  • DVI-to-VGA adapter disabled on HDMI-equipped monitors?

Can anyone with an Apple DVI-to-VGA adapter on a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo (both at 10.6.8, currently and probably forever) still connect to a second monitor if the monitor also has an HDMI port? I could until early 2011. From 2008 to 2010 I could connect to every VGA monitor through the DVI adapter.
I thought the DVI-out on my MBP died but got a newer MBP and it, too, doesn't work on any HDMI-equipped screens. Both computers and all my DVI-to-VGA adapters work fine on monitors without HDMI. Yes, I rebooted. No, it's not the cables. Again, all components otherwise work in other arrangements. I am not talking about any other setups. The HDMI-equipped monitors all work fine with miniDisplayPort-to-VGA plugs (today!) from newer Macs.
Any work-arounds? Anyone have a best-recommendation on an adapter that works still?

Thanks, BSteely, I have the latest QT and iTunes already. Closing the lid seems to kick the MacBook external display into some special mode that Front Row can't display videos in. For example, you get the Front Row interface, but as you select movies/TV shows, the preview window on the left side is blank. Open the cover, and have both displays going, and you can see the previews fine (and of course, you can see the movies/TV shows play fine as well when you click on them)
Running Quicktime Player full screen works fine without Front Row in either open or closed lid mode. So it is apparently something wrong with Front Row itself.

  • Work Environment in ESS

    Hi Experts,
I need to configure Work Environment in ESS . When i check standard  Application it is showing empty screen(Equipment monitor). Please provide me any document, Whcich guides step by step configuration.
    regards,
    Sree.

You need to create one active implementation of one Badi yes. They recommend to re-use the sample coding.
    You need to do this:
    Prerequisites
    ●      A technical prerequisite of this application is SAP ECC 5.00 Financials Extension.
    ●      In the Customizing of Employee Self-Service (mySAP ERP) under Specify RFC Connection to the HCM System you have defined the RFC destination for the selection of the personnel data.
    ●      You have created and activated an implementation of BAdI FCOM_EQM_EQUI_USER for finding equipment for users and users for equipment. You are recommended to adopt the sample coding.
    ●      Users have the authorization to display the objects (asset, equipment and object on loan).

  • UCS C Series hardware monitoring

Does anybody know how we could monitor the UCS C Series hardware (power supply, Hard disk, Memory ect...) within SolarWinds. We usually monitor servers via SNMP. It looks like there is the CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-EQUIPMENT-MIB that is supported on UCS manager 1.4 and above. When I to poll the box for those MIB's I get the OID is not supported. The UCS C Series server is on 1.3(2j) for the firmware version. Do we need to upgrade to 1.4 to get the equipment monitoring to work or is there another way? I notice a lot of users are monitoring B Series in Solarwinds but I haven't really seen anything on C Series.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • Cinema Display 24" won't work with Mac Mini 3.1

I recently purchased a refurbished Apple LED Cinema Display 24" from a buddy.  I'm pairing it with my used Mac Mini 3.1 (2009?). The display port mini connections seem to match.  The USB is plugged in.  The only cable unused is the "macbook power" plug, from the display.  I know the display and CPU both work fine independently. Cinema display seems to power the USB and "Macbook power".  I just can't get any life out of the display.  These 2 devices should work together right?  Is there a sceret power-button that I don't know about?

The video cards that ship with the current Pro have one Display Port and one mini DVI port.
There is an adapter to connect a DVI monitor to a Display Port connection. There is no such thing as an adaptor that will let you connect a Display Port equipped monitor to a mini DVI port on the graphics card.
Final Cut Pro uses dual monitors connected to the same graphics card. Using a twin graphics card setup causes problems with FX Plug FCP plugins, which can cause FCP to fail to launch.
The solution is to find a Graphics card with dual Display Port connectors, (if one even exists) or replace it with a grahics card that uses dual DVI ports, such as the ATI 3870 HD. Of course, the latter means that you cannot connect two 24" Apple Cinema Displays.

  • How to diagnose a broken 30 pin dock connector?

Is there a "diagnostic" application to determine if my Iphone 4 — 30 pin dock connector is fully functional? BTW - all lint and dirt has been removed (delicately). This iPhone has been able to perform TV/video out and mirror display with a (still) fully functional 30 pin to VGA connector, VGA cable and VGA equipped monitors. This phone currently cannot perform the same task. Only other variable is a conflict with iOS 6.1.3.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi there jsoard!
I have a website for you that can help you with some steps for troubleshooting that may help you resolve this issue. The website is an iPhone troubleshooting assistant, and can be found right here:

  • External TV Hook Up

Is there a special cable or adapter that allows hooking up an Imac G5 mini VGA port directly through to a standard VGA port of an external HDTV? Apple has an adapter, but it only allows hookup through an "S" video or composite video input on the TV. I want the best possible resolution on the 42" HDTV display. The TV has a VGA input, as well as, "S"video, composite, component, and HDMI input ports.
Apple sold us a mini VGA to "S" / composite adapter, but it seems there has to be a way to use the standard VGA port on the TV.

See this -> VGA Display Adapter
"Use Apple's VGA Display Adapter to connect the mini-VGA port on eMac, iMac G5, 12-inch PowerBook G4, or iBook to any VGA-equipped monitor or external projector for video-mirroring"

  • Adc Display and a G3

My G3 Blue and White PowerMac is running great running OS X but my clunky VGA monitor is starting to take up alot of desk space. I would like to add a 15" ADC Monitor to it (just to keep my apple apple) and I know that there are plenty of deals on them. I currently know that I need the DVI to ADC adapter with the power brick to support the monitors power needs, and that my VGA graphics card cannot support this at all. Leaving the question what is the best card for the job? Do I need a vintage sort of card or is there a newer card that will support it (computer and monitor). Thanks for your help. Oh and I'm going to upgrade to Tiger soon in the future if that helps. Thanks anything is appreciated.

I will try to answer your questions but I am not an expert.  Here's what I found...
Leaving the question what is the best card for the job? Do I need a vintage sort of card or is there a newer card that will support it (computer and monitor).
Your G3 B&W and older use PCI 66mhz slots for the graphics.  I did a search and found a decent selection of cards but none of them had an ADC connector.  I then did a search for ADC cards and they all required a AGPx2 slot or faster.  Using an Apple monitor with ADC connector requires power in the same cable which the original PCI slots could not provide.  Plus the ADC connector was not released by Apple until after AGP came in the G4's.
So it seems that you have a choice to make.  If keeping the G3 is your priority then you will have to find an Apple monitor with a DVI connector.  There is a decent selection of PCI cards that have VGA/DVI/S-video with a good amount of ram on them.  If getting an Apple LCD with ADC connector is your priority then you could get a used G4 with ADC card in it already.  Remember the first AGP G4's (sawtooth) don't have the power to run an ADC equipped monitor. All G4's that came after are fine. I just bought a G4 867 quicksilver off ebay for $150 shipped and it works great!
Oh and I'm going to upgrade to Tiger soon in the future if that helps.
Just a bit of advice.  If you are going to Tiger to meet software requirements or for needed features then by all means.  But if you are going to Tiger for speed then I would not recommend it on any G3.  I am using Tiger at work on a G4 400 and it runs fine but I would say it's bare minimum.  Panther would be the best system for a G3 both for speed and stability.  Plus most copies of Tiger come on a DVD.  You can find Tiger on CD's but they are hard to come by.  Panther came only on CD's.  Of course if you decide to get a G4 then Tiger will do nice.
Also remember that the actual acronym of Apples monitors is ACD = Apple Cinema Display.
The connector you are refering to is ADC = Apple Display Connector.
    Hope this helped.

  • An control application

    Hello to all people,
I'm trying to monitoring a set of rotative machinery. I want to shut down the machine when a monitoring parameter like vibration or rotate velocity overcomes a established limit or level. I was thinking to use a switch to develop this aplication, but I'm not sure about this. I will be very greateful if anyboby can give me some guidelines.
    Thanks.

    Jorge,
I would agree that certainly a switch of some kind should be employed to control the machine's power. If turning it on and off by either applying or removing current is the only way to control it, then likely the best option would be to use an external relay controlled digitally by either a PC, PXI system, or programmable automation controller (e.g. FieldPoint). When all parameters are within limits, the digital line would remain high, thus closing the relay and allowing current to flow. However, once something goes wrong (rotation or vibration out of limits), the digital line would go low and disconnect the switch.
As far as a choice of platform, do you already have some equipment monitoring the machine -- or are you starting from scratch?

  • Buzz from the Power Supply

I hear sometimes an anoying buzz noise from the power supply. It doesn't always starts when I boot the computer but after 10-20 minutes most of times it starts. I thought that maybe its a low power from my ups wich is 500VA. I conncecet the mac's AC cable directly to an ac outlet and still the noise exists. Has anyone passed any simiral problem.
    Thanks in advance
PS: Where can I find the Watts that the power supply needs. No specs in this site or in the manual.?

There are dozens of threads on "UPS"
My UPS with Mac Pro, ACD 23" along with modem and router hits 400W and I have APC RS1500VS (which I put in my sig for a reason) and once it gets to 50%+
If all you have is stock RAM and hard drive... get your system off its starvation diet.
I'm just telling you what I know and read and that you can confirm for yourself. Am I sure?
Use your small UPS for home entertainment equipment, monitor and modem and such, not for Mac Pro.

  • BADI  FCOM_EQM_CHANGE

    Hi,
I plan to use badi FCOM_EQM_CHANGE (method CHANGE_CONTENT) to show extra fields in the Equipment overview.
Has anybody an example of the coding needed, they would llike to share.
    Thanks,
    Vibeke

Below is from the BADI documentation
    Change Contents
    Functionality
This method enables you to display your own content in the Equipment Monitor or the Equipment Overview.
You do this by modifying the content of data table CT_EQM_DATA. You must fill the fields in accordance with the assigned data types (such as CHAR, DATE) and their length. The data (to-date and time) must be converted before the data is transferred into the table.
    Parameters
Parameter ID_VIEW_ID contains the current view in the Equipment Monitor or Equipment Overview:
EMPLOYEE corresponds to the Equipment Overview
COST corresponds to the cost view in the Equipment Monitor
ASSIGNMENT corresponds to the assignment view in the Equipment Monitor
Tables IT_ASSET_DATA, IT_EQUI_DATA and IT_LOAN_DATA contain detailed data for the fixed assets, equipment and loan objects. You can add them to the displayed data with the above restrictions.
If you discover additional inconsistencies between the objects, you can add messages to the table CT_OBJ_MESSAGES. You can determine the value for the column INDEX from the corresponding column in the table CT_EQM_DATA. For the INCONS column, only the corresponding domain values are permitted.
    Change Layout
    Functionality
If you want to have different columns or column headers in the Equipment Monitor or the Equipment Overview, you can change table CT_EQM_FCAT using this method. You can only change the fields VISIBLE and HEADERTEXT. You cannot add new fields.
    Parameters
Parameter ID_VIEW_ID contains the current view in the Equipment Monitor or Equipment Overview:
EMPLOYEE corresponds to the Equipment Overview
COST corresponds to the cost view of the Equipment Monitor
ASSIGNMENT corresponds to the assignment view of the Equipment Monitor

  • HT2452 startup takes 5 minutes now from gray screen to desk top, cursor wont move

i mac on start up gray screen for 3 minutes, then desk top comes up, cursor wont move

    Heat.... dust... dead/dying graphic card...
    4 yrs, original equipment
Monitor the system's temperature readings, open it up.
Your RAM will have a layer of dust on it, they attract dust, run very very hot.
    Boost the fan speed.
Keep the case where it gets cool air and vented but no direct sun.
Pull the video card. The X1900 was a huge dust magnet and would clog and kill itself if you don't pull it out and get the dust out.
List the general hardware, too, from System Profiler but exclude the serial no.

  • My Thunderbolt-port equipped 15" Macbook Pro (Early 2011) works with other monitors but not with my Thunderbolt Display.

I just got a thunderbolt monitor and excitedly, I plugged my early 2011 thunderbolt port equipped 15" Macbook Pro (running 10.8.2) into it and... no image on the monitor.
Ok, so I know that the TB display works because I plugged a mid-2012 13" Macbook Pro into it (running 10.7.5) and it works perfectly. In fact, I'm using it to type this message right now.
    Other details:
    - in both the displays preference pane and about this mac/system info, the 15" mbp recognizes the display, yet... no picture either clamshell open or closed. restarted with it plugged in and not plugged in, no difference. also? sound comes through the monitor.
    - ALSO, i plugged in a mini displayport monitor into the 15" port, and it displayed fine, so the port seems to be doing something.
    see my conundrum?

It should just work - if it's not working with your 2011 model (works just fine with my 15" late 2011, right out of the box) I would get in touch with AppleCare as soon as possible and see what the senior techs may have to say...

  • How do I connect my Mac Mini (DVI) to a monitor (VGA) and 2 TV's (HDMI)?  What equipment do I need?

I have an older Mac Mini with a DVI out.  Right now using a monitor with VGA in, and since my Mini came with the adapter, all is good.  However, I'm trying to use this setup to also connect 2 50" TV's that have HDMI's.  What would be the proper setup in order to run the mini and the monitor along with the TV's?  Thanks!
