Equipment Number Range Clarification

Hi,
I have defined the below number range as Creation of Equiment Master (Txn. IE01) for Category Q / Z.
AAA-0000-AAA ZZZ-9999-ZZZ
During creation, I would like to change the number as like EDP15890UYT. Can I use the below user exit for the same. If so, can you please pass the code.
IEQM0003 -> EXIT_SAPMIEQ0_001

Equipment number ranges are defined at client level. Probably what I could suggest is to create new equipment category for different plants and for that you can assign different number ranges.

I dont think we can achieve the Internal Alphanumeric Number Range for Equipment
The Alphanumeric no range has to be set externally where either a User or an External System can assign the number

Equipment Number Range Doubt

In OIEN; i have kept number range as xxxx-yyyyyyyyyy (4110)
But i can create equipement upto 18 characters without any error / block. Why?
I want system should give me error when number range is more than 15 characters but currently i can create upto 18
Please let me know what needs to be done so that system checks this number range

External number range in equipment

Hello!
I want to create a number range in equipment which contains letters, numbers, symbols.
For example equipment numbers like:
A125D-6
1-DSDV

Hi, if you pres F1 help in OEIN it is written:
"External intervals can only contain either letters or numbers, as sorting can differ between platforms (Code page):
Allowed: 000001 to 999999
AAAAAA to ZZZZZZ
Not allowed: AAAAAA to 999999
So it looks like either leters or numbers but not both.
However you can ask also in Plant Maintenance forum

Problem in number range assignment to equipment category

Hi Gurus,
I have created equipment categories & now want to maintain no. range for them. But by mistake i have assigned the categories to standard no. range group (PM) .Now i want to reverse it by deassigning to its original place.Please suggest me the way how i can do it so that i can create a new no. range group & assign equipment categories there.
Also to activate the check box for external number range i am not able to activate or deactivate the check box.Please suggest for this problem also.

Dear,
For deassigning to it's orignal place
Select the category
Press the select element or F2
Select the Not Assignt (at bottom of the screen)
Press the Element/Group or F5
For creating a new no. range
Select Group at Menu Bar
Select Insert
Now give he Text and give the no. range
u can not activate or deactivate External check box. See there are two lines if u want to give external no. range then assign the no. range at second line where external no. range check box is already activated.

Clarification on these comments on SDN about NUMBER RANGES

In a previous discussion here, it was argued that the u201CNumber Range is not generated for every process. Number Range is generated say in case of sales orderu201D
I read that the Number range is to basically improve performance by assigning those numbers from a user assigned range.
1. What are these user assinged range numbers(Number ranges) replacing?
2. Or, are we saying that if you have e.g Sales Orders, then the sale order NUMBERs, are what we are now assigning from the u201CNumber Rangeu201D we define? i.e What type of transactions required a number range?
3. If #2 is a true statement, then it is even becoming more confusing. Isnu2019t the Sales Order Numbers coming from the transactional system to BI? ..and if we recreate these numbers in BI wonu2019t it lead to inconsistencies between the source data and BI data?
4. I checked the talbe NRIV and found a column for u201CObject Namesu201D and u201CSub Object valueu201D, what do those represent?
5. What is the difference between the numbers in NRIV and what you assigned? And where do you assign the Number Ranges, if you need to create your own?
6. I first heard of Number Range while reviewing u201CLine Items Dimensionsu201D but I still do not see how Number Ranges relate to Line Item dimension. Any help?

When you said "if you buffer" you meant if you assign a number range, right?
Does "buffering" mean you are providing a range of numbers for the Data Manager to use in place of DIM IDs?
How do do you do that? in BI or on R3?
I am reading a document which talks about SNRO and VOV8 but all these transactions are for R3 and not BI. Where are you doing the buffering you are referring to?

Aren't the Sales Order Numbers generated in R3 and extracted to BI?
Can you overwrite transaction in R3 which includes Sales Order Numbers with new Numbers you are buffering in BI? Won't that lead to mismatch of information in BI and that of R3?

Some external number range are not valid for equipment creation

Hi All,
What could be the reason even though the external number range is maintained for equipment category as a combination of ALFA Numeric, for certain combinations, system accepts while creating Equipment and for certain combination of ALFA numeric number, system is throwing error " equipment number not in external number interval".

As your define No. Range is :000AAA-1000 to 000ZZZ-9999.You can Not use No which Involves the Alphbatic Value as "AAA" As it is begaining of your number range .You can Check another upcomimg number which just fall after "AAA" is "ABA"it will accept.Number which come with "AAA" will not accept by system.So you need to start your numbering form the next number of your Define Lower Limit(starting point) value that is "ABA-....."

External Number Range setting for Equipment Not working

As per the Requirement I have assigned A00000000000 - ZZZZZZZZZZZZ to an equipment category through OIEN.
but I am getting the error message in the IE01 screen whenever I try to create an equiment with some external number for this category.
Equipment category does not allow alphanumeric equipment number
Can some one help whether anyother settings are needed.
(It is to be noted that system gives correct error message if I try to create equipment without giving external number - No internal number range defined for equipment category)

Alphnumeric External Number range for Equipment category

Hi,
Is there any other option that I can restrict length of external alpha numeric number range except that exit IEQM0003? This exit only applicable or restrict when you save the equipment.
Requirement is like external number range should be like AAA-000 to ZZZ-999. System must not allowed any other equipment number which is out of this range. ( must be 7 character)
As far as my understanding , system use string comparison once you use alphanumeric number range and you can create equipment with 18 char length except special character if above range is maintained.
Please correct me if i am wrong and suggest.

Hi Zenith,
Its not available in Standard SAP, please use the user exit and tell the ABAPER to check the Equipment numbering (count) before entering into Creation screen. In IE01,entering equipment Number, Category and date after completion of this activity when we enter continue icon there u can put a condition to check the length of equipment number. I implemented that user exit and i got the result. its working fine. User Exit: IEQM0003.

The external number range for Equipment master

Dear Experts,
My client has requirement to use KKS code as Equipment number as they want to create Notification and Maintenance order using the KKS code.
For example 10H, 10BEB, 20BHB04, 10LBG10AA001, 10HLA13AA001A, 10ETG10AN001-E etc.
All these KKS codes has different character length hence it's not fit in any number range.
can anyone suggest the external number range that I can use for above requirement?

I have checked again. It is working correctly. Remember that the following setting the check box below the column A should be empty. This allows Alphanumeric characters in the numbers.

                      Thank ylu for you reply. I changed to new number range. But thing is that , the older range exists and retriving when I was checking in the IE03.Now I have two problems..
1).The new format which I have given with etrernal range, system is taking any format rather specified format. But range it is checking accurately.
2) If any sales return is there for the older format equipment, how to process that with the new format.

Create Equipment with same Number rang at Diff Equipment Catagory

Hallo Guys,
client bymistake created some equipments which are actually PRT with catagory M ( Machine)
now they made deletion indicator to that and inactive the part and now want to create same machine as a PRT with same number range interval
as that of made at machine, but as per std system is not allowing to create duplicate records.
How to achive this ?

If no Equipments were created after the Deleted Equipments then you may have an option.
Tcode OIEN
Go to Number range interval, Then the Current number can be changed as under. Reduce this Current number by those many equipments. Then new equipments will have the same numbers of the deleted equipments
You should do it in trial servers and if suits to you then you can decide to go ahead. You should be prepared to have filters in Selection-screes to avoid the DLFL INAC equipments appear in the reports
