EQUATION EDITOR WORD 2011

Hi all, i recently purchased a mac with word 2011.  When i use the equation editor and save my document, upon re-opening the equations are all over the place or sometimes missing?  is there a setting or save type im missing?

This sounds like a problem with Word, rather than a problem is your Mac. You might want to post your question here:

  • Equation editor in word for mac 2011

I apologize if this is straying too far from elements of the Lion discussion but
I have seen others compliment the capability of the equation editor in Word for Mac 2011. It's icon is
at the right end of the Document Elements toolbar.
But in my version of this software the icon is greyed out and unavailable. Any insight or comments?

Thanks quicksilver8 - turned out eqation editor was greyey out because
my file was opened in "compatibility mode" - when I open a file in ".docx" mode
    the equation editor is available.

  • HT3986 Does equation editor in MS Word work with windows 7 on a imac

Just wondering if I buy an iMac and install Boot Camp whether or not all of the MS Office features will work?
For example, my wife needs to use equation editor in MS Word.  It's sort of an add in in Word so I need to make sure all of those random features work before I go down this road.
Should I go to the store and ask for a demo or is this question a slam dunk?
    Thanks in advance.

you are installing, running, Windows, natively, so it is the same.

  • Equation Editor MS Word

    Hi all!
I would like to create connection MS Word. so I have a string control, set text : E = mc^2 and this text is sent to MS Word. As you know, MS office has a very good equation editor, and I wanna use it from Labview. So, If I set any mathematical text as tags in MS Word, select text -> Insert->equation->professional, the text converted to real equation form. So, Could you send me an example, that shows me how to use this feature of MS Word using Labview??
or is there any useable Activex Control to solve my problem? I found one, but it is a trial version...

  • Word Equation Editor: Crashing

    Good evening interested people,
I've found a bug that crashes word using equation editor, although I cannot always reproduce it.
I figure I'll get a couple comments telling me to use LaTeX instead, don't care. That doesn't fix the bug within word.
Sometimes when I create an equation (by pressing "alt" "+") and start typing an equation, but realize I don't want to use the equation so I press backspace until it exits the equation editor mode (deleting the entire thing)
Word will crash. I've used microsoft 2010 word editor for a few years and have not had this problem at all. After switching to 2013, I have this problem a dozen + times.
I've tried everything on the user side to fix it, no solution has worked (including disabling hardware acceleration).
The fact that it didn't occur on earlier versions and later occurred in 2013, I figure this is a good place to compare differences.
I should also mention this has happened on two different operating systems on two different computers (windows 7 and windows 10 preview). The windows 10 preview is a new install that had no other version of office on the system. While it may be operating
system based, the fact it occurs on both 7 and 10 makes it unlikely (unless it is a bug with windows).
The fact it occurs on a newly installed operating system makes it unlikely previous installations of office is causing the problem.

    Hi Statistician,
I followed your steps, and could not reproduce this issue. Do you mind going to Event view and check if there are logged some detailed information about crash?

  • Microsoft Word 2004 Not saving if EQUATION EDITOR USED in document! Help!

    Hello
I had trouble saving my word document on my brand new mac...I kept getting an error message stating there was not enough room on the hard drive and to close other applications or save to another disk.
I know there was (is?) a bug with Word 2004 so I fussed with my document a bit and I found that if I eliminated the EQUATION EDITOR objects, then I could save just fine....
Problem is, I need those equations in the document in order to do my job (I am a math test writer.)
Is there a fix to this problem?
    Thanks
    Ruta
MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Microsoft Word 2004

Make sure you've downloaded the latest updates to Office 2004...11.3.6. Maybe that "bug" you're talking about was fixed.
Otherwise, since the issue is with Word, and Word is not an Apple product, you'll get better response if you use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups> rather than an Apple forum.
Be sure to search the forum first in case someone has already had a similar question answered. You'll get your answer faster this way. Post your question in the forum if you don't find anything that helps you.

  • Do MathType equations in Word import effectively into iBooks Author?

I am looking for the best way to build MathType equations in Word to successfully import into iBooks Author.

That seems like an extra step. Since iBooks Author (iBA) already has a "MathType Equation" command on its Insert menu, why not do it directly from iBA?
If, however, you want to do it as you describe (or perhaps you have an existing Word document and you want to use its equations in iBA -- that makes sense), you'll need to build the equations in Word, then select the one you want (i.e., click on it once), copy it, then use the Insert > MathType Equation command in iBA. When MathType opens, paste the equation into the window. Close MathType and the equation will insert into iBA.
Incidentally, WRT TX Aggie SE's suggestion to use the MS Word Equation Editor, I think you'll find that'll produce less than satisfactory results in iBA, no matter if you use the "old" equation editor, or the "new" one that was introduced in Word 2011.

  • What is the best equation editor for pages on the iPad?

I am a math teacher and I just purchased an iPad. I am trying to releave myself from carrying around a laptop in favor of the light-weight iPad. I used MS Word 2011 on my MacBook and really love its new design for its Equation Editor, but now that I am with the iPad, I will be shifting to Pages and need to know how I can get the same results as I did with Word's Equation Editor. Any ideas? There seems to be a few apps for this, but I am not sure how they stack up and none of them are free for me to experiment with.

CloudOn has the excellent MS Word Equation Editor. It really neds a stylus to operate, but, with that caveat, it is an excellent solution.

  • Equation Editor in Microsoft Office and Leopard

I use the Equation Editor in MS Office 2004 for typing equations. Last week I upgraded to Leopard. Now when I use the Equation Editor I get some unexpected results. For example, putting a "dot" over a character results in "<<" over the character.
Since these problems appeared, I have performed a complete re-install of Office 2004 (with first moving the old Office 2004 and Microsoft-related .plist files to Trash) and performed all of the Office 2004 upgrades up to 11.3.9. No change -- the problem persists.
In contacting Microsoft, they focused in on the source as being problems with the system fonts and not problems with Office.
Has anyone else had these types of font problems since upgrading to Leopard?
    Thanks.

I have what appears to be the same problem: a file created with Word in MS Office 2004 (in Tiger) containing equations written in Equation Editor, where the equations now appear in corrupted form: minus signs disappear, the greek letter lambda appears as #, although the greek letter mu appears fine. When I double-click the equations they appear correctly in the equation editor window. But embedded in the document they are corrupted and they print with the errors showing on paper.
I emailed the file to someone who has a Windows computer. They can open it fine and print it fine. I downloaded it from my email web browser at home, opened it on my home computer (iMac G5 also running Leopard) and it appears fine and prints fine. So I am no longer sure it's a Leopard issue. But it may be that font files have been changed somehow on my intel MacBook.
Any suggestions? I don't know what Font Book is.

  • .docx file received from a Windows user isn't displaying scientific writing in Word 2011 in OS X 10.6.8 - font or plugin problem?

I've tried searching everywhere and found similar issues, but nothing exactly this. I'm trying to format a document which was created in a Windows version of Word (unsure which year). However, the document has some scientific writing and minor equations (I assume), and they're just displaying as blank boxes, as if the font isn't installed. It says they should be in Cambria Math.
In Word 2011, Cambria and Calibri aren't displaying as installed fonts and they're listed as "heading fonts" separately in the drop-down, although they do show as all good in FontBook, and when I change to that font in the document, it does change to look like it's Cambria/Calibri. Highlighting and changing the font just changes it to code (ie: "PriBC", or "Cij", not a symbol) but it still says that it's "Cambria Math" after the change.
After some research I tried installing a trial of MathType in case that helped them display. When I highlight the symbols in Word, the MathType plugin pops up to deal with it, but I still can't get it to change to equations - either they disappear completely if I click to convert it to professional display, or they turn into codes like the one mentioned above under letter display. Admittedly, I don't have experience with this, so I'm wondering if there's something I should be requesting of the other person, some extra bundle of information to save in with the Word file?
There has also been one pop-up once that said that I didn't have Cambria installed on my system, which doesn't seem right, either.
On the plus side, my font collection is tidier than it's ever been. But on the downside, I still can't figure this out! Either, do you have suggestions how I can fix it from my end, or what details or steps I should specifically ask of the other person? (They're not particularly computer-literate, which is part of the problem.)
    Thanks in advance.

Update: I upgraded to Mavericks today (10.9.1) and since then, problem solved! Don't know why that was the magic fix, but it was.

  • How can I fix 'Can't Load Visual Basic for Applications' in Word 2011 for Mac?

How can I fix 'Can't Load Visual Basic for Applications' in Word 2011 for Mac? I reinstalled Office after macbook was restored and now I've tried reinstalling twice but the same error turns up. There seems to be an associated error realted to the database, which send me to Database Utility. This turns up every time I open Word, then the VBA error message turns up 4 times, or if i click on Visual Basic Editor.

in case it's useful to some other soul who searched Google in vain and found this page, I posted a fix that worked for me under https://discussions.apple.com/message/21732017

  • Equation Editor

I've got two issues that I have been unable to figure out when it comes to pasting items into a Pages document.
1.) Upon pasting the equation it is HUGE!!!! It may be 12 point in the equation editor, but in Pages if the margins are one inch each the equation comes in at 6.5 inches long!
2.) After clicking on this HUGE equation and resizing it I cannot get it to line up with the rest of the text. It is always in a superscript type position.

With Pages 09 - which I bought because MathType is compatible with it - I can obtain the Pages equivalent of a Word document and whatever MathType in it "travels reasonably well." I click on Open and etc.....
(As an aside "exporting" a Pages document to Word containing MathType is UNsatisfactory. The MathType objects do not remain on their intended line of text. Apple have known about this problem for ages but have done nothing about it apart from giving it a case number. )
I can also copy a MathType object which is in a Word document and paste it satisfactorily in a Pages document.
While if I ONLY open MathType I can construct a MathType object. It cannot be saved DIRECTLY in any document but it can be saved in a folder, for instance, as a .eps object. It can then be copied and pasted satisfactorily in a Pages document.
For the record I had bought "Office for Mac2004" when I bought the Mac in 2007 because I had any number of Word documents which contained MathType objects, and my version of MathType is 5.1.
I must therefore ask you a few more questions.
What type of document did you copy it from in order to paste it into a Pages document?
If it is Word, then what version?
The problem could perhaps arise because "unexpected (often unwanted) things tend to happen" when Microsoft "upgrades" its software.
Also, what version of Pages are you using?
If you are not using 09 then that might be the source of your problem because MathType is not supposed to be compatible with previous versions of Pages.
There has to be a reason why your MathType object ends up in what is equivalent to a massive "picture frame".
Over to you once more with feeling!?

  • Equation Editor in Pages ?

    Hi !
I wanted to insert an equation in a Pages document (as we can do it in Word), but I didn't find how to do... Maybe there no equation editor ? Is there another possibility to do so ?
    Thanks a lot

    Hello Leø,
have a look at "Grapher" in "Applications/Utilities". With this app you can type math equations and you can drag and drop them as images into Pages. Of course, you have to save this equations in Grapher for editing because Pages will insert them as images. See if this can help you.

  • Applescript error w Microsoft Word 2011

I'm trying to write an Applescript to clean up text, and am getting an error when I try running it from the Applescript menu in Word 2011:
Script error: Can't get <<class 1717>> of missing value
Here's the script... any help would be appreciated:
    tell application "Microsoft Word"
set docRange to find object of selection
clear formatting of find object of docRange
        tell docRange
execute find find text "^p^p" replace with "*****" replace replace all
clear formatting of find object of docRange
execute find find text "^p" replace with " " replace replace all
clear formatting of find object of docRange
execute find find text "*****" replace with "^p^p" replace replace all
clear formatting of find object of docRange
execute find (find object of docRange) find text "  " replace with " " replace replace all
        end tell
    end tell
    I'm running 10.9.5. Thanks.

FWIW, Microsoft Office's AppleScript "implementation" is about the worst possible ever, anywhere. I can't imagine anyone in Redmond could be proud of that abomination. Not that it helps you...
In any case, it would help if you could be more specific about where the script breaks. If you run this within AppleScript Editor, it should highlight the specific line that causes the problem. You'll then likely have to pull out your hair, sacrifice some small animal, or perform some similar ritual while you try to determine what the Word developers were smoking when they implemented their "scripting interface". At least you'll only have to focus on one line at a time.
If it helps at all, if I try to run your script, it complains about the line:
clear formatting of find object of docRange
so that might be a good place to start. Unfortunately (but not surprisingly) the dictionary is broken so I can't tell you what the 'correct' form of the clear formatting command is.

  • I cannot enter backslash in word 2011 anymore!

Since I upgraded to Mavericks, I can enter backslash in other packages but not in Word 2011. e.g. it works fine in textedit. I need backslash in order to write equations in latex. I can see it in the keyboard viewer but when I click on it in the keyboard viewer it does not appear in word, and alt+¥ does not work either. What is happening to meeee!?

Hi Marc, the adobe plugin has nothing to do with it (this is in the Library/InternetPlugins folder by the way), even with Adobe installed, I always advise to delete the Adobe plugins, the Preview plugins -default- do it very good.
Could be an extension in safari, as Carolyn said, but you do not have any.
In Safari Preferences/Security the "Java Script" must be activated (never uncheck that because you need that for almost everything, it has nothing to do wit Java).
When you activate Java in Safari and it does not work, Go into SystemPreferences and click the Java Applet and in the Security Tab you must activate it there too!
But: I never have to activate Java to put in the code... I have Java disabled almost always, it is only in one particular Banking Application that needs it.
Disable Java (not javascript), Quit Safari (from the menu). Then restart the machine. Try again.
