Equium A60 - AC adaptors issue

Hi all,
My Equium A60 keep blowing the power unit.
It has blown 4 so far - 2 were cheap rubbish but 2 were branded so should have been reliable.
I recently upgraded the ram to 1.25 GB and upgraded the HD from 60GB to 80GB and it had been overheating and cutting out.
Would this be causing the laptop to blow the adapter?
Geoff

Hello
This notebook model is pretty old and who knows in which condition the hardware is. Have you ever cleaned it up?
Upgrade should not have any negative influence. Overheating means the notebook cannot be cooled down properly. In most cases the cooling vents and cooling grill are blocked by dust.
So I am afraid it is the time for professional cleaning.
About AC adaptors I cannot say much but be careful about that. Dont make some experiments. Protect yourself and protect the area where you use the notebook. the best way to do this is to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider. they should check the notebook to see what is wrong there.

  • Equium A60: Blue Screen issue

I've got a Equium A60 Series (PSA667E), reconditioned. There's a blue screen apearing sometimes, when I start up, sending me a message of error. I've tried to upgrade my BIOS, as the website indicated. But a message tell me that I dont need, because its already upgraded. So, I've got the correct BIOS but my blue screen problem persist. What can I do....

    Hi
Sometimes the blue screen appears because of serious software error or a hardware malfunction (memory). Well, its not easy to say why this message occurs in you case because we dont have detailed informations. Usually the OS installation solves commonly the blue screen errors. But if there is a hardware fault so only a ASP could solve this issue.

  • Equium A60-191: Modem issue - Only analog phone lines are supported

My Equium A60 was powered up when lightning struck nearby and caused the electricity supply to go off and back on.
The OS is XP Home and my ISP is AOL. When I try to access the Net by DUN, I receive the repeated error message:
"Connected phone line is not compatible with this modem. Only analog phone lines are supported."
My desktop computer, which also uses AOL, still connects to the same phone line without any problem.
I have rebooted the A60 several times; changed and tried out 2 phone connnection cables - both work; the phone line works fine; I have reinstalled the driver provided on this site; removed the tick from the box that says to wait for the dial phone; checked out that the modem is in working and on the Device Manager list. All of this is to no avail.
Troubleshooter is suggesting that COM 3 is not enabled. I cannot see COM 3 listed in Device Manager, under Ports.
I have tried Google and ASK with the error message. There are not many posts and it appears that the Toshiba modem is in fact an Agere. This makes seems to be the subject of some of the complaints.
Finally I have uninstalled the driver/modem, AOL and one other DUN connection. I rebooted and went through the process of installing "New Hardware" and AOL. Whilst the modem is enabled and allegedly working... I am still unable to connect to the Net. I reinstalled an additional 'pay as you go' ISP. When I try to dial out on that it generates the error 680. It does this even when the box is unchecked, for wait for a dial tone.
I would be most grateful if anybody could help. I have run out of ideas.
    Many thanks.

    Hi
You are right, the modem support the Agere Modem Chip.
You will not find the COM3 in the device manager because the modem uses not real com port. Its a virtual com port.
I think you should start the diagnostic tool test and check if the Modem has no malfunction.
Additional you should delete the connection in the Region Select Utility and after new reboot create a new one.
I found also the useful Microsoft article about the Troubleshooting network and dial-up connections.

  • Equium A60-199 randomly shutting down -could it be overheating issue

Hi I am posting on behalf of a friend who has been experiencing her A60 laptop shutting down unexpectedlly.. ( she said it shut down after a few mins or when she tried opening Firefox)
    Syst Details
    Toshiba Equium A60-199 Model No: PSA67E -00J00C8J
    18 GB Free & 19 GB used
    512MB RAM
    Celeron 2.93GH processor
    Running WinXp Home
    NIS 2006
I have had a look remotely and was using it for about 30 mins opened FF with No issues using logmeinitreach software ..There was nothing showing in the event manager log, for the time of day it was shutting down earlier on..so I was wondering if it is a faulty power supply?
Everythng looked fine had just clicked on the Norton Internet security Full system scan which has not been run in a long time and the PC shut down NOW it won't reboot at all.??
Apparantly she can hear some whirring but nothing else happens..( which I guess could well be the fan kicking in)
Advised her to leave it for a bit and about 2 hours later she was able to turn it on again.. I am wondering if it could be overheating.??
Apparantly 3/4 months ago this was happening then stopped happening and has now started again..
Please can you give me some advice on how to clean it - other than taking it to a hardware workshop
I have downloaded the A60 users manual and have asked her to confirm what the indicator lights are showing - so as to try to verify of overheating
    is the issue..
I have also read online "You can spray compressed air into the air intake vents but not the air output vents to help get rid of the dust and debris." I have looked at the manual and can see 2 lots of vents ..One is on the side and one on the bottom, is th eintake the one on the side ? Do I literally point the air at the side vents and spray ?
When asking her if she knows when teh fan is always on, sometimes on, never one etc she seemd to think ot is ALWAYS on.. which woudl again point to overheating..
    Please advise

    Hello Cathy
I also believe the suddenly shutdowns are result of overheating. If the dust blocks cooling grill the air circulation is blocked and hardware can achieve critical hardware temperature very fast. Sometimes you can start any preinstalled application, the CPU usage goes to higher level and notebook will suddenly shuts down.
The notebook must be cleaned as soon as possible. If you do not have experience with disassembling procedure I recommend you to contact nearest service and the notebook should be cleaned on professional way. It costs a little bit but you can be sure that you can use notebook for a longer period of time.

  • Equium A60-157 Wireless Network Card/PCMCIA HELP!

    Hi, all!
This problem has been frustrating me for at least 2 months.
Ok, I recently purchased a Belkin Wireless G Notebook Card (wifi card).
The first time I installed the wifi card it was working perfectly. I powered
off the laptop (after I had finished working on it). The following day
when I powered on the laptop, you guessed it, the wifi card was not
working. I did not remove the wifi card during the power off/on phase.
When I went into the device manager, a yellow exclamation mark was
above the wifi card. When I examined the wifi cards properties, I found the
    following message:
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
I have tried unistalling and reinstalling the wifi card. I have tried using the latest Belkin drivers for the wifi card. Sometimes it works, but when I power off/on the laptop its a no go.
One way I have gotten the card to work was by removing and inserting the card several times
until it found resources and finally worked. I dont use this method anymore as, quite obviously, I risk causing damage to the cardbus slot and the card. In the meantime Ive been using a Belkin Wireless G USB network adaptor. I have not had any problems with the USB adaptor, but I would prefer to use the wifi card. This is because the majority of the wifi card is housed inside the laptop, so its not easily dislodged. The USB adaptor is fine for wireless networking indoors, but too much of a risk for roaming outdoors.
I have had this problem from bios revision 1.70 to 1.8C, and I still have it with revision 1.90. Im planning to take the wifi card back to the shop for an exchange, but I have a very bad feeling that the same thing is going to happen with the replacement card. Im not convinced that the current wifi card is defective, because it works perfectly when it gets resources.
I have tried to manually configure the resources on the devices, but I run into one major problem. Windows seems to be LOCKED into automatic settings. The automatic settings checkbox is completely greyed out, making it impossible for me to clear the check box. I have not seen anything in the bios that can help me resolve this problem.
I have noticed that there are a lot of devices running off IRQ (Interrupt Request) 19, when viewing the resources by type in the device manager. These devices are:
Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller x 2 (two entries)
Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
    Texas Instrumetns PCI-1410 CardBus Controller
When the wifi card is working it also runs off IRQ 19, but as I stated before Windows is locked into automatic settings and will not let me configure the hardware resources manually.
The Equium A60-157 does not come with onboard, but it has the potential to. Wifi l.e.d. on front panel, location for physical wifi switch on side panel and wifi icon on F8. Does anyone know if Toshiba offer an upgrade service, or can I install onboard wifi myself?
ANYONE, PLEASE HELP ME WITH THESE ISSUES!!!
    Thanks for you time!

    Hi
    I found this for you:
Two devices have been assigned the same input/output (I/O) ports, the same interrupt, or the same Direct Memory Access channel (either by the BIOS, the operating system, or a combination of the two). This error message can also appear if the BIOS did not allocate enough resources to the device (for example, if a universal serial bus (USB) controller does not get an interrupt from the BIOS because of a corrupt Multiprocessor System (MPS) table).
You can use Device Manager to determine where the conflict is and disable the conflicting device. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooting wizard.
Try to disable the conflict devices. It will be interesting to know if the problem will occur again.
In my opinion you should contact Service partner and ask them if the unit is prepared for Wi-Fi module. Sorry but I am not sure about that and I dont want to give you a wrong information about that.

  • Equium A60 - DVD drive does not read data discs

    Hello
I am having a problem with my DVD drive on my Toshiba Equium A60 laptop. The DVD drive (Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K13A ) will play shop bought films etc without a problem. it will also read a blank DVD when you put it in the drive but once information/Data is on the disc it wont detect the disc.
I am not really that good with computer so any help would be most grateful. The computer used to play everything it just stopped doing it a few months back.
    Many thanks Phil

    The issue is clear.
Fact is that not all CDs and DVDs are supported and compatible. There could be always an issue with a reading or writing
The same happened to me too I had to test different CDs and DVDs from different manufacturers and finally some medias worked
In your user manual you should find a list of medias which were tested and should run properly check it!

  • Equium A60: graphic problems and more

ive had so many probs with tis equium a60. it was overheating, stand by wasnt working and now the graffics were messing up! I rung this place pcworld recommended n they said try formatting it (great). so anyway i restored it to the factory settings so it was exactly how it was when i first got it. stand by is now working properly :) but it is still overheating (i mean it really does get hot) and the graffics still are messing up.
what happens is the screen freezes for a few seconds and then it goes to the worst display settings possible, so everything is massive and the colours are all wrong. and a pop up says windows as encountered an error please reboot.
This just happens at random times, i dont understand why ive formatted. I dunno if the graffics card itself is knackered. any help or ideas much appreciated. cheers

    Hi Dave,
I think it must be assumed that your problems stem from the over-heating. It is very common for dust and debris to build up and block the passage of air through the CPU Heat Sink. I would suggest trying to remove any such accumulation either by blowing through the heatsink (towards the cooling fans), or by sucking out any debris with a domestic vacuum cleaner. If all else fails then you can remove the heatsink and clean the dust out before replaceing it. Beware that this may invalidate your warranty.
Normally a thermal trip will shut off the power if it detects the CPU getting too hot, but this does not mean that some other problems may not arise.
If you still have problems with you display after you have dealt with the over-heating issue then please post again.

  • Reading burnt DVD's - Equium A60

Hi peeps, was wondering if anyone out there can help me. I have a Equium A60-692 with a Pioneer DVR-K13A rom drive. The current problem I have is that when ever I insert a DVD that has been previously burnt, not just by my pc but others the rom drive fails to read it. Dvd's I have created in the past that used to work fine have also stopped playing. All i get is the orange led flashing at first and then it stays perminently on resulting in a failure in reading the dvd. The drive plays original movie dvds fine and also plays any form of cd. Do you think the drive is on its way out or is there a setting that has been altered? Any help on the matter would be greatly apreciated.
    Kind regards Richard

    Hi
Its not easy to say why its not possible to read the burning DVDs.
Did you close the burning session? Sometimes the medium can not be read because the burning sessions are not closed. But this is only possible if you burn CD/DVD several times.
The second possibility could me not supported medium. You should use different medias.
Nevertheless try to remove you drive from the device manager and reboot the unit. The OS should recognize the drive again. Well maybe this procedure will solve this issue.

  • Equium A60 Laptop crashes/blue screen when LAN Cable is in?

    Hi all,
I have a Toshiba Equium A60 Laptop now for under a year.
    I am running WinXp Sp2
Yesterday, my laptop started to crash flashing a blue screen (No time to see what it says as computer Restarts too quickly).
I found that it only seems to crash when the LAN Cable is plugged ine.g. If I start the Laptop it will start-up as usual but when it starts to communicate with the network/router (as I can see by watching the little blue Screens in the Task Bar Bottom right) it Crashes. Ive tried a different port on the router but no luck.
My Network card is: Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
It runs ok in Safe mode and doesnt crash.
I updated the Driver but and it still does the same.
I then decided to restore my Laptop back to Day One/Factory Default via the Toshiba Recovery DVD.
When restored it worked fine all day (had internet access via the network) until I clicked: Set up a home or small office network in the control panel. It crashed again the same way. Now it will continually crash as above.
Could this be a problem with my cable?
    Please help..Any ideas?
    Thanks loads,
    Shay

    Hi Shay,
The blue screen of death (BSoD) can be a particularly annoying problem because it can be very tricky to trace the source of the crashes.
Read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_screen_of_death for some more information on it.
    Common causes are ...
    - faulty hardware (could be the network card, or ram, or hard drive)
    - bad device drivers
    - overheating
    - corrupted software/operating system
As you said that you've used the recovery DVD and the problem still persists, this says to me that it is a hardware issue (as long as image loaded on with no errors and DVD is in good condition).
Easy things you could try are ...
    - changing the network cable (unlikely the problem but always worth a try)
    - checking the network card port for debris/damage
    - reseat the ram/hard drive
    - load on an operating system from scratch, if you have it (not using recovery DVD)
If none of these work and the laptop is under warranty, get the motherboard/network card replaced.
If not under warranty, try the debugging tool for Windows ... http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/default.mspx
    Good luck!

  • Equium A60 BIOS Update Problem

    Hiya All.
I wonder if this Community can help me?
I have been trying for ages (weeks) to try and flash my BIOS with an upgrade for my Toshiba Laptop. It is a Toshiba Equium A60.
I can get it to load Windows 98 (except that it tells me that the USB devices wont work because of conflicts in the BIOS)
My friend has exactly the same Laptop, and the BIOS Version is V1.9 and mine is V1.65  To me, this very simply means that mine is out of date!
I have downloaded the newest BIOS Version from Toshiba’s website, and they say to execute the .exe file by using 1.4 Floppy Drive. This I do not have !
You can also execute this file in Windows, except that in Windows 98 it tells me I have an error!  “Failure_DLL DetecChipset”
I have Googled this, and the only website that has the same error code is in German! And although Google will let you translate it, it don’t tell me anything!
As a last resort, I thought I could burn a CD, make that into a bootable disk, and add the Toshiba file to it.
Tried this with BartsPE but this is based on Windows XP and I cannot load XP, it gets as far as the XP Logo, then freezes. This is why I suspect the BIOS requires an update.
So, after more Googling, I have finished up at this website, hoping to make a Boot Disk, with the Toshiba Flash Files attached, but it has to be done in “Windows 98” and not XP
So………… that is my problem, anyone have any ideas please?
My mail if you wanna suggest any fixes   [email protected]

    Hi Conrad
Can you please tell me why you made BIOS updates? Did you have any problems? I use my unit almost two years and I didnt make any BIOS update till now. If everything works well it is not necessary to make any update except for some Microsoft updates that make OS safer. Dont make any update if it is not necessary.
Anyway, I am very confused with your issue. Normally Recovery DVD must not be updated. BIOS updates are useful if there is some hardware conflict or problem and not problem using OS or any software.
It will be interesting to know why you make recovery procedure every time after BIOS update.

  • Memory Upgrade on Equium A60

    Hello,
I am looking to upgrade my memory on an Equium A60-155 C 335 by adding a 512mb component.
I know part: PA3312U-1m51 is compatable but does anyone know if Part: PA3312U-2m51 is also OK ?
    Thanks.

    Hi
I think that this memory module will work.
I have investigated a little bit in the internet and it seems that the PA3312U-2M51 module is a following memory module.

  • Memory expansion on Equium A60

Hi there Im very new to any kind of upgrade so excuse the daft question Im about to ask.
My Equium A60s running a tad slow so Im looking to get some more memory. If I buy new memory, say 512MB, would my laptop use this 512MB addition to the 256mb you cant remove or does it replace it?
ie would I have 768MB of memory or 512?
Also is there anything I need to be wary of when looking for memory, would something of this description work?
    "512MB DDR SODIMM PC2100 266mhz 200pin Memory Module"
    Thanks

    Hello
I have found info that your unit has 256 MB internal memory. One additional slot is available and there you can use max 1GB module because your unit can handle with 1280MB max.
Compatible modules for your unit are:
    PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-1M25)
    PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
    PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)
Check please part number and it will be easy to find them on the net.

  • Equium A60 Blue Screen after updating to XP Home SP2

I have a Toshiba Equium A60-692. I have updated to XP SP2 and now get a blue screen on start up with the message that ATI driver ATI2DVG has gone into a continuous loop. The Microsoft error report says this is due to incompatable drivers, but I have the latest driver from Toshiba.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    HI Laura,
if it is important for you to install SP2 on your notebook you should try a complete new OS.
At first save your data on an external device (CD, DVD, USB-HDD, ...) and start the Toshiba recovery CD. But pay attention all data will be lost, also other partitions!!!
After the new fresh OS is ready, update your drivers, Tools and QFEs from Toshiba HP and install it!
I the end try the SP2 installation! Then it should run!
    Bye Meier

  • White with vertical colored lines on Equium A60

    Hi
I am new to this but really need your help. My laptop is about 18 months old and has always worked fine. Last week I plugged a broadband modem into it through an Ethernet cable and set up broadband. A couple of minutes after doing this when I looked at the screen again, it had gone all white with vertical colored lines down it. I have rebooted the machine etc and that is all I ever get now. As soon as I switch on, it just goes straight to white with these vertical colored lines.
I have tried connecting an external monitor to it and that works fine. The laptop is a Toshiba Equium A60. I am worried that the screen has blown, is it possible for a surge or something like that to come down the Ethernet cable and blow the screen?
    Thanks
    Adrian

Display functionality has nothing to do with Ethernet cable. Test with external monitor is very good and on this way you can see if maybe graphic card is responsible for that.
According to your description I believe that display is the problem. Of course, just intensive display test can give more answers.

  • Need To Turn Off Touch Pad Tapping on Equium A60-173

Ok so I bought my father a laptop a few years back and now he has passed it on to me. I am wanting to turn off the tapping on the touch pad but I just can't find an option to do so.
I have installed a fresh copy of Windows XP Pro so there could be some drivers missing that come on the recovery CD.
I have tried to track down any drivers but I can't find my Laptop anywhere. I ran the Toshiba program which is supposed to detect which laptop you have but it came up with nothing when I ran it and I also searched in the drivers section on the Toshiba site but my laptop doesn't even appear in the choices of laptops.
It is a Toshiba Equium and on the back it says Equium A60-173 and the model number is PSA67E-00700C8J.
So if someone can please tell me how to turn off the tapping on the touch pad that would be great. I can't turn the touch pad off completely because obviously I use it to control the mouse pointer.
I saw a post that said to press Fn and F9 but that did nothing, probably because I don't have the correct drivers installed.
    Any help would be great.

    Hi buddy,
The tapping function of touchpad can be disabled in touchpad driver options. FN+F9 key combination will disable the whole touchpad so its another function.
The tapping function can only be disabled if the touchpad drivers are installed. If you install Windows from a normal Microsoft disk no drivers are installed and everything you have to install yourself. If you use the Toshiba recovery disk all drivers and tools will be installed automatically because it contains an image of factory settings. So recovery disk is more comfortable.
All drivers and tools that you need now can be downloaded here:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
    *Archive* > Equium > Equium A60 > PSA67E
As you can see you must only search in Archive to find the drivers ;)
