EPUB - GRAY BOXES Instead of Images

When exporting my epub book, I get gray boxes instead of images. Has anyone else run into this or know what to do to resolve this issue?
All the images are linked properly and InDesign is saying I don't have any errors. The only way I can get images to show up is ONLY if I select "Use Existing Image for Graphic Objects". But if I select this, I lose the cropping and orientation adjustments I've made in my inDesign file. I've even tried just copy and pasting an image into the document itself.
Needless to say I've spent way too long trying to figure this out and haven't made any progress...

If other people can export it fine but you can't, then I would suggest some troubleshooting of your InDesign install.
Have you tried rebuilding your preferences and then re-exporting?
Have you made sure you're not using any third-party plugins that automatically load with InDesign?
Assuming you've done those two tests and are still having a problem, then try it on a test account on your computer. Package the InDesign file and put it on a thumbdrive (or I guess you could just download the files from the link above) and then log out of your account on your computer, and log in again to a fresh new account with admin privileges. (If you haven't created one yet, you should do that first before logging out ... lol)
When you log in to the new account, all the apps are available to you but none of your other account's files or user settings. So open InDesign, download/copy over the packaged file, and open the layout and export. See if that makes any difference.

Webcam shows gray box instead of image on a G455 using Ubuntu 10.10

I upgraded from ubuntu 10.04 and my webcam started going in and out showing a gray box, I updated my xorg and now the gray box is always there. If I right click where the image is supposed to be I can see a fragment of the image but nothing more and I hear a low ringing sound.
I had a similar issue with my media players(gray box not the low ringing sound), I fixed that by changing the video codecs.
I don't know how to do that with a webcam that's built in.
anyone know how to fix this or trouble shoot to be sure this is the actual problem?

[SOLVED] Gray box instead of flash in rekonq, konqueror.

I've succesfully installed kde 4.5.2 and everything's fine except flash doesnt seem to work. e.g. i get gray box instead of video in youtube, altough sound is playing.:

I needed to disable rgba support in my ~./bash_profile. I remember when i was on gnome i played with rgba. Now when i disabled that, everythings is back to normal

Ever since I upgraded to the newest version of Firefox, I've been getting a lot of blacked out boxes instead of the actual images. When I right click "View Image", the image does show up, but I don't want to keep right clicking boxes just to see an image. I also checked to see if I might how blocked the image on AdBlock or on "Page Info", but nothing was marked.
The blacking out of images seems to happen randomly at different times. From different tabs opened, not all images are blacked out. On the same page, some images will be blacked out while some show up. Also, I've for the same web page, one day I'll open it up and everything is fine, but the next day I open up the same URL and the images are blacked out. It just seems so random.
I was thinking my internet speed could have something to do with it. The blacking out also happens more frequently when I have multiple tabs open or if the images are larger. However, I did not have this problem until I upgraded Firefox.

F053 boxes instead of images on multiple websites.

At some point little icons or images became replaced with small boxes with a "F053" or "F0XX" where XX is a set of numbers on several websites, I cannot seem to get that fixed.

Those missing icons are actually supplied by a font that is downloaded from the server (@font-face) as you can see by the little boxes that show the hex code of the characters.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
You can check the gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled pref on the about:config page and make sure that it is set to true (if necessary double-click to toggle its value).
You can open the about:config page via the location bar and you can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

?in blue box instead of images

Images within text not appearing on some websites. Only ? in blue box appears. Same thing in Chrome and Firefox.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Blue box instead of image?

Why is it that I sometimes get a blue box with a question mark rather than the image? I've tried closing the browser and reloading, to no avail.
Any suggestions? Thx!

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

Grey Boxes Instead of Images

I have Adobe Reader 8. I am running MS Office 2007 also. When opening either web pages or pdf files some or all images are greyed out. Others viewing the same web pages or files see the images. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Last night I reinstalled Adobe and the problem seemed to have gone away. However, this is good to know in case the problem comes back. Thanks.

Gray box around images in PDF and when printing? Why?

Hi,
I'm using CS5 and I'm getting a gray box around any image embedded in my document. The box comes if I click on it when a PDF and it prints around them. I can't seem to figure this one out. I'm not used to prepping files for print and I'm trying to send this out to someone who needs to print it.
It's CMYK.
I've tried to flatten transparency using both vector and rasterize.
I've made sure the images are embedded.
I can't figure this out!!

Pictures and Scanned images are now gray boxes

I have Adobe Reader XI and it will no longer show images or allow me to scan from my printer. I have a mac, and have always been able to create pdfs and scan to them until the past few days. My version is up to date. Images in pdfs and the scanned documents now appear as gray boxes.

All your images are pointing to your Templates folder. I would guess that they are not uploaded to the server.
I don't think that is the ideal place to store your images. Normally, one would have an image folder and images would be there. Also your css is also in your Templates folder, not ideal again.
IE:

Usually when they are greyed out, then could be a broken link.

Unfortunately I cannot help you; all I did was test for you.
I did an upgrade over my Lion install with Mountain Lion which went fine. I just tested icon view in my Finder on different files and folders and here in my installation all stays fine; good readable like in column view!
The only thing you might try is change your Font in Finder and set it back to the original afterwards!
I quickly Google'd how to change fonts in the Finder as appearantly there's no obvious gui item for it:

Try to see if it brings you anywhere!
At my post all fonts act normal after my upgrade to Mountain Lion; I don't do a clean install unless I really have to!

Loading an image to remove gray box, then unload the image.

I have been searching for this solution for awhile and I can not seem to find an answer.
What I want to do is load an image instead of the gray box (or as soon as the applet loads) as my applet is processing its information. Then when it's completed, it should take away the image when I display the information. (Displaying the information I already have, not the image part though).
Can this be done? If so, please point me in the right direction.

so i took your suggestion about loading the image, then using a thread.. but the thread can't write to the AWT components at the end of the run (specifically the TextArea). This is basically what i have.. but if i display the TextArea after the start, it does display, but you would see the output being displayed. I would just like to show the "loading" then when it's done, display the TextArea over the image to "hide" it.
but i guess my major question now is, why doesn't the TextArea display?

Zoom box shows pink shading instead of image

Sometimes when I have several zoom areas on one screen, the
first or second zoom shows up as a pink box instead of the zoom
image. Strange that it doesn't seem to happen on all slides which
have several zooms, just some of them. I've tried rearranging the
zooms on the timeline and locking the slides, but nothing seems to
work. I'm zooming 3 different areas of an image, so none of the
zoom areas overlap and none of the zoom destination areas overlap.
It happens intermittently in preview mode and also after I publish
the file. Help! :)
Example:
Zoom #1 appears after 3 seconds and looks fine. It displays
for rest of slide
Zoom #2 appears after 11 seconds and looks fine (at first).
It displays for the rest of slide
Zoom #3 appears after 15 seconds and looks fine. Once Zoom #3
appears, however, Zoom #2 (destination area) turns to a pink/peach
colored box and remains that color for the rest of the
slide.

To my knowledge, this bug was never fixed. I just do one of
these workarounds:
1) Use highlighting instead of zooming
2) Avoid placing more than one zoom area on a slide -
separate them into separate slides with one zoom each
3) If placing 2 zoom areas on one slide, zoom into a JPG of
the zoomed area. To do this, follow these steps:
- Insert zoom area as you normally would
- Preview the slide and pause it when the zoom is at its
largest
- Use a screen capture to get a JPG of the zoom (I use
faststone screen capture)
- Exit captivate preview mode
- return to the slide and doubleclick on the zoom area to
show the info related to the zoom area
- use the "select image" button (located on the "zoom
destination area" tab)
- find the JPG you just made and select it
- Now when you play the slide the zoom turns into the JPG so
you don't have to worry about it turning pink. Kinda time
consuming, but it's the best I got ;)

Some email images do not show while using the icloud web app. I can see the images on my IOS devices and in gmail but I only see a small gray box in the icloud web mail app. Load HTML images is checked in preferences.

I've seen the opposite issue. My wife recieved an email with jpg attachments. She couldn't see or print them on her iPhone 4S but they showed up fine in iCloud or in the mail app. I had her forward the email to herself and then they showed up. I assume there is an issue with how Apple is processing the attachments and resending causes them to get reformatted in a way that makes them easier to handle.
So yeah. Seems like some bugs. Hope Apple fixes them soon.

Images added to my layout surrounded by gray box!

Hi, I'm very new to all this but I have what seems to be a simple question! When I try to add a graphic to my layout it's surrounded by a gray box...I downloaded the graphic from a scrapbooking website, but on the website when it shows the tutorials the graphic does NOT have the gray box around it, so is it something I'm doing wrong? Or could it be that the downloads don't work with PSE 6? thanks for any tips :)
