Equium L40-156 boot up problem

I have an Equium L40-156. When I press the power button the power light comes on but there appears to be no hard disk activity. If I manually switch it off by pressing the power button for several seconds, leave it for a couple of seconds and press the power button again it starts normally.
Any ideas please?

Hi mate,
Did you recently updated your BIOS, installed some more RAM/another HDD or some software?? Maybe some driver update??
Since when does the error appear? And do you have still warranty on it?
So, if yes, then bring your machine to an authorized service partner and let them check your machine. Would be the best...
Greetings

  • Does Equium L40-156 supports internal mic

    Hi.
We have a laptop Equium L40-156.
We have problem with a microphon!
We can hear people who are calling us (by Skype) but they can't hear us.
Is it possible that we don't have a microphon inside a laptop?
Or is it something wrong with setting?Thak you

Did you check the microphone device in the Skype options?!
    What device was chosen?
In my opinion this notebook was not equipped with the internal mic. You will need an external one!

any body has an answer :
is 200-Pin PC2100 (266MHz) DDR SODIMM  RAM compatible with Equium L40-156 RAm
    thanks.

Nope.  That system requires DDR2 RAM (667 MHz)  You need THIS memory, not just the type, but the brand.

  • Is it possible to install windows XP on Equium L40-156

Hi, I want to install windows XP on my laptop. Is it possible to do it? and where I can get drivers?

    Hi
Of course its possible to install the XP on this notebook.
I checked the official Toshiba website and found out that the Equium L40-156 belongs to the PSL49 series!
This series number is important to get compatible Xp drivers from the Toshiba European driver page.
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp
On this page you can find an XP driver package for you notebook!
Very important is the BIOS update. If you want to use the XP on this Vista notebook you have to update the BIOS to the XP version!!!
Without the right BIOS some Toshiba features like FN keys could not work!!!
    Best regards

  • Equium L40 - cannot boot from Recovery CD

    Hi, can anyone help?
I want to use the Recovery cd, but when i press f12 on startup and cd drive from menu nothing happens.
After a short while the laptop starts as normal. Its an equium L40.
    Please help

Did you try to change the boot order in the BIOS to CD/DVD firstly and then to boot from the CD?
There is also another possibility for booting from the ODD.
You can press the C button immediately after notebook was switched on. This would enable the booting from the ODD drive.
    But Ive got some questions;
Did you try to boot from different bootable CDs like Win XP, Linux, etc.? Is it possible?
    Possibly the drive malfunctions?
I think this could the main reason why the notebook misses the CD.
    What do you think?

  • Re: Equium L40-156 - How can I turn on wireless?

    Please help!
Toshiba Equium lL40-156 wireless swich or FN+F8 wont turn on wireless function.
Never used it before but the light used to come on.

    Hello
If you want to enable WLAN card you must move WLAN switch to position ON and then use FN+F8 key combination to enable WLAN card.
I don't know what do you mean with your last posting but if you install Vista again the WLAN card will be installed properly and must be shown in device manager.
When finished do what I wrote and I am pretty sure the WLAN card will be enabled properly.
    Good luck!

  • Equium L40-156 - Vista to XP

I made my own copy WinXP, I used nLite to put sata drivers, I made boot cd with new XP, when I restarted my laptop I can see DOS screen.
Do you know what command I have to use to start XP instalation?
    Thanks

The nLite program creates a simply, bootable XP CD!
You dont need any commands to start the OS installation. You have to boot from the new XP CD and the OS setup should start.
If this not possible then I assume you did something wrong and the new created XP CD is not bootable.
In such case I would recommend to create new XP CD and to implement the Intel Storage Manger again!

  • Equium L40-156 - Indicator WLAN sometimes not work

Hello peoples - has anyone any idea wha this is bout?
I cant seem to find a similar problem anywhere. The indicator light for the wireless connection will sometimes not work - as a result i have to manually go into network connection and turn on wireless cap. - this will not turn the light on but does allow me to access the internet.
This happens for a few weeks and then it all rights itself for a few weeks,
    Then it happens again.

    Hi
Do you mean this issue happens sometimes but in most cases you can enable the WLan properly?
First of all to enable the WLan you have to move the WLan antenna switch to ON (be sure that it has been switched properly to the right) and you have I use the FN+F8 key combination.
    Usually this enables the WLan.
Im not sure why the WLan antenna switch does not work sometimes maybe its a hardware issue; for example loose connection or the switch was not moved properly who knows
Maybe it would be a good idea to ask an technician for a WLan switch check...

  • Equium L40-17M Vista volume problem

I recently had my laptop restored to factory settings due to a problem and since having it back I can no longer use the 'fn' button to control the volume and have to change it manually using the icon on the taskbar. Does anybody know how I can get this working again?

    I agree with Akuma.
This function is controlled with small tool integrated in VAP.
Remove VAP from the system, restart your notebook and install VAP from Toshiba download page.
I really hope it will work again.

  • Equium L40 - upgrade questions

Hi, I have an Equium L40-156 PSL49E running Vista Home Premium.
I have 3 questions: (due mainly to a desire to upgrade things)
    1. What is the max hard drive capacity supported?
    2. What is the max memory configuration suppored?
    3. What are the benefits of upgrading to BIOS 2.00-WIN?
Thanks in advance for any assistance, regards, Chris.

    Hello
I will try to help you with your questions:
Friend of mine has Satellite L40 and I can confirm that you can upgrade it with 200 GB SATA HDD. Service told him it is max capacity according the Toshiba.
    Is this enough for you?
RAM can be upgraded up to 2 GB. It is the max supported value.
About BIOS updates there are no specific information. If your notebook runs well you must not update it at all.

  • Equium L40 start problem

    Hi
I have to use F1 to start my Equium L40 every time i tun it on. It will then boot up ok but it has forgoten the time and date, once i update the time/date, the computer works perfectly i can access all my email accounts etc without having to re set anything.
The problem started after replacing the battery due to the old one being almost completely dead. I've noticed that the computer will not run on AC alone without the battey fitted but is still charging the battery ok. (so the adapter is ok)
I like the computer and don't really want to buy a new one but it's very frustrating and time consuming when i turn it on.
Maybe there is a back up battery i can change to repair the fault?
    Any help would be appreciated?

Thanks for the advice i must admit i havn't had the unit on charge for more than about 4 hours so i'll give it a try.
My suspicion is that a circuit has overheated and failed because it's been overloaded trying to charge a worn out battery and is causing the issue of not working on the ac adapter alone.
It's not too much of a stretch of imagination to think that the failed circuit also charges the Bios battery so it may be just flat not faulty! (in which case a long charge may have no effect)
If the long charge fails i may need advice on stripping the computer, recognising the Bios battery so that i can test it.
Has anybody got a repair manual or know where to get one?
I'll let you know what i find
    Thanks

  • Equium L40 - Vista refuses to boot after product recovery installation

    Hi,
I have had to carry out a product recovery uses the supplied restore disk on an Equium L40 (PLS41) laptop. The recovery procedure does its job to the end, reformats and copies all the files then restarts. Now the problem starts....
The pc gets past the BIOS splash screen then it goes completely black with only a flashing underscore cursor in the top corner of the screen. No HDD activity or CD-rom activity.
I have done the recovery about ten times now. All with the same result. I have tried the repair procedure using a Vista boot CD and I have also tried it using another disk that came with the computer, Vista anytime upgrade. There are no faults found, it see's the hard drive and shows that the vista files are on it, also sees the winRE partition.
I have even tired installing fresh from the anytime disk. This also reformats the drive, copies and unpacks all the necessary files, starts to install updates off the disk and then says it needs to reboot. It reboots and goes straight to the black screen with the flashing underscore cursor. This happens whether I press the "hit any key to start from CD-rom" or leave it to boot from the HDD.
I have been trying to fix this for two days now including endless hours of forum searching, my friend, whom the pc belongs to is getting quite irate as am I. I need help. Does anyone know how to fix it?

    Hi
According to your message I believe that the HDD is faulty.
I think there is a faulty master boot record (MBR) on the HDD and therefore the notebook refuses to start.
One question; did you try to set the BIOS to the default settings? If not try this.
If it doesnt help and the notebook will still not boot up then you should ask the ASP for the check.
In my opinion its a HDD issue and possibly the HDD must be replaced!
    Greetings

  • Equium L40-10X - Can't install Windows

    Hi all,
First actual post but been around on and off for a while. I hope somebody here can help!
I have a Toshiba Equium L40-10x laptop with a strange problem. It came to me second user with the problem already so I don't know any history other than what I have tried. When you boot the machine it comes up with a TRAP 00000006 exception error and stops. The hard drive has been low level formatted, formatted and partitioned and has nothing on it. The memory has been replaced and confirmed working. When you try and use the recovery cd (F12 on startup) it goes to the select boot option menu, I select CD player and it makes a few noises and then the error appears. I have also tried a WIN XP and WIN Vista CD with the same effect.
Googling the problem seems to suggest NTLDR problems or memory but drive has nothing on it and memory has been tested and confirmed fine.
Other possibilities are CD drive or BIOS. Bios version is at 2.10 and I know that BIOS available is 2.30 but unable at the moment to work out a way to upgrade the bios. I do have a USB Floppy drive available.
So, thats the problem, any thoughts?
    Thanks

Have you access to the HDD using floppy start disc?
Connect the HDD to other notebook, create two partitions, copy I368 folder on second partition. With floppy disc try to access this folder and start WXP installation using winnt32.exe.
Check advanced search option on this forum and you will find many threads with good description how to do this.
Play a little bit with it. ;)
Is the optical disc drive working properly?
