Equium A60 does not see 80GB 7200rpm HDD
My Equium PSA67E has the latest 1.90 Bios. It came supplied with a 40GB hard drive.
When i filled this up I replaced this with an 80GB seagate momentus 7200 rpm drive. This ran fine for about 6 mths. Recently I started laptop and it would not recognise the 80GB seagate drive?
If I put the drive in external drive case I can write to and read from it. It works fine in 2 of my friends laptops; but my own bios will now not recognize it!
I have tried PC world where I bought it and they cannot get it to work in this laptop. What could have changed? Now restricted to old 40Gb drive, not happy :(
Any suggestions welcome.
Yes I did , I put the old drive back in so I can go online. Please note that the 80Gb upgrade drive has worked correctly for months. Next day I turn the laptop back on & it does not see this drive? Nothing has been altered or installed by me since it worked the day before. I have checked the pins. All ok. The 80GB works in an external drive case & in two friends laptops .
I put it back in mine many times and it still does not recognise it in the bios. I do not understand why it will work everywhere except as my primary drive.
Any other ideas please?

Today I tried to put some mp3s on a known working CDRW and my DVD writer is not seen. I get a error message saying you don't have a cd writer.. I have CD Creator 6 which I have been using ok before, that too does not see a recording drive on my laptop.
I can no longer format a blank cdr or drag and drop on a cdrw formatted previously.

The drive should be FAT32 or much better HFS+ which is
Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
You should also use GPT (GUID) type partition not MBR as from windows.
Sometimes the TC will not recognise a drive and you need a powered USB hub.. even though the Disk has its own power. -
Equium A60 does not start after BIOS update
I have an Equium A60. After being caught with some very nasty malware and a trojan I made the disiccion to reformat the machine and reinstall the o.s..
All went well until I updated the bios. Machine crashed and now I cannot get it to reboot. Press the power button and the machine will start for 3-4 seconds and then shuts down.
I know this is due to the bios and want to know if there is any way that i can reset this back to it original settings?

Yes i did upgrade from the Toshiba website.
I should have never done this it was working after the reinstall of the o.s and so i should not have tried anything else(never fix something that aint broke).
The only place i have found for a new motherboard is Toshiba. But the price is nasty. Talk about what a fool am i.
Never mind though i keep on thinking that there may be an answer or a scrap one that i can rob a bios chip from. Other than that a very nice paperweight me thinks..!!!!

HP Pavilion dv5-1108ax, Windows Vista 32-bit: BIOS Boot Order does not see external eSATA HDD
I am trying to run some Linux OS (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora) from my external USB 2.0/eSATA HDD on my laptop. I can boot from a USB connection but not from an eSATA connection. Is there any chance of updating the BIOS to support booting from eSATA? Is there something I am missing in the BIOS setup menu?
No the eSata port is not bootable.

Equium A60 does not start-up properly
Had this notebook for 2 years now and yesterday it just froze.
Control,Alt Delete wouldnt work so had to turn off using the power button. Tried to turn back on but just shuts down again after a few seconds. The blue light comes on around the button and then goes off.
Managed to get it started a couple of times but then just froze again. Any ideas?Hi,
you said it shuts down itself? Is it working if you leave it a while and let it cool down? So maybe just the ventilation system is clobbed with dust and needs to be cleaned.
Did you installed some new software or bios updates or added some RAM? Regarding the RAM you can run memtest86 (www.memtest86.com) to check your memory on possible errors.
Would appreciate some feedback from you

K7T266 PRO2-RU - win2k does not see big hdd

I recently bought and installed a WD 160 GB disk on my computer (see below for details). My problem is that I can't get win2k to see the new disk.
I have searched for information on this subject and tried a few things but nothing seems to help.
Some more info:
1) I don't want to run RAID for the time being.
2) I have removed the jumpers from both disks.
3) FastBuild sees the both the old 80 GB disk and the new 160 GB disk.
4) I defined one partition with GDISK using the whole disk.
5) I also tried to define a partition of 80% (i.e. less than 137 GB), but this didn't help.
6) I have created a raid array for each of the disks.
7) FastCheck does not see the 160 GB array, only the 80 GB one.
8) However, FastCheck does see the 160 GB disk on channel 2 of the FastTrak 1 controller, but reports 0nly 127.999 GB. The location is reported as "Available" while the location for the 80 GB disk is reported as "Array 1".
9) Windows 2000 and Red Hat 9 are installed on the 80 GB disk. The boot loader is Grub.
10) RH sees the 160 GB disk, and I can mount, write to and read from it.
11) I have defined the "EnableBigLba" registry parameter and set the value to 0X1 (Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 305098).

I flashed 3.6 but same situation; could still not see 160GB disk.
I have win2000 with SP4 so that should be ok.
I defined 2 arrays in Fastbuild and 2 arrays are reported by FastTrak bios. Array 1 is 79999M and array 2 is 160041M. Both have a status of "functional".
Each disk is on a separate cable, connected to IDE3 (80GB) and IDE4 (160GB). Jumpers have been removed for both disks.
I created a partition and formatted it, first the full disk, then 80% and finally 15%, as it is now. I used gdisk (Norton ghost utility) to do the partitioning (booted from win98 diskette), and the disk is in the same location as it is now, i.e. connected to the raid controller, and without jumper.
I have installed and run the FastCheck utility (downloaded from Promise and not from the driver diskette). (Assaf, is this what you mean by "promise array management utility"?) The utility shows only one array, WDC WD800BB-75CAA0, but in the Controller tab 2 channels are reported:
-- Channel 1 = WDC WD800BB-75CAA0, size: 74.504 GB, location: Array 1
-- Channel 2 = WDC WD1600JB-00EVA0, size: 127.999 GB, location: Available disk
So, FastCheck does see the disk but only just...

Some notebooks HDD controller needs SATA driver in order to be able to install system.
Sat A200 is a little bit older but I dont think the SATA driver is needed here to install Win 8.
I guess you didnt any SATA drivers to install the Vista right?
Set the BIOS to default and try to boot again using Win 8. -
Notebook does not see mPCIe card (asm1061)

i am using an old notebook as a small server (cups/ftp/http/etc).
The Notebook is an old Dell Inspiron 1520.
I attached three 3,5'' HDDs to it which are powered via an external PSU.
the first HDD is connected to the original sata-port.
the other two are connected to a ASMedia ASM1061 Sata-controller. This controller sits on a small mPCIe card which i fitted on one of the three mPCIe slot the Notebook offers me (i tried all three).
In Bios all mPCIe-Slots are activated, still the OS does not see the HDDs.
also lspci seems not to see the card. Any ideas?

Laptop does not detect the new HDD
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen Gameday! I need help.
On my laptop broke down the hard drive. According to reports, a lot of bad sectors, SMART. Decided to put a new HDD. Laptop does not see the new hard drive. In the BOOT MENU new hard drive is not detected.
Old hard drive while still runs in the BOOT menu displays all 3 sections. On the new disk interface is similar to the interface connection on the old disk.
laptop model: 15-e 051 sr.
OS: Win 8
manufacturer of the old hard drive : Hitachi
new hard drive: seagate.
New hard drive on another system checked for operability.
Also, the laptop refused to work with other hard drives: Samsung, Hitachi.

First I would like to let you know that the broken English is not a problem. I understand that Google translation can be a a little rough in the translations. We will work together and I am sure we will do fine!
I grasp that you are trying to replace the hard drive but it is not being recognized in the bios.
Here is a link to the HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide. please note page 57 for a list of supported hard drives. It will also provide information on removal and replacement of the hard drive.
You could also try this.
Once you have the hard installed and connected and you are at the bios screen, you will notice an option to restore defaults along the bottom. ( I believe it is F5) . This will cause it to scan for the hardware and hopefully find your new hard drive.

Satelite A30 does not see any other network devices in WLan
I recently bought a Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card, i've installed it and managed to get it to recognise my broadband but it does not see any other network devices. I was not supplied with any drivers or software to operate the card (I bought it from a proper dealer). Can you recommend downloads that would run this card?
I have a Satelite A30 laptop 1gb ram 60GB HDD.
Also large files sometimes stop transfering (hangs)when using my USB connection. The usb controller is using microsoft driver 5.1.2600.0 dated 1 june 2002.

I dont know which devices in the broadband you mean but usually if you want to communicate or transfer files between notebooks through the WLan so all computers must be in the same domain or workgroup.
I cannot give you a proper answer but only a suggestion. I have red that sometimes a lower power could be responsible for such issue. Try to disable the option Power safe in the USB root hub properties in the device manager.

Sorry for short novel I am writing. I just wanted to cover as much backround as possible.
So, here it goes. I backed up my iphone 4 after renting a movie. The movie only played the starting credits before I was called on for daddy duty. A few days later the movie would not play, so I restored my phone from my backup. The movie would still would not play so itunes support refunded my purchase and ended my viewing privileges for that rental after verifying that I had not viewed the movie. I then had a problem with my contacts showing up twice in the contacts list after the restore. So I attempted another restore. All was well at this point. I then started having trouble with my pc and decided to copy the internal drive to an external source. A week later I had a system failure and did a factory restore on my computer. I re-installed itunes and tried to copy and paste the old backup into the new itunes. Now itunes just flat out does not see the backup file (I failed to mention that I did a factory reset on the iphone after the last backup, hopping to start fresh). Tech support had me uninstall and re-install itunes and then copy and paste the old backup into the newly installed itunes with no luck. The files are all there, but itunes just doesn't see them (itunes says the device has not been backed up to the cloud or to the local machine). We then tried backing up the factory restored iphone and replacing that restore file with one of my old backups on the external drive. Ok, this is where it gets weird. We replaced the guts of the folder but left the folder itself so itunes would continue to recognize the new backup folder with the old files. Whoohoo, itunes now see's a backup folder full of old files, or so we thought. The new files were deleted using shift delete so they would be gone for good and not mix with any files or folders. When I restore my phone, it restores the files that were deleted from the restore file (pause here for a moment and imagine the stupid look on the face of tech support and I while we silently wonder how files that were permanently deleted were restored). This left tech support and I both scratching our heads. My service issue was escalated to the next level. I waited for the phone call the next day that was scheduled at 10am to my wife's phone, but the call never came through. As usual, apple disappoints again. I just bought an iphone 5s and still have the iphone 4, and am looking for a solution to retrieve my contacts and restore to the 4 or 5s. I am guessing that files in other folders must be associated with the iphone backup in order for itunes to retrieve the files. Logic does not see my hd omni as an input device. Any ideas? I've been told to reinstall logicpro - but apple won't let me because it says its already installed on this machine.
I'm having the same issue with a file called IMG_2353.MOV that was imported into iPhoto from my iPhone and also have to manually select the items to import (so the rogue file doesn't error everything out). I've tried using Image Capture to locate/delete the file directly from my iPhone, but even though I can SEE it in Image Capture, I can't delete it or anything. This is VERY frustrating! My friend/Apple guru's only suggestion was to backup my phone then restore it through iTunes. Risky but should do the trick. I'm too scared to try, though!

My computer does not see my printer
Hi: I am having a problem with my HP Photosmart 4500 printer. My computer does not see it. I have a USB connected to it, have uninstalled and installed the software two time, dowloaded the latest update and nothing. Add to that, I can not connect it by WIFI. WIFI on the printer is on but again, it's no where on any of the screens. The only variable I can think of that has changed has been the router I got recently from AT&T. Everything else works with the WIFI but no computer. I'm running 10.7.5. I have read the install instructions and nothing seems to be working. The one thing I do get from the HP install disc is a message reading the printer isn't recognized but there are no updates in support. OK, what am I missing here?
Try these steps to uninstall the current software using the HP scrubber and then reinstall using the current HP driver available through Apple.
To do so, perform the following steps:
1. Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ and then click on “HP Uninstaller”
2. Next click “Continue”
3. Highlight the device on the left pane.
4. Press and hold control+alt+command on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on “Uninstall”.
5. After you do this, you will see a pop up that asks you if you want to uninstall all HP software. Please note, that in doing this, it will remove any other HP printers that you also have installed.
6. Click “continue” and wait for the program to finish.
7. After it completes, reboot your computer.
Once the computer is back on, do the following steps:
WARNING: This is will delete all of your printers.
1. Go into “System Preferences” and then select either “Print & Scan” or "Print & Fax".
2. Right click (or control + click) on the rectangle listing your printers and then select “Reset Printing System”.
After you have reset the printing system, let's make sure you have the most recent HP driver package installed.
You can do this two ways. First, check for any available HP Update's by clicking the Apple icon and then Software Update. If there are any updates available, they should show up here. However, if the printer is connected by USB, it will not show any available updates. The other option is downloading the drivers from Apple's website.

Once you have downloaded the driver package and completed the installation, you will want to plug your printer back in (if you were using a USB connection). After the printer is plugged back in, go into your print settings under System Preferences > Print & Scan. To add the printer, click the plus sign. You should see your printer listed here. If not, click "Add Printer or Scanner." Click the name of your printer and then click "Use:” box. Make sure that says the name of your printer and not AirPrint. If you are using the printer wirelessly, make sure that the printer "Kind:" is set to Bonjour or Bonjour Multifunction. Click "Add" down in the bottom right hand corner.
This will add your printer back using the most recent HP print driver available through Apple. Let me know if this helps resolve your issue or not. If it doesn't, let me know I will see what else I can do.
