Equium A300D-16C - display not working

My girlfriend has an Equium A300D-16C which has been having a few problems lately.
For the past few months, whenever she turns the system on, the display doesn't fire up and it takes several attempts for it to come on.
The strange thing is whenever this happens the system does still boot normally as you can hear the Windows 7 start up sound.
I have been looking into this issue for quite some time now and I'm starting to run out of ideas.
Originally I thought it could've been a cabling issue but upon stripping the laptop down I found the cable was still firmly in place.
I have also tried removing the RAM, HDD and DVD drive but it still doesn't fire up. On the odd occasion it has started up when doing this but upon rebooting it hasn't started again.
I am thinking this could be either a power issue or the motherboard is on its way out. This problem is gradually getting worse (it took over 20 attempts turning it on and off this morning) so eventually it won't come on at all.
To clarify, the system will boot after many attempts but most of the time the display will not turn on (not even the backlight). It does work with an external display on the HDMI so the GPU is working.
I have tried holding the power button with no power source to discharge the system but it doesn't help.
I have also noticed that if you hear it boot and close the lid, upon reopening the lid the display will come on but with the wrong resolution (1024x768) which just puzzles me even more.
Any ideas on what could be wrong? I would rather repair this than just buy a new one as its still a decent system apart from this problem.

It is always problematic to discuss about problems that happen from time to time. Ok in your case most of the time it doesn't work but when it works there is connection between display and mainboard.
On this virtual way we can just speculate what the problem can be. Maybe connection to the mainboard, maybe display controller, display cable, display connector. Who knows?
If there is no even backlight I presume display doesnt get the video signal at all. It must be something on mainboard side.
What you can do? You can contact nearest service and ask for help but if they will say that mainboard must be exchanged it will be pretty expensive. You can try to find similar model on ebay with broken display or some other hardware failure (not mainboard) and exchange the mainboard.
It is really not easy to say what can be done.

  • Equium A300D-16C - Battery not detected after replacement

I have a Equium A300D-16C. The original battery was shot so I purchased a Genuine PA3727-1brs 12 cell battery. I have put it in the laptop it appears to charge it but in the corner it still says no battery detected even though its on charge. When I take out the charger it will say unknown remaining.
I have tried the usual tricks of going into device manager and uninstalling the apci compliant control and still it has not sorted it self out. I have also updated my bios to the most recent one. I just wanted to know what else could I do so I can see how much battery is left and if the laptop can recognise i.,

    Hello
Is it an original Toshiba battery from an authorized service provider?
Usually the new battery should be detected after first start I would recommend charging the battery while notebook is turned off. Then start notebook with battery only and check if its recognized properly.

  • Equium A300D-16C. not booting after shutdown.

Please, this is a problem i seem not to understand. I have been using my Equium A300d-16c laptop without no problem for over a year until yesterday's evening. i was installing a software(nokia PC suite) which prompted for a restart. the shutting down was normal and for it to restart was a problem. it displays nothing but a blank screen. It is evident it does not boot as when i press the power button it goes of immediately. Only the power indicator is on. Another thing i notice is that the DVD-ROM reads any disc put inside but there is no display of any sort.
My first reaction was that it may be overheating, so i cleaned the cooling vents and blew away dusts from all compartments. but still the problem persists. Please i seek to know what may be the problem before taking it to for repairs. Help Needed. Thanks.

Thanks. There is nothing displayed on the screen. it does not seem to boot into anything, as the powere goes off immediately when the power button is pressed. I have tried to change the ram modules, but still the same problem. i dont know what kind of hardware failure could cause this as it was working fine untill the shutdown. Thanks for the concern.

  • Re: Dvd drive stopped working on my Equium A300D-16C

    Hi I need help!
My Equium A300D-16C has stopped recognizing any type of disc, Ive tried double clicking on the drive but they gey kicked out and the message "please insert a disc into the drive" appears.
Having read back previous posts in a bit not to look too much like a dumb blonde and have so far checked the registry values - which are not set, uninstalled the drive via the system device - to no avail. Only had it about 2 months and really cannot be without it.
Any help would be very much appreciated

I tried to install a bluetooth dongle on vista , the bluetooth device was an old one and i dont think it was compatible with vista as it didnt work and it knocked off my webcam,i uninstalled the bluetooth and re-installed the webcam driver from toshiba support, and it worked again.

  • New battery isn't detected on Equium A300D-16C

    Hi,
This is my first post on the site. I have an issue with a new battery on my Equium A300D-16C. (no battery detected)
The original one that I had for the computer died after two years of use so I had to order a new one as a replacement. I have received it and it itself works fine, giving me 90 minutes charge. But the problem is that it isnt detected by the computer when I click on the power icon on the bottom bar of screen, so I dont know how long I have left with it. Also, the orange light that indicates it is charging should go white upon it being full of charge, mine just starts flashing orange after a while (is this when it is fully charged?).
I took the mains out of my computer a few minutes ago and it cut out and I had to switch it back on again, despite the battery being in and it being full of charge (as it has been in all day and the mains have been in for decent length periods).
What can I do to solve this?
Worth mentioning I am not too good with computers so everything might be best explained really, really simply as I am not the cleverest when it comes to this area.
    thanks

    > Now when i take the mains power out, the computer cuts out and shuts off within minutes without it being able to be turned back on
Seems the battery is empty and therefore notebook shuts down when AC adaptor has been disconnected.
    There are two possibilities:
Either the new battery is faulty or there is something wrong with motherboard power supply electronic.
I think both should be checked.

  • Equium A300D-16C - Windows has failed to start

I have a Toshiba Equium A300D-16C and all of a sudden it starts up and goes onto windows boot manager and says that Windows has failed to start and it wont let me do anything else.
I really dont know what to do and all my uni work is on it.
It says to put the windows installation disk but its not responding to any disks what so ever.
If anyone could help Id be grateful
    Thanks

    hi Lashay
guessing you have xp on this unit try to reinstall bootfiles.
seems that windows has lost some files...
this could be software or a hardware issue...
"fixboot " and "fixmbr" on recovery console should do this job.
safest way is to get a new hdd and a hdd-usb-adapter!
install operating system on the new hdd,
then connect the old hdd using the usb-adapter to the new system and transfer all user files.
not the system files or maybe you will get the same trouble again!
if there is a serious problem on the hdd its getting worse with every attemp to read the disk...

  • Equium A300D-16C turns on but the screen shows nothing/stays black

Hi there, I have a Toshiba Equium A300D-16C laptop.
    It was fine until now...
When I press the power button, my laptop turns on but the screen remains black / off.
HDD indicator doesn't flash or anything ... ( in case this helps )
I've also tried to remove the battery, hold the power button for 30s and plug the power cord back in... Same thing laptop turns on but screen is black.
I tried to connect my laptop to my PC's monitor using HDMI cable but no success... Laptop turned on but my pc's monitor was showing nothing.
I haven't changed anything inside my laptop or unscrewed it.
    PS:
I quite often kept my laptop on the bed/pillow so it may have something to do with overheating or something.
How did I get to this point:
Yesterday my laptop was fine, there was nothing wrong with it... I switched it off at night but when I tried to switch it back on this morning that's where I faced this problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Rejanu.

    Hello
    > I tried to connect my laptop to my PC's monitor using HDMI cable but no success... Laptop turned on but my pc's monitor was showing nothing.
Its very good that you have this test with an external monitor because so you could make sure its not related to internal monitor and its working properly.
Well, you have tried a lot so my personal opinion is its a serious hardware malfunction It could be related to mainboard or CPU in my opinion
I think such hardware diagnostic can only be done from an authorized service provider. I think you should contact the guys. They can help you to get rid of this problem :)

  • Strange sound behaviour on Equium A300D-16C

This isn't so much of a problem, just a bit of an annoyance at times really. The sound's working fine on my Equium A300D-16C (sound card and driver all fine on the Device Manager etc. etc., buttons working fine), but, the sound level (volume) keeps changing. I first noticed it as I'd installed the sounds add-on for MS Office 2007, but wasn't always getting sounds, but then other times I was getting very loud sounds, and others very quiet sounds.
I'm +fairly+ sure I'm not accidentally touching any shortcut keys (at least the lit up quick access ones above the keyboard I'm not, but are there any other shortcuts for sound?), but for instance last night at one point I noticed the volume was set at 16, but then half an hour or so later it was 4, and then this morning when I booted it up the volume level was at 0 (but not muted).
As I said, it's not particularly a problem, because if I need to I just adjust the volume to what I want it to, but it's just been puzzling me these last few days as to what might be causing it.

Ah! //Slaps head and goes to hide under a rock// :-D I guess that'd be the one on the front that obviously rests against my slightly rounded middle...? (I am in shape - round's a shape! ;-))
It never even occurred to me that there'd be a dial somewhere! Duh!
Thanks for clearing that up. :)

  • Equium A300D-16C - Switches itself off after 3 seconds

I have a Toshiba Equium A300D-16C that will not start up. When you switch it on it begins to start but within 3 seconds switches itself off before it even gets to any type of screen. It then automatically tries to switch on again, then repeats the same cycle of auto off, auto on over and over.
When you put your ear to the bottom of the laptop you can hear the system starting up then you get two very quiet beeps before it switches itself off. Does anyone know what the cause could be or if there is a fix or should i just accept that my laptop of just under two years has died and given up the ghost?
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

    > How much would i be looking at to replace cpu/motherboard (not beign a tech wizard in the slightest)
I don't know exactly what is wrong with it as it should be tested before making any conclusion. But the most possible reason is the motherboard - southbridge or power circuit controller. If it's motherboard issue, you will have to pay pretty good money :( as the most expensive part of your laptop. (about 35$-40% from total new laptop price). Don't know even if it's worthy to replace it due to high price. But before, you should contact the Asp (service center):
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/ASP_SUPPORT/
Ask them what really happened to it and make decision, then, replace or not.

  • Caller display not worked since June 2014

On 26/06/14 I reported a fault (VOL-**********) that the caller display function had stopped working following a thunderstorm in the area. According to the fault status this fault is showing as being corrected and closed on 02/07/14 when in fact the fault still exists. I tested the line using the BT test socket with a new BT2000 phone and this displayed ‘incoming call’ therefore my internal wiring is not part of the problem. I have also dialled the test code *#234# to check if the caller display service is available and confirmed that it is. I then tested the new BT2000 phone on the neighbour’s telephone line and this showed the caller ID for incoming calls, as did my other telephone as well; therefore none of the telephone handsets are at fault. Three times BT have informed me that the fault has been fixed and yet I still have no caller display. Reading through the forums it would appear that other people have encountered similar issues and that the problem is at the exchange, “An Openreach engineer discovered that the RS232 burst transferring the CLI number up the line was too weak and he then went down to the exchange to investigate. He then discovered that the fault lay in the ADSL device which lies between the analogue exchange equipment and the outgoing line”.
I’m surprised to see that BT are taking so long to trace a fault in their system last raised 5/8/2014 (VOL012-**********) and that they haven’t sent an engineer to the property or to the exchange to check the problem.
My patience is wearing thin over this problem with my Caller Display not working as it started in mid June. I’m also becoming less enthusiastic about BT and find it harder to recommend them to others.
My last message from BT, tells me that it should be back to normal on the 8 August. However, it is still not working. Their message that my phone should be back to normal now and if it isn’t report this to BT, is ridiculous. If an engineer had investigated what was causing the fault and found it, then he would have fixed it. However, either an engineer has not investigated the fault or BT is not competent in fixing their own service faults and makes these statements with crossed fingers?

An engineer called yesterday and told me that he had been asked to test the line for a voice fault not a Caller Display fault. However, his testing revealed there is no line fault, CLI signal is strong and he was happy that the new BT2000 phone (bought after the lightning strike) is working properly. (This phone had also been tested on a neighbour’s phone line where it displayed the callers number). He also found that this same BT2000 phone on my line was not displaying the Caller’s number (CLI), but couldn’t offer any reason why.
I conjectured with him that these tests must bring the problem down to a corrupted CLI signal which does not allow the phone to understand the phone number being sent.
When the lightning struck the phone line back in June, it blew the telephone connection in the back of the Sky Box with a flash and bang (telephone cable now removed from the Sky box). It shorted the Openreach Faceplate (now replaced) so that the phones and broadband stopped working and it caused the phone to light up and react as it does when a call comes through.
Now isn’t it possible that the lightning also travelled along the copper wire to the green cabinet just outside the house and damaged something there which is corrupting the CLI signal, but which does not not show up when the voice line is tested? If not, then there must be a problem further back in the infrastructure, possibly in the Exchange, that is causing a corrupted signal to be sent to my phone?
He told me that another team would have to investigate the Caller Display fault as he was instructed to look into a voice issue and as a field engineer he was not able to investigate any problem that might be in the Exchange. I don’t know whether this Exchange Team would be able to investigate a problem in the Cabinet if nothing is found in the Exchange or can that only be done by a field engineer? He told me to contact BT again as he’d done all that he had been instructed to do and they would have to instigate a fault team to further investigate the problem.
When all this is considered we have the basic problem that BT are unable to provide me with a Privacy and Caller Display Service that I have been paying for, because of a fault in their infrastructure. How much longer is it going to take before they correct the problem that’s been going on since June 2014?

  • Display not working

    Hi,
I am using Lenovo G510 Laptop. First I was getting an error of bad signature file which was stopping windows from loading.
I tried to fix it. I changed my BIOS Boot mode from UEFI to Legacy, and then system restarted. After the restart Display is totally black, like the Laptop is powered off. Hard disk light is on, battery power light also turns on when I turn on the laptop. But not showing any display. I've also tried by pulling out the battery and then pressing the power button for 30-60 seconds and then turning laptop on direct power. But it ain't working too.
Please any help in this matter will be highly appreciated.
    Regards

    Dear sir,
I gave my laptop to an  HP authorized service centre in Ernakulum (Vertex techno solutions Bangalore Pvt ltd, Ernakulum) No: 2550, on 04/12/2014 . Same time i registered my laptop complaint in hp customer support. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/display-not-working/td-p/4760312,  informed me  that no complaint to MB and GPU . But service centre informed that complaint in motherboard and asked me to change. When I talk them about the your mail and the details that you provided they suddenly respond they can't repair the laptop at their service center, disconnected the phone. I feel very much disappoint about your authorized customer services. In the mean time I kindly request you to take immediate actions regarding these kind of activities also provide a solution to repair my lap top

  • Equium A300D-16C touch sensitive light wont light up

I have an A300D 16C on Windows Vista home premium and the touch sensitive lights wont light up when I press the first button to make them light up but the lights are still working just not permantly on which I want the equium sign at the bottom should light up.
    Thanks

    Hello Jonny
Those buttons are controlled by Toshiba Button Support utility and this utility is part of Value Added Package. To be honest I don't know if there is some way to enable/disable the buttons functionality but if you want you can try to do follow:
Remove preinstalled VAP from the system (Control Panel > Programs and Features), restart the notebook and install latest VAP for your notebook model listed on Toshiba Support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads.
Please let me know if everything works well again.

  • Laptop Built In Display and External Display not Working

Hi all, I have a HP Envy M6-1158ca, and recently my Built-in display stopped working. I plugged it into an external display via HDMI and it showed no input. It seems as though the laptop is not booting into Windows either, as usually whenever my laptop boots into windows, the fingerprint scanner blinks letting me know I can now sign in using it. I am extremly frustrated with this, and have an unbelieveable amount of stress because this was my only PC. Please respond as soon as possible, it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    This question was solved.

Yes.. i think thats what might have damaged it...Notebook should always be completely powered off with the battery out and ac adapter disconnected while  replacing any internal hardware..
Shouldnt be a BIOS problem....but still you can check this link..
    Restoring the BIOS
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

  • External Display not working (descriptive details in post)

    Hello
    Background:
I have been using a black Macbook (last year's model - before the aluminum ones came out) and connecting it to a VIZIO VW22L HDTV10T (television/monitor) via a mini-DVI to VGA adapter.
This setup always worked, although it was a bit finicky (I'd have to plug it in before closing the display to get in to work in clamshell mode, for example). I get the feeling from reading other forum posts that this is the normal case, though (which so far has been my only real gripe with OS X).
Anyway, back a couple months ago I wondered if this finicky-ness was partially caused by a messed-up preference file, so I decided to try and fix this. In the ensuing tweaking, I somehow caused my Display preferences to disappear.
After much effort trying to fix the problem, I eventually called Apple support, which ultimately recommended that I reinstall OS X. I didn't do that, and continued to work at the problem. I eventually was able to bring it back by going into my Time Machine backups and restoring all the Display preference files (I used old preferences from back when I got the external HD, so I knew they'd be "uncorrupted). However, now I'm having problems with my external display, namely that it is not working.
This problem started early this year, so it might have been caused by the 10.5.5 update, but since I had all these other problems going on, I'm not sure if that was the case.
    Problem:
The Macbook doesn't seem to recognize the display, or is having problems routing video to the display, or something.
If I plug the display into the Macbook while it is running normally, the Macbook LCD will flash blue (like it picked up a new display), but them come back to normal. The monitor will go out of sleep mode for a second, but then display a "No signal" message. If I attempt to "Detect Displays" the Macbook screen will either flash blue (as before) or just do nothing.
If I have the display plugged in when I start up the Macbook, everything will proceed as normal until the time the desktop would be displayed. Instead of this, I just see a blue screen (like some generic desktop before any background is applied). The menu bar, the dock, and icons do not show up. However, I can hear various audio cues telling me the computer is running fine except for htis problem (email notifier going off, etc.).
I know the problem is not faulty hardware, because when I boot my Macbook into Windows, everything works perfectly. It therefore follows that it is an OS X problem. I downloaded both Cocktail and Applejack and run various repairs on them (most notable repairing preferences), but nothing has changed.
Any suggestions about how to try fixing this? If there's any technical detail I've missed, let me know.
Thank you in advance to everyone who tries to help.
    -Richard

I have same problem. MacBook Pro (new, 2014) upgraded to Yosemite. Had been running with ViewPoint high-resolution, 27" monitor, HDMI. I tried Thunderbolt connection -- it connected, but it would not allow the external monitor to run at its native resolution (2560x1440). It would only display properly using HDMI. Just 3 days ago after I installed the latest OSx software update, and my external monitor problems started. On startup, my MacBook screen flickers non-stop. I can fix problem eventually (after several tries) by disconnecting the HDMI cable, turning OFF the external monitor power, turning external monitor back ON and then plugging in the HDMI to my MacBook Pro. This is very inconvenient.
I will try using the Thunderbolt cable. When I tried it in the past, it connected, but it wouldn't display the native resolution of my external monitor (which is 2560x1440). Can only get this resolution now with HDMI.
