Equium A100-306 Is the monitor out on the side the same as a DVI out?

Hello i was wondering is the monitor out on the side of my laptop the same as a DVI output? I am looking to connect my laptop to my hd tv, what is the best way? Can i use some sort of HDMI cable? Like a DVI to HDMI cable? Or is there a special cable for this?
When i try to use the svhs cable the screen is in black and white. Do i need to change any settings to rectify this?
Can anyone help please?
Thanks in advance.

Why to HDMI? Why is this HDMI port so important to you? Your notebook has S-Video port and this port is for Video transfer to external device like the TV. The same situation is on my Tecra notebook
You have three possibilities to connect your notebook to the TV:
- using S-Video cable
- using chinch adapter http://www.nikomp.com.pl/opisy/AY000/AYVCW12N.jpg
- or using SCART adaptor http://www.lenexpo-electronics.com/e_italy/i/AdattatoreScartSVHS.jpg
It is important to enable the right port on the TV. Please note that on this way only the picture will be sent to your TV. If you want to send the sound you must use adaptor like http://ecommerce.intermediae.it/images/07628G.jpg and connect sound cable to the TV. Because of that I recommend you to use SCART adaptor and you can connect all cables there (video and audio).
I have tested it with my BRAVIA LCD TV and it works well.

  • Equium A100-306: Cannot set 1440x900 resolution on external monitor

Has anyone else come accross this problem? I've searched the web with no success and there doesn't seem to be any programs that will force the graphics into this resolution. Only appears to be linux based systems that have a complex solution for this. I have a new A100-306.
The maximum output I get is 1280x1024 which is ok but just lacks that final crispness.
I believe the solution will be an update to the video bios but this is a manufacturer update and not an intel one? As the machine is that new there doesn't appear to be any updates as yet. If anyone has a solution please post, otherwise Toshiba please hurry with an updated driver.
    thanks

    Hi
I have read several positing here in the forum about the different screen resolutions which are not available for the external screen.
Fact is that if any screen resolution is not available so the graphic driver doesnt contain this display resolution in the list. In such case you have to use the common screen resolution which is available. But this is not a problem.
Furthermore every display support a own resolution. I mean that the display work with one resolution which is the best for this display. Then the display and the picture is very clear and as you said crispness.
On my display I can choose several display resolutions but the best resolution for my display 1280x800.

  • Black screen on Equium A100-306 after watching movie on external projector

    Hi!
I've got Equium A100-306 Laptop and it was working fine. Yesterday I plugged in a projector and watched the movie.
Once i finished the movie i switch it off and disconnected the projector.
After few hours later i tried to switch my laptop and found that the inital screen loads up after that there's nothing in the screen.
I could go in the BIOS but couldn't go the Safe mode. I still remember i did use Fn and F5 key but nothing comes up so any help could be much appreciated.
As the initial screen loads up i don't think there's a problem on screen neither on graphic card as the toshiba logo shows up at the starting.
Can anyone help to figure out if tht's a hard disk problem may be.

Hmm for me it looks like the display was set ONLY to an external display device (projector, external monitor, etc) and therefore you are not able to see anything on the notebooks internal screen.
I think you should connect the projector or an second external monitor to this notebook and should try to set the display back to the default settings (notebook screen only)
The FN+F5 combination should help you.
As far as I know the notebook changes the screen output in this order:
*Internal screen* *(CRT) external screen + internal screen* *(CRT) external screen only* *TV (s-video out) + internal screen* *TV only (s-video out)*
So possibly you have chosen the last device (s-video out only)

  • Equium A100-306 Question about ModusLink Vista Upgrade

    Hi,
I purchased a Equium A100-306 in November prior to deploying on operations as I am in the forces and was unable to upgrade before this.
I have just returned and have found out I can no longer get my Vista upgrade as I have missed the deadline. I have E-mailed ModusLink with no response. I was wondering if anyone has any advice or could help me resolve this problem.
I feel I should not miss out on the free upgrade due to circumstances out of my control. Looking through the documentation I received with my laptop there was no deadline stated it is only on the internet the deadline is made clear but I was unable to check this out.
    Thanks for any help.
    Greg

Ivan is right. The moduslink company is responsible for the XP to Vista upgrade.
It controls the upgrade procedure for all computer companies which offer this upgrade.
However, I dont think that you will be able to order the Vista upgrade if you have missed the deadline but of course nothing is impossible and you should really ask the moduslink guys if you can take this offer good luck buddy

  • Equium A100-306: Question about stereo line input recording

I want to record to my laptop and as, frustratingly, it hasn't got a stereo line input.
I have acquired a Behringer USB line adaptor (UCA202). This allows playback through my stereo system (with adjustable output level through the sound card) but input level is too high and can't be adjusted by any means I have tried.
Is there a solution to this that can be followed by an enthusiast?

Thanks for the information. I shall explore the software option as the thread you mention looks very relevant even though it relates to a different model.
If that doesn't work or proves too complex to install/configure I thought the Echo Audio Indigo IO sound card might do the trick.
It's ironic that the Equium A100-306 was sold as a multi-media laptop but doesn't have a line input.

  • Can I add a better graphic card to Equium A100-306?

As the title suggests is it possible to add a graphics card to an A100 - 306 Equium in order to better handle games?
    Any thoughts/comments much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello,
Honestly no its not possible. Every model has a set list of parts that can be ordered, and if your model has a graphics card of 128MB the only video card an ASP can order is the one listed for your model. The equium A100-306 is different for instance then the Equium A100-307. From looking at the parts list for your computer, your Graphics card is integrated on the MB, meaning you can not even upgrade it if you wanted. Sorry, no chance for an upgrade on your Notebook.

  • What is a different between Satellite and Equium A100-306

This is general question really but as the end result may be the A100-306 I have placed it here. Could anyone explain why two laptops which look identical and have similar features are called either Satellite or Equium. I have a A100-583 now and thinking of getting a second laptop. I see the Equium has similar features, although has core 2 duo and media centre. However I see other Toshibas similar under the name Satellite. What dictates the naming?
Question 2 relates to the chips. What is the relevance of the number after the chip, in this case T5500. Trying to find the answer is not easy for me at least. Some models do not even appear on the intel site at all now. On another forum I have seen someone describe it like this.
"The Core 2 Duo T5500 is a bottom of the range core 2 duo, which is dual celeron core, so dont expect too much from it".
    Are they right?
Any help in explaining the above appreciated

    Hello
I am not 100% sure but Equium and Satellite notebooks are actually the same notebooks but Equium is the name for UK market. Thats all! If the hardware configuration is the right one it is not important how the notebook description is.
About processor I can not tell you much but everything you need you will find under http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/asmo-na/eng/products/mobile/processors/index.htm
I dont know why some people write dont expect too much from it. I am sure you will be very satisfied with notebook performance and if you need more of it you can expand RAM anytime. After doing this the notebook will run definitely faster as before.

  • Cursor flickering rapidly on Equium A100-306

Having bought my new A100-306 laptop in December, I`m now having problems with the cursor flickering rapidly (and disappearing altogether when the mouse is not being moved) on certain 3D applications/games like The Sims 2 and Home Designer 3D.
I`ve downloaded the latest video driver for the intel 945GM graphics card, but there`s still no improvement. The problem is I can`t see where the mouse is unless I keep moving it and even then the rapid blinking is very annoying.
Would anyone know how to cure this problem please and if it`s a common problem with this model? As far as I can recall, we did have a week without trouble when we first loaded The Sims 2 originally.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Regards
    Giles

Thanks for the quick response. I don`t get the same problem with Windows, word, and excel. I too had a thought that the grahics card could be struggling, but I`m sure we didn`t have a problme with the Sims 2 when we first loaded it. Unfortunatley I don`t recall loading anything either on the day that the problem first appeared. Will try altering the settign as you suggest.
On a connected point, though, I clicked on Media Centre yesterday (hadn`t used this until now) and had real problems with the cursor again during the intial set up - sometimes it was there, sometimes it had vanished and the only way I could get it back was to wait for the icons at the top of the set up screen to disappear (which they tended to do after about 10 seconds of being displayed) and then hit the touchpad. Sometimes I had to try this 2 or 3 times to get a cursor to appear and even then it was a struggle to complete the set up process.

  • Equium A100-306: built-in speakers do not play some sounds

I have had my A100-306 for 2 weeks, and my built-in speakers do not play some sounds. This problem has only arisen over the last few days. When I go through the control panel to speaker settings it says there is no speakers.
Can any one advise me as to what to do to fix this problem?

    Very strange
I think you should check several possibilities:
    - connect the headphones and check if you can hear the sound through the headphones.
    - Please check the device manger. Do you see any yellow exclamation marks???
Try to remove the sound card and remove the sound driver.
After new reboot try to reinstall the sound driver again.
    - On the notebook the Realtek HD sound effect manager should be installed.
    Please check there the settings.

  • Equium A100-306 - Using with LCD TV only

My laptop has a broken lcd screen and I would like to continue to use the computer with my Sony Bravia tv acting as a monitor.
I have connected a VGA lead between the two appliances and have been unsuccessful in getting the computer to display on the TV screen despite pressing all kinds of fn/f5 combos. I can make out the colours on the broken lcd enough to tell when I am at the password prompt and can sign in successfully to the desktop.
I cannot, however, recognise any of the options when right clicking at this stage. Sometimes when I press fn/f5 the broken laptop screen goes either blank or has a different mash of colours.
I think some kind of 'blind start-up' prompted by someone with the same model may help. Any help would be gladly appreciated.
    RDV

    Hello Macius.
My Bravia has 4 x HDMI ports, 2 x scart, 1 x red/white/yellow 3.5mm, 1 x S-video RGB, 1 x VGA. The inputs are clearly labelled on the back/side of the tv set, and I am 100% sure that I understand which one of these corresponds to each particular option on the input menu. I have been unsuccessfully trying to connect to the 'PC' option with a VGA lead. The Bravia distinguishes between active/occupied and empty ports by brightly illuminating the options when it recognises an input. At no point has the 'PC' option illuminated brightly.
Unfortunately the VGA lead was quite expensive and with hindsight it seems an S-video lead may have been a better option. Did you have to press any keys on your laptop or mouse click on a menu to connect via S-video or VGA, Macius? Obviously I can't do this and be confident I have made the right selection as my display is unreadable.
As I stated in my original post, I think somebody with the same (or very similar) model laptop who uses VGA to tv would be of the most assistance, as they could prompt me through the process - at worst, eliminating the fact that I could be toggling the wrong option using fn/f5.
    Cheers,
    RDV.

  • Does Equium A100-306 have bluetooth and how do I get the mic to work?

Hi there, please forgive stupidity but am new to the world of technology!!! Have tried to activate bluetooth to accept my mobile but to no avail.. starting to think there was a mis-print on the box!!! please help, does this model have it and how do I get it to work.. 2nd question...
Do I need to get external microphone? Was told the internal one would work when making calls however, no-one can hear me and I've tried to alter settings, to be honest have no clue what i'm doing? help me please anyone..... thanks Eva *

I can confirm this. The notebook does not support the BT module and does not support internal mic. If you want to use the microphone you have to use a external one. You can connect it to the external mic jack. Thats all.
But what do you exactly want to do??? Do you want to transfer the images from mobile phone to notebook??
In such case you could use an USB cable which was especially designed for such mobile phones for connecting to the notebook or desktop PC

  • Equium A100-306: Vista doesn't read MMC cards - MMC1 device has no driver

Have installed all the vista drivers from the toshiba support page and my card reader reads SD cards well.
However when I insert an MMC card Vista searches for drivers but cannot find any. Says MMC1 Device has no drivers.
    Help Please

Did your Equium read MMC card with XP? If yes, then I suggest you to reinstall your drivers and check if you forgot to download some drivers to download/install.
Sometimes you can find drivers which are not on the european website on the canadian website of toshiba:

  • Need network driver for Equium A100-306 (PSAABE)

    Hi,
I have completed a rebuild of XP OS
The driver I download from the site has no setup.exe file it seems to only have a PROUnstl.exe file which uninstalls the driver.
I can only see one "Network" driver called lan-20071009151457.zip the other newtork drivers are wireless.
Can anyone supply me with the correct driver or download loaction.
    Thanks inadvance for you help
    Ciaran

    Hi!
You founded and downloaded the right driver. You find all drivers on the Toshiba website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
To install a driver you dont need a .exe-file. Look in the device manager and right click on the network card, now choose update driver.
Then you can install the driver.
    Bye!

  • Equium A100-306 freezes and hangs

My laptop uses to freeze and hang, I have done windows recovery and reinstalling the windows for 2 times. At the moment the problems are:
The system is very slow, takes ages to come up.
When I use voice chat, laptop freezes and hangs.
Please give me an advise what I should do.

    Hi
If you want to have faster start up check which processes and applications start with OS and disable all of them you do not need. The start up time will not take so much time as before. Here some useful tips:
Spyware and adware can significantly slow startup. If your notebook is taking long time to launch, it could be because of spyware or adware. It is recommended to use some anti-spyware/adware program.
Another possible reason your notebook startup is slow: too many installed programs on it, many of which have components that must be launched at startup. Removing unwanted programs will help improve startup performance. To remove a program in Windows XP, select Start, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, select the program you want to delete, and click Remove. Unfortunately, programs must be removed one at a time. If in doubt, don't delete.
Windows system tray, located in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen, contains small icons for programs that automatically start with the OS and run in the background and they slow your notebook's startup.
Some system-tray-resident programs let you disable their automatic startup routine. Place your cursor over a program icon you don't think you need to start up automatically and right-click. Select Open, Options, Preferences, or something similar and look for an option that enables the program to automatically start with Windows. Disable the option. The changes should take effect when you restart. If you need those programs you can launch them from the Start menu when they're needed.
Some applications automatically place a shortcut icon in the Startup folder to ensure they launch with Windows. You can put a stop to that. Right-click the Start button and click Explore. Windows Explorer launches with the Start menu selected by default. Click the plus sign next to Programs and click Startup. Shortcut icons will be listed in the right-hand pane. If you're sure you don't need any of the programs to launch automatically, delete or remove the shortcuts from there and then restart your notebook.
Not all programs install an icon in the system tray and run in the background--and yet, they still start up automatically with Windows. You can use Windows' System Configuration Utility to stop programs and tasks from starting up automatically.
Click Start > Run > Type "msconfig" > Choose the Startup tab. Remove the checks from any tasks you want to prevent from automatically launching. Click OK. You'll need to restart for changes to take effect. Click Restart and Windows XP will restart with only the system services and applications running resulting in a very fast logon / startup.
This tweak will disable all non-system startup services and applications so if you have anything you want to run in the background such as anti virus software do not disable that item.
About freezing I can not tell you much. Which voice chat application you use?
