Equipment for Airplay

Let me understand this. I can use a PC with iTunes to WiFi a movie to the Apple TV (square) and then via HDMI cable to my HD television. Or I can use an iPad with WiFi to send a movie to the Apple TV (square) then to the TV via HDMI cable.
Is that how it works?

Yes, that is correct. I would also add that you can also stream from your iPad, over WiFi, to speakers connected to an Airport Express by whatever cable is required.

I'm having the same issue.  Haven't found a workaround.  I use a main TimeCapsule as my main router, also have another TimeCapsule that extends the network, three Airport Express and an AppleTV.  For whatever reason, the two AirportExpress that I have in a different rooms cut out.  I only have 600 square foot apartment so it's not that big, the signal should be strong enough.  Airport Utilitiy reports the signal strength to be strong on all devices.
I'm using all new equipment, a new MacPro for my music, new TimeCapsules, new Airport Express, new everything with the latest Yosemite software.  Very frustrating.  My Airplay used to work very nice and now I'm constantly having issues and restarting my network.  I did a fresh install of all my software on my MacPro when I got it in January so it's not as if it's an old machine with old software, everything is new within the last 6 months.
The only workaround I found so far is to unplug the devices and to plug them back in.  Since upgrading to Yosemite, I'm restarting my Airport Express at least twice a week.  Very annoying.

  • How do I use my iPad with Retina Display model MD514LL/A with apple tv? I see no option for airplay and I have the latest update.

I am having trouble mirroring my ipad with my new apple tv. I don't see any options for airplay. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is your apple tv also up to date?
Are they both on the wireless network, or is the apple tv using an ethernet cable?
Reboot your wireless router, your apple tv, and your ipad, in that order.

  • Audio is not working for airplay.

Audio is not working for airplay. I tried changing the audio output in system preferences to Apple TV both before and after turning on Air Play as suggested in earlier discussion threads. That did not work.

  • How to set up and configure AirPort Express for AirPlay and iTunes

Saw somewhere that supposedly there were some apple written guidlines on the above topic. I have searched all over for them. Anyone know where I can get a copy to read through. Just trying to educate myself a bit and sety up another room with access to itunes, radio, etc with high quality speakers and amp off my express.

  • Trouble connecting to excisting wifi for airplay

I want to use my stereoset for airplay but can't seem to figure out how to connect my airport express to the wifi.
I have an Airport time capsule router (A1355), Airport Express 802.11n (A1264), a macbook pro (OS X 10.9/mavericks) and my airport utility is version 6.3.2 .
When I power on my AE and connect it with an ethernet-cable to the Airport router, (I read on some blogs this needn't to be done it wasn't in the setup manual)
but the light keeps being amber for a few minutes then flashes green one time and keeps being amber after that. And nothing appears to be getting it in my Airport utility on my mac. It appeared one time and then it started to adjust to the airport but then an error occured and the internet quit and never showed up again in my airport utility on my mac.
    - Reseting the AE didn't do it for me.
    - I tried resetting the default settings of the base station.
    - I tried different settings on my Airport time capsule.
Can anyone help me make my airport express work as an airplay on my stereo?

I would recommend that you perform a "factory default" reset on the AirPort Express. Allow it to restart, and then, remove it from power. Then temporarily connect it to the Time Capsule using an Ethernet cable. Finally plug the Express into power.
After a few minutes your Mac should find the new base station in the OS X menu bar's AirPort drop-down menu. Select it and the AirPort Utility should start up. From there you should be able to follow though the automated steps to configure it as a network client for iTunes streaming.

  • Can AirPort express be used for AirPlay with my home stereo, and to give my Xbox 360 a WIRED internet connection via ethernet, simultaneously?

I am considering buying an airport but I am not sure if it will work how I would like it to.  I need it for two things.  The first would be to use for AirPlay with my home stereo.  The second would be to use as a way to give my Xbox 360 a WIRED internet connection via the ethernet port.  I would like to do these things simultaneously, rather than constantly changing the configuration and being limited to a single function each time I do so.
    Thanks!

The 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) can be configured as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, it would join an existing wireless network and its Ethernet port would be enabled for a wired client, like your Xbox 360. This configuration would also support AirPlay simultaneously.

  • Apple TV needs Restart for Airplay especially after resuming from Sleep Mode

    1. I always have to restart my Apple TV for Airplay when I resume it from Sleep Mode. Neither my MAC not my PC nor my iPhone/iPad can connect to Airplay if it's not retsarted. I did a complete Factory Reset of Apple TV thinking it would be the best way of troubleshooting but in vein. Any help/suggestion/tips from anybody please?
    2. Also - Does Apple TV needs internet always for Airplay? I guess that should work on the LAN even if there is no internet connectivity, Correct?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.

  • Do i have the right equipment for CCNA-Wireless?

Hello community i am Adan Ramirez, an aspiring Cisco Tech, and I'm trying to get the right equipment for the ccna wireless.
    Here is my shopping list:
    1. 2 Cisco LWAP 1252
    3. NME-WLC6-K9 module card
Here is what i already have at home:
    1. 1841(2x) - iOS 12.4(24)
    2. 2811(2x) - iOS 15.something something...
    3. 3560 - iOS 15.something something
    4. 2960 - iOS 15.something something
Problem:  I don't know if the NME needs the latest iOS, the one i saw on eBay says it's version 4.2 something something.  I don't have three thousand dollars to buy a brand new module with iOS 7.0 or $ 12,000 to buy a 5500 WLC.  I'm a broke college student T_T, help!
    and thanks!

    Hi,
This is sufficient for your CCNA wireless studies. Probably I would add a VM which can run WCS.
If you really need a WLC, you can buy 4400 series controller (can run upto 7.0.x) for ~200-300 USD. This is the version tested in CCIEv2.0 lab exam as well.
This is the Cisco forum you should follow for this CCNA-Wireless studies

  • I want to exchange all my equipment for the newest model available.

I've been a steady customer since Feb. 2008. I want to exchange all of my equipment for the latest model available. How do I go about that?

It's my understanding that I'm a grandfathered "original" customer, whatever that means. My answers might be different from what you'll get.
If you have Motorola 1200, 1215 (DVR) or 1225 (DVR) boxes, I agree. These boxes are obsolete and slow. They'll still get updates, but it's like trying to run Windows 8.1 on something that was purchased with Windows XP on it... it may work, but it'll take a long time to do a very simple task. A few years ago, when the update was pushed out to AT&T boxes that introduced the spinning circle in the lower right corner and "poster view" for movies, those boxes I mentioned basically started running very slowly.
It's my understanding those boxes are obsolete and are being junked when they're returned to AT&T.
AT&T has two types of modern non-DVR boxes... wireless and wired. I had a tech come out and he was able to waive the $49 fee to get one wireless box. If you call AT&T and let them know your boxes "broke" because of an update they pushed out, and if you're nice and polite, you should be able to get them to waive the $49 fee... actually, you may have to pay it, but your next bill will get a $49 credit...that's what they did in my case.
I don't think that was 100% free as my taxes and fees were *a bit* higher on one bill and I don't know if they were that much lower on the next bill...but whatever.
When I added a second wireless box, I had it shipped via UPS and installed it myself. I was able to get them to credit the $49 fee off the next bill. Once again, I paid $49 on one bill and my next bill had the $49 credit.
Now...if you want the newer wired boxes, there shouldn't be any sort of fee. Like I said before, it was AT&T that pushed out newer software. IMO, a customer shouldn't pay when AT&T's update "breaks" a customer's equipment.
As for the DVR, yes, you will lose recordings. What you *can* do is either buy a Slingbox and put the DVR and Slingbox by theirselves or just put the DVR on a TV you don't watch a whole lot.
My silver remotes still work absolutely fine. If you want a newer "basic" remote, keep in mind that some buttons have changed. Those should be free, at least they are when mine stop working and I know for a fact they have new batteries.

  • How fast internet needed for AirPlay

I am thinking of buying Apple TV for Airplay Mirroring from my MacBook Pro and iPod Touch 5th gen purposes only. Like i want to play games on my mac but have them also on the TV on a bigger screen. But my internet connection is only 25 KB/s. Once a month it is 200-400KB/s, but that only happens for 4GB of data which i use pretty quickly. Please dont tell me how crap internet it is, i already know. I know that it is wayyy to slow for interent streaming, but when its on a local network only about 15 meters away, will i still be able to have no-lag streaming to Apple TV from my Mac? My MacBook Pro is not Retina it is from 2010. And my iPod is iPod Touch 5th gen. If it is too slow, i will have wasted $110, so please dont just guess give an educated answer. Thanks.

You don't need an Internet connection to use AirPlay or AirPlay Mirroring. You just need a router to connect the iPod touch, iPad, iPhone or Mac to the Apple TV, but it doesn't use Internet, so don't worry about the Internet speed.
If you have got a 2010 MacBook Pro, note that it's not compatible with AirPlay Mirroring, which needs an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro. To mirror your MacBook Pro's screen onto your Apple TV, use an application like AirParrot or Beamer

How big do you believe an ATV is?  They are tiny compared to most devices.
The ATV is the only AirPlay receiver, short of an actual AV receiver with AirPlay support, but those are MUCH larger.

  • Can ATV2 serve as source for Airplay speakers?  I'd like to send non-ITunes streaming (e.g. Netflix movies) to Airplay wireless speakers.
