logs
*Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT)*
*Exception Codes: 0x00000000, 0x00000000*
*Crashed Thread: 0*
but have had no luck figuring out what change I made that is causing iBooks to crash.
(In another thread somebody from Apple said to EMAIL THE CRASH LOGS... but I don't know WHERE to email the crash logs)
any ideas appreciated.

If you only have them in the iBooks app then you can't upload them to a website, iBooks doesn't have that option.
Is your company computer the computer that you normally sync the iPad to ? If it is then you can connect the iPad to it and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases (that should copy PDFs and/or epubs that are in the iBooks app, not just actual ibooks) to copy them over to the Books part of its iTunes library.

  • Image quality in ePub exports from Pages

Something changed in ePub exports of images recently, or in iBooks' rendering of them. Now they are fuzzy when double-tapped and enlarged. Originally (at beginning of iBooks) they popped up looking quite crisp.
Oddly, I can still get crisp images with double-tap if I export an ePub file from Scrivener, and import it into iBooks—using the same images I'm used in Pages.
Does this make any sense? Have others noticed this change in image quality?

Just for the sake of clearness - InDesign 5.0 = InDesign CS3
    InDesign CS5 = InDesign 7.0.x
I suppose you are talking about InDesign CS5 and not something older.

  • IBook video playback problem in ePub exported from Pages 09

I've added several videos (5) to my Pages 09 document that I'm using to export an ePub for an iBook.  I've adjusted each to show a unique poster frame using the Inspector.  After export and sync to my iPad and iPhone, the video placeholders with their poster frames display fine.  However, when I tap any of the videos to play, they all play the content of the first video.
For example, these are the five videos in the order they appear throughout the book (Pages document):
    1.) How to shoot
2.) How to change a lens
3.) How to import image files into Aperture
4.) How to apply image adjustments to a photo
5.) How to apply brush adjustments to a photo
Each of these look like the correct video because the poster frame shows the correct content.  But when I tap to any of the five, the video that plays is the first, How To Shoot.
I've tried different methods of adding the videos (dragging, using the Media panel, using Insert from the menu), different video file types (.m4v - which I used in my multitouch textbook with iBooks Author), .mov), different dimensions on the pages, spreading the videos out over several chapters (to avoid any size limits as there are with images), using poster frames and not using poster frames, etc.  Nothing seems to work.
What's more frustrating is I've spent the better part of the day searching to web, only to find I seem to be the only one experiencing this problem.
I didn't know if anyone else has experienced this problem - and if so, what they did to correct it.
    Thanks for any help.

Without having created any epub documents I still will try to answer. Two things hits me and they are Size of video and naming of the videos.
For images the size can't be more than 11 Mb in one chapter, that might be the same for videos.
Make sure you have different names on the videos.

  • Export from Pages to ePub??

Help! I need to export from Pages to epub.  I've read the tutorial a hundred times and it says that when you click on "export" one of the options should be epub.  However,  my only options are pdf, word, or rtf.  What am I doing wrong?

If your admin bought the iWork package as a DVD, Pages '09 version 4.0.3 is really the late version available on this media.
As fruhulda wrote, you must get and apply an updater (maybe you must ask the admin to do that, I know that some of them are a bit picky).
PS, since last wednesday, the best Apple tool to create ePub is the free iBooks Author.

  • How do I transfer epub files from my laptop to my ipad

How do I transfer epub files from my laptop to my Ipad Air

If they don't digital-rights-management on them (if they do then check the site that you got them from for which apps you can use for them on your iPad) then you can add them to your computer's iTunes library via the File > Add To Library menu option - if using a Mac with OS X Mavericks on it then add them to its iBooks app via File > Add To Library.
Then connect your iPad to your computer and select it in your computer's iTunes, and use the Books tab to select and sync the epubs to your iPad's iBooks app

  • PDF from Mac to iBooks on iPad - how?

PDF from Mac to iBooks on iPad - how?
Before iBooks for Mac came along I simply dragged my PDF to iTunes and synced my iPad. I foolishly installed Mavericks and iBooks on my Mac.
Now I have no idea how to drop PDF's to my iPad.
There is a support article but no helpful at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4227?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
What must I do? I simply want Apple drag 'n drop functionality back please.

You should be able to add the PDF to the iBooks app on your Mac via File > Add To Library, and if you then connect your iPad to your Mac and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your Mac's iTunes then it should show on the iPad's Books tab for syncing to your iPad's iBooks app.
Or you can email the PDF to yourself and use 'open in' in the Mail app on your iPad to copy it into the iBooks app.

  • EPub exported from ID CS6

This concerns ePubs exported from ID CS 6. The idea of reflowable text is that if you change the window size, the text will reflow to fill in the new dimensions of the window. But I notice this is not true with the toc. Looking at the ePub in Adobe Digital Editions, if I drag the right side of the window to the left, the text reflows, but the list in the toc just gets covered up. Shouldn't the toc reflow also?

Having said that, the reflowable part of an ePub refers to the actual
text (in the right hand pane in ADE), not to the navigation pane.
Different ePubs readers use different ways of displaying the navigation
    contents.

  • A warning re exporting from Pages to Word

I am glad for germantownmark (on 4th February) that he was able to resolve the exporting of a Pages document to Word and that in the event he did not need Fruhulda's help.
However, I wish to point out that Exporting from Pages is not necessarily always successful.
In particular the exporting of MathType expressions is as yet unsuccessful. Although the main text will be OK the MathType will appear a seeming miles above the line of text. Which is unacceptable.
(An "Export Warning" first appears which contains the words "Exported Math Type Equations can't be edited". And then one can see the outcome for oneself when the resulting Word document is opened...)
I became aware of this problem ages ago and notified Apple Support - and have been given a case number for it. But so far there has been no update of Pages which eliminates this problem.
NB Because MathType is also accessible elsewhere in iWork09 such an update should be across the board.

Apple never stated that exporting Pages to Word will give an exact replicate of the original.
They just stated that you may export, no lees, no more.

  • MS Word spellcheck goes crazy after export from Pages

I exported two long documents (250 pages each) from Pages 5.0 to Word (.docx) format. When I open the documents in Word for Mac 2011 everything seems fine – until the spellcheck runs. It comes up with hundreds of false positives.
For instance, the following words are all marked as misspelled: if, understanding, wasn't, isn't, student,  – and so on and so on, throughout the whole document. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.
Previous to export I had checked spelling in Pages. So there shouldn't have been any misspelled words at all, let alone all these crazy false positives.
Has anybody experienced this? Has anyone got any advice on how to fix this? I know I can just turn off spellchecking in the Word documents, but I'd like to keep it on.
    I'm running OS X Mavericks (10.9) on a mid 2012 MacBook Pro.
    Thanks.

I know what you mean, fruhulda. But MS Word is working just fine with all my other documents that weren't exported from Pages.
It makes me wonder if there is something underying the text when the files are exported, something that is throwing off the MS Word spell checker.
My next test will be to export to text then open in Word. (My documents have very little formatting.) If spellcheck works fine then, I'm forced to wonder whether something about the export process from Pages to Word is problemmatic, or at least problemmatic for Word. But exporting to Word is the whole point, so there shoulnd't be these issues.
In other words, how can you have a feature that claims to export to Word that can't handle something as basic as spell check?
My documents (books) ultimately need to reside in Word so the publisher can work with them. I like working in Pages. It feels cleaner than Word. So I work in Pages and then export. But with this problem I'm seriously considering whether I shouldn't just write in Word from the start and avoid the problems that can come with exports. Somehow I feel like there are bound to be more.

  • The file "Acceptance Letter.pages" doesn't exist. Since installing Yosemite on MacBook Pro I cannot save or export from Pages. Just get the message at beginning of this post. How to solve problem?

I cannot save or export from Pages since installing Yosemite on MacBook Pro . I just get the message at beginning of this post “Acceptance Letter.pages” doesn’t exist or whatever file title I have inserted How to solve problem?

Thanks Peter but I was not seeking to store with I-Cloud. In fact I never store documents with I-cloud.
I was in fact trying to store the files to Documents, which is where I usually keep such things.
Have now discovered that if I leave the file untiled and simply close it, rather than saving it then it will save, oddly, to Documents. I then have to re-title it and move to the folder I want it in.
Despite the above, even once it is titled and saved in Documents then if I reopen it I still cannot then Export it to a Word or PDF file. I still just get the message . xxxxxx.pages does not exist!
Bad news as I am constantly exporting documents to Word and PDF to send to others who do not use a Mac

  • EPUB exported from InDesign works on iPad and not on Android tablets

I've edxported several similar books to EPUB from InDesign CS5, using the same technique each. After exporting from InDesign, there's a lot of tweaking of the HTML code and some changes to the content.opf and toc.ncx, but the finished product for all of the books works fine on iPads but some do not work on Android tablets. There are six separate InDesign documents in each epub book...three small, one large, and then two small. Some of the books work fine on Android tablets, but for some of them, the first three documents show up fine, but when one advances to the large document, the book closes. There's no error message. Any ideas what the problem might be? Are there size limitations for documents on Android machines?

As you have found out - it doesn't work.

  • Cannot find how to export from Pages to ePub

I have Pages '09, and looked on Apple's tutorials for how to export as an ePub file... It says just click share, export, ePub, but I do not have an ePub option. My only options are PDF, Word, RTF, and Plain Text. Am I missing something very obvious?

It's interesting that 'they' have decided to NOT let folks on 10.4 produce an ePub (from Pages). I understand that I cannot 'do' the whole ePub consumer side on this machine but I was hoping to get a bit of a headstart while on the road. (The mini at home base is running 10.6 and is my ePub production environment. That version of iWork9 does have the later Pages, which is why I was surprised when I could not find the same UI on my 'travel' machine.)
As to why I don't upgrade the G4? I need one machine that can run Classic. So it will live at 10.4.11 for the rest of its life.
I have my fingers crossed that today's announcement will include a suitable Macbook Air update ... one that is not too wide and/or too high. (The 13" 'books have been too large a footprint to replace my trusty 12" so I've been holding out...)

  • Image export from Pages to epub

Hope this is the right forum.
Question about exporting images from Pages to ePub: What does the following comment mean?
Images beyond the 11MB of un-encoded image data allocation per chapter.
    1. Does "images" mean total number in chapter? Or is the 11MB per image?
    2. What is "un-encoded image data" please?
    Thanks.

I asked the above question because I am writing a book with many pictures, and the exported ePub files for one particular chapter stop including pictures after a certain point.
However, that point is much beyond 11MB. The pics average 600KB, and it includes 45 of them (about 27MB) before stopping.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Cross reference not working properly in epub exported from IDCC

    Hi,
I'm not sure whether this is a known issue within ID so forgive me for bringing it up if it is. I couldn't find any satisfying answer on this forum, hence my question.
It seems that cross references between the xhtml-docs created from split ID document during the epub export don't work properly. They link to the text anchors specified as relative links. My editor uses software compliant to many e-reader platforms that removes all the relative links between the xhtml files within any epub and replaces them by absolute hyperlinks (http://). The result is... broken links all over. Their specification asks for the the anchor entires in the content.opf file instead of the relative links. Is there a way to work it out in InDesign and have the content.opf file contain the navigation to the anchors in xhtml files within the epub?
I'm working with IDCC 9.1 btw. Would appreciate any help...
    Kind regards, Kasia

    Hi,
Not sure exactly where you gone wrong.
If you want the running sum to start from beginning for each YEAR and each LINES. Use this
=RunningSum([Sales revenue]; ([Year];[Lines]))   => Need Square brackets around Year and Lines. This forum site doesn't display square bracket correctly
If you want the running sum to start from beginning only for each LINES (regardless of YEARS). Use this
                =RunningSum([Sales revenue]; ([Lines]))
Not sure why you added ROW in your functions. Hope this help. Works for me, just tested using my efashion with the same structure are yours.
    Regards,
