Equium L10-300 - Question about BIOS password

Hey all hope you can help a new user please.
Had a customer bring in an Equium L10-300 notebook. Somehow a password has been put on the BIOS and the boot up so I cannot do anything with it. I cannot boot from a CD and Ive tried a USB floppy, it looks at the floppy once and then just carries on to the password area. I was going to attempt a BIOS flash you see.
Im guessing maybe taking the bios battery out might help? But not sure where it is or how to get to it. Any links to manuals etc would be nice. Ive read that some newer Toshibas have special security chips now that hold the passwords etc.
Any help would be great thanks, really need to get this fixed.
Mark

Hello Mark
If you have customer I presume you work for one authorized service. The fact is that every authorized service has exact description how to remove BIOS password on each notebook model.
So if you are trying to remove BIOS password I cannot imagine you work for some baker. So much about your job.
Other important thing is that BIOS removal procedure is kind of top secret information and cannot be theme for public discussion. This information cannot be posted here. This will be great help for all people who try to enter stolen notebooks. Do you agree with me?
If your customer needs professional help send him to nearest Toshiba authorized service provider. They will know how to remove BIOS password.

  • Equium L20-198: Question about BIOS and s-video out

I seem to be having two problems with this and that is when I put the bios password on above it on the screen is rubbish, scrammble symbols. Also it is supposd to come with s-video out but there is a black plastic in place its place

    Hello
I know definitely that S-Video port is not available on every Equium L20 model. Please check the notebook specification although I think that your model should have S-Video port. Please contact your local dealer and talk with them about this.
Your unit has valid warranty and if you think that there is some technical problem contact service partner and explain them the problem. Please dont make some BIOS update experiments if you are not familiar with this procedure.

  • Equium L10 300: DVD burning & S-Video question

    I have a Equium L10 300. I have 2 questions.
1: It says that it is a MULTI recorder but it does not burn to DVD+RW, is this correct ?
2: When I connect to the television via the S-video cable to play a slide show from the laptop the TV screen is blank.
    Please help.

    Hi
    1. it is correct
    2. I dont know how you do this slide show but I presume that it can happen if you use LCD display and TV at the same time. Try to set TV only.

  • Need some help with OS installation on Equium L10-300

    Hello,
I am basically trying to do something really simple. But thanks to me being unfortunate enough to actually of bought such a diabolically bad computer, I know am on a forum trying to solve a jokishly simplistic problem.
When I try to format my computer, I am not being allowed, the Equim requests I insert some specific CD.
When I try to re-install windows it also tells me I need a certain CD.
I rang up Toshiba last year when I initially needed to format, they told me that its a lock, and that I have to pay money to get a new CD. I cant even explain how horribly messed up that is. How can a huge company get away with obstructing my human rights?
As a computer owner I should obtain the right to use any operating system I please.
Having some fascists dictate what OS I use is totally ridiculous and go's against what my basic rights. Its absolutely sickening
I need to know how to bypass this stupid system lock. Its totally illegal.
Someone please tell me how I can fix this horrible problem.

I understand you very well but let us write about all this.
Generally speaking every Toshiba notebook is delivered with preinstalled operating system. According your notebook specification your Equium L10-300 (PSL17E-XXXXX) is originally delivered with Windows XP Home (factory settings) and specification says this notebook model is delivered with recovery CD and Tools & Utilities Medias. I don't know if you got them or not.
Anyway when you bought your notebook you have already paid one license for preinstalled operating system. Of course nobody force you to use exact this recovery image (factory settings) and you can install your own operating system. Nothing is blocked or locked and because of that Toshiba offers drivers, tools and utilities on official support page. That means you can, for example, install WXP Professional on your notebook. WXP is supported and all necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can find on Toshiba support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads.
Please check this page. Just choose your notebook model and you will see all WXP drivers, tools and utilities are there. Toshiba has also offered Installations Instructions document (the first one on the list) to help you with WXP installation. If you want to have own and clean preinstalled WXP just follow this installations order.
I believe this is good argument for you to see that nothing is locked. If you want to have factory settings again you need to install operating system using Toshiba recovery CD. If you don't have one you must order it. BUT you must not do this. Just install operating system using Microsoft installations CD/DVD.
You can try to install Windows2000, Linux whatever you want. There is just one question: where to find all necessary drivers. For your notebook model Toshiba supports WXP and Vista only.
So can you please tell me which installations CDs you have and which OS you want to install?

  • Equium L10-300: Cannot see my Wlan router!

I have a Toshiba Equium L10 300 laptop with an internal Infocomm IPN 2220 wireless network card.
The laptop is running Windows XP Home SP2 and ConfigFree. I have updated the wireless drivers to the latest version.
I am trying to connect the laptop to a Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless G Router (Model: FSD7632-A)
The wireless button is turned on.
When I refresh the wireless LANs in either windows or configFree, I can see every wireless LAN SSID on my street (which are also 54G) apart from mine. I have a other laptop which quite happily connects to the Belkin. The L10 stubbornly refuses to acknowledge its existence.
Does anyone have any idea why this is?
Any help woud be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Alasdair

    Hi
The WLan card seems to works because the other WLans are visible.
In my knowledge the integrated Ambit minPCI WLan card support 802.11b/g wireless technology.
I would recommend switching the mode to G only. This can be done in device manager -> WLan card properties -> advanced tab
Please also check if the Wlan card uses the same channel like Wlan router.

  • Toshiba Equium(L10-300) motherboard needed!

    hi ,
i bought toshiba Equium(L10-300) some 3 years ago . The motherboard in not working and is damabed , please guide how can i order it .
    thanks
    Jamal.

    Hello Mo,
Yes you can install Windows XP HE or Pro and then download all the drivers from Toshiba. But the place you bought the Computer from is supposed to furnish the Recovery CD's that came with the machine. If you go back and ask them they should be more then happy to oblige your request, since after all it is not your fault you do not have the CD's. Either way, for now if you want you could install windows normally and download the drivers, and wait for your recovery CD from the store, or you can go to the store, request your Recovery CD, and install it that way once they give you the CD's. Hope this clears up your problems.

Hi, I have answered no to the question about saving password for one spesific site. I have changed my mind and would like Firefox to save the password. How do I reactivate the password saver for one spesific site?

Check exception list of your Firefox password Manager and check if your site is there or not?

  • Equium L10-300 - battery failure

    Hi
Can anyone tell me if the battery fails on the laptop Equium L10-300 it will not power up with the mains lead/charger pluged in?

    Hi
First of al you will get some suggestions here in the forum if you want to be 100% sure what part is faulty or malfunctions, then you will need to contact an notebook technician and he could check the hardware.
Now my opinion; if the notebook cannot power up even if the AC adaptor is plugged in, then this has nothing to do with the notebooks battery but with the internal parts like for example power supply electronic on the motherboard.
If the battery would be faulty, you should still be able to use the notebook connected to AC adaptor. Right?
So I think your issue is not related to the battery Im not sure what could be wrong but first of all the AC adaptor and RAM should be checked if the both parts would be ok then there must be another serious issue as I suggested above maybe motherboard is affected

  • Equium L10-300 Heatsink & Fan exchange

The Fan on my sisters laptop has stopped working making the laptop overheat and switch off.
The laptop is an Equium L10-300.
Also the warranty has lapsed which gives us 2 options, have a professional open it up and change the Fan or do it myself.
Does anyone know the model code for the Heatsink & fan assembly and how do I take the machine apart, I've been trying to find a disassembly guide without much look.
    Thanks.

    Hi dude
Hmm as far as I know you will need a whole cooling module which was designed especially for this Equium series.
Such special Toshiba parts can be purchased from the Toshiba ASP which is responsible for your country!
I recommend to contact the guys and to order such part.
Furthermore you should ask for the further help regarding the cooling module replacement. The notebook disassembling is not easy and a little bit tricky. People without any experience could damage some other parts during the disassembling procedure. Therefore its really advisable to ask some technicians for a help.
Best regards and good luck mate

  • DVD DL not regonised on Equium L10-300

    Hi i have Equium L10-300 - with Intel Celeron M Processor 380 (1.6GHz, 400MHz FSB, 1MB Cache)/ XP HE/ 512MB/ 40GB/ 15TFT/ DVD-SuperMultiDL/ WiFi
and have recently purchased some double layer disk and it won't recognise the disk it just keeps telling me to insert a disk.
The disks that i have purchased are Verbatim double layer DVD + R
    Someone help please
    Darren

    Hello Darren
I am not 100% sure but according the specification for Equium L10-300 your unit has single layer burner and the DL medias can not be burned at all.
Please check in device manager which CD/DVD device your unit has and on this way it is much easier to find the specifications and supported formats that can be burn.

  • White screen on my Equium L10-300

    Hi all
New to this site but was wondering if anyone can help me. I have a Equium L10-300 and the screen seems to start going white from the corners in till the whole thing goes white. I have found that by pushing on the top of the screen is the only why to get it back to normal.
Does this mean that the screen is broken and needs replacing completely or is this caused by another part? Any one who can shed some light on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    *thanks coop*

The problem is either the lcd screen or the lcd cable.
I have seen this occur in the past while fixing laptops, a gradual change to white followed by the whole screen being filled up white.
If you move the lcd screen backwards and it fixes the issue then I think its a loose lcd cable.

  • Equium L10 300 Wont start up Blank screen

Hi I wonder if anyone can help or advise me with a start up problem,
It's a Equium laptop L10 300 XP homedition, After running PC doctor to remove Popups and adware my laptop stopped starting up.
Initially on start up after the system check it kept returning a blue warning screen which flashed off very quickly before shutting down and trying to restart this made it very difficult to read but i managed to make out something about a physical memory issue and dump, I managed to access the safe mode options and tried each one of the options including last known good configuration but all failed to start the machine up and just returned the same error message. Then at some point with all my fiddling it now wont even run the system check before crashing it now only does the initial boot which allows me to access the BIOS system F2 and F12 and nothing more.
I have the product recovery disc and even tried it briefly before interupting it When I realised the instructions say it will reformat the drive and I will lose all my data which I dont wish to do.
Is there a way for me to repair this problem or copy extract my data, before using the product recovery disc.
    Many thanks in anticipation,

First you should check the memory, it may be corrupting the data. Did you install aftermarket memory recently? Go to www.memtest.org and boot memtest from a floppy disk or CD.
To recover your data, you can remove the HDD and connect it to another PC using a 2.5" USB Adapter. Then put the HDD back in and run recovery.
ps. you can view the blue BSOD code by pressing F8 when Windows starts booting, and select "Disable automatic restart on system failure" in the Menu.

  • 2 questions about SmartWare (password protection, resume after standby)..

Hi guys, 2 quick questions about the SmartWare utility. I have searched for previous answers, but couldn't find any. Might be that I uses the wrong search terms though, so sorry in advance if this had been asked (and aswered) before. When I create a backup, it is being stored file-by-file in the "SmartWare" folder on the NAS. Since the SmartWare folder is public, all users with access to the drive can access this folder. Ultimately this means that ALL users of the drive can access the backup files of ANY user. If someone performs a full backup, this means that anyone has access to ALL the data of that person. I could't find any option in SmartWare to password-protect backups or something. From a security point of view, I would consider this as a worst-case scenario. Even worse is that there is no mentioning of this in the user's manual. Am I missing something here? Is there a way to protect backups against access by any other user? If this is really not possible, I would consider this application to be pretty much useless, to say the least. "Dangerous" would be a better description... My 2nd question is only relevant if there's a solution for the first one, because else I would't use this tool anyway: Does it automatically resume a backup if the machine is put to standby or hibernation mode during a backup operation, or will it restart from the start, or will the backup be interrupted (and thus useless)? Many thanks in advance!

One can create a Private Share on the WD My Cloud, configure it so only one user has access (password protected), then one can configure the SmartWare software to backup to that private share folder. One changes the backup location in the SmartWare program by selecting the dropdown selector box below the "WD My Cloud" on the Smartware "Home" screen. The Smartware User Manual explains this process under Chapter 5, Backing up Files, step 2, substep c. Smartware should resume the backup when ever it is interrupted. Here is how it is explained in the Smartware User Manual:Note: Backup protection is automatic for as long as the backup source and target devices are connected to your computer. Then, whenever you disconnect and reconnect either device, the WD SmartWare software rescans the backup source device for new or changed files and resumes automatic backup protection.

  • Equium M50-164: Question about Fan usage & battery timer

    Hi !!
Just got hold of my equium m50-164 laptop today and I wanted to clarify a few issues
    firstly,
I flashed my bios with the latest version and upon the reboot the fan kicked in at full power and didn't turn off until i put the laptop into standby mode, this seemed to of rectified the problem but the fan seems to be kicking in a lot more than compared to before, luckily the fan isn't kicking into 100% speed but more like 15% - 20% every 30 secs or a minute then goes into silent mode, the fan hasn't hit 100% unless i do a reboot :),
I know the fan will speed faster based on the cpu usage etc (thermal) but is this normal? I spoke to support and they wanted me to have an instant replacement but I said I would wait a few days to see if it would calm down :)
and finally looking at the power meter and other software tools there seems to be no battery calibration, with previous laptops i noticed that numerical calculations are made based on battery usage and time left [i.e a timer] but with this laptop i kind find a timer - i would of thought tha every laptop has this facility nowadays !
    any advice would be helpful
    cheers

    Hi
Please dont be mad on me but I really dont understood why your first step is BIOS update. The unit is delivered with actual BIOS and it is really not necessary to make it before you notice some problems. I just hope that you have enough experience with it because I have read a few postings on this forum about BIOS damage while BIOS update and to make it good again costs a lot of money.
Your BIOS is updated and there are new values that should be used by Power saver utility (responsible for cooling fan monitoring). I recommend you to remove preinstalled power saver, restart the unit and install it again. I hope that the result will be better.
Battery calibration I dont know what you want exactly but the battery usage can be control by power saver tool. On the task bar there is symbol for power saver and if you move the mouse pointer on it the battery capacity and left time will be shown.

  • Question about using passwords on Visio

I have another question about the Vision:M. I was curious if you're able to password protect certain folders so that in order to access them, you have to put in a password. I know you can password protect files so it can't be messed with or whatever, but it doesn't stop the files from being viewed. Is there any way to do this?

there is an option somewhere in the settings menu to hide protected files, so you can't see them or edit them till the password is entered.
