Equations Hidden in Indesign

Hello, does anyone have a solution for hidden  Equations in Indesign, The Equations links not missing in indesign file, but i got big problem in that these equations not viewed in particular page.

Hi rob,
Yes, I can select the Eqn464.eps links panel, after few mins if i changing anythings in the frame or export pdf it will be hidden again. Can anyone say what i'm done wrongly?

  • How to handle TeX/LaTeX equations in InDesign?

    Hi All,
I've recd. a request to handle one of the title already done in LaTeX software in InDesign, for this I need to do the below tasks:
    (1) Need to convert the LaTeX data to load in InDesign
    (2) Need to convert the equations done with LaTeX coding as equation objects in InDesign
    (3) Need to retain the LaTeX links to work in InDesign, so that while generating the PDF, these links should be worked
So pl. give me your suggestions to handle the above mentioned tasks. I know I can use the third-party tool called 'MathMagic' to handle point 2 (but this tool seems expensive), but I need to know whether any other easy methods to handle. I'm using InDesign - CS3 (Windows)
    Thanks,
    Praveen

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for the response.
For points 1 and 3, I decided to convert the LaTeX contents to XML to fix the linking using automation thro' JS. For point 2, I'm still studying to find a solution and since this is the first time we've recd. this request, we're not ready to invest for one title.
    Thanks again,

  • Equations in InDesign

I have a document which needs to have (non-simple) engineering equations inserted. This is the third booklet in a series, the first 2 docs were created in InDesign but did not have much technical jargon.  I would rather not put this document into Word, so I have downloaded the equation editor "MathType" in the hope that the equations could be done from within InDesign.  The MathType 'creaters' say it is compatible with InDesign. However, as far as I can tell, the only way I can get an equation into InDesign, is by copy & paste which means it goes in as a figure/object. Well, this is fine, except uniform re-sizing through the document might be a problem, as well as the fact that the equation does not seem to be editable, and it seems that the equation would need to be re-created, if there are any changes to it.
My question is, is it possible to put editable (complex) equations directly into InDesign Documents? - perhaps even by some other equation plug-in?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For one-off equations most people use MathType (and live with external editing), but yes: there are a couple of commercial plugins that add editable equations to InDesign. InMath (http://www.itip-gmbh.eu/en/products/inmath/) and MathMagic (http://www.mathmagic.com/product/pro.html) are probably the best known.
A thorough discussion on MathType and a few plugins can be found at http://objectmix.com/adobe-indesign/225551-indesign-equations.html

  • Align MathType equations in InDesign

    Hello
Anyone know how to align mathtype equations in InDesign CS 4 automatic? I read many discussions topics here about scripts that apply equations and align, but I want to know if there are one way to use any script just to align the equations automatic in InDesign for MAC OS, there are any script that can do just that for Mac?
    Thanks
    Jonas!

    Hello,
If you work on PC, I think I can help you by my system of scripts (MT-Script).
You can read more about it on my site (http://mtscript.ru) or in Scribd publication (http://www.scribd.com/doc/73272275/MT-Script-or-How-to-Work-With-MathType-Equations-in-InD esign).
So, what you can do with my scripts? I think... all you need to prepare your publication very and very quickly.
    For example,
    you can paste equations from Word into InDesign (you can work traditionally via exporting equations to Eqn00010.eps... and placing these equations into InDesign publication instead of texts with tags like this <<Eqn00010.eps>> ... but I'm just ready to suppose you new and very simple technick ... simply paste all doc-file WITH equations (like MathType objects) into InDesign and process it by MT-UnembedEqn script ... and that's all);
    you can edit equations directly in InDesign as native objects;
    you can create new equation in InDesign without Word;
    you can format all or some equations at a moment directly in InDesign;
    you can find and change in equations;
    you can export InDesign publication to RTF with editable MathType equations. Yes! You can do it... It's very simple... one click procedure. The forward and backward conversion Word-InDesign have been perfectly created in MT-Script;
    you can test it as full functional system from the second part of Friday till the end of Monday every week;
you can ask me about MT-Script (MathType+InDesign problems as well) just now --> [email protected]
I'm very pleased to help you with MathType equations in InDesign.
BUT if it's usefull for you I can create a limited version for Mac which can paste, adjust equations and exporting InDesign publication to RTF with editable equations.
The functionality to create new equations and edit them in InDesign will be restricted because of I don't work with Mac and can't create a "bridge" program to start MathType directly from my scripts on Mac. Sorry.
    Thank you.

  • Batch import of eps equations into indesign

Hi, I am Thangaraj Mohan, working as an layout artist. Now I am working on a Math book which has tones of equations in it. The whole text keyed in MS word, and the equations are typed inside using mathtype. I exported all equations using mathtype, mathtype exports all equations and replaces with its file name (ie. <<equ001>>) in MS word.
Now my problem is to how place these equations inside the InDesign document. Please help me with your ideas to import all eps files into InDesign as Batch import.
    Thanks a lot.

    hi
you don't need to export Equations as EPS file s- you can jest Copy and Paste or Place your document - all Equations will be imported as embeded graphics - with bad preview - but with Vector contents so they will print fine
if you really need to reimport EPS files - then you need macro to surround Equations with tags which then can be used by script to place EPS files
    from:
    9.1 a) ###  b) ###  c) ###  d) ###
    to:
    9.1 a) <EQ1<###>EQ1>  b) <EQ2<###>EQ2>  c) <EQ3<###>EQ3>  d)  <EQ4<###>EQ4>
but this will require that you will have only equations - no other images - or you will need to renumber-rename files

  • [AS CS3] Another MathType Baseline Shift Question

    Hi Guys,
I am using the below script to place MathType Equations into an InDesign File
Basically it searches for tags <<Filename.eps>> and replaces it with a inline graphic.
    My question is:
Is there anyway I can get it to read the height of the InLine Graphic Box and then get it to baseline shift so it's centered height wise on the line, instead of the set amount of -10pt that is uses now?
We have to open the MathType Equations in Illustrator to change font and colour to Pantone etc, so they are save back as Illustrator EPS's
    Below is the Script:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
    tell document 1
    set baselineVar to "Yes"
    set countVar to 0
    set imageCount to 0
set docPath to file path as alias
    tell application "Finder"
set imageFolder to folder (choose folder with prompt "Please choose the folder containing the appropriate MathType files") --"MathType" of artFolder
    end tell
    activate
    set allStories to stories
repeat with s from 1 to count of items of allStories
set theStory to item s of allStories
if class of theStory is story then
set theLim to count of words of theStory
    try
repeat with i from 1 to theLim
if word i of theStory contains "<<" then
set theText to contents of word i of theStory as Unicode text
set theOffset to (offset of "<<" in theText)
set endOffset to (offset of ">>" in theText)
set imageName to characters (theOffset + 2) through (endOffset - 1) of theText as string
set imageFolderPath to ((imageFolder as string) & imageName)
set wholeTag to characters theOffset through (endOffset + 1) of theText as string
    if baselineVar = "Yes" then
set baseline shift of characters theOffset through (endOffset + 1) of word i of theStory to -10.2
    end if
delete characters theOffset through (endOffset) of word i of theStory
    tell theStory
    tell word i
    tell character theOffset
    place imageFolderPath as alias
set countVar to (countVar + 1)
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell
    end if
    end repeat
    end try
    end if
    end repeat
    end tell
    activate
    if countVar = 0 then
display dialog "No Images were found" buttons "OK" default button 1 with icon 2
else if countVar = 1 then
display dialog "1 lonely Images has been placed." buttons "OK" default button 1
    else
display dialog (countVar as string) & " Images have been placed." buttons "OK" default button 1
    end if
    end tell
    Thanks

The place command will return a list containing a reference to the placed<br />image. You can then get the bounds of its parent, compare them with the<br />baseline, and change them accordingly.<br /><br />-- <br />Shane Stanley <[email protected]><br />AppleScript Pro Florida, April 2009 <a href=http://scriptingmatters.com/aspro>

  • Possible to interact with checkbox in a custom menuitem?

Is there any way to allow custom menu items to be checked (like the menuitems in the Windows menu can be)? The 'checked' property is read-only, for the menu item and the menu action, so I guess I'm wondering if there are any known workarounds or if this is a case of readonly meaning readonly. Thanks!

Browsing through menu related stuff in the DOM lead me to nothing, but Google turned up this blog entry by Harbs: http://in-tools.com/article/scripts-blog/showing-text-formatting-overrides/
-- and then I could find it in the DOM, well hidden:
Adobe InDesign CS6 (8.0) Object Model JS: ScriptMenuAction
So it seems you have to set the state of a menu action. The action in itself can be attached to one or more menus (MenuAction, where checked is read-only, is a parent class of ScriptMenuAction, and there it is read/write), probably to ensure that if a certain menu item appears in more than a single menu, they are all "updated" at the same time.
Harbs' example always sets 'checked = false' and changes the menu text to indicate its current state, but I assume one can also toggle the checked state.

  • Data merge messed up my print prefferences

After using data merge in indesign I cant print multiple page documents all facing the same way. The first page is always vertical and the rest come out horizontal. I reset my prefs, re intalled my print driver, nothing  Any thing im missing?

You might be able to copy preferences from one user to another, but it will be cleaner to rebuild the ones in your profile.
Close InDesign, then restart the application and hold down the Ctrl + Alt + Shift keys immediately. You should see a confirmation dialog asking if you want to replace the preferences. If you don't it means you weren't fast enough with the keyboard. As an alternate you can search for and delete or rename the two hidden files InDesign Defaults and InDesign SavedData, which will be in your user profile. I actually prefer this method since it allows me to save the old set in case new prefs don't work any better.
Keep in mind that replacing your prefs will wipe out things like document and printer presets and custom default swatches and styles. Presets can be selected in the define dialogs and saved for reloading as external files before you replace the preferences (but I'm not sure I'd reload the printer presets until you try printing without them). Styles and swatches can be reloaded from another document that contains them.

  • How do I export to PDF in InDesign without the hidden layers

    Hi there
This is probably a simple solution but I am trying to export a document to PDF in InDesign without the hidden layers.
i.e - I have created a document that includes images etc from an existing PDF.
When I open the new PDF and use the 'find' tool, Pro is highlighting words on the hidden (original pdf).
I have tried exporting only the visible layers but is there a setting in InDesign that I can use to export only the visible content to pdf?
    Thanks in advance.

    Jenjimay wrote:

Even if you mask off part of a PDF, or place a white rectange on top of it, the text will still be selectable. Other than with raster images, InDesign is not smart enough to clip off parts of a PDF (or rather, it's smart enough to leave them as they are). PDFs can contain incredibly complex objects, and any clipping routine would probably make as many mistakes as it solves problems.
Introduce a small Transparency to this image or one on top of it, then export with Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3) settings. Since that old version does not support native transparency, ID is forced to redraw the image, and then it will clip off excess data.

  • InDesign shows "hidden" Illustrator art at edge of AI artboard

I draw  big sets of maps in Illustrator to be part of an InDesign book layout. The maps are vector art. On a top layer, we draw the map's frame or neatline. The artboard of the Illustrator art extends past the frame (in case we need to quickly shift or rescale the map within the frame). So we manually mask the area beyond the frame with white boxes (on the next-to-top layer below the frame). These masks are plain old vector art, white fill (0,0,0,0); no stroke; 100% opaque, and not set to overprint.
The book designer placed the finished maps in InDesign using plain picture boxes slightly larger than each map.
For several recent projects the designer reports that when the maps' artboard falls inside the picture box,  InDesign displays "ghost image" right where the edge of the artboard would be.  It's a little strip of the art right along the artboard, that is supposed to be masked by our white boxes. It's the same color and position, about 1 pixel wide.
We don't know what causes this; we don't know if it's real (it shows up in proof PDFs). We sure don't want it to print. Printers don't like to see it on our proofs.
We are not sure of the cause or solution. It happens on my InDesign too.
Searching old forum posts from 2009 or so, there are threads on ghost white or black lines in PDFs, often with raster art. But we haven't found any discussions of exactly this problem with vector art.
Also, when we export as Illustrator art with PDF compatibility, we apparently have no choice in what flavor of PDF the art is compatible (whereas some of the old threads' solutions, saving as PDFs, it was useful to chose PDF X-1a or something newer than 2004). So some of the "solutions" on those old threads don't apply here.
On our end (in Illustrator) there are a couple unpalatable workarounds. We can mask the Illustrator art (Object/Create Mask) with a rectangle exactly fit the map frame, but we lose all the layers that are useful for future edits. [FreeHand remembered layers of masked art, Illustrator discards them]. We can retain some flexibility by grouping several layers at a time (land, parks and water; roads and trails; type can stay loose on top layers). In our current book, the frame is a rectangle with "rounded corners effect" which doesn't apply to Illustrator masks, so we have to expand the copied frame into a plain graphic with curve handles. For 69 maps, that means 69 or 138 masks. I'd rather not have to do a workaround for something that simply shouldn't happen!
The most promising workaround seems to be: consistently make the Illustrator artboard much bigger than the InDesign picture box, so the edge of the artboard never falls within the picture box. This the designer and I can work on together. Again, though, InDesign shouldn't display art that is legitimately hidden.
Anybody have any ideas? Thanks for your assistance!
P.S. In Apple Safari, why does this dialogue box show white type on a white background? Trying again in Firefox. Apologies for multiple posts.

Depending on which program is used to open the file here's what I get
Open with AICS3, It tells me that an new version was used but it will open. Everything is a single color (576) but in preview mode there is a clipping mask around the letter that is the wrong color.
Open in AICS4, There is no clipping mask, everything is one color (576)
Open in Acro 8 and 9, The file is two color with the odd colored letter
Do you have the original AI file to look at?

  • InDesign - Hidden Characters Corrupting Documents

I post this message in the spirit of sharing information, hopefully to be of help others.
I recently encountered a problem after distilling a document from InDesign which, as an Acrobat PDF, would not print - giving three successive error messages:
    1. The Document could not be printed.
    2. There were no pages selected to print.
    3. A drawing error occurred.
Well, that covers about everything !
After about an hour of patient diagnosis I discovered some erroneous characters had appeared in some bullet points and removal of these cured the problem.
I found them only after copying and pasting the text into Word (using the paste as "text only" option) and copying and pasting it back into InDesign. The spurious characters then appeared as a red-highlighted squares and could be easily deleted.
(Note: I had previously used the 'Show hidden characters' option in InDesign which did not reveal these little devils, neither did they 'appear' in the Word document)
I believe the erroneous character is probably a result of formatting which was in the original Word document imported into InDesign and which could be a 'flag' for bullet formatting (in Word).
The lessons I learned from this are:
patiently isolating the section of the document led to the discovery of the problem
be aware, in the future, of possible odd characters appearing (invisibly) from Word and corrupting InDesign documents.
Hope this may be of assistance.
I haven't given version numbers of my software since this is almost certainly not relevant - but the general principle is.
I hope this may be of assistance.

Thankyou for putting that on the record...

  • Placing a hidden video in indesign cc

Hi there, I am building a single edition iPad app with inDesign CC. Is there a way to have a video hidden on a document  that is then triggered by a button so that the video opens full screen on an iPad? I have tried using states but I am obviously doing something wrong. Or is it not even possible?
    Many Thanks
    Gav

I placed them after editing in premiere pro and exporting out as H.264 for ipad2 match source at 640 x 360px..... the original video was downloaded from a you tube channel. Cannot get it to allow me to insert a screen shot. The insert image button is greyed out. When I place the video within the document it has these white diagonal lines across the area of the frame that stay even if I activate poster none?
