Epub Fixed Layout

I am using CC and I want to export my indesign project to a fixed layout epub. When I go to export I am only given the option to export to a regular epub and not a fixed layout epub. How will I be able to export this as a fixed layout?

I've moved your post to the InDesign EPUB forum
You have to download and install InDesign CC2014.2. Check your CC desktop app for it. It will be there as long as your operating system supports it.

  • InDesign CC ePub Fixed Layout not showing up as an Export option

I am trying to export an ePub Fixed Layout, but when I go to Export, I only have the ePub option - No Fixed Layout. I have updated to the latest version on Cloud and have restarted my computer. Any solutions?

What operating system are you running? If you're running Mac OS X 10.6, you will not be able to download the latest version which is InDesign CC 2014. That is required for ePub Fixed Layout.

  • How to view EPUB fixed layout on Ipad

    Hello All,
I am new to the EPUB world - migrating from DPS folios. I just want to view my EPUB fixed layout on the IPAD and need some assistance in making it happen. Thanks.

Export to EPUB and load the EPUB on iPad. You can use Dropbox for this.
    Open it in iBooks.

  • Scrollable Frame solution for EPUB Fixed Layout

    Hi,
I have found a solution (or, rather a hack) which allows us to create scrolling frames for EPUB Fixed Layouts.
You can find the exported EPUB, as well as my InDesign file on my Dropbox: EPUB scroll.
This solution has some weak points and has only been tested in iBooks on an iPad with iOS 8, but here's how it works:
Create two text frames (one as big as your text requires, and one which will be the container [tip: make the container a bit wider than the text frame])
Cut the big text frame, select the smaller container frame, and Edit->Paste into
Right click on the container, select Object Export Options, choose EPUB and HTML and enter "subchapter" as epub:type:
Open a text editor and create a new CSS file. For CSS code, see below
Export as Fixed layout EPUB. In the export dialog box, select the CSS tab and add the previously created CSS file
    Done!
    CSS code:
    div[*|type = "subchapter"] {
    position: relative;
    div[*|type = "subchapter"] > div {
    overflow: auto;
As you see, steps 1 and 2 are essentialy the same as for creating a scrollable frame folio overlay.
It’s not perfect, and this solution is just a proof-of-concept, but it should get you going.
An obvious problem is that we use basic HTML scrollbar, which is not being displayed in e-book readers such as iBooks on the iPad. Hence, the user has now idea how long the scrollable content stretches. This could probably be solved with a more complex, JS-based solution.
Also, the gradient feather at the bottom (which is intended to create a "fade-out effect) seems not to export well. This one should be easy to solve, placing another rectangle with a gradient in it. But I’m not sure if transparency exports well, and haven’t tested it.
Feel free to use, and improve, this hack!
    Thanks,
    /Jacob

    Thank you Uwe,
I look and hold you aware of your solution in an environment EPUB

@Papo – then I would suggest not a scrollable frame, but an MSO you can click through showing the whole text.
    1. Do some text frames the same size
    2. Thread all the text frames to one story
    3. Align the text frames
    4. Make a MSO out of it:
The text frames are still threaded and text can easily flow between them.
    5. Do some navigation buttons to control the MSO states:
"Go To First State", "Go To Next State", "Go To Previous State" etc.
Later you can change the text (add or remove, do different formatting) flowing in that story through the states.
A very flexible solution. Ok, it's not a scrollable frame, but something like that…

  • Epub fixed layout option missing

    Hi there,
I'm trying to create a digital version of a magazine I current produce for print. I'd like to export it as a fixed layout epub but when I click on 'Export' I'm not offered the epub fixed layout as an option simply 'epub'. When I export using this all of my images and text appear all over the place. I'm using InDesign CC 9.2.1 on a Mac. Am I missing some vital step?
Many thanks in advance for any advice offered.

I've moved your question to the InDesign EPUB forum.
You need to upgrade to InDesign CC 2014.1 (October 2014) release. You can do this from the Creative Cloud app unless you're running an incompatible OS version, for example, Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

  • Space disappears before and after numbers during epub fixed layout conversion

Created .indd file using InDesign CC 2014 and converted to epub fixed layout format. Everything is correctly converted -- EXCEPT that every number (date, address, single number in text) is stripped of its space before and after. The indesign file is correct and spaces are all present correctly. Any thoughts? Could it have to do with fonts (using open type features such as contextual alternates with Figure style set to Proportional Oldstyle)? Quick help would be appreciated -- on a deadline as usual!
    Thanks,
    Kate

then i export the file to epub (fixed layout), this works perfect in my iMac iBooks, but the sound don't work in my iPad iBooks, any idea?

    Hi,
There is an issue on iOS7 with playing sounds, with latest iOS8 there is no such issue. Issue could be there if you trying on iOS7, I would suggest trying same epub on iOS8 and see if issue is there as well.

  • Arabic punctuation when exporting to ePUB fixed layout

    Hello,
I'm using InDesign CC6 ME and on it my document looks just fine.
Once I try export to ePUB 3.0 fixed layout, my end-of-paragraph punctuation shows up at the beginning of the last line instead of at the end.
Please keep in mind that since this is an Arabic text, the punctuation at the end of the line has to be at the far left which is not what I'm getting.
I hope I can find some help with this.

    Hi Sania:
    Pooja is absolutely correct.
There are a variety of limitations at this point in Roman/J/ME which we have been working to improve with our aim being that update-to-update to InDesign CC for both Reflowable and Fixed Layout we keep getting better. We've been focusing on Roman first and have had our hands full with that.
The team as benefited immensely by being able to work with real customer customer document - would you be willing to share some of yours with us? We only use them for our own internal testing and do not share them outside of Adobe (and typically only the team). It makes a big difference to us.
If so, please contact Pooja directly at [email protected] and she will make arrangements for receiving them. Typically we just need you to package the document (or a subset of it, whatever you feel comfortable with) so we get the necessary assets and fonts.
    Help us make this better.

  • CC 2014 export to epub Fixed Layout Table Of Contents Question

I have an .indd which I exported to an epub 3.0
looks fine except there is a table of contents in the .indd and it does NOT work in the Epub.
I see a tuts for adding a navigation TOC in an EPub 2.0 doc but I need to have the TOC from the .indd as a linked / working TOC.
    Any help here?
    R

Ok just to add a little here so the problems I'm having are in ONE post.
The document was not made by me, I needed to go from .indd to Epub Fixed.
AS mentioned the TOC was ALREADY in the .indd as well as hyperlinks thru the document.
When I go to export as EPub Fixed  I chose the TOC style ( I know there are a few options for this here like removing the original TOC and replacing with a new  OR just using a navigation TOC which would be seen using an Apple Reader THAT WORKS
But, TWO things are problems, when exporting to fixed NONE generated  TOC's work, new generated and original ( which I left in there just to see)
and second, ALL the hyperlinks that were working in the pdf before do NOT work in the Fixed Layout BUT I did do a flowing text export and in that those hyperlinks only WORK in the re flowable.
    Any help here?

  • Glyphs alignment change while export file to epub-fixed layout

Glyphs alignment should change while export file to epub, any solution for perfect export in fixed layout

    Hi,
Are your documents in the book of different page sizes? Have you done any edits to page size using Page tool and not using Document set up dialog?
We honor only the document set up dialog changes and not the changes made to page size using page tool so this could be one of the reason for things going wrong.
It would be really nice if you could share your document on dropbox may be and share the link with me at: [email protected] This way it would be easy for me to investigate and tell you why this issue is happening.

  • Can you disable 'flash' after pressing a button - epub fixed layout annoyance

    Hi,
I have a hide show feature across two images set as buttons so that it seems that one image is animating slightly, however, whenever i click on the image there is an after 'touch' - ie the image turns muted and blue for a split second.
Is there anyway to disable this when pressing a button?
    THANKS!
    James

    I just read that.
    Thanks for the heads up.
This is not giving high hopes though.  I know it's new-ish and all but if people have to go out of there way to read these that is not going to make it a very popular format.  Apple has there stuff together but as for Windows and Android they really need to step it up.  Adobe needs to take the initiative and add this to Acrobat or crate a new viewer for epub in my humble opinion.
    Thanks again.

  • Javascript(s) inserted into an ePub fixed layout file

    Hi,
I'm searching all information on this question.
    Thanks in advance!

I am also interested in this topic. I see only this in the InDesign Help document under EPUB export:
Specify the URL of an existing JavaScript. InDesign does not check whether the JavaScript exists or is valid, so you’ll want to confirm your JavaScript setup.
I would like to include a simple game made in javascript (from a premade script) and insert it on a page in an ePub. I haven't found any clues as to how that might be done.
    Adobe likes to tantalize ...

  • Epub fixed layout - iBooks library/nav pop up blocker

    HI,
is it possible to program an ibook in export where it disables library/nav pop up as it is very annoying when it pops up every time you use interactivity in epub3
ant tips on how to get round this?
    thanks
    James

Ah ok. I'm talking about when the til and bottom bars come up allowing you to click back to the library and across bottom see all the pages across the bottom to navigate to - in just finding that as I'm clicking on buttons it often brings this up which is annoying and eats into the design of my pages
