Equium l40 - 10Z. Hard Drive Partition Help

A family member has a Toshiba Equium L40 - 10Z. The "Vista (C:" drive is full with a total size 55gb, but there is also an "Data  (E" drive with a total size of 54gb on it which is almost empty (Someone installed the game Sims on it)
Now the problem being is that there is around 20GB worth of music linked into Itunes set up on the C drive, and they want to download more and keep it all togehter on the same drive.
Is there anyway to make the C drive bigger? I.e. remove / alter the partition size between the C and E drive?
Or do you have any better options?
As I don't realy fancy moving all the music and having to tell itunes where all the individual songs are located.
Many Thanks
~Will

A bit more thought give to the situation, I can probalby just use Itunes to move the whole Itunes media folder over to the E: Drive. Which shouold mean it would recognise the files automaticaly.
But Is there still any need to have the Hard Drive so largly seperated? If at all?

Is a louder clicking hard drive a fault? It doesn't make weird scraping noises or anything, just the regular clicks but they are louder than I'm used to! I'd say a good 2-3 times louder than my old laptop. Is this something I should query with the shop (I only bought it yesterday) or is it part of the design? Thanks.

    Hi Adam
Im an owner of 3 different notebooks and such similar clicking appears on one of my notebooks.
Its definitely a sound coming from HDD it appears since one year but the HDD and the notebook run correctly without any breakouts
But I have already noticed an HDD head-crash on my other computer. So you should be careful
Dont forget to backup your important data because this could be a beginning of the end of the notebooks HDD!

Help needed. I have a 3TB external hard drive partitioned into 1TB's. I used one partition as backup for the main computer hard drive. But now it is greyed out as shown in the disk utility and its name changed, i dont know how that happened, i tried verifying and repairing it but had no luck. I also tried mounting and unmounting it but still no solution. Anyone to help please?

Looks bad. I would strongly advise backing up the stuff on the other two partitions as soon as possible in case the rest of the drive goes wrong.
Beyond that, Disk Utility has limited abilities to repair disks, DiskWarrior uses a different approach and might, emphasis might be more successful. It has certainly done the job for me in the past when Disk Utility could not.

  • OneKey Recovery System wiped out my hard drive - Please Help with RMA

Hi, I just recently got an IdeaPad S12 netbook.
Last night I tried using the OneKey Recovery System to restore the hard drive to the original factory configuration.
Unfortunately, the restored process did not work and I had to shut down the system.
Now, on boot up, I just get a blank screen with this message:
"Remove disks or other media.  Press any key to restart"
I cannot boot up in to Windows, or even run the OneKey process again.
I know there has been a documented problem (on forums, not in actual documentation!) that the OneKey system cannot run after hard drive partitions have been resized.  However, it is truly a defect in the software to corrupt the entire drive, instead of providing a warning and blocking the process from continuing.
Today is my last day in the 21 day period to get an RMA.  I called customer support and they will only issue an RMA with restocking fee.  They say I have to go through tech support and have the case documented and approved, including physical inspection (if necessary I think), in order to waive the restocking fee.  Considering the OneKey software can produce such disastrous results, I should not have to pay the restocking fee.  It seems like a waste of everyone's time and money to send the laptop to tech support, instead of just allowing me to do the return right now.
I'm hoping someone from Lenovo can help me get this RMA approved today and not deal with tech support or restocking fee.  Right now I have a 3-pound brick instead of a functioning laptop.

    Georgewsu,
Thanks for the pointer on the documentation - I'll see what we can do to make it more clear that changing partitions can inhibit OKR from functioning properly.
Systems with no optical drive like the S10 or S12 can be more challenging when trying to recover from this sort of thing - there is a balance, perhaps in expecting a user to get a USB external optical drive and burn recovery media if they are going to change the partitioning of the drive and making netbook class systems available at this price point.
Without intending to sound too harsh, I'm not sure why Lenovo should fairly absorb the cost of the results of the changes you made to the product.   If you return a product,  we are going to have to refurbish it, re-image and resell at a substantial discount.  When you consider the time, the shipping costs, and what we will subsequently get for the product, we are well in the negative territory on the deal.
I think what might be more fair is to contact support and see if the depot can reimage your system under warranty.  If so, your system functionality will have been restored - you keep a quality system, and everyone is happy.   If you then want to customize your configuration, I would suggest getting a USB optical drive and burn recovery media before making more changes.
    Best regards,
    Mark

  • PB G4, hard drive partitioned

Hello,  My PB G4 has its hard drive partitioned into 4 equal, separate discs.  Can I merge 2 or more of these to make a larger disc?  Thanks.

    Allan,
I "inherited" this partioned disc and computer from my work, from which I've retired, but was allowed to keep.  The IT guy who initially set it up partioned it for reasons that elude me.  My problem is with iPhoto; I have too may pictures and it has used all the space in the partition.  Is it true that the iPhoto app and its picture folder need to be on the same disc? I've been working under this assumption, and this is the reason I need to create a larger disc, by merging 2 or more other discs, to handle the iPhoto picture folder.  I ope this makes a bit of sense.  Thanks again for your help.
       Mike
PS I would fix the optical drive, but I'm hoping to get a newer computer in the not so distant future and will then relagate this old fellow to my wife for her e-mails.

  • Is Removing or Modifying the HP Tools hard drive partition possible?

I am trying to dual boot WIndows 7 Home Premium and Ubuntu. Windows 7 is already installed and I was trying to create a hard drive partition for Ubuntu. However, why I try to create a partition, I cannot create another primary partition because I can only have 4 primary partitions on my hard drive. THe four I have right now are:
    (C
    HP_TOOLS
    RECOVERY (D
    SYSTEM
I was wondering if there was a way to merge any two of these partitions so that I will only have 3 primary partitions. Or would simply deleting the HP_TOOLS partition be wroth it? ANy help would be great.

    Hi MNJC,
Thank you for you inquiry.   I will do my best to assist you.
I understand you would like, a dual boot system and want to know about partitions.  Here is a Microsoft document on  Dual boot windows 7 and windows 8 that I think will help you. Please let me know if you are successful.

  • How do you increase the volumne size of a hard drive partition?

how do you increase the volumne size of a hard drive partition? the drive is set up into 3 partitions C, HP_tools and, recovery, C has space and would like to move some to HP_tools that is full. when I run backup I get drive full. I have run backup now to an external drive so that is not an issue.

    Hi,
Firstly please don't keep anything in HP_TOOLS except things have been there. You can use Windows systems tool called Disk  Management. Please use the following tutorial:

I have macbook pro 13" I want to know how to copy files from my mac to the external Toshiba Hard Drive. I can't even delete files from my external hard drive. please help me my macbook HD is almost full and I have to copy my images to the Toshiba HD

To delete files from your external HDD, attach it to your MBP and drag the unwanted files to trash and then empty trash.
Then you select the files that you want to transfer by 'drag and drop' to the external HDD and trash the files on your MBP.
    Ciao.

  • I keep getting "error occurred while attempting to import file *******. The disc your are attempting to use is full." I have an external hard drive that I moved files over to, but apparently they're also still on my hard drive? HELP!

I keep getting "error occurred while attempting to import file *******. The disc your are attempting to use is full." I have an external hard drive that I moved files over to, but apparently they're also still on my hard drive? HELP!

So you have backed up the content of the computer's hard drive, too?
That usually is a great idea since it is possible to lose use of the system
if parts of it have accidentally been removed or get over-written, or the
main system files get corrupted, when the hard disk drive gets too full.
If you have not trashed the originals of your created content, that remain
after you made copies on an external hard drive or other device, then
that is what you'd have to do to reclaim the capacity still in use by them.
What are specifications of the hard disk drive? The unused capacity
verses the used, in GB? If the hard drive has less than 15 to 20%
free or unused capacity, you could run into trouble. Mine are 40-50%
unused hard drive space, so ample room is available for automatic
Virtual Memory to use that capacity as temporary swap file space.
This is helpful when the computer could use more physical RAM
memory capacity, but doesn't have it. Or if the RAM is maxxed out
and you can't add any more. Virtual Memory is part of OS X and the
system automatically can use as much as is available, but it is better
to be sure there is plenty of resources available to include chip RAM
as well as unused or free hard drive capacity for use as VM.
If for some reason your files in Trash won't go away when you empty
it, you may have to restart. Be sure you have not included any System
files in the content in the Trash, or the Mac may not start up later on.
You may have to boot the computer from the install-restore OS X DVD
and run Repair Disk from its version of Disk Utility, to be sure it's OK.
I'm guessing that by now you know enough about the vintage system
in the older hardware to figure it out, so I won't write about it now.
In any event... hopefully you can simply trash the files, but check them
carefully, & you may need to remove (copy to archive first) even more.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Equium L40-10Z - Need WXP driver for sound an SM bus controller

Was vista, lost system, reformatted and installed XP as no recovery discs for Vista. Now no sound and says SM bus controller unplugged.
Any help please or where can get proper recovery discs (UK). Thank you

    Hey,
I think sound doesnt work because you have no drivers installed therefore and also for SM bus controller you have to download the driver on Toshiba page.
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
    *Archive* > Equium (Notebooks) > Equium L Series > Equium L40 > PSL41E
But you will see that there are no XP drivers available but what you can do is using the PSL49E model number that supports Windows XP. Usually there is no big difference between these models and the drivers should work on your system too.
For SM bus controller you have to install the chipset driver and for sound card the sound driver but latter requires Service Pack 3.

  • Partitioning a 1TB hard drive - need help!

i would like to partition a 1 terabyte external usb hard drive into the following partitions
1 partition to hold a bootable snow leopard installation (so i can reinstall via usb, install bootcamp, add stuff, etc)
1 partition to hold a tiger installation (for my ageing g5 imac)
1 (largest + what remains of the 1TB) partition formatted in ntfs to put the rest of my multimedia/documents to be read by a pc (running XP or windows 7), ps3 + xbox 360.
would appreciate some help here as i have no clue where to begin.
i am running snow leopard on a macbook. thanks!

The program you're going to need is called Disk Utility - it's under Utilities in the Applications folder in Finder.
There's a Partition tab in the utility, which is where you'll start. You'll see your external disc, which you can carve up into various pieces. It's all pretty self-explanatory from there on.

  • Help With A Full Hard Drive Partition

I'm hoping someone can help as I've searched previous threads but not found the total answer I need. I have a large external drive that is partitioned. I have completely filled one partition with itunes music and would like to create a second itunes music folder within another partition on the same drive. My goal is to synch both music folders with my 80GB Ipod. Many thanks for your time. BTW I'm using Windows XP.

Thanks very much Toons for the response. Let me make sure I understand correctly. In addition to unchecking the "copy files to Itunes Music Folder ..." option, should I change the Music Folder location to a new one within the empty partition on my hard drive? Since the current music file is located within a drive partition that is full, where will the new music I add be stored without my creating a new folder in another partition that has empty storage space?
Thanks again for your valuable assistance.

  • I am having trouble installing Lion on a partitioned hard drive.  Help?

    Aloha:
I am having trouble installing Lion on a partitioned hard drive
I have three internal HD's   The first I am running the system on 10.6.8 (which is up to date) , the second I do most of my work on  and the third I have partitioned into two and I am trying to install Lion on one of the patitions.
But Lion has decided it will only go on the first HD.
Above is the one I want to put it on, but it's not available and I can't change the partition scheme.  None of the things the directions state are usable??
What might I be doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Dan Page

Thanks again for a rapid responce.
I finally got lion on one partition and my daily "SilverKeeper" backup on the other.
Since the only thing I had on the two partition Hard drive  was  the back up and since the backup would get put on tonight any way I changed the drive to no partitions.  This gave me the ability to choose the GUID option, which I did and then I installed two partitions and successfuly istalled Lion on one of them.  I even tied Lion into the iCloud successfuly.
But I am not out of the woods yet!  I brought My brand new iPad to lunch and was informed that my iPad was synced to my Lion at home and I was on the cloud.  That blew my mind, I was impressed.
I then read  the Daily news with out problem, however, when I shut down my iPad, that was all she wrote.  I can not get the iPad back on.  The best I could do was see the revolving gear start and then freeze.  It's on charge now and I can not even get rid of the frozen gear.
Not sure this all has anything to do with the  recent installation on my main computer, but it's mighty suspicious.
    Need some help!!
    Thanks
    Dan

  • Help with reformatting a hard drive partition

A few years ago I let my friend (computer science major at the time) set up my dual boot on my Macbook Pro. He used a program called Gparted live instead of Bootcamp (claimed that "it wasn't working) set up the partition and installed Windows 7. Things worked perfectly. However, he made a mistake and instead of having a 32 GB partition it was made into a 64 GB partition. Which was fine up until now, because I need some more space, and I rarely (if ever now) use Windows. So I erased the partition and tried to bring it back on my start-up Mac partition- no luck. Tried reformatting it from the Windows NTFS (not sure what it's called) format to OS X format and had same error in Disk Utility. Anyone have any ideas?

If you have a backup for your Mac volume, then this can be done using Disk Utility:
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. Click into the second partition that was the Windows partition to select it. Then click on the Delete [-] button below the partition map.
    4. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for the OS X partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and drag the bottom of the rectangle down to the bottom. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: This may take a little time, so be patient.)
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
