Equal Volume Level on Playback

I have songs on my iPod that I downloaded from CDs and others from iTunes. Those from the CDs play much louder than most of the ones I downloaded from iTunes. I checked the Sound Check box on my computer and I also manually adjusted the low volume songs from my computer (can't remember exactly where I did that). Neither worked. Is there some setting I'm missing on the iPod or do you have any other suggestions? It is very annoying.

Click on the link.
It is a program you donload and run on your library.
It analyzes and adjusts adjust the volume of the songs.
"Tired of reaching for your volume knob every time your mp3 player changes to a new song?
MP3Gain analyzes and adjusts mp3 files so that they have the same volume.
MP3Gain does not just do peak normalization, as many normalizers do. Instead, it does some statistical analysis to determine how loud the file actually sounds to the human ear.
Also, the changes MP3Gain makes are completely lossless. There is no quality lost in the change because the program adjusts the mp3 file directly, without decoding and re-encoding."

  • Volume levels in playback on a Bose.

Since when downloading many tunes from various groups, albums, artists, etc., I find that many (most) downloads come through on playback at many differing volume levels. Is there a way to 'level out' the output volume thereby eliminating having to constantly turn up, or turn down volume on playback?
    Thanks!

Sorry, I forgot to say that I am using a Bose docking system, and I constantly have to use the remote volume control to adjust the level on many different tunes...

  • Equalizing volume levels of various items in an iTunes playlist?

Is there a function available in iTunes that will equalize the volume levels of items in a playlist that come from various sources and that currently playback at widely different levels? If not, is there a way to accomplish this task using GarageBand?
    Thanks!

The official answer is to use Sound Check. Many folks have noticed that Sound Check does not work as advertised, but give it a try.
Beyond that, you can adjust the volume of tracks individually, either with the volume adjustment in iTunes, with Garage Band, or with a 3rd party program such as MP3Gain.

  • Varying volume levels

I am having to constantly adjust the volume on my IPOD mini. I have sound check on. I have songs that I have ripped from my CDs and songs from ITUNES. Really annoying. Is there any way to solve this problem. I do have an audio card on my computer. Is there a way to rip all tracks at the same volume level for playback.
    Thanks,
    Jerry

There are 3rd party programs that do this more effectively than soundcheck (at least in my opinion).
    For Windows there is mp3/aacGain.

  • Help. Playback volume levels

I have downloaded several songs from CD, purchased and podcasts onto a playlist. They are saved at different volume levels and hence the volume varies from song to song on playback. Is it possible to equalise the volume of all songs in a playlist? Thanks

Use the soundcheck feature to level out the volume somewhat.
Apply it in iTunes using the edit/preferences/playback menu (Windows).
    iTunes/preferences/playback (Macs).
Turn it on on the iPod using the settings/soundcheck/on menu.
After applying it in iTunes, sync your iPod to reflect the changes made.

    For Windows there is mp3/aacGain.
However, this 3rd party software won't work on any DRM protected files such as those purchased from iTunes.

  • Volume leveling firmware update request

I once had an old mp3 player that would automatically adjust all songs to match an equal playback volume level. However, on the iPod Classic 80 GB model, my songs play at unequal levels; I always have to turn the volume up for songs ripped from audio CDs. Could Apple release a software update to add the auto playback volume leveling to the iPod? Could this be included in Firmware version 1.1.3?

    Jeff,
I have downloaded the MP3/AACgain. What folder can I find the tracks in my library that are currently stored on my ipod? Can I run the tracks through this program without having to sync them back to my ipod? Please let me know. Thanks!
The program is run on the songs in the iTunes library, then the songs are re-synced to the iPod.
As far as I know, it can't be run on songs already on the iPod (at least iVolume, which is what I use can't).

  • How can a consistent volume level be set for all the songs in an iTunes library?

The volume of the songs in my iTunes library varies significantly when played on my iPod.  Is there any way of setting a consistent/equal volume for the songs in my library so that I don't have to change the volume level when listening to my iPod?

I have used the $30 iVolume utility to equalize my iTunes song's volume for several years and it works well. I just wish it worked for music videos.  iVolume is available on the Mac  App Store, or you can try before you buy at the developer's site: http://www.mani.de/en/ivolume/index.html

  • Using compressor DVD Studio Pro 4 will only accept ac3 format in the burn process. ac3 makes a nnsense of the good sound delivered, 30% reduction in volume, auto volume levelling giving unwanted volume variations. Used to be able to burn using AIFF/WAVE,

AS Above. Edited in FCPX. Excellent sound file. Using Compressor 4 to DVD Studio 4. Wanting AIFF or WAVE sound for acurate sound.
Previously DVD Studio 4 has accepted AIFF etc and delivered sound as reuired. Now, during the burn process everything other than ac3 is declined as 'video bit rate too high', but will burn if the AIFF format is replaced with ac3 (which I presume meanss the 'video bit rate too high' is referring to the sound file)
The issue with ac3 format is the huge reduction in original volume and worse, the 'auto volume levelling' that makes a nonsense of the original soundtrack - with simply aweful unwanted variations in volume Throughout the  the dvd.
I have tried everything I can think of to get around this. The 'volume gain' in compressor doesn't make any difference. Exporting just AIFF and the Video to DVD 4 doesn't make any difference, it always declines anything but the aweful sound ac3 delivers.
I have customers awaiting a musci DVD, not with thei quality I can't.
    Cheers
    Phil

The total video bit rate is determined by audio & video. Depending on what rate your video file was encoded at will determine how much room is left for audio. PCM(aiff/wav) audio requires a bigger piece of the pie. Video bit rate too high means your overall(video+audio) rate is going above 9Mbps which the format won't allow. The only way to use aiff would be to lower your video file's data rate. The length of your program is also a factor in all of this.
I had some problems in the past with using aiff instead ac3. Although there shouldn't be any issue I experienced playback issues on some players that couldn't be explained but were cleared up by ac3.  I have been using the same specs as Dave's suggestion for almost nine years and have not had any issues with mix, quality, or levels.

  • Is there any "mechanical" helper to get my volume levels the same?

I create playlists from ratings,(and comments),- and albums have different volume levels. As I always use my ipod to go to sleep, it is very destructive, to not be able to hear my music one minute, and then have it much too loud the next.
Is there ANYTHING, free or chargeable, physical or software, that can help me get my itunes library to all the same volume level. My problem is agrivated by the fact that I do have some shared downloads, and also someone put my vynils onto cd for me, but at a lower volume.
I might add, that I'm still a learner on the computer. I have been told to change the soundcheck -playback -preferences -itunes. I have tried it, ticked and unticked - it doesn't make any difference.
I'd be very gratefull for some advice. Please HELP, this has been going on for ages. Thank you, in anticipation.

I'm SO very grateful for your help! Have downloaded it, and have started to use it, but havn't listened to results yet.(just about to) THANKYOU SO MUCH.
Thankyou so much again, this could be the end of a long (negative) era!
A bit later: have listened to a little, seems a huge amount better. will update when used properley.
I'm anticipating some being way out. Though it says it can overcome old changed volume levels, is it best in your opinion, to put them back to original setting?

  • Higher volume for video playback?

    Hello everyone!
I am new to the boards and to the touchpad.  I have a question about adjusting the volume in video playback.  I woudl like to know while during the conversion process, are there any converters out there that can boost the volume?  I have been playing with Movavi, AVS, and Cucusoft.  I am converting an AVI to MPEG-4 or Ipad format, whichever is on the menu.  When I transfer the converted file, the video looks great and the audio plays back.  However, the volume to me is not high enough.  I have also used my headphones and it still does not play as loud as my iphone 4 and they are basically the same file and format.  I bought this because of the price and I am going on vacation later this year and I want to use it on the plane so that is why I am having the volume issue.  To me it seems it wont be loud enough on the plane.   Is there anything I am missing?  I have also tried to upgrade to the latest OS version but the TP is always coming back with the unable to connect message.  I am still working on that.  I cant get the web doctor to work but that is another thread.
    Thanks very much
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

Ok, I think I have mastered how to convert my movies to play on the TP with no issues.  However, I need to somehow increase the volume level of the converted movie.  I have already installed the preware option that increases the internal volume levels, but some of the movies I have converted seem a little low for my taste.  I have been trying trial versions of several video converters such as DVD fab, Xilisoft, Cucusoft and others but I like Handbrake's track record and it's free!
What I would like to know is if there is a volume setting in Handbrake?  If not does anyone know a way to increase the volume levels when you convert movies any other way?
    Thanks very much.

  • Why is the volume level different from song to song in iTunes & on iPod?

When I play back songs in iTunes and most of all on my iPod the volume level is different depending what songs I am listing to. The biggest problem is with the songs that I get from my CD’s because the volume is very low. Why does this happen and can I fix it? Thanks, Robert

iTunes uses a feature called "SoundCheck" to attempt to equalize playback volume. There are actually 3 Sound Checks: 1 is for iTunes playback (set in Preferences), 1 is for iTunes burning (set on the Burn Disc dialog), and 1 is for iPod playback (in iPod Settings).
Make sure they are all enabled.
They are far from perfect, but they should help.

  • Audio Levels on Playback

Whenever I create a slideshow in iDVD or iPhoto, and then burn to a DVD in iDVD the volume levels are incredibly loud on playback on my television or stand alone DVD player.
I can see the sliders to adjust the volume for playback on my computer when creating a project, but is there any way to control the volume level so it doesn't "blast" out when played back on a television, etc.?
    Help -- my ears hurt!

I find that setting my volume controls to medium translates into a fairly high volume level on my TV, so that I, too, often have to turn down my TV set when playing the DVD. That might vary from TV to TV.
Part of the volume controls is found within the clips themselves. You can lower the volume of your clips by selecting View/Show Clip Volume levels. You will see a black horizontal line ("rubberband") running through all of your clips. You can drag this line up or down to lower volume levels. I usually have my volume line just above middle. But you can adjust it lower than that throughout the project, tailored to each clip.

  • Volume level ZEN NANO PLUS, can it be chang

I have a new ZEN NANO PLUS that I have bought in Spain.
I?ve had this model before and I know that, because of the EU ruling ( **bleep** those bureaucrats! ), the volume level is not as loud as the model you can buy in the US.
A few people have suggested flashing the firmware and installing the US firmware, has anyone tried this, and did they have any success?
I downloaded the US firmware and tried to install it on my player but no luck, and the player died aswell, but I?m not sure if I did the correct thing...
If anyone knows anything about this any info would be greatly received.
    Thanks in advance
    Neil

You shouldn't have problem using both player together in MediaSource even in transferring audio files(non-protected content). Are you referring to being able to playback PlayForSure subscription content? I doubt it is possible(personal opinion) for the player since I believe it's more to do with the hardware rather than software.

  • Which EQ setting + volume level is the most 'clear'?

    Hi
Just got an iPod Classic this week (my first ever Apple Product other than iTunes). It's replacing a 30G player from another company from 2006 (ran out of room) that had really good sound. With a simple pair of JVC Marshmallow earbuds, the right mid-volume and the right EQ setting, I could hear all the musical instruments clearly and somewhat equally and the singer's voice was clear as well, as if we were in the same room.
I'd like to recreate this with my iPod Classic but I've noticed the EQ isn't customizable (unless I'm missing something) and that with some of the iPod's EQ settings I can hear instruments clearly but the vocals sound muffled, almost like they're dubbed from another source. But there's other settings (Vocal) where the singer comes in clear but the instruments are muffled in that dubbed way. I've tried Flat and Off but results with those vary.
My old player's EQ was set at a reverse of the iPod's Rock setting, lowest bars on the outside and highest in the middle. Is it possible to load an EQ setting like that from iTunes? If you can download a game, can you download an EQ setting?
AND is there a certain volume level where that 'same room' clarity shines through? Anything lower than 11 out of 20 on my old player and it would lose that clarity (anything higher than 13/20 was too loud). 12 was just right. If that makes any sense.
Or could it have something to do with how a song is ripped from a CD? Which is what my music collection started out as.
I'm hoping someone can help and shed some light on this for me. I got it engraved so I can't exactly return it. haha

Most audiophiles, switch off the iPod Classic EQ as it is crap, most probably designed by some team who like bubble-gum music. but if you must use, create a custom EQ presets
    read this forum
    http://www.head-fi.org/t/399487/ipod-custom-eq-yes-it-can-be-done
But try not to boost up greater than zero db, the new iPod audio chipset don't like it, your music will sound like something from some Oriental Opera, of course, unless you like the metallic tin highs.
