Equium L300-146: noisy fan

I bought Toshiba Equium L300-146 for more than one month.
The computer wasn't very hot before and the fan was quite quiet, which was pleasant.
However, since last week, the fan has worked dramatically annoying ly with so much noise ( likes more than 3000rpm) and made me feel headache as a result.
When I use Speedfan to check the temperature, the temperature goes down a little bit but it is really so noisy.
What should I do now?

Thank you for your answer.
I am using Speedfan to track the temperature.
One week ago, on Temp1 was from 43-56C, Core1 and Core2 from 43-56C as well but it worked quietly.
Now, on temp1,core1 and core2 temps virate from 43-54C ,but whenvever temp1 reach 54, the fan will go mad to make it go to 43C immediately, whereas before it doesn't matter and it cooled down slowly.
I think the way the computer controls the fan's speed has problems. I tried to reinstall VAP but it is still too noisy. Moreover, one week ago, at idle, the fan worked slightly at about 15s (no other tasks) but now it blows every 5s.
Where is the problem? If it is the hardware what can I do?

  • Forgotten User logon Password - How to remvove it from Equium L300-146?

    Please help.
I bought my daughter a Toshiba Notebook for her birthday, she put a password on it which she has now forgotten - would I just need to purchase the recover disk that costs 29?

Hmm do you know the Admin password?
If not, then a probably only new OS installation could allow you to boot the Vista.
    But Ive found this useful website;
    http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/102005-reset-user-account-password.html
    Try also this:
    - Turn on your computer and press F8 key.
    - You will get the screen called "Windows advanced options menu
    - There choose "safe mode" and hit enter
    - Your notebook will boot into the safe mode
    - Then click start -> All programs -> right click on the command and click the option run as administrator.
    - Then type the command "net users Administrator /active" and hit enter
    - Now you will get a command that "command succeeded"
    - Then boot again into the Safe Mode and change or delete the password for the user account
    Maybe it helps you

  • What HDDs are compatible with Equium L300-146

    Hi,
I want to upgrade my hard drive, but I'm unsure about what to choose.
Can someone tell me what would be a good choice? I'm thinking somewhere around 320G.
    thanks

    Hi
All SATA 2.5 HDDs should be compatible since there is not hardware limitation of SATA HDD controller.
So theoretically you could take a 500GB 2.5 SATA HDD.
    Cheers

  • Is Satellite L300 the same as Equium L300?

Are the the same or not?
I am a fan of Toshiba.
1 year ago I bought a Toshiba L30-105 which in my opinion was good enough for my work. It was only ATI X200m, 80GB and I upgraded memory to 2Gb bus 667Mhz memory which work perfectly (Ram 667Mhz, GPU 333Mhz).
1 week ago, I decided to buy a new laptop to meet me working practices and I decided to by Toshiba Equium L300-146, which is new and cheap (350). However, I am totally disappointed about it. It has a better CPU than L30 and bigger harddrive, nevertheless, in spite of the fact that a 1Gb 667Mhz module was given, the computer can only work at bus 533Mhz (tested by CPUId 1.45). I also tested the GPU clock, which is worse than ATI X200m. Before I bought this laptop, by googling on the internet, I saw people say x3100 is better than Ati X200m and has Memclock/GPUclock worked at 400MHz. On this L300, it is even worse than Intel Chipset GMA950. I am really disappointed from what I found out. Also, L300 has lower WIndows Experiences Index than L30.
It is too late for me to change a new computer now. However, I write this to hope that TOSHIBA would have new BIOS upgrade so that the computer will fully supply Dram Bus 667MHZ and better Mem/GPU clock which is as shown on Intel website.

Thank you for your reply. I understand what you mean as I am not a normal user. I know what to do to boost up the computer performance.
For the software, I already used msconfig to turn off stuff I don't want and updated the newest drivers for it (At the moment, on Support site, Toshiba still hasn't updated the newest graphics/raid drivers for Vista which were out on Intel site on 25/04/2008 so I had to install manually). I also added another 1Gb Ram bus 667MHz from Huyndai (same made) but the bus just run at 533MHz
In the UK, Satelite L30-105 was sold with Windows Vista Home Basic and when I upgraded it to Vista Home Premium, it still had better performance than the current Equium L300-146. As I mentioned, I am really disappointed about the fact that L300 doesn't support performance as it should do with its technologies it has. What do you think if you buy a laptop with Ram bus 667MHz but only runs at 533Mhz and X3100 bus 400Mhz only runs at 200Mhz. I have also discover that it doesn't support Vista 64Bit whereas Intel T2370 has EM64 on it.
As I cannot get help from Toshiba Support Service (they never answer the problems like this), I think it is better to express my feeling here. Again, I only wish that new BIOS version will be supported soon.
    Thanks a lot.

  • Can't boot EQUIUM L300 using recovery disk

    Hi,
I am looking at a friends L300 and it begins to boot Vista and gives the 'WINDOWS ERROR RECOVERY' window.  When you continue with the repair option the laptop then continues to 'load the windows files' and moves onto the next part which shows Microsoft Corparation with the loading bar.
After about 40 to 50 seconds everything stops.
I have purchased a recovery disk (as the owner does not have one/did not create one) from Toshiba using the serial number on the base PSLB2E-003004KS.  When I load from the recovery disk I get exactly the same result as above.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks for reading.
    Andrew

    Equium L300-146 (PSLB2E-003004KS)
So the recovery appears to run to completion and then Windows won't boot. Is that what happens, Andrew?
Be sure there are no peripherals connected to the computer.
Otherwise, I can only imagine a hardware or BIOS problem.
Can't hurt to flash the BIOS.
       BIOS Update for Equium L300, 1.50-WIN, 06/11/08
       bios-20081106121710.zip
How do I update the BIOS on my Toshiba Notebook and where can I get the latest BIOS for my machine?
    Good luck!

  • Equium L300 CD/DVD Drive no longer reads disks

There is already a thread with a similar problem to this with a different model, but it seems to have died.
The CD/DVD drive on my Equium L300-148 now refuses to read disks. It seems to burn them still, which is strange.
That must mean the laser has not burnt out, and the drivers seem to be working correctly.
I can see the drive in Explorer and I can eject it with the context menu.
I have tried a "Disable" then "Enable" in the Device Manager, but I have not tried uninstalling the drive then restarting.
    Any help would be apreciated.

    Hello
To make things clear: there are no much options you can try. You can try to remove optical disc drive from device manager and restart the notebook. The drive will be recognized automatically and the drive will be ready for use.
Can you tell us more about this issue?
Which formats you have tried to open? DVD movies, music CDs, different data files?
    Is there some error message?
If you don't have external HDD you can save all important data onto empty DVD medias.
Of course the best way to check functionality is to set factory settings again, but if you don't want to do this it makes things more complicated.
What you can do is to contact nearest service provider. They can install recovery image on separate HDD and test the functionality. If there is some serious problem the drive will be replaced for free (if the warranty is still valid).

  • Equium L300 - CD/DVD drive issue - error Code 39

*Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)*
This message is appearing in the device manager under CD/DVD ROM Drives for my laptop and is not running any cd's/dvd's.
I don't know much about my operating system or laptop in general other than that it's a Toshiba Equium L300 running on Vista Home Premium
Can anyone help me with this problem please?

    Hey guys,
Thanks for the help and advice but after deleting the mentioned registry keys the problem still seems to be there, no cd/dvd is available and in the device manager the CD/DVDW SD-L622A ATA Device is still showing the same error
*Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)*
What else can I do are there other options?
I tried a system restore but it couldn't do that.

  • Equium L300 - Will not install anything other than Microsoft downloads

Equium L300 updated with Windows 7. I am a novice where PCs are concerned so any help welcomed. My notebook will not install "programmes" (eg Java AVG etc etc) It down loads, ask to run then nothing happens. It used to ! .
I have tried just about everything I can think of but now can't see the wood for the trees. I stand to lose 50 after trying to update my sat nav!

Thanks for your reply(s)... you may think "moron" but where is setup.exe. I have turned of Firewall and uninstalled Norton and previously AVG.
It seems that if the "programme" eg adobe, Google Earth is in my PC already it will install .New things seem to be the problem. I installed Windows 7 But I seem to remember that I had this prob before with XP and foolishly thought that it would resolve it's self.
I am terrible for looking into the background and checking and un checking things I know nothing about could it be something as simple as that ?
what would happen if I used the recovery discs!!?? and how do I do it safely
Sorry to be so thick ......woman driver !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • G5 Dual 2.7Ghz Constant Noisy Fans

    Hi there,
I'm really annoyed with this whole situation since Apple don't appear to have publicly acknowledged the noisy fans/chirping noise problems G5 users (with varying spec hardware) have been experiencing and posting about for over a year.
    Anyway, here's the deal:-
My main spec is as follows: G5 Dual 2.7Ghz/4.5GB RAM/Mac OS X 10.4.6 installed on the shipped Western Digital 250GB SATA, 2nd internal 250GB SATA (Maxtor DiamondMax), 20" aluminium Apple Studio Display.
Since I performed the upgrade to 10.4.4 back in early May 2006 the fans have been constantly on as soon as the login window appears and remain at full pelt all the while the machine is on - clearly unacceptable and unusable. Fortunately for me it's not my only Mac although this is besides the point as I have now had an unusable machine for over a month and not been able to do any work with it - it is a production machine used for making music with Logic.
The bottom line is that I've not been able to make any music!
None of the suggested resolution methods that have been written about in the forums or elsewhere on the 'net (eg. installing CHUD tools etc) have made a blind bit of difference.
Furthermore, I have always had the chirping sounds since I purchased the machine in person from the Apple Store in July 2005.
For the past few weeks I was convinced that the fan problems were caused by the 10.4.4 update (when it started) and that the subsequent 10.4.6 update hadn't cured the problem.
Prior to this, I hadn't run a software update since December 2005 purely because I had heard horror stories from friends and other G5 users posting to forums etc. - if it ain't broke, don't fix it right?
I haven't really had the time to devote to trying to sort the problem out but I decided earlier today that tonight was the night to have a look at it.
Having spent all evening trying various things I am now convinced it is a hardware problem as opposed to being software related.
Here's what I tried earlier with the machine spec as above:-
    1. Booted the G5 with Disk Warrior 3.0.3 boot CD
    2. Ran all Disk Warrior tasks on both drives - eg, 0% fragmentation
    3. Re-booted, fan noise still there from login window
    4. Manually ran daily, weekly and monthly CRON jobs from Terminal - OK
    5. Ran Disk Utility on main HD, repaired permissions - OK
    6. Ran Disk Utility on secondary HD, verified disk - OK
    7. Powered down
    8. Removed all leads incl. power, monitor, all USB and Firewire
    9. Removed 4GB RAM leaving 500MB stock RAM, reset the PMU
10.Ensured the removable fans (covering the RAM) were re-seated firmly
11.Replaced plastic 'door', attached monitor (DVI only) and keyboard USB
12.Re-booted, same problem, fan noise still there from login window
13.Attached Firewire HD with Mac OS X 10.3.8 installed
14.Selected Firewire HD in the Startup Disk system pref
15.Rebooted into Panther, same problem, fan noise still there from login window
    AAAAAARRRRGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
The last time I booted my G5 from the Panther Firewire HD (which incidentally hasn't been used since) was prior to me doing the 10.4.4 update on my G5's main boot drive and there was NO fan noise whatsoever!!!!!
Clearly I need to call and speak to someone at Apple tomorrow as the G5 is nearly one year old and I need to get this problem sorted out before it's out of warranty.
It just seems an odd coincidence that the problem started when it did!
Anyway, if any Apple techs or other G5 owners with a similar setup (specifically the dual 2.7) are reading this I'd appreciate a response or some advice for other things to try.
I'm just really frustrated and a little annoyed that having been a very content Mac user for years this is the first and only time I've ever had a problem with a piece of Apple kit.
Like I said at the top of the post, I can't believe the lack of acknowledgement on Apple's part as it would appear to be a known/common issue.
    Just my £0.02.
    Thanks for reading/listening.

Ok, take a look on your plastic shield, one of the bottom "tabs" should have a shiny metal coating of some sort, if it's gone or moved, then this could be the reason your fans are going "turbo".
If your fans are just at a high speed all the time, consider lowering your room temps to about 75ºF and see how it goes after a few hours/days.
It's most likely a wise decision to have the G-folks take a look at it anyway before it gets out of warranty. you might need a fan calibration or firmware change.
You still have a chance to buy AppleCare and get it registered before the 1 year warranty expires.
The Dual 2.7 is the hottest PM of the bunch, overclocked I would think.
You said the WD drive was OEM correct? Came with the PM stock?
Because the newer WD drives now have a new SATA spec that requires a SATA PCI card to function correctly in PM's.
Have you tried a complete reinstall of the OS?
Did you upgrade Tiger over Panther? (not good, less secure, previous exploits)
Do a backup, a clone of your boot drive to a external using Carbon Copy Cloner (check in the forums for their advice!) would be better.
the c boot off of Tiger install disk (not upgrade version) and from the installer menu Disk utility Erase w/Zero the boot drive (takes longer but writes are more reliable) and then reinstall Tiger, software update till clear, reinstall iLife '06 and all apps from fresh sources, avoid Migration Assistant (too blind, no app DRM copies) install files and see if your fan problems return.
Sometimes if Mac OS X is not operating correctly it won't tell the hardware to turn the fans down.
Don't install any OS/root level/admin password type programs or hacks until you've had a chance to clone that pristine puppy to a external drive (preferably 2) and keep it disconnected for safekeeping.
It's takes practically no time to option boot off a clone to recover, repair or reverse clone to the original drive. If your exploited, first c boot and Zero the infected drive before hooking up and option booting off the clone of course.

  • Equium L300: cannot get a wireless connection

    Hi all
I purchased an Equium L300 PSLB2E and cannot get a wireless connection. I have checked the network adapters and it tells me the Realtek RTL8102E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC ( NDIS 6.0 ) is working.
I have tried the FN+F8 but do not get any symbol for Wi Fi.
I have the Wireless switch to the fornt of the unit switched on.
    Any help much appreciated.

    Try again!
If the WLan card (device) will not appear in the Network adapters then you should take your Recovery DVD and should set the notebook back to the factory settings.
By the way; there is a Toshiba tool called *WPS Library*.
The WPS Library is needed for using ConfigFree and wireless connection.
    Try to reinstall it too.
    Good luck

  • Noisy fans on all the time

I have come over from the dark side today (PC to Mac switcher). I got a second hand Mac Pro 2.66 quad with four HDD and 4GB ram and i seem to have very noisy fans. I did find this article
    http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/intel/fan/
which mentions that extra drives cause more noise due to extra heat and less airflow but this is just silly, they sound like they are on full ALL the time.
I have alread tried resetting the smc_rst button on the logic board but that did nothing. I also tried restarting the machine with command, option, p, and r down before the grey screen on startup and that did nothing.
Is this normal. is it just down to lots of HDDs/RAM or should i be worried?

Mac Pro most likely for "MP" shorthand.
Considering how the drives are placed, can't see that they block air, though they may not get direct ventilation.
FBDIMM memory needs to be kept cool and the top memory Riser and higher density DIMMs do tend to be as much as 10C higher (with 2GB DIMMs running the hotest).
I wonder if you got it with a system already installed? or did a full 'wipe' of the system drive and started fresh. There is a little program most people now use smcFanControl which can force the fans to run at a minimum rpm (though not the PSU fan, either software defect, or the logicboard won't allow forcing it if the sensor doesn't register a higher temp).
SFC would put a little menu item on the menu bar and to acces the program preferences. There would also be a log-in] in user accounts, and a startupitems in the top level Library/Startupitems usually.
Also, look on the Dock for items that can be controlled from there to "open at login" or disabled without having to open any control panels.
If it was me, and I bought a used system, other than direct from Apple Store (Specials, great deals on refurd equip.) I would start over with installing the system.

  • Trouble running hardware test on 07 iMac with noisy fan

    Hello
I have an 07 iMac with a noisy fan- I've tried vacuuming out dust from the back but want to avoid taking it apart if possible...
I read online I should run the hardware test, but since I am running Mavericks the Apple support advice is to run the original OS X install disc and restart (holding down D or Option+D)...
Long story short I got a replacement disc from Apple (I'd lost the original) but the iMac ejects it when I restart following the process above... could it be my bluetooth keyboard? Hopefully not since I no longer have the original hardwired one... or does anyone have any other ideas for either how to get to the hardware test... or fix the fan (without a third party app just stopping it)
    Thanks!

Try holding down the Option key to get the one time boot manager screen then select the AHT. Not sure as Apple moved it around on different install discs but it might be on the Applications discs and not the OS X discs.

  • Noisy fan (or fan-like) sound coming from machine. Thoughts?

My macbook pro is from 2008 to start. I had the computer completely refurbished back in August 2011, though.
However, in the last two days, it has twice produced this impossible-to-miss noisy whirring/rattling sounds that sounds a lot like a very noisy fan. The first time, it last for about 5 seconds just as the computer was starting up after I'd left it closed and off all night (leaning against the wall). The second time, however, the computer had already been on for several hours, always upright, and just for some random reason started making the same noise. This time it lasted for a good 15-20 seconds.
Any thoughts on what could be causing this sudden noisiness? Whatever it is doesn't appear so far to be affecting the actual functions of the computer itself.
    Thanks!

    HI,
Probably a good idea to run the Apple Hardware Test just in case and make sure you have all your important files backed up to an external source.
