Equium A100 - USB ports broken - all 4 of them.

Hi,
I dropped my laptop about 40 cm onto a wooden floor the other day.
Now both side USB ports are totally broken, and the back 2 are pretty much broken too (If I wiggle the mouse usb cable in the back one I might get lucky for about 10 mins)
What can I do to fix this? and if it's not going to be easy to fix, are there any wireless mouses available which don't need a usb connection?
Help!
Thanks.

Hi
You cannot fix this because the USB ports are a part of the motherboard and if you would like to fix this, then the whole motherboard should be replaced and this is vey expensive.
But as far as I know the notebook supports an PC Card slot. You can use PCMCIA cards, PC Card16bit and Cardbus (32bit).
You could purchase an USB PC card which provides a USB port functionality.

  • MacBook USB port broken. Need to backup through Windows PC.

Since my situation is a bit complicated I will be starting off with some background information:
    I currently own a MacBook Pro 15inch (mid 2010) 2.4GHz, Intel Core i5, 4GB (running OS X 10.8.5)
My USB ports haven't worked in 2 years (I assume that i must of over powered them) however, when I insert my USB powered speakers into one of the two USB ports it powers them, and with the use of an AUX I am able to transmit the sound BUT my MacBook is still not able to recognize any other USB or external hard drive device. Still not sure why only my speakers receive power through the technically broken USB ports so if anyone can offer any insight on this, that would be great.
Moving on to the main problem:
So I want to format and reinstall the software on my MacBook BUT FIRST I need to backup. Since my USB ports wont work I've tried to find other solutions. (Don't want to buy an AirPort Time Capsule).
I've tried the Belkin Network USB Hub but since it's software only supports up to OS X 10.5 It would not work on my device.
I have FINALLY found a convenient and cheap solution by setting up File sharing network (from my Mac to my old Vista, PC) and purchased My Passport Ultra.
The plan is to send my files to the PC and from there to save them onto the external hard drive (and then send them back to my Mac). Sounds easy HOWEVER, after some research I've noticed that in order to get My Passport to work with Mac and PC you have to reformat it (not sure if you have to format on both platforms in order to be able to use on both as well), so I have the following questions:
    1. Since My Passport wont connect to my Mac is there anyway of formatting the external hard drive through Windows and still be able to use with Mac? (if not I can always format the external hard drive on a friends Mac)
    2. I won't need to open the files on Windows, the PC is simply a gateway in order for me to get the files onto a hard drive, so do I still need to format it to work on Windows? Will the files still be usable when sent back to the Mac?
I have tried to explain my situation as simply as possible but if anyone has any questions or is unsure of something I have mentioned please ask. I want to avoid buying anymore devices in order to do this, so any solutions in which I can use what I have would be much appreciated. I cannot go to an Apple store as I no longer live in the UK and we do not have an Apple store here.
If anyone knows of another way to get the files on to My Passport (other than what I'm trying to do) I am open to discussion. Thanks in advance

  • Faulty USB Port (Broken but not broken..)

For sometime now, my rear USB stopped working - I THOUGHT it had malfunctioned, but I randomly tried something today and it kind of fixes it.
For the USB port to work, I have to push down on the connected device (push the USB head downwards) for it to work. Maybe something got moved around and the power isn't getting through properly.
What can I do for now (besides taking it to an Apple Genius Bar, which I won't be able to do for another couple of months)?

  • Nokia e7 USB port Broken

    Hey!
Ive brought a nokia e7 about 4 months ago from malaysia.
i have realised that i cant charge the phone.
ive sent the phone to nokia repair center in auckland to try and get it repaired.
They said that something connecting from the circuit board to the usb connecter has been torn and cannot be repaired and this will also count as physical damage.
Can someone explain to me what has happend to my phone?

my nokia e7 is currently coming back from nokia repair with the tag "beyond economical repair", i originally sent this in for charging problem back in nov 11 and they fixed it, sent it back. just  took up to nokia care shop and was returned with the tag physical damage after 10 days , so i complained via chat and was told to send it again for repair stating i had not physically damaged it , the phone would not charge ,and if there was any damage to the port it may have been done whilst wiggling the usb to get it to charge but it would not charge in the first place. now its gone in to the service centre and they passed it on to the repair centre and they are sending it back saying its beyond economical repair , which should mean they should replace it with another e7 , but i seriously doubt thats going to happen, i have wrote this because i think everybody should be using this forum to take them to small claims court if they dont plan on replacing the phones due to poor design .this obviously very common place , you just need to google e7 not charging and there are loads complaining about this issue.
nokia replace my phone its not physical damage its poor design if you can not replace a usb port econmically and poor connection type if they can get easily damaged.

  • Usb Port broken Need to update

Is there anyway i can update my blackberry since the USB port soder broke and it pulled out.

    Hi,
You didn't say you were going to get one.
The other user brought it up.
Blackberries use "native" Windows drivers to communicate.
If you didn't buy a compatible device , it never will work.
Here is an article about Bluetooth connectivity. It contains
an article from Microsoft on which devices had the right drivers
and have been tested and approved.
    Thanks,

  • My usb ports dont remember whats in them!!

Hi, just got my computer back up and running and now the usb ports are forgetting what I have in them every time I restart or fresh boot my pc.  When in windows I have to take the usb connector out then reattach it and it detects it and runs.  I’m using the ports on my computer not a hub.
They worked before on my old motherboard but not on my new one, it is a ms-6339 p4 1.7.
    Any help will be appreciated.

With your current setup, do you just have drive C: for Harddrives?
If yes, boot from startup disk and use CDROM support option.
Once it's booted, make sure you have access to your CDROM.
If you don't, you'd be better off finding someone there to help you.
At the A: Prompt type "format c:" without the quotation marks. Follow the directions.
Once formatted, put Windows ME CD in drive and change to that drive by typing in the drive letter at the DOS A: prompt.
Should be drive E: (Will say when you boot)
Type "setup" and Windows installation should begin.

  • Nano 7th gen USB port broken - device not recognized message

Ipod Nano received for Christmas. Worked fine. Plugged into charge. Tried it today and won't power up, when I plug into the PC, I get a message that the device not recognized. The port doesn't appear to be working. What do I do?

This did not work for me. I have a laptop that was running Windows XP, and it had no problems recognizing the iPod. I was having problems with XP, and rather then reinstall XP, I did a clean install of Vista. I did a settings transfer, so the new install of iTunes came already configured--I mention this since I don't know if it was a factor.
When I plugged in the iPod, I got the USB Device Not Recognized. The usbstor.inf file did not fix the problem. However, the solution at http://www.winvistabeta.com/groups/275128/ipod-usb-device-not-recognized/message .aspx did fix the problem. Do this:
    Reset the iPod:
    1. Unplug the iPod.
    2. Turn the hold switch to HOLD and then back to off.
    3. Hold the Center and Menu buttons for 6 seconds until you get the Apple logo when you release them.
    4. Plug in the iPod. It should now be recognized.
This worked fine for me the first time. Thanks! Jack

  • K9A2 Platinum -- ALL USB ports max at 12MB/sec

I recently rebuilt my computer using the K9A2 Plat mobo with a Phenom 9850 and 4 gigs of ram. Easy installation, by and large, and everything seems to work, EXCEPT the USB ports are all slow. (Also, the second Firewire port doesn't seem to function.) Using several disk benchmarking programs, they verified that regardless of size, brand or port, I can't get above 12 or 13MB/sec for read speeds with any of ten different external hard drives I own. Very bad if you're a photographer dealing with very large digital files.
I've read the comments dating back to a 2004 post regarding pin #10 -- this should not be an issue with ports built into the back of the MB. Is this a hardware issue (bad motherboard) or perhaps a driver issue (AMD)? Has anyone else had this problem with their USB ports? I never had this problem with any of my past three ASUS boards. I mention the AMD drivers because I briefly owned an Acer Ferrari 5000 notebook, which I subsequently sold, because of the same USB port speed limitation, which Acer continually insisted was "up to spec".
As a side issue, perhaps related to replacing the board, what is the difference between my model board and the Platinum v2? I have found ZERO information regarding this on the MSI web site. Oh, last note, I run Vista 32 Business.
    Thanks for the help.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.
All the correct drivers are installed. I double checked that everything I have is the most recent, and it appears to be so (BIOS included). I understand the comment about Vista vs. XP when copying. I've seen a slight difference as well, however, I have an ASUS notebook that uses a dual-core Intel chip, running Vista Business as well, and the benchmarks are where they should be.
I talked with MSI tech support yesterday. At first, they didn't believe me. I said, no, I've been building computers for 20-years, I think I know how to put them together, how to change from one motherboard to another, how to transfer drivers over. Then they said they'd never had this happen, so they had no idea, other than to send the board in for testing. About two or three weeks later, I'd get it back. Just great. I use the computer everyday, especially when I have heavy digital imaging to do. Thier last suggestion was to unplug all the USB hubs. I asked why, since the computer set up is identical to what I had before, with the exception of new MB, RAM and CPU. Otherwise, all peripherals are the same. There should be no reason for something on one hub to slow down a direct connect HD elsewhere on the system. If it does, then the USB substructure has been poorly designed and implemented. I keep thinking its an AMD SB600 design and driver issue -- i.e. - joiny hardware software glitch -- but I could easily be wrong.
I have half a mind to buy the new MSI nVidia/Phenom board, except there have been major issue with nVidia and Vist -- one of the reasons I decided to rebuild my computer. Of course, there's the thought of going back to ASUS. . .
    Thanks for the continued help.

  • Mid 2011 Macbook Air - Yosemite keyboard and trackpad stopped working, the only button that worked was the power button, only one USB port works.

    I have a Mid 2011 Macbook Air.
    Upgraded to Yosemite last week.
Three days ago I was using my Macbook Air for the first time since upgrading to Yosemite. I had been using my Macbook Air for approximately 30 minutes, I was using safari and the keyboard and trackpad stopped working (would not respond). The only button that worked was the power button.
I rebooted and they were still not working. I plugged in a USB mouse and external USB keyboard, only one USB port would work (the Left USB port if looking at the screen) so I had to swap between keyboard and mouse.
After logging in there is a bluetooth icon at the top of the screen with a sawtooth line through it. Bluetooth is unavailable and the bluetooth icon is missing from the system preferences menu.
If I run a hardware test by holding D (on USB keyboard) at startup it says that no problems are found and at the conclusion of the test the keyboard and trackpad start working again. When I log on the bluetooth is working again.
I shut down the Macbook Air and when I started it again the keyboard and trackpad and right side USB ports were all not working again. I logged in using the USB keyboard and mouse and the bluetooth not available sawtooth icon had returned.
I ran the hardware test again and at the conclusion of the test the trackpad and keyboard started working again.
I have tried deleting com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile from /Library/Preferences/ and tried resetting SMC and Power Functions but this did not fix the issue. The only thing that seems to work is running a hardware test - obviously I don't want to do this every time I use the computer.
I do not believe any hardware is faulty/damaged - I think it has something to do with bluetooth/Yosemite.
I do not have the Macbook with me at the moment, if you have suggestions that I can try or additional checks/info you require please let me know and I can get back to you.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi!
I have exactly the same problem, and I can't find any solution.
I can't even track down the root of the problem: the Bluetooth/Wifi module? The trackpad? The keyboard/top case? The logicboard?
I've tried all the usual: SMC/PRAM reset, clean install, kext cache clearing.
    Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

  • IPnone 4s not recognized by Envy dv7-7333cl rnning Windows 8 when plugged into usb port

Laptop does not recognize iPhone 4s when plugged into any of the 4 usb ports. All usb drivers are up to date. All Win 8 and HP udates have been installed and are current. Ports do recognize memory sticks so seem to be working. Is there a special driver needed for iPhone?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hey texasbootz,
I'll have to get you to answer a few questions to understand what is going on exactly:
When the iPhone is plugged into the notebook, does it charge?
When the iPhone is plugged into the notebook, does it show up in device manager?
    Is iTunes installed?
If it is not charged when plugged in, it is possible that the cable you are using isn't functioning properly, and you may need a replacement. Or, the iPhone itself is having some issues.
In any case, since other devices are working in all of your USB ports, it is possible that its either a software issue (with the iPhone's drivers) or an issue with the iPhone case. You'll have to contact Apple for support on either of those issues. I'd suggest trying to re/install iTunes, see if that fixes it, then to contact Apple.
    Hope this helps!

  • USB Ports on HP Pavilion 15-e087nr Laptop Not Working

I have a HP Pavilion 15-e087nr Laptop running Windows 8.1. It has 3 USB ports and all of sudden they stopped working. It will not detect my wireless mouse, a USB corded mouse that I have or my phone when I plug it in. I checked Device Manager and under USB Devices it shows a number of choices and none of them have any errors showing so it appears the computer is seeing the ports. However, nothing works when plugged into them. Anyone have any ideas for fixing this issue? I've tried to uninstall them with no luck.
I appreciate any help that can be provided.
    Thanks

Have you tried restarting the laptop? Many times we get simply put the machine to sleep or hibernate- a full shutdown/restart can help with usb problems.
You might also try disabling "USB Selective suspend" in your Power Options plan.

  • USB port burn-out?

I added a card a long time ago that has 4 more USB ports. All of the ports have been working fine, but then I tried plugging in a cheapo keyboard light into one of the ports. The light worked fine the first time, but then it wouldn't work again. I tried other devices in that port, but the port doesn't work with anything. So I tried the light in another port, and the same thing happened--at first the light worked, now it doesn't, and now nothing works in that port. The light is going in the trash, but what did I do to the ports? So far the other two ports on the card seem to work. Did I burn them out? Can I fix them?
