Equium A110 - How to connect to PowerMac?

Hi,
I'm trying to connect a Equium A110 laptop (XP home edition) to a 7500/100 MHZ PowerMac (O/S 7.6.1) in order to get mainly photographic files off.
I need to be able to file share via a Cat5e Crossover Patch Cable, which I've been told should connect PC to PC, Mac to Mac and in this case Toshiba PC to Mac. Is that possible?
At some basic level the PC seems to see the Mac (in LAN boot - unless this stands for some Migration Authorization Code of some sort?) but I cannot get a physical connection that allows transfer of files. The original cable vendor and Belkin have been no help whatsoever!
I believe one computer should be made the server (the newer PC laptop?) and the Mac a Client?
I've had a lot of people saying, 'it should be possible'.
Am I missing any software or drivers in order to create this link successfully or have I missed activating a setting somewhere?
I have relaxed potentially conflicting software whilst trying to achieve this.

what do you expect from manufacturers if this is not a hardware problem?
you have to do your homework!
it's a problem that's related to the networking protocols...
what you need is a router + 2 lan cables or a crosslink cable, some time to read and patience...
smb or similar will do the job
file sharing rights are also required
if you are not experienced in network protocols use a usb harddisk to transfer the files
use a internet search with "smb file sharing mac windows"
i am sure the results give you some useful answers
btw: the apple support site has a howto exactly for this problem
so i wont copy and paste it here....
btw2: if you boot with dhcp enabled and choose netboot the bootprotocol will look for boot files on the connected computer...
this wont help you...

For me its definitively not a notebook issue because on the other notebook you have a problem with the wireless connection too.
Its not so easy to say what the reason is for this
In your case I would try the command line the command ipconfig /renew
Does it work?
If it doesnt work you should try to disconnect the router from the AC/DC adaptor for at least 5 minutes. Then connect the AC/DC adaptor again and try it.

How to connect a PowerMac G3 (VGA) to a Cinema Display (DVI)

I've just bought a used PowerMac G3 on ebay. I already have a Cinema Display 20'' with DVI input only. So the problem is that the G3 only has VGA output. I now bought an adapter which totally fits: So I now can connect the G3 with the Cinema Display. However, I can't see anything on screen.
I read somewhere this is because the Cinema Display needs digital DVI signal input.
Please, is there any way to connect my Cinema Display with this VGA PowerMac G3?

It seems that really is what I was searching for. Except the fact that we're talking about a price range, where I can get another display with VGA für my G3. Mh so well, before buying the 700 dollar converter I could rather buy a big mac mini and would even have more performance for a smaller price...
However thank you again. I now know there is a solution although it is not very cheap and there may be more affordable ones.

Equium M40X-189: How to connect RGB port to RS232 port?

as you know the Equium M40X-189 P-M 730/XP has an RGP monitor port and does not have RS232 port.
Im working with Auto-titration device which require RS232 port for connection!
Any idea of how i can connect my notebook to this device!

As far as I know the RS-232 port is a serial port and I dont think that its possible to connect the RGB port to the RS232 port.
But I have found the useful website:

How do I get an Equium A110-233 to recognise the network card under Linux?

Hi,
I've just bought an Equium A110-233. I partitioned the hard disk so I've got XP and Fedora Core 5 (FC5).
XP works fine when I plug in the network cable, but FC5 (or at least the Linux kernel) does not seem to be able to find and activate the network card.
The message I get is "8139too device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization". The 8139too module is in memory as is mii (which points to it).
Somehow I need to get Linux to detect that the card is there, but I just don't know how to do that. Can anyone help?

As far as I know the notebook has a integrated Realtek Network I/F Chip RL8100CL.
I think you should googol around for the compatible LAN driver for Linux which supports this chip.
Unfortunately, on the Toshiba page you will not find any drivers for any Linux distribution because Toshiba doesnt support this OS. ;(

Another option could be to connect a wireless Ethernet bridge (such as Linksys WET610N or Netgear WNCE2001) to the Ethernet port of the PowerMac.

Equium A110-252 - How can I find network drivers?

I have just reinstalled Win XP on a Equium A110-252 model number PSAB2E
Am having trouble finding the driver for the network controller.... anyone got any ideas ??

Equium A110 - Booting into BIOS

Hi all
I have recently come across a problem with my *Equium A110-233* laptop. This laptop was lying in a cupboard for a year or so after a friend of a friend plugged a digital camera into it to transfer pics whereapon the laptop promptly shut down. It was an instant power off as i have been told. The laptop would not boot up again after that, in fact it showed no response at all.
Now, i pulled it out of the cupboard and plugged in the power cord to have a dip and see if i got lucky. To my amazement it booted after a little charging. I re - formated and re-installed windows XP with SP3. The laptop booted up for two days without any problems but, has now stopped behaving.
The problem i am having is as follows : When powering up the laptop posts, but then goes straight into the bios everytime. It did this a few times on and off and i thought nothing of it as it would eventualy load windows XP after rebooting. But now it simply refuses to do anything other than go straight into the bois on power up.
I updated/ flashed the bios after installing XP innitialy. I have no clue as to what the problem may be. Below is what i have checked so far:
Ram - Checked and working properly.
HDD - Working properly.
Battery - Delivers power when off of AC.
AC power delivers power as indicator light is glowing on laptop.
Any ideas would be gratefully accepted.

Hmm maybe the RCT/BIOS battery is empty ?:|
This could be possible because the notebook was not used for a longer time.
In order to recharge the BISO battery the notebook should be connected to AC adaptor and should be powered up. The battery should charge for about 24hours.
Of course it could be an motherboard issue this would explain the pervious issues

Equium A110-276 BIOS update for 32-bit Windows 7

Hello all, I'd like to update the BIOS on my Equium A110-276 and the two choices are 'OS Independent' and 'Windows Vista 32 Bit'. I have Windows 7 32-bit on this laptop. If I choose 'OS Independent' it warns me 'This Bios is NOT compatible for Notebooks with Windows Vista!!!' and if I choose 'Windows Vista 32 Bit' it reads 'This Bios is only compatible for Notebooks with Windows Vista!!!'
The exclamation marks are from Toshiba, not me ;)
So am I stuffed and need to stay with my current BIOS, or can I use the Windows Vista BIOS update?

I've been having some problems with the fan, and before I bring it in for repair I wanted to try all options. It appears to be seated/connected fine, the area around it is clean, I've done all of the fan-related troubleshooting I can except the last option which is to re-flash the BIOS which a number of people have had success with (with regards to the fan).
The original OS is Windows XP so I'd have to recover it back to XP and then re-update to Windows 7 and I'd rather have surgery than do that again! If it's not in the cards then it's a trip to the repair shop, I reckon. Thanks for responding!

Equium A110: Cannot use LAN after wake up from hibernation or standby

I cannot use lan on my tosiba equium A110 after it wake up from hibernation or standby. The lan icon is there bur internet wont work. Please help me out.
One other problem. when i try to cut some thing i cannot paste it if i open a new folder. I have to keep the folder open go back cut it again and then paste it. I mean if after cut i open any folder it wont paste it.

Did you try to refresh the connection? Something similar happens on my notebook but not with LAN but with WLan. If you right click on the small lan icon you will see the option repair. Check it.
Have found also this possibility. I dont know if it will help but try it.
1. go to [Start] -> [Control Panel] -> select [System]
2. On system properties dialog box select [Hardware] tab -> click [Device manager]
3. On Device manager dialog box select [Networking adapters] -> double click [Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection]
4. Go to [Advanced] tab -> select [Wake On Settings] property -> Select [Wake on Magic & Directed]
5. Press [OK] to close the dialog box.

Equium A110-240 need new keyboard replacement

Hey.
As the title says I have an Equium A110-240 laptop with a broken keyboard. A few weeks ago about 1/3 of the keys stopped working at the same time. The error is probably in the hardware and I've reinstalled the keyboard drivers and updated BIOS just in case.
The laptop is a few years old and its warranty has expired so no help there.
I've tried checking the individual keys and removing the keyboard to check for a bad connection. No luck.
The rest of the laptop is in working condition and suits my needs just fine so I'm not exactly keen on buying a new one just yet, at least not before trying to fix the keyboard.
What I think I need is a new keyboard, but I can't find this exact keyboard on google.
There's quite a few Toshiba keyboards on ebay but none for my laptop.
I'm guessing other toshiba keyboards would work fine, provided they have the same connector cable, but would they physically fit?

Thinking XRaid to connect 2 PowerMac towers for OD Home Folders... thoughts

Here is what I was thinking, tell me if this is along the correct lines...
Getting an XRAID (not sure of the drive config yet, suggestions are appreciated!) and dual Fiber cards, one for each PowerMac towers. Connecting both PowerMacs over fiber to the XRaid. Having a Mirrored set of drives (possible 4 total drives- mirroring 2 spanned sets- possible correct?). Then having that RAID connected to both systems, one as an OD Master, the other system as an OD Secondary.
Will this work? I want to have a central shared RAID array that both systems can see, should one box fail, and the other need to access the same data. Users entire desktop, home folder, etc will be pulled from the RAID though the PowerMac to the local desktop, which authenticates to first the Primary and if unavailable the secondary. All clients are 10.5 (latest revision) and the Servers are 10.5.4
I don't have the XRaid yet, about to order here in the next week. Would it also be recommended that if I buy a refurb that I buy an extended warranty on the unit- how often are they guys failing?

Some things I have noticed about your post is you do know that Apple have discontinued the XServe RAID? Unless you already have at least one or have already purchased prior to phase out or are planning to buy second hand then you won't get any joy with any Apple branded products. Apple do recommend:

But not in the scenario you're proposing. Something you should be aware of is XSan limits you to 64 licenses. This includes MDCs, RAIDs, and Workstations. It might also include the Fibre Channel Fabric? Although I'm not sure? I'm not sure what repercussions this may have in your desire to host networked home folders as theoritically the license would be with the OD Master rather than its clients. Something to double-check on possibly? What I have seen on Apple Training Seminars is this scenario:
XSan (2 or more XServe RAIDs or any other RAID of your choice), 1xMDC and 1xBackup MDC (both XServes) and finally OD Master and however many Replicas you want depending on load. Again all XServes. Of course this is Apple's recommended configuration and assumes limitless budget. One thing for certain though is you will have performance problems if you don't dedicate something as the MDC. Although this does depend a lot on load. I guess you could have an OD Master as MDC provided you had at least two Replicas (possibly?) hosting the home folders. Again your mileage may vary.

Internal Speakers not working on Equium A110-276

I bought this Equium A110-276 a few months ago. I understand that connecting external speakers disables the internal speakers automatically. I have been using external speakers for quite some time, but now when I disconnect them the internal speakers are not working anymore.
Any ideas what I should do to get my internal speakers working again?

Hi,
usually the socket where you connect your external speakers uses a sprung metal contact to disconnect the built in speakers when the plug is pushed in. Removal of the plug from the external speakers should then allow the sprung contact to return to its normal position which will return power to the built in speakers.
It is possible that the plug from the external speakers has bent the sprung contact so that it no longer completes the circuit for the built in speakers. You will need to dismantle you nnotebook to get access to the socket to check.
You could ask your local authorised service partner to check for you so that you don't invalidate your warranty.

Typing in all upper case is regarded and shouting here.
Presumably as you have posted in the OS X 10.7.x (Lion) area you are running this version of the OS on your iMac.
This will have iChat 6 on it.
This can use AIM, Jabber and Yahoo IDs within the app.
Apple IDS ending in @mac.com and iCloud issued @me.com and @icloud.com are also Valid AIM Screen Names.
If you use Googlemail and Enable "talk" in the products there you can then use your Google Mail ID as a Jabber ID (although it has it's own Add Account option in iChat)
Facebook has an option to Enable "Chat" which will give you a Chat ID variant on your name there and this can be used in iChat (or Messages) as a Jabber ID.
The Yahoo Account will only do Text chats.
It also has to be an actual ID registered at Yahoo.
Chats are then AIM to AIM or Jabber to Jabber or Yahoo to Yahoo.
So your Buddy will also need a suitable ID or Screen Name for the relevant service.
