Equium L40-17M Vista volume problem

I recently had my laptop restored to factory settings due to a problem and since having it back I can no longer use the 'fn' button to control the volume and have to change it manually using the icon on the taskbar. Does anybody know how I can get this working again?

I agree with Akuma.
This function is controlled with small tool integrated in VAP.
Remove VAP from the system, restart your notebook and install VAP from Toshiba download page.
I really hope it will work again.

  • Equium L40-17M PSL49E - Wlan stoped working after BIOS update

    Hi all,
I have problem with my lap-top.
The laptop is Equium L40-17M, model PSL49E-00C005KS.
Before couple days i update my BIOS with version P20B200 (bios-20080617131309), and after update, internal wireless stop working.
Show me device is enable but activity is off, and i can't turn on device.
First thing what i think is "Windows" and i start recovery disk. But after recovery problem is still exist, wireless do not working.
Then i put external USB wireless, and try to connect with router.
Computer recognize USB but he also do not working good, therefore the problem is not in wireless (i am not sure for this), but i think that problem is it because laptop can't recognize correctly USB device.
I want to flash bios with old BIOS but i don't have it
I will grateful to someone who have same problem, tell me how i fix it.
Or send me old bios for my laptop.

My mistake, I don't explain correctly what I done.
Yet yesterday I download driver for WLAN from Toshiba site and install it, but is no result, problem still exist. Combination FN+F8 is forbidden (no displaying icon or not working signal lamp) - its all the same laptop don't have WLAN. It is absolutely strange.
My laptop OS is: Windows Vista premium (32bit), and first I download BIOS for Vista version 2 of course (I am not such stupid to download BIOS, before read notice), after problem I download & BIOS for XP (just for test).
And result from test is: WLAN yet not working, when I push Fn+F8, icon for WLAN show me that device is turn off and every time is always off. No matter what button I push or what command execute. Install driver for WLAN, but its same result at - not working devices.
After all this operation I flash BIOS, with version for Vista, recover laptop with recovery disk and install driver for WLAN. No matter, my hard working was unjustifiable, device not recognized & not working.
May be tomorrow I try to install Linux, just for try-out.

  • Equium L40-17M Disc partition re-balancing

I have a Toshiba Equium L40-17M (UK) laptop where the pre-formatted C drive is almost full, showing 2.48Gb free, and occasionally the disc full message appears.
In my opinion, I don't have that much software installed, over and above the pre-installed Vista, Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader and a few other fairly small items. I've defragged the drive, used disc cleanup and got rid of any surplus items.
The E drive (on the same disc) is showing 16.9Gb free, which is fine, as I don't have a requirement for much more file space.
Having looked at the Disk Management options for both drives, I can see Shrink Volume, but not Expand Volume.
My question is this: If I shrink the E drive, will the space released be automatically added to the C drive?
    Regards
    Pete

I think the free space will not automatically added to drive C but try it. If the free space will not automatically added to drive C you can added manually.
Furthermore I have found an interesting article on the Toshiba website about the new Disk Management tool from Windows Vista:
    http://195.182.196.33/kb0/TSB7101OB0006R01.htm
And if you ask Google, Im sure that you will find more articles about this. ;)

  • Equium L40-17M: WLan connection working but light no longer works

I have recently transferred my laptop Equium L40 17M... from Vista to Windows 7 64 Bit and since then my WiFi Light has not worked --- any ideas????
    HELP!

    Hi
I assume you are not able to enable the WLan and therefore the WLan does not work in Win 7.
First of all you should ensure that WLan card driver was installed properly and that WLan card was recognized in device manager.
No yellow exclamation marks should be visible in Network adapters.
Here a page with WLan drivers:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads
I think your notebook support REALTEK 802.11(B/G) RTL8187B WLan card so you have to choose Realtek WLan driver.
    Furthermore you have to ensure that WLan was enabled;
You have to put the WLan switch to ON position in order to enable WLan LED light
Additionally you have to use FN + F8 buttons to choose WLan card.
If Fn buttons would not work, then you have to install the VAP (value added package) and Flash Card Support Utility. You can choose the tools released for Satellite L500...
I did this and this worked

  • Re: Equium L40-17M: Recovery Disk has left hardware inactive

    I had my L40 17m Psl49e crash and die.
I phoned for help and i was advised to run my recovery disk.
I doing so i can start my laptop BUT no usb device will connect, no network card is found plus a host of other issues.
It did ask me me if i had an add on disk (which i dont) has this stopped all drives and setting from being correct?

    Hi
Did you use the supplied Toshiba Recovery disk or did you install the Windows OS using an Microsoft disk?
I think the devices do not work because of missing drivers or wrong drivers.
If USB does not work, then I recommend installing the chipset driver.
If LAN or WLan card is missing, then install the LAN or/and WLan driver.
Maybe you will need some details about the devices inside the notebook.
Install an hardware diagnostic tool called Everest Home Edit. This helps to get info and about hardware.

  • Equium L40-156 boot up problem

I have an Equium L40-156. When I press the power button the power light comes on but there appears to be no hard disk activity. If I manually switch it off by pressing the power button for several seconds, leave it for a couple of seconds and press the power button again it starts normally.
    Any ideas please?

    Hi mate,
Did you recently updated your BIOS, installed some more RAM/another HDD or some software?? Maybe some driver update??
Since when does the error appear? And do you have still warranty on it?
So, if yes, then bring your machine to an authorized service partner and let them check your machine. Would be the best...

  • Equium L40-17M - Deleted DVD drive

    Hello all,
I'm having trouble with my computer and wondered if anyone could help. I think i may have deleted a driver by accident, I use to be able to burn music using the cd.rw but I can no longer find this drive to use anymore.
The only drive that comes up now when I go to burn music is Pioneer dvd-rw dvr-k17a ata device or image recorder. I have tried most things to try and sort this but nothing seems to work, including systen restore and using the product recoverey disc, which just wiped all my files!!
I would be very grateful if someone could help in this matter

Sorry if that message was confusing, I have checked my device manager and there are no yellow boxs, all it say is dvd/cd rom and when i click on that it shows me the device Pioneer dvd-rw dvr-k17a ata.
Basicaly the problem im having is i can't burn any music onto a cd anymore.
Whenever i go to burn a cd it will only let me do it to a dvd r/w disc because there is no cd/rw drive showing.
I have tried it on many burning sites but mainly use Nero.
I'm also using Vista 32bit if that is any help hope this makes abit more sense???

  • Equium L40-17M: What maximum HDD size can I use?

Just wondering if anyone knows the maximum hard disc size I can install, and what I should be looking for when buying one?
    Many thanks

    Hi
I think the L40 supports the SATA 2.5 HDD and its not matter what HDD size it is.
The notebook should handle every 2.5 SATA HDD.
Currently the 500GB 2.5 HDD is the biggest size on the market but in the next time you will find 2.5 SATA HDD which would support 1TB (1000GB).

  • Equium L40-156 - Vista to XP

I made my own copy WinXP, I used nLite to put sata drivers, I made boot cd with new XP, when I restarted my laptop I can see DOS screen.
Do you know what command I have to use to start XP instalation?
    Thanks

The nLite program creates a simply, bootable XP CD!
You dont need any commands to start the OS installation. You have to boot from the new XP CD and the OS setup should start.
If this not possible then I assume you did something wrong and the new created XP CD is not bootable.
In such case I would recommend to create new XP CD and to implement the Intel Storage Manger again!
    Best regards

  • Equium L40 HDD sata drivers for Windows 7

I have Equium L40 17M (PLS49E) running XP... and i want to install Windows 7 and cant.... i need the sata HDD drivers .
But i cannot find these anywere.. i tried the Toshiba driver site and some other driver sites .
I had the same problem when i wanted to go from Vista to XP
And found out i just needed to add the HDD Sata driver into the ISO i was making
I having tried the Vista drivers in it
So does anyone know were the Windows 7 HDD sata drivers are (storage manager)
or if i can use the Vista ones
    Thanks
    Joepeash

    Hi
Normally you can get all drivers on the Toshiba page:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
I have checked the page and it seems that for Windows 7 not all drivers available. So as you already wrote you can try the Vista driver because the most of them are also work on Windows 7.
Alternative you can check the Intel page. Maybe there you can find a newer driver that was official released for Windows 7.
If you dont know how to use this driver exactly, use the forum search. You will find hundreds of threads. ;)

  • Equium L40 - Windows wont start, message on screen

    Hi
    I have a Toshiba Equium L40 - 17M.
Recently when updating my virus protection my computer tried to restart but now wont load properly.
Now everytime i try to switch the computer on, after the initial Toshiba setup screen I am greeted with the following message in the top left corner of the screen.
    A disk read error occured
Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart.
However, this message just appears again!
    Any suggestions please!?

It could be a file system corruption problem, in which case you can connect the HDD to another PC and run CHKDSK on the drive.
If that's no help, then check the HDD for bad sectors using the Advanced Test in Hitachi DFT (Google is your friend)
Or you can try running Recovery from your Recovery Discs. This will format the HDD, so you will need to backup your data first if its still there (you can use a USB 2.5" HDD Adapter).
If you really need your data back, there are Data Recovery programs you can download to search the HDD for the lost files.

  • Equium L40 - Vista refuses to boot after product recovery installation

    Hi,
I have had to carry out a product recovery uses the supplied restore disk on an Equium L40 (PLS41) laptop. The recovery procedure does its job to the end, reformats and copies all the files then restarts. Now the problem starts....
The pc gets past the BIOS splash screen then it goes completely black with only a flashing underscore cursor in the top corner of the screen. No HDD activity or CD-rom activity.
I have done the recovery about ten times now. All with the same result. I have tried the repair procedure using a Vista boot CD and I have also tried it using another disk that came with the computer, Vista anytime upgrade. There are no faults found, it see's the hard drive and shows that the vista files are on it, also sees the winRE partition.
I have even tired installing fresh from the anytime disk. This also reformats the drive, copies and unpacks all the necessary files, starts to install updates off the disk and then says it needs to reboot. It reboots and goes straight to the black screen with the flashing underscore cursor. This happens whether I press the "hit any key to start from CD-rom" or leave it to boot from the HDD.
I have been trying to fix this for two days now including endless hours of forum searching, my friend, whom the pc belongs to is getting quite irate as am I. I need help. Does anyone know how to fix it?

    Hi
According to your message I believe that the HDD is faulty.
I think there is a faulty master boot record (MBR) on the HDD and therefore the notebook refuses to start.
One question; did you try to set the BIOS to the default settings? If not try this.
If it doesnt help and the notebook will still not boot up then you should ask the ASP for the check.
In my opinion its a HDD issue and possibly the HDD must be replaced!
    Greetings

  • Equium L40 start problem

    Hi
I have to use F1 to start my Equium L40 every time i tun it on. It will then boot up ok but it has forgoten the time and date, once i update the time/date, the computer works perfectly i can access all my email accounts etc without having to re set anything.
The problem started after replacing the battery due to the old one being almost completely dead. I've noticed that the computer will not run on AC alone without the battey fitted but is still charging the battery ok. (so the adapter is ok)
I like the computer and don't really want to buy a new one but it's very frustrating and time consuming when i turn it on.
Maybe there is a back up battery i can change to repair the fault?
    Any help would be appreciated?

Thanks for the advice i must admit i havn't had the unit on charge for more than about 4 hours so i'll give it a try.
My suspicion is that a circuit has overheated and failed because it's been overloaded trying to charge a worn out battery and is causing the issue of not working on the ac adapter alone.
It's not too much of a stretch of imagination to think that the failed circuit also charges the Bios battery so it may be just flat not faulty! (in which case a long charge may have no effect)
If the long charge fails i may need advice on stripping the computer, recognising the Bios battery so that i can test it.
Has anybody got a repair manual or know where to get one?
I'll let you know what i find
    Thanks

  • Equium L40-10X - Can't install Windows

    Hi all,
First actual post but been around on and off for a while. I hope somebody here can help!
I have a Toshiba Equium L40-10x laptop with a strange problem. It came to me second user with the problem already so I don't know any history other than what I have tried. When you boot the machine it comes up with a TRAP 00000006 exception error and stops. The hard drive has been low level formatted, formatted and partitioned and has nothing on it. The memory has been replaced and confirmed working. When you try and use the recovery cd (F12 on startup) it goes to the select boot option menu, I select CD player and it makes a few noises and then the error appears. I have also tried a WIN XP and WIN Vista CD with the same effect.
Googling the problem seems to suggest NTLDR problems or memory but drive has nothing on it and memory has been tested and confirmed fine.
Other possibilities are CD drive or BIOS. Bios version is at 2.10 and I know that BIOS available is 2.30 but unable at the moment to work out a way to upgrade the bios. I do have a USB Floppy drive available.
So, thats the problem, any thoughts?
    Thanks

Have you access to the HDD using floppy start disc?
Connect the HDD to other notebook, create two partitions, copy I368 folder on second partition. With floppy disc try to access this folder and start WXP installation using winnt32.exe.
Check advanced search option on this forum and you will find many threads with good description how to do this.
Play a little bit with it. ;)
Is the optical disc drive working properly?
