Equipment needed for a proper CCIE Collaboration Lab

Currently at home I have a 1760 router, a 3550 switch a 5505 firewall, a Fortinet 60B, two Dell poweredge servers with ESXi, a DD-WRT router with QoS capabilities, and a dozen or so Cisco 7912 phones.
I'm going to be picking up a 2821 router and a POE 3560 switch in the next few days.  I have access to loads of WIC cards, PVDM2's and a CUE-NM module.  I also have all of the software (CallManager 9.1, Unity, UCCX, Presence, and MeetingPlace 8.6).  Cisco doesnt offer a temporary license for UCCX or MeetingPlace.  So I dont know if I'll be able to install it.  Anybody have any idea's for that?
What else should I put on my wish list to buy?  I dont have tons of money.  So the newer routers and switches are out of the question.  I know they expect you to have a 2900 router, a 3900 router, and a newer 4400-x switch.  But realistically, what would you be able to do on those that you couldnt on a 2800 and 3560?
I do think I'll need to break down and buy a pair of video phones.  I dont think there is a way around that.

Hi,
take a look at this:
https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/docs/DOC-20807 (requires login).
I don't know yet (I guess nobody does) why they changed the hw from 28xx to 29xx, PVDM2 to PVDM3.
About the switches, I guess if you've got a 3560, that would do, I can't imagine why would anyone need a newer version, unless there's something really, really specific.
UCCX license comes on the installation media (a temporary one, valid for a month, but come on, talk to your Cisco contact to generate one for you).

  • CCIE Collaboration Lab

Let say I came into a little extra cash and I wantto build a good CCIE Collaboration Lab for people that are studying for the exam to use.  I would like ot ask you the following questions:
    1. What equipment and licenses should I purchase?  My budget is 12-20,000  But I need to keep costs as low as possible.  Lower costs = more stuff for your to play with.
    2. Would you use such a service?
    3. How long of a session should a user be alotted per visist? 4 6 8 10 hours?
    4. What would you be willing to pay for a session?
    Any other suggestions?

  • What Equipment is Needed for CCNP Security Lab

    Hello,
Im Looking to find out what Devices are needed for a ccnp security home lab. I keep hearing that 2 5510's are a must for labbing. The downside Is the Prices avg $800 each on the low end. I also saw some ppl had an ips in their lab. Im looking to find out what is 100% needed. I alredy have a lab in place used for my ccnp r&s.
    Thanks

I would also say that two ASAs is a must to practice with them. But in my opinion, 2 5505 SecPlus are enough. What are the differences to the 5510? You configure subinterfaces instead of vlan-interfaces. But that's something you know from R/S. And the failover is only stateless, but failover in general also works. Sof if you find these ASAs for less money, take them. IPS is probably the topic where most CCNP Security students are least familar with. So owning a sensor would also help.
And don't forget that the bigger CCIE-Training vendors have complete labs for rent with all you need for CCNP Sec preparation. That could also save some money.

  • Disk configuration and workflow help needed for lab video workstation

    Hi All,
Setting up a video editing workstation for a research lab that will use Premeire to edit AVCHD Progressive clips (sometimes with 2 streams side-by-side, but usually single-camera) and export them to .mp4 for later viewing by video coders. We won't be using AfterEffects or adding anything to the videos other than some text (titles, maybe sub-titles).
The other purpose of this workstation is to act as a file server and backup system for other machines in the lab. Coders will be viewing the exported videos via other networked machines and working with Microsoft Office files that will be stored on the workstation's other HDDs. I'll have a physical backup drive and cloud backup via CrashPlan.
I've built a machine that is probably overkill, but the client (my wife) wanted it to be "fast," and the purpose of the machine might change in the future:
    i7-4770K (overclocked a bit)
    16GB RAM
    Asus Z87-Pro
    GeForce GTX 660
I have the OS (W7) and programs on a 256 GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD and currently have two 1TB Velociraptors to use for the Premiere workflow. I'm trying to figure out how to proceed with the purchase of the rest of the drives, and I want to keep the Premiere drives separate from the large storage drives from the lab that are networked and synced to cloud backup.
Following the recommendations for a three-disc configuration I've picked up on these forums, I could set it up like this:
C: (256GB SSD) (OS, programs, pagefile)
    D: (1TB HDD) (media, projects)
E: (1TB HDD) (previews, media cache, exports)
F: (4TB HDD) (backups of media, projects, and exports and storage of other research files)*THIS DRIVE WOULD BE SHARED ON THE NETWORK
G: (4TB external HDD) (backup of F & drive that backs up to CrashPlan)
but it seems that would be a waste of the speed of the second 10k velociraptor. If I added another SSD and RAIDed the Velociraptors it would be:
    C: (256GB SSD) (OS, programs)
D: (Two 1TB Velociraptors in RAID 0) (media, projects)
E: (256GB SSD) (media cache, pagefile)
but would I then need to add another dedicated HDD for previews and exports, or could I store those on the networked F: from above (which would be previews, exports, backups of media and projects, and storage of other research files) without taking a speed hit?
It seems overkill to have a dedicated drive for exports and previews (let's make that the new F:), then have them copy to the first 4TB drive (now G:), then back that up to the second 4TB drive (now H:), then back that up to CrashPlan. However, people might be accessing that network drive at any time, and I don't want that to slow any part of the video process down.
I appreciate any advice ya'll can give me!

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for the encouraging response. I'm leaning toward the non-SSD option at this point.
To make sure I understand, are you suggesting I try using the Velociraptor Raid 0 in the 2 disk configuration suggested by Harm's Guidelines for Disk Usage chart? Like this:
C: (256 GB SSD) (OS, Programs, Pagefile, Media Cache)
D: (1TB x2 in RAID 0) (Media, Projects, Previews, Exports)?
Where I'm still confused there, and in looking at Harm's array suggestions for 5 or more drives, is how performance is affected by having simultaneous read/write operations happening on the same drive, which is what I understood was the reason for spreading out the files on multiple drives. Maybe I don't understand how Premiere's file operations work in practice, or maybe I don't understand RAID 0 well enough.
In the type of editing we'll be doing (minimal) aren't there still times when Premiere will be trying to read and write from the D: drive at the same time, for example during export? Wouldn't the increased speed benefits of RAID 0 for either read or write alone be defeated by asking the array to do both simultaneously?
Maybe the reason the Media Cache is on the SSD in the above configuration is because that is what will be read while writing to something like Exports? But that wouldn't make sense given Harm's chart, which has the Media Cache also located on the array....
Another question is, given that the final home of the exported videos will be on the big internal drive (4TB) anyway, could I set it up like this:
C: (SSD) (OS, Programs, Pagefile, Media Cache)
    D: (2TB RAID 0) (Media, Projects, Previews)
E: (network shared 4TB HDD) (Exports + a bunch of other shared non-video files)
so I don't end up having to copy the exported videos over to the 4TB drive? Do you think it would render significantly faster to the RAID than it would to the 7200 rpm 4TB drive? I'd like to cut out the step of copying exported videos from D: to E: all the time if it wasn't necessary.
    Thanks again.

I think these days, any mac will do. Personally, I'd want to get one with Firewire since the interfaces I'd want to use are all firewire (with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions), and Thunderbolt isn't quite there yet with peripherals.
If your music goals are more ambitious, you might weigh higher-end options, but in terms of basic garagebanding around, any current mac should work fine.
M-Audio makes a variety of good keyboard controllers. I like the ones with at least a semi-wieghted keyboard like the Axiom series, or their fully weighted keyboards. I've got a keyboard background so the key action is important to me.
Here's a site that has a number of models on it to peruse.
    http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/keyboards/keyboard-controllers/
Best is if you can feel the actual keyboard to see if you would be happy with it. If you've had a piano background, you'll probably want a better physical action than the cheapest synth actions. However, if you're just getting started, that might be fine. Outside of the keyboard itself, M-Audio controllers work well, and offer good bang for the buck.
You would also want to get an audio interface. A link for those:
    http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/computer-audio/audio_interfaces/
A lot depends on your budget. If you're just starting you can get away with something for around $100 or so. Double or tripple that for better quality. Add a zero for something even more substantial. Firewire is generally better, although RME makes a great USB interface now although it's pricey. A lot of the less expensive USB interfaces are widely used and popular, presonus, m-audio, motu, mackie, etc. The good thing about the Sweetwater site is you can see what other people seem to be buying these days.

  • Add on needed for work, produces javascript error

My girlfriend is using an app she needs for work. It should generate a javascript window, but before it opens it it says Javascript Application TypeError: netscape.security.PrivilegeManager is undefined
Then the window that opens doesn't allow me to populate the fields in it.
Is there any way to get around this?

Support for enablePrivilege has been removed in Firefox (Bug 546848), so it is no longer possible to get special elevated privileges via the netscape.security.PrivilegeManager interface.
Extensions do not need to use this (they already run code with proper privileges) and if web page use this then they will have to use other ways get what they want like providing a Firefox extension.

  • How to estimate the time needed for unicode conversion

    Experts:
I am going to perform an upgrade from 46C (non-unicode) to ECC6/EHP4.
In the action plan , it's hard to estimate the time needed for unicode conversion.
We do not have a sandbox to benchmark that time.
Could you please help share your experience here?
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
usually it is very hard to estimate a proper time.
There are some hints to get a rough feeling (SAP note 857081 and [SMP link|http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000380759&_OBJECT=011000358700001279022010E] ).
However please note that SAP highly recommends to do a Sandbox conversion - otherwise there is a high risk that the PRD conversion will take (much) longer than expected.

  • Performance Based Equipment Document for Projects

    Dear All,
We are implementing Performance based equipment process in ETM module. We want to create PBE document for projects where we want to enter the WBS against each line item in PBE document.
Currently we are able to create the recipient with reference type WBS where we assign WBS element and the same we are assigning in the PBE document to populate the WBS in PBE document. Here the issue is, we have to create the recipient for each WBS element to create the PBE document as WBS element will get populated for  the recipient. We are not able to enter the WBS element directly in the PBE document as it is in non editable mode in the screen.
Could any body suggest how to enter the WBS element directly in the PBE document without the reference of recipient as we have thousands of wbs elements and creating recipient for each wbs element is not feasible.
    Thanks and regards,
    Basavaraj

    Hi,
There are multiple questions in your query.
    1. You have to define a counter for finding the performance based maintenance
    2. Measurement document needs to be updated regulary by putting the counter reading.
    3. Call objects will happen based on Plan and scheduling Or deadline monitoring by considering the updated measurement reading.
    4. Running Deadline monitoring is based on frequency of the calls needed. may be daily or weekly or monthly (Example: Every week  maintenance  (Week time interval calls) for an equipment needs atleast weeky once deadline monitoring)
    Thanks

Here I am explaining what is my requirement.
I have created collaboration room and added room admin and members to the

  • Is there a wider need for an industrial spec, hard cased, scratch and bump resistant iPad and iPhone? (one that is more robust to outdoors and an engineering environment.

Is there a wider need for an industrial spec, hard cased, scratch and bump resistant iPad and iPhone? (ones that are more robust in the outdoors and an engineering environment.) With the acceptance of app based problem solving in industry, the only obstacle to purchasing apple products seems to be their emphasis on providing an asthetic product that looks cool. Industry however, needs something that is harder wearing, splashproof/showerproof, work in the cold and dirt and is fully wipeable. If such an apple product existed I believe they would move units.

I use the ipad in a hydrometallurgical plant.  Lots of dust, harsh chemicals, and where equipment come to die.
I've used laptops/ tablet pcs.  All having a very bad problem of sucking in air to cool the computer.  The slight acid mist in the air corrodes the contacts in the computer and they last ~ 4 months.
I have moved on to using a ipad currently in a glorified zip lock bag from the internet that has been working for the last year.   I haven't dropped it yet so that's great.  Most of my applications are done in a virtualized environment where i connect in to using RDP.
It works flawlessly.  When the zip lock bag i'm usign gets too scratched up to read easily, I just replace the 10$ bag.
I do want another case.  I am waiting on the lifeproof case coming out for the ipad2.  Shockproof, dustproof, and waterproof.   Much classier than my zip lock bag solution.
Within my plant, there is 4 ipads.
they have fit the bill so far.  Only downfall of ipad for our windows enterprise system is the lack of sharepoint browsing natively within the ipad.  I can do it with RDP but come on. . .

  • Equipment charge for phone sent back!

Due to malfunctions my daughter returned 2 phones. Each was sent via Fed Ex with the paperwork supplied by Verizon. She even called asking if the phones were received and told yes. This month we see an equipment charge for $559.99 on our bill! She immediately called and asked what the deal was and is being told they never received one of the phones. She was told that they initiated an investigation and we don't have to pay the amt for the equipment charge at this time.
What do you make of this? How can she prove that the phone was in fact sent back and that a customer service person verified that they did receive it? I haven't called myself because I don't feel that I really know much about the situation as she took care of it all.

Did you keep your tracking numbers from each shipment so you could track them? If you had that and it showed delivered on the FedEx WebSite, that would be all you would need.

The iPad is a tablet. Not a phone. It cannot make a "direct" call as it is not equipped to do that.
Skype may serve to do something like you want, indirectly accessing conventional phones thru their exchanges, at a cost. Likewise, if your organization has Cisco VOIP infrastructure, the Cisco Jabber app can let you connect and call.
