Equium A100-338 - battery power problem

Hi,
My daughter has a Equium A100-338 bought in the UK 15 months ago, running Vista Home Premium. It has recently developed a problem with the battery life, which in theory should mean replacing the battery, but I'm not so sure!
The battery runs down quickly to say 80% 6 mins remaining, about 20 minutes after a full charge. Then putting it on charge it recovers to 100% in about 20 minutes. The laptop does get rather warm underneath, but I think that's probably normal, my other daughter's older Equium gets warm just the same.
Has anyone come across this issue, or is it just that it needs a new battery? I would have thought it should have lasted longer, as the other Equium's battery is still going strong and is a year older!
Thanks
Dave

Hi
Hmm I think you battery is not dead and can be used much longer as you think.
I see youve got Vista on your notebook. This OS needs more notebook resources as the Win XP for example. This would also mean that the Vista preinstalled notebooks would run shorter on battery power as the notebook with Windows XP.
Last but not least the battery working time depends strongly on the notebook usage.
If you would play some games or would watch DVD movies then the battery would discharge faster.

  • Equium A100-338 - Flash Card not Responding

Everytime I close down World of Warcraft something pops up in the top left hand corner (looks like it should be a window but only top bar showing) which reads 'Toshiba Flash Card (Not Responding)'. What can I do to stop this from happening?
Im pretty sure it pops up throughout the game as well as I hear a ding.
    I have a Equium A100-338.
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi,
a solution can be disabling the flash card service if you dont need your flash drive.
You can disable it just by following these steps:
    - Go into Start -> settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services
    - Make a right click on "Smart Card" and left-click on "Properties"
    - In the window which pops up you have to stop the service and disable it with choosing "Disabled" at the option "Startup Type"
After that your flashdrive service is disabled and you wont get that annoying errormessage anymore.
    (I hope so :O )

  • Equium A100-338 - Do I have to buy a recovery disk?

    Hi,
I have a bit of a dilemma. The vista sticker on my Toshiba Equium A100-338 has worn out (was like that when I bought it). I upgraded my hard drive, installed Windows 7, then gave my old one away (forgetting it had the recovery partition on it). I want to sell the laptop so returning to its original state would be ideal.
Toshiba said I must buy a recovery disc for 29.90, which is ridiculous. Can anyone else help me?
Laptop details: Toshiba Equium A100-338 PSAAQE-006008AV
    Cheers

    Hi!
If you want the factory settings back as the first time you started the notebook you have to buy a Toshiba recovery disk. This disk contains an image of the factory settings and so you can install the notebook in few minutes with all Toshiba drivers and tools.
But I dont understand why this is ridiculous for you. I mean normally you get on Toshiba notebook with Vista after the first start a message that you should burn the recovery disk yourself. This takes only 10 minutes and you need only one or two DVD disks. I did this on my Toshiba notebook and I think you should take 10 minutes from your free time to do this too.
However, nobody says that you have to buy the disk because you can also use a Microsoft disk and download the Toshiba stuff on the Toshiba page but therefore you need a lot of more time.
    Bye

  • Equium A100-027: Toshiba Power Saver Utility

I have a Toshiba Equium A100-027 laptop and the fan goes on every couple of minutes after it has been on for 15 minutes and it is highly annoying.
I was told I could change the Cooling Method so that fan goes on less or constant but I can't seem to run the Power Saver Utility.
I uninstalled the Value Pack that came with the laptop and long with some other Toshiba programs but I installed it again from the website but I cannot find the Power Saver Utility. It is not in Control Panel. I see a folder with the files in on Program files but whenever I try and open it, it wont load anything.
    Why is this?
Can I run the Power Saver Utility on the A100-027 or is it not compatible or something?
I would have thought it should work on all Toshiba Laptops.
I can do a recovery and try it but I don't know if it will work or not?
If it works, whats the best option so the fan is either on much less or is on constantly at a lower speed?
I am sending the laptop to Toshiba to look at because I hear an audio glitch/crackling/fuzzing when I play music and the fan goes on and off and I think this must be some kind of small glitch to be fixed but I don't know if they can fix it. If they don't fix it, can they replace it?

There are no BIOS updates for my Laptop Model.
I have done a system recovery using the recovery disk and the audio glitch/crackling/fuzz persists and the fan runs at the same rate.
The laptop will be with Toshiba Engineers on Monday but I don't know if they will hear or notice the problem or if they do if they will fix it.
I hope they can either fix it or replace the laptop for me.

  • Equium A100-027 PSAAQ - having problems accessing Internet with WLan

Just installed WXP on my Equium A100-027 (PSAAQ) as Vista did not like. Now am having problems accessing Internet. What drivers do I need to download and how do I install them?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I would suggest you to check the driver site of toshiba
    -> http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
search for your machine and download the wlan drivers. If you dont know which one you need just download all of them and install em, one of that drivers MUST work. ;)

  • Equium A100-338: Vista explorer not working properly

Windows explorer does not seem to work properly.
It get messed up and i have to restart windows explorer. Can some one please help me solve this problem.

Sorry but your postings does nor say anything precise what happen exactly when you start Vista explorer and how should we know what you mean exactly.
By the way: does this issue occur since first day of notebook usage? Maybe you have installed something that has negative influence to it.

  • Macbook Rev 2,1: Shutdown on battery power problem

    Computer in question:
    Macbook Rev 2,1 ("Late 2006")
5 months old (as of purchase)
    2,16 GHz Core 2 Duo
1 GB 667 MHz DDR RAM
    80 GB HD
    Battery in question:
Model # A1185 (A1175 was the official recall batch)
    Serial # - - - - - - - - - X36A
Problem: The battery is fully charged but the system will shutdown after about 1 or 2 seconds on battery power. This will happen if the system is already turned on or if it is starting with the power off.
When I removed the battery I noticed that while it still fit into the macbook's housing, that it was not fitting as designed. The battery was either larger or warped beyond something close to normal. I base this assertion on the fact that locking the battery into place was not smooth as expected, even with the battery being firmly held in place to line up the 2 locking tabs with the indents on the battery.
The problem has been noticed over the last day or two. It's worth noting that recently the LED on the magsafe connector has at times turned off recently as well. I actually became sure of there being a problem when I disconnected/reconnected the magsafe connector to see if the LED would relight (it did)
The battery is above its normal or average temperature, but not dangerously hot. I haven't tested with any kind of thermometer but it is worth noting.
Please take my word that the battery is fully charged and that this is not a software issue. Additionally I have updated to 10.4.10, read about similar problems (including on these forums), and pursued standard 'fixes' such as resetting the PRAM, NVRAM, and PMU, running applejack, etc. just to be certain.
Why I am posting if I already think I know the problem:
I am confident that I have correctly determined the cause of the problem. However this is my first Mac. I have helped friends with their Macs for years, but this is my first personal experience with the Apple warranty. I abstained from buying Applecare at the time of purchase, but because of my first problem I will be purchasing the extended 3 year warranty.
I am asking for advice on the best manner of proceeding. I live in Vancouver, BC Canada and I will not be making a trip across the border to Seattle just to visit an Apple store. I know from the web that there is a community of reputable Apple dealers in Vancouver.
I can't phone Apple because I have not yet bought the extended Applecare. Apple does provide a list of local authorized dealers who can handle warranty work.
My concern is that I will have to ship off my laptop (which still works perfectly when plugged in) and then wait for a predictable result. Ideally I would like to bring the macbook in, have it inspected, a new battery ordered and then keep the macbook with me while I await the battery delivery at which time I could swap them. I have read of others who have been able to do this at their local Apple store and would appreciate any advice to make this a positive experience.
    - Thanks

Have you done the battery update?
If you have and still have problems you can call the apple contact number that is listed in the update. There is a link that has the Canadian numbers. They can help you get a new battery.
FYI in your specs you listed having a 2.16 GHz C2D. These just came out. Since yours is late 2006 it is probably a 2.0 GHz C2D.

  • Does Equium A100-338 have bluetooth?

    Hi,
I am a new notebook user and I wondered if anyone can tell me if my A100-338 psaaqe has bluetooth and where to find it ?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Gus

I was wondering if my A200-196 has bluetooth (linux seems to think so). What dfoes the bluetooth label look like? I have several labels including WiFi and lan addresses and a funny blue one mostly in Chinese.
There is a long machine configuration number which may be helpful:-
    T2080/2x512/80G54/1WBT/DS2/L/M/W
I would like to know as am considering purchase of a bluetooth GPS and it would be helpful if I do not need to add a bluetooth adapter.

  • Equium A100-338 BIOS Password

    Hi all,
At first I want to tell, that my problem is fixed. I have A100 model and I was very happy since Feb 2007 when I bought it. I'm security maniac, so I putted passwords for everything: BIOS user, BIOS administrator, HDD, and few others :) Anyway, everything was OK until... my password wasn't working any more. I'm 100% sure about user, and admin password. So I tried reset BIOS and I took of battery for two days. Of course for nothing ;)
So I called Toshiba Support and very nice person said, that this laptop will be collected from me, fixed, and then they will send it for me completely free. That was only because I bought extension warranty for three years.
Laptop is fixed and now I have problem: put passwords again or no? This is the Question!
I know, that this problem is with few models more too:
Link: [Passwords errors in Toshiba laptops|http://ie.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/faq_selection.jsp?service=IE|Passwords errors]
So what if password will crash again? Without any reason? And what?
Have I send it every time to ASP and have I wait for three days?
I need my laptop for work as well, so maybe Toshiba can fix it *PERMANENTLY* on every laptop?

    Hi
I searched in the Toshiba knwowledg base mentioned in your message above but I didnt find any articles about the BIOS password issue on A100 notebook.
I found some articles about Tecra A3 or Satellite A80 and this should be fixed by BIOS update.

  • Equium A100-549 Touchpad / Pointer problem

    Greetings
I am having a problem with daughters laptop :(
When we boot the lappy up 60% of the time once the desktop appears and its loading bits in the bottom right hand corner the pointer just vanishes and we cannot do anything with the machine apart from turn it off using the power button.
If we keep trying to boot the machine up eventually it will operate as normal. Its just like a random occurance :S
I have been through the forums and FAQ's etc, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the touchpad drivers etc and tried some of the fixes mentioned on these forums but nothing seems to solve the problem, eg bios, chipset drivers...
Would it be a windows problem?
Is it worth taking the time to go through process of performing a clean boot and looking for a service not working, or a complete windows reinstall? or is it something I have not thought of???
Any help and ideas would be fantastic thanks :)

Can you start notebook in safe mode (F8 at start-up) and check if there is the same problem with touchpad and pointer?

  • Equium A100-338 - bad performance after display driver installation

The display driver recently updated and since then the performance has been terrible, and the windows experience rating has gone right down. I can no longer use a lot of programs, and the internet and programs that are still working are running horrendously slow.
I have looked for the old driver, according to the dxdiag, and it is no longer available. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Original driver was :
Card name: Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family
    Driver Name: igdumd32.dll
    Driver Version: 7.14.0010.1350 (English)
    New driver is :
Card name: Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family
    Driver Name: igdumd32.dll
    Driver Version: 7.14.0010.1504 (English)
I tried the roll back, but the driver had been installed prior to the earliest restore point. it took me a while to work out what the problem was.

  • Driver Downloading for Equium A100 338

Being a Computer Novice i need help with download drivers for my computer. Using device manager i have found that i have no drivers for Video Controller, Video Controller (VGA Compatible), SM Bus Controller, Modem Device on High definition Audio Bus & Ethernet Controller.
I Have visited the driver page for my model: (http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=UK&mode=allMachi nes&action=search&teddProduct=710)
And have downloaded mostly every driver on the page, but still it shows missing drivers on device manager.
If anyone knows where to find the drivers or if I'm going wrong somewhere, your help would be appreciated. :)

I agree with Juan. I presume you didnt install all necessary drivers. For drivers, tools and utilities installations is very important to be installed in the right installations order. This document will help you to install all this stuff in the right order and following this list you will not forget some of them.
Just follow the list and install all stuff offered on the download page. If you have more problems please post again.

  • Low Battery/Critical Battery Alarm on Equium A100-027

I have bought an Equium A100-027 running on Vista Home Premium this Feb. Since then I have installed quite some software, eg Nokia phone software, bluetooth drivers, A-Virus & all MS updates.
When the battery gets low or critical I don't get any audio warning, despite having this option ticked in the Advanced Settings of the Power Options and using the Win default sound scheme.
The soundcard & speakers definitely work as I get the Win sound notifications and can play CDs, etc.
Is there a driver/software that can be re-installed to get this working again as System restore would only let me go back a month.
    Thanks for any help,
    Markus

    Hi,
I saw your post before and I understand you need some help.
I can just give you the following suggestion:
    - Update to the latest bios version ! (Check this site out:http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_bios.jsp?service=EU&mode=allMachines)
    - Recover your machine and update ALL drivers/tools/etc., but before installing some "foreign" software, check if the "beeping" works correctly (For that stuff go here:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp)
    - Install your other software (Nokia manager, etc...) and check after every newly installed software if it still works. If after installing a specific software the "beep" doesnt work anymore then you know where the problem lays and you did some good software troubleshooting. ;)
In case of any questions: Just post :)

  • Battery, Power, Deep Sleep and Spotlight problems after 10.9.4 update

Hi, I have a Macbook Pro 8,1 13in (Late 2011). I updated to the latest version of Mavericks (10.9.4) and iTunes on Sunday, right after that my macbook started to goes into Deep Sleep after closing the lid, even when the battery was 80% of charge. My battery normally lasts for almost 5 hours. After it went to deep sleep, the power bottom does not respond. Also, I have noticed that spotlight process in Monitor was consuming so huge amount of resources. This problem persists in Boot Camp. There is no way to turn the machine up without plugging it to the power cord. Sometimes it charges the battery as usual, sometimes it does not recognize the battery. Suddenly, the mac goes into sleep mode while I'm using it.
I have researching and troubleshooting in order to fix this but no solution. I have reset the PRAM and SMC. I made a backup of my files and installed Mavericks from the ground with external storage in order to erase the entire disk, no solution. I made an Internet Recovery and downgraded it to Lion, it worked for 2 hours and then I upgraded again to Mavericks (10.9.0) and the same problem came again, the upgraded to 10.9.4 and no solution at all.
I have searched on internet and there are other people experiencing this problem but nobody is able to bring a valid solution.
