Equium M40X and a wireless network

Hey all,
I've just got my new Equium Notebook and when i try to connect to my wireless home network, i can only manage to connect with limited or no connectivity (it can't refresh the ip address either).
I'm positive its nothing to do with the network becasue all my other computers work well.
I've got all the passwords right and as far as i can tell all my setting are correct, i've tried both the internal wireless adapter and an external one both to no avail.
Can anyone offer any insight to this problem?
-Steve

Hello
Your problem is very strange to me. Usually if you are able to make any kind of connection that means that the WLAN card functionality is OK and maybe there is some problem with WLAN settings.
As far as I know it can happen that there are periodic performance drops with the WLAN card that you have, but it should not happen with an external one. If you have the same problem with two different cards there must be some false setting.
It is not easy to explain what the problem can be.

I have connected my time capsule to motorola SG6580 modem via ethernet.  I have a wireless network on the motorola and a wireless network from the time capsule.  I get duplicate IPs error messages (no connection) sometimes when trying to connect devices to the wireless network. How do I fix? Sometimes devices cannot connect to the network because of conflicting IPs.  I look on the Motorola and every device has a unique IP assigned but occasionally a device has taken the IP of another device.  I have been writing down all the devices and the IPs they have been using.  It happens more with PCs than Macs, ipads or iPhones.

If the Time Capsule is set up correctly in bridge mode, then it is the responsibility of the Motorola modem/router to provide the correct IP address assignments for all devices on the network.
Check to insure that the Time Capsule is correctly set up to operate in bridge mode as follows:
On your Mac, open AirPort Utility
Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Network tab at the top of the next window
Insure that the setting for Router Mode is configured to read "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Once you have confirmed that the Time Capsule is configured correctly, everything else is the responsibility of the Motorola modem/router as far as network routing and IP address assignments for devices.
If you continue to have IP address issues, then you should contact the Internet Service Provider (ISP) that provided the Motorola device to you and ask them to fix the issue.

  • Time capsule blinking amber and my wireless network has vanished after factory reset

    Hello,
I have an Apple Macbook aluminum body with a Motorola cable modem hooked up to the Time Capsule which acts as my router. After turning the power off in my home, the internet has not been working. The light on the TC was green, but I had no internet because Airport had a "self-assigned" IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet. Then, I decided to do a hard reset and restore my setting to factory. The light on the TC is blinking amber. When I go into Airport Utility, it gives me this message: "Airport Utility was unable to find any Airport wireless devices". On top of all this, when I did the hard reset, my wifi network is not on the list of Airport networks in my range. It has completely disappeared. I have all the wires connected properly to the router and TC. Please help, this scenario is very frustrating.

If you performed a factory default reset, the TC is now broadcasting a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx, where the "x" could be either a letter or number.
You must first log on to this wireless network (there is no security or password) and establish a connection.
Then, if the TC was reset properly, you will be able to open AirPort Utility and re-configure the TC.
When you click Update to save your configuration settings, the TC will "dsiappear" from AirPort Utility. This is normal. Close AirPort Utility and wait for the TC to restart.
Then log on to the "new" wireless network that you named during the configuration.

  • SOLUTION TO Time Capsule and extend wireless network using AEBS, Printers..

    Hello GUYS
I find the solution: at least I have extended wireless using TC and old AEBS.
: well everybody have same problems to initialize second AEBS, and set it up.
    OK follow this steps:
put next to each other TC (time capsule) and AEBS (airport extreme) -> switch AEBS off
If you followed installation TC correctly it should work without any problem.
    SETING UP TC PART 1
pres in finder Command + Shift + U =then click Airport utility
    set your TC with manual.
On piece of paper record Airport ID:
    Click on TIME CAPSULE
I recommend change name not to use deffault long name for TC. Simply call it TC if you want. Set password.
In wireless. Write a name of your Network, keep it simple TC627 what ever. Write it down on paper. security WPA2 personal and password.
    Update. and close utility
    End of part 1
    Part 2:
    AEBS setup.
Switch AEBS on: No need to switch off TC
Press reset button for more than 5 sec. so everything is restore to factory settings.
-> in the bar top click wireless and select AEBS. You have to do this otherwise Airport utility will not recognise AEBS.
When you are done. Command shift U
Click airport utility. and manual setup.
-> write down the Airport ID.
Set up your AEBS, name something simple so you know what it is. Password and security.
Here do yourself favor use the same passwords as on TC and security.
    NOW ->
    click Wireless.
*Wireless network has to be same as on TC.*( it is on the paper)
    Select Participate in wireless network
Radio mode b,g compatible or only N it is up to you.
I setup WPA2Personal again with the same password( same on TC)
    Click WDS
    Select WDS remote
    select Allow wireless clients
and now write the TC airport ID into WDS main: number (it is on your paper)
    Update.
    switch off utility.
no go to right top and change airport back to TC.
    Go to manual
    Click Wireless:
    Select Participate in WDS Network
Click WDS: wds mode to Main
allow wireless clients: and write into WDS remotes AEBS ID, (it is on the paper).
    and update.
    both airports will restart.
    and you are extended.
You made it. Go to Utility Cmd,shift, U and you should be able to see both airports.
Now what you have to do is to take AEBS to different place.
Put it somewhere in second room. Go back to your computer. Leave it for couple of minutes. 10 -15 is ok.
to make sure your TC can find AEBS. If not TC will indicate by flashing green and orange. = >AEBS has to be closer.
correct is that TC has still green light.
Before you start with time machine: read what files to include
    hope it helps.

  • Airport and a wireless network

I set up a wireless network via an Airport Extreme, then I extended it via a second Airport Extreme.  Now I have two wireless networks, one named  "Network" and the second one named "network 5Ghz"  both are working and both use the same password.   Why is this happening?  How do I correct it?

Apple's default setting is to use the same wireless network name for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signals.  This is the simplest setting for most users to use.....the reason being that wireless devices will automatically connect to the best signal quality based on their capabilities and distance in relation to the router.
Personally, I use this setting as well, since I'm willing to let the wireless device choose what they think is the best signal with which to connect.
However, there are some folks who swear by assigning a separate name to the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signals. Their reasoning is usually along the lines of......"I have a 5 GHz signal and I want my laptop to connect to it".
So, they point the laptop at the 5 GHz network.  This works great if the laptop is in close proximity to the router.......(the same place the laptop will automatically connect anyway when the same default name is used for both bands)......but as the laptop moves further away from the router, it will usually try to hang onto the 5 GHz signal much longer than it should......at a location where the 2.4 GHz signal is stronger (and probably faster).
So, it is your choice here. Using the same name for both bands is much simpler for most users in my opinion. Most users will get better results with less effort with Apple's default setting. That is why I recommend this setting for most users.
If you want to spend more time trying to figure out which signal is better at any given location, and you don't mind changing networks on devices all the time.....then try the separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz settings. You too may swear by this.

  • Using laptop on separate home and office wireless networks

I have a laptop the connects (wireless) to my home router and my other home computers. At work we have a wireless router (both home and office are linksys wrt54g's). I can connect to the router at work, get to the internet, but can't "see" the other PCs at work.
Is there a good reference to trouble shoot the various settings for the routers, Windows XP, firewalls, Symantic, McAfee, and so on? I have administration privileges on all the systems and routers, but can't seem to get the settings right. BTW both routers are hardwired to PCs that use the same version of McAfee's security programs - my laptop uses Symantic security programs
    Thanks.

If you intend using your portable Mac in a variety of different environments then I recommend you create a series of Locations and then switch between them as required. Keep Automatic for your most used network such as your home or office and then create additional ones for say, wireless networks on the road, an internet connection via your mobile phone and so on.
I am getting confused though, you say
'Actually, even if I boot to the login screen, I will see the G4 appear and can start transferring files, but after 10 -15 minutes, it disappears.'
From what you said earlier in this thread I thought you meant that the G4 laptop would either be visible or not to the other Macs when you join one of your networks not that it is visible for a while then drops off the network. Which is it please?
If it is the latter then check in System Preferences/Energy Saver to see if 'Put the hard disk(s) to sleep ...' is ticked and if it is untick it. You might also want to extend the time for 'Put the computer to sleep ....' to see if that makes a difference.

  • What's the difference between WDS and Extend Wireless Network?

    Hi,
I have a situation where my main computer (Mac Pro) is wired to an Extreme (n), and I have an Express (n) in another room in the house to Bridge to other computers for better wireless reception.
The manuals say I should be connecting the wireless computer via WDS. The way I have it connected right now is as such.
    Extreme:
    Create a wireless network
Allow this network to be extended is checked
    Express:
    Extend a wireless network
    Allow wireless clients is checked
Is the above method correct, or should I be setting the Extreme and Express via: Participate in a WDS network?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

I am not an expert on wireless networks but here is what they do in a nut shell:
WDS is a network composed by access points that work together to expand your network without the need of "wired" connectivity. so one of the bases will be wired, the rest are not , they just relay info to other computers... good for small to medium size business / homes
EWN is a network composed of wired & wireless networks/access points that work together to expand your network. pretty much you could have 5+ bases plugged in to a LAN / WAN covering different areas of your company / home (long range for medium / big business / Bill Gate's home, etc.).

  • Check Point VPN and local wireless network

I need to use Check Point VPN to access a client's remote network. Now I cannot access my wireless printer or AirPort base station, even when I have disconnected and shutdown the Check Point client. I have removed the Check Point startup items from LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons in order to restart without Check Point loading at start up.
When I start in Safe Boot I can access the printer, but not with a normal start up. How can I find the other startup items that are interfering with my local wireless network?
    Am running Mountain Lion.

    Thanks for the reply.
I found an installer in the Library as suggested.
The installer did not install successfully.
I trashed the installer, repaired permissions, downloaded the software again and was able to install successfully.
I will not be able to test the connection until I am off the network but I am better off.

  • Set-up and secure wireless network

can you hook up my wi fi network and make it absolutely secure ? i hate astound!

Can you be a bit more specific?! Are you trying to secure your wireless network?? If yes, I would suggest running WPA2-AES as the security mode for the best possible wireless security. Which router are you using?

  • 2 Extremes, 2 IP Ranges and 1 wireless network

i have 2 Airport Extremes both on the same sub net but in different IP ranges what i wanted to know is can i bridge the wireless networks so i get one wireless network name without it causing problems?

Sorry, I can't duplicate your setup here, but don't think that what you are trying to do will be possible with two Apple routers.
The "second" AirPort Extreme cannot act as a DHCP server to provide a different IP address range if it is in Bridge Mode. To provide IP addresses, the "second" AirPort Extreme would have to be configured to "Share a public IP address".
But, even if you manage to get both routers assigning a different IP address range without conflicts, you will still have to deal with a Double NAT error on the network. This will slow communications in some instances and not allow devices on one sub net to talk to others on another sub net in other cases. It's not possible to predict in advance what your results will be, you'll have to try it out.

  • Conflict with WRT160N and Windows Wireless Network Connection

I have a WRT160N router connected to a Verizon FIOS cable modem with five computers (all Windows based) wirelessly connected to the N router.  Four of the computers auto detect the N router connection when the computer starts up using Windows Wireless Network Connection and operate well.  One of the computers, which is the only one running Easylink for router configuration, will not connect through the Wireless Network Connection.  I have to use Easylink to manually connect.  The WNC gives a msg that Windows cannot configure this wireless connection and to configure the wireless connection using Wireless Zero Configuration service.  When I configure WZC correctly the WNC sees all available networks and allows me to select the Advanced Wireless checkbox to allow Windows to connect to the wireless network.  However, when I reboot the computer none of the configuration parameters are saved and I am back to manually connecting using Easylink and going through the entire process again.   Any suggestions?    Thx

Uninstall the EasyLink and connect manually. I think EasyLink 3.0 or later is coming soon ..

  • Using airport express for itunes and another wireless network for internet

Is there any way i can use my airport express just for playin music through airtunes, and log onto the internet using a different wireless network?

Hello bleno567. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Is there any way i can use my airport express just for playin music through airtunes, and log onto the internet using a different wireless network?
Yes, you just need to configure the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), that will be used to stream iTunes, as a wireless client.

  • Large Bed and Breakfast Wireless Network

I need some advice on setting up what is probably a very unique wireless network. My client wants me to set up a wireless network for their guests in a bed and breakfast which happens to be a castle. It is very pricey to stay there so the wireless will be free, but they do want a splash page. Also it is a very large property and has many thick walls. There are also suites in the turrets of the outer wall so the wireless will need to cover a large area. It is all hard wired (including the four suites in the turrets and some mechanical rooms near/on the roof) but I am not completely sure what direction I should go in as far as wireless set up goes. Any advice would be wonderful!

YOu can use Cisco WLAN controller for configuring the splash page.
    Here is the config example-

  • Airport Express, Vista and FON Wireless network

Hi. I have a strange behavior on my wireless network. I configured my Airport Express as part of my wireless network managed by the Fonera (FON Network router). The Airport Express is always on as the wireless network. Yesterday all was working fine and I was able to play music and surf the net without a glitch. I started iTunes, the software found and connected the remote speakers and music was playing while I continued to surf. Today I restarted Vista and connected wirelessy to the Internet. As soon as I started iTunes I found that my Airport Express was no more available (it was still on since yesterday). I started the AirPort Utility, found the Airport Express and went again through the process of let it participate to my network, reset the WPA and add (again) the password. The Airport restarted but it was unable to find any wireless network. The reason is that in the process the Fonera has been reset to different settings!! I put again the right parameters in the Fonera and is back working. How come that adding the Airport Express to my network, the wireless network itself is reset? In my opinion this should not happen. Any ideas? Thank you very much, Massimo

    Hi Donny
I had the same problem with my airport. In the end I got it printing by sending it to the Ip adress of the base station(10.0.1.?/192.168.2.?). I sent it through a custom made port which went to that Ip adress as well.
    Hope this helps.

  • Added a scanner with Secure Easy Setup and my wireless network has disappeared?

I just replaced my fax/scanner.  I have a secured wireless home network.  I installed the fax/scanner with Secure Easy Setup.  The fax works - but my home network as disappeared!!!  Where did it go?  Do I have to start over and reinstall my whole wireless network?  It took me forever to get it working the first time!  HELP!!!

when u run easilink again it will give you the chance to change some settings wirelessly, it could be that you have changed some settings and missed that part...
you could check that by accessing the set up page of the router 192.168.1.1
