Equium M70 - What does rpm mean in terms of HDD?

Hi,
I am currently looking to buy a hard drive but was not sure what the rpm means, ie is it better to have a higher rpm or lower?
Thanks for any help

Hi buddy,
Higher rpm (revolutions per minute) is better or lets say faster. Data can be read a little bit faster but higher rpm causes more heat, noise and higher power consumption.
Lower rpm is simply the opposite.
In my opinion its depending on the applications that you use. If you use the notebook just for Internet and e-mails a HDD with 5400 rpm is enough. If you often do office work, picture editing, etc. I would take a model with 7200 rpm.

  • TS1372 i have an error 1434? what does this mean?

i have an error 1434? what does this mean?

    Hi Ceecee,
Find My iPhone is a generic term that is used for this feature regardless of whether it is turned on on an iPad or an iPhone.
If you deleted your iCloud account on your iPad, and have not signed back on to iCloud, then the Find My iPhone feature is turned off, and your device is not protected nor can it be tracked if it is stolen.
Sign back into iCloud on your iPad, and go to Settings>iCloud to turn Find My iPhone back on to remedy this situation, if you wish.

  • What does synchronisation mean? What data is being synchronised?

On my 80GB IpoD classic I replace music several times. After successful transfer of imported CDs from the mediathek onto the Ipod I finally clean up the mediathek; that means:
Mediathek and IpoD can never be synchron because of a clompletely different contents. (I manually administer my IpoD)
Synchron to me means: 2 or more different parts do exactly the same thing.
    my question:
What does synchronsation mean in this context? What info has to be synchronized between Ipod and mediathek?
    Thanks for answering

You are correct that the common meaning of synchronise is to make two things the same. iTunes uses this term slightly loosely but if you set your device to sync with selections from your iTunes library, e.g, certain playlists, podcasts, TV shows etc. then changes in those part of your library can be automatically reflected on the device. For iTunes syncronisation is one way - from iTunes to the device - although it can also transfer purchased items from the device back to iTunes. When automatically syncing it can also update play counts & last played dates both from iTunes to the device and from the device to iTunes.
If you manually manage your iPod then it will still have data that needs to be copied to it or deleted at some point. Whenever data is being modified on the device it will display the "syncronising" screen.

  • What does "played" mean for podcasts and tv shows?

What does "played" mean for podcasts and tv shows, in terms of the settings menu where you say to synch only "unplayed" shows? Does it mean you started playing it, or that it has played all the way through?
And how does this relate to the "dots" next to podcasts in the menu? These dots seem to go away when you start listening, but do not finish, a podcast. Is this the same as "played"?
    Thanks!

You are probably seeing a USB cable under the iTunes icon. This means the Apple TV is having problems and needs to be connected to iTunes to be Restored. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4367

  • What does "other" mean at the bottom of the sync page? It is taking up a large amount of space on my phone.

What does "other" mean at the bottom of the sync page? It is taking up a large amount of space on my phone.

The other section contains temporary files, such as text messages, iMessages, voicemail, and other storage that is meant for small short term use.  If the other section of your phone has grown quite large and you can't account for what it could be then you may have experienced a syncing error to iTunes.
I have experienced this problem frequently during my years with the iPhone.  The other portion of my phone grows with every sync of my phone to iTunes.  There comes a point where it takes up the majority of the space on my iPhone, making the device near unusable.
When it grows to this extent is usually cased by an error during the syncing process.  Any information iTunes can't reconcile during the syncing process is saved out of sight, out of mind, in the 'other' section.
You will never be able to see or recover this section unless you are very savvy and know how to poke around the archived iPhone back-up on your computer.  (if you are thinking of trying, stop.  It will not be worth your time and effort, or if using third party software, the money or spyware associated with it *cough* iTools *cough*).
The only fix I have found that works is to back up your phone to iTunes, and preform a 'restore'.  This erases the content of your phone, and restores it to factory settings.
That is you phone will be as if you took it fresh out of the box.  You can preform a restore from back-up through iTune, or iCloud to get your content back.
Lo and behold your have trimmed the mystery meat.

  • What does "wheel" mean for custom access

What does "wheel" mean when allowing custom access to a folder?

    wheel= admin
In computing, the term wheel refers to a user account with a wheel bit, a system setting that provides additional special system privileges that empower a user to execute restricted commands that ordinary user accounts cannot access. The term is derived from the slang term big wheel, referring to a person with great power or influence. It was first used in this context with regard to the TENEX operating system, later distributed under the name TOPS-20 in the 1960s and early 1970s.
The term was adopted by Unix users in the 1980s, due to the movement of operating system developers and users from TENEX/TOPS-20 to Unix. Modern Unix implementations generally include a security protocol that requires a user be a member of the wheel user privileges group in order to gain superuser access to a machine by using the su command.

What does this mean? Is this dangerous? Why is Apple here?
    - Any possibly reason behind this, I would like to know :

Do you have a imap email account with some relationship to apple (icloud)?
After some more research I think you do:
    iCloud: Mail server information
Incoming server is imap.mail.me.com. If I ping imap.mail.me.com it says it's IP is 17.172.34.200 which is in the range you see above.
So should you be worried?  Guess not if you trust icloud and apple mail servers.

  • Managing a site - what does it mean? (Was: plss)

what does it mean 2 manage a site

Copying from Managing a website : Dreamweaver (http://oreilly.com/catalog/dreamweavernut/chapter/ch06.html)
Everyone knows that planning is the first step in web site development, but many people overlook the need for ongoing management. Without proper maintenance, a complex site can become riddled with broken external links, missing files, and broken CGI scripts.
Thankfully, Dreamweaver offers all the webmaster tools necessary for deployment and long-term maintenance, such as FTP, link checking, and file checking. Even better, Dreamweaver's site management tools simplify development and help reduce the likelihood of problems down the road. Dreamweaver helps you to manage and synchronize both the local site (the development version on your personal computer) and the remote site (the version on a web server that gets published on the Internet).

    Hello,
FYI -- "here", as in these forums (which are targeted at BB/RIM services rather than carrier services), would not be the best place to find out something specific for one carrier. With so many thousands of carriers with dozens of different plans each, it's pretty much impossible to keep track of the specifics. The generic information is this:
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/What_do_I_need_a_Data_Plan_for%3F
But, there certainly can be variations on that given the different packages carriers put together. I do suggest you do as JSanders recommended -- contact your carrier and find out what you've signed up for.
    Good luck!

  • What does it mean same JVM?

What does it mean "located in the same JVM"?
For example, when using local interfaces for EJBs, the EJBs must be located in the SAME JVM?

When you type the following at the command line on windows....
    notepad
    An "application" called notepad starts.
If you type it again a second application called notepad starts.
There are two applications and nothing (for terms of this discussion) is shared between them. So if you write "abc" in the first one, then there is no way for the second one to ever see that.
When you start jboss/weblogic on server A that starts one application.
If you start jboss/weblogic on server B then that starts another application.
The 'local' EJBs run in the application where they are called from. While a remote on might run on A or might run on B, you have no idea where it really is.
And a local on A will never be visible to anything on B. Where that isn't true for remote objects.

    Hi ,
The HttpURLConnection class's getResponseCode() method returns -1.
getResponseMessage() returns null.i m accessing my servlet through a proxy.i know only about 1xx to 5xx codes.i dont know what does it mean by -1.But at server side the request is properly sent and processed and i m getting 200 and ok after processing at serverside. the object is sent to client also. but it is not received by the client.

As it says perfectly clearly, right there in the API documentation for the method:
"Returns -1 if no code can be discerned from the response (i.e., the response is not valid HTTP)."
