Equium P200: realtek ethernet adaptor error installing Linux

I have an old Equium P200 - 1Ed, which has started to play up.
When I try to install Linux, it gives me a realtek ethernet adaptor error, and I researched the problem on the forums.
Apparently my hard drive is old and decrepit.
I tried reinstalling Vista from the Toshiba default CD, just out of curiosity, and it installed fine, except, the internet seemed unwilling to connect.
Tried Linux again but still same realtek problem.
Apparently I can download the flash bios driver, and try reinstalling the bios....seems like my last hope.
Anyone know where I can get the bios driver for P200-1ED?

> When I try to install Linux, it gives me a realtek ethernet adaptor error, and I researched the problem on the forums.
Have you found some reasonable explanation on some Linux forum?
Be careful with BIOS update. It is windows based update and can be started under windows OS.
Best thing is if you use original Toshiba recovery image and start BIOS update. Be sure notebook is connected to AC power supply, all running applications closed and dont interrupt BIOS update.

• Equium P200-1ED - have problem with installing VGA driver

Hello
I have problem with installing vga video driver, each time in installion it stops on
Version: 6,14.10,4833 and there is error poping up.........
Please help!

Hello
What error message is it exactly?
Make sure that the chipset driver and SP2 is installed at least.
I had a similar issue that I cant install the display driver. The error message was something like the hardware is not supported
But it was very easy to solve this problem. I installed the driver via device manager. I have selected the graphic card and choose update driver. Then I did choose the advanced installation to choose the directory by myself.
Anyway, after restart the driver was installed and it worked. :)

• Equium P200-1ED Installing Windows XP Problem - SATA Drivers

I have just bought a Toshiba Equium P200-1ED laptop with Vista installed and want to install my copy of Windows XP Pro. This is the latest disc with SP2 included.
When I boot up it does not recognise the hard drive. I assume I need to download these drivers and load them onto a floppy and hit F6 when the windows setup screen prompts me to do so.
Questions are;
1) Where can I get these drivers from?
2) Will the machine recognise a USB floppy Drive?
3) Am I right about what I need to do?
Thanks in advance for your help. :8}

How to install XP Home on the following Vista laptop. 05/01/08
Toshiba Equium A200-1V0 PSAF5E
Introduction
These are the steps taken by us to remove Vista from our Toshiba laptop and replace it with XP Home. There may be inconsistencies in our methods and we may not have all of the exact drivers installed, but everything appears to work OK for us.
Our laptop now runs much faster, opens and closes faster and is more stable.
This is not a 5 minute operation. It should not be attempted by anyone with only a passing knowledge of computers as it is very easy to screw things up. The shop you bought your PC from will charge a lot to fix things and they will probably insist on re-installing Vista!!.
Be prepared that this will also probably invalidate your warranty.
Luckily, I have a 2nd PC running XP that allows me to access the web. This is very useful as it means that while your Vista machine is 'broken' you can still search for help and download driver files. I also used my 2nd PC to create the modified XP installation CD mentioned further on.
You must have access to the web via some PC or other to get the required drivers.
Method
Firstly, while you still have Vista on your laptop machine, download and run an interrogation program such as 'Belarc advisor' which will list all the drivers and software that are installed on your laptop. Print it out for future reference. This may be useful later when searching on the web for any drivers that may need updating.
Now, make sure you have noted down all the required settings for your Internet connection.
Also, backup any files that you may have placed on the hard drive as you will lose the lot including any emails and address books and web favourites etc.
Unfortunately, the Toshiba disc that comes with this laptop does not appear to have any of the required drivers with it. Instead, I think that it relies on Vista keeping copies on your hard drive. This is not very bright as when the hard drive fails you have lost everything!
This therefore means that you have to go on the web and search for all the required drivers to run XP successfully.
Some we could not find, for example the Wireless network adapter, however this was no problem as once we had installed XP and connected to the web via the Ethernet cable to our Router we were able to run 'Update Driver' for each item missing.
Go to 'Device Manager' via 'Control Panel' then 'System' then 'Hardware'. Then look for any yellow question marks for any problems. Right click and run 'Update Driver' for the hardware update wizard and allow the PC to look on the web 'this time only'.
The ones we did this way were: Wireless adapter, Audio adapter.
Unfortunately an original XP SP2 CD does not contain the required drivers for this laptop. Therefore when you boot the CD it will, after a few minutes of installing files, say that you have a hardware problem as there are no drives present.
To rectify this, you will need to download the correct Intel ICH8M SATA AHCI Controller drivers. I couldn't find this on the Intel website, but instead searched on Google for it. and got it from: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2101
The other required drivers that we found on the web were:
Intel chipset device software installer
Web page
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=816&DwnldID=14528 &strOSs=45&OSFullName=Windows* XP Home Edition&lang=eng
Or if this link doesn't work try this:
http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/sb/CS-021273.htm
Select 'Download Intel chipset software installation utility' on the left hand side and select your operating system 'XP Home'
Select 'INF Update Utility - primarily for Intel 3, 900 series chipsets'
and download it.
Intel graphics driver: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset
Web page
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=2800&DwnldID=1438 8&strOSs=45&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Home%20Edit ion&lang=eng
Or if this link doesn't work try this:
http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intelgm965/
Now select 'software and drivers' on the left hand side and select your operating system 'XP Home'
You will be presented with a list of files.
Select Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* XP (exe)
and download it.
Marvell Yukon Ethernet Driver
Web page
http://www.marvell.com/drivers/driverDisplay.do?dId=175
Or if this link doesn't work try this:
http://www.marvell.com/drivers/search.do?reload=false
On the right hand side, select 'W2000/ XP/2003/Vista x86 & x64 Multi-Language Installer (32-bit and 64-bit) for Yukon Devices'
Creating the XP Drivers disc
Add the SATA drivers to a copy of your XP install CD using a program such as NLite.
You will need enough spare hard drive memory to take a copy of your XP install CD (approx 700MB).
Run the program 'sp37005.exe' and it will install to your hard drive. Don't install to a floppy.
Download 'NLite' from: http://www.nliteos.com/download.html
When you run NLite it will probably say that you need to install '.net Framework', if so, quit NLite and go and find the program. This is a Microsoft program that you can find by searching on Google for the relevant page on the Microsoft website.
Now place your XP install disc in your CD drive, if it autoruns, exit it.
Then run Nlite and follow on screen instructions.
The program will ask where your XP disc is then it will ask where you want to save the copy.
On the 'Task selection' screen select 'Drivers' and 'Bootable ISO'. then press 'Next'.
Now select 'Insert' then 'Multiple Driver folder' and go and find your downloaded SATA driver files. Now select 'All' and 'OK. The program will list the available SATA drivers. Only select the two that mention 'ICH8M'. Now press 'Next'. The screen will show the selected drivers. Press 'Next' again and then 'Yes' to the prompt, and then 'Next' when done
You are now presented with the 'Bootable ISO' screen.
Put a new burnable CD in your CD writer, wait for it to be recognised and exit any window that might pop up to allow you to install files
Now, in Nlite, under 'Mode' select 'Direct Burn'
Under 'Label' enter something like ' XP for Toshiba Equium A200' to identify the disc.
Leave Advanced settings alone and now add in the other required drivers by clicking explore and copying them to the root directory of the temporary XP directory on your hard disc. It might be best to create a 'Drivers' folder in the root directory to make them easy to find later.
Now click the 'Burn' button. Now follow the rest of the instructions to complete.
You have now created an XP install disc which contains your required SATA drivers.
-As you can tell, this is quite convuluted but avoids you having to buy a USB floppy drive and it provides a neat solution.
Hasta La Vista!!
Now you are ready to begin the cleansing process, if you are brave enough to continue....
Firstly, re-boot your laptop and while booting press F12 to change the boot order so that the DVD/CD ROM is first. Alternatively use F2 and then change the Boot order from there.
Now insert your new XP install disc in the DVD/CD drive and re-boot the PC, selecting boot from CD when prompted.
The XP CD will now start copying files and eventually will display an options screen
Select to install Windows.
Then delete the C: hard drive partition (with Vista on)
Delete the F drive partition used by Vista also.
You will have to follow lots of warning prompts to delete the partitions.
Now follow the instructions to create an NTFS partition on the C drive.
Now install XP as instructed.
Don't worry that the graphics are a bit chunky as once Windows has finished installing you can run the graphics driver you copied to the the XP CD to correct this.
Run the three driver files:
win2k_xp14311.exe Intel graphics driver
infinst_autol.exe Intel chipset software installation utility'
setup.exe Marvell Yukon Ethernet Driver
Your graphics should now improve and you should now be able to connect to the web (after running the web setup wizard). But don't do this until you have installed your Antivirus and Firewall software.
Now go to 'Device Manager' via 'Control Panel' then 'System' then 'Hardware'. Then look for any yellow question marks for any problems. Right click and run 'Update Driver' for the hardware update wizard and allow the PC to look on the web 'this time only'.
Hopefully, everything should now run OK.
Now go and have a drink to celebrate!

• How to install Win XP on Equium P200

Hi guys,
I found a very usefull tutorial how to install windows xp onto Equium P200 laptop.
Problem is that when I have done everything whats in that tutorial (used nlite, made xp install cd with sata drivers) Win Xp is showing error.
When u boot from cd, and all the drivers are loaded it will show me a blue screen saying that the installation was stopped to prevent damage to my pc, and its saying that the error is in file pci.sys ...
Any ides what it could be?
Thanks in advance

Hi
Im not 100% sure why this error appears but Ive got one idea.
Possibly the installed Intel Matrix Storage Manger doesnt support the right chipset.
Ive tow different Intel Matrix Storage Manger versions and both versions support different chipsets.
Fact is that different Equium P200 series exist which needs different drivers.
I think you should visit the Toshiba European driver page and should choose the right notebook series! Please compare the series number which can be found at the bottom of the unit!!!
Then try the installation again!

Anybody please help me to solve the problem.

You can try a NIC driver from RealTek, directly.
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/
... but for a SPARC system? That may be problematic.
Does OBP see the device? Use show-devs at the OK prompt.
If it isn't seen at OBP's elementary hardware level, the OS will never use it.
If it is recognized at OBP, then try the manufacturer's drivers.

• Hello, I am trying to upgrade to yosemite, but I get the "disk cannot be used to startup your computer" error. Resizing the partition does not work, I get the error "MediaKit reports no such partition" probably because I installed linux in dual boot

Hello, I am trying to upgrade my macbook pro to yosemite, but I get the "disk cannot be used to startup your computer" error.
Resizing the partition does not work for me and I get the error "MediaKit reports no such partition" probably because I installed linux in dual boot and the disk manager is lost.
Anyway to tell the yosemite installer that it should not pay attention whether the disk is bootable or not ?
If I am doomed, any way to delete the installer and downloaded OS from my hard drive ?
Thanks for your help

As usual, the Linux installer wrecked the partition table. You would have to boot from your OS X installation disc and repartition. Doing so will of course remove all data from the drive, so you must back up first if you haven't already done so.

• USB ADSL Modem fails to install on Equium P200-1ED

I have a Toshiba Equium P200-1ED; Model Number# PSPB5E-003004KS.
I wish to use my Thomson SpeedTouch 330 - a USB bus powered USB ADSL modem - to my Toshiba Equium P200-1ED and have downloaded Release 4.1 of the Windows Vista driver from this web-page:
http://www.thomson-broadband.co.uk/codepages/content3.asp?c=7&ProductID=471
... however when the Vista modem driver is executed, the software fails to recognise the Thomson SpeedTouch 330 ADSL modem when the driver software prompts me to connect the modem.
The Thomson SpeedTouch 330 ADSL modem works perfectly when used with my old Toshiba/XP laptop (which was how I downloaded the Vista driver for the modem for the Equium).
What is wrong?

Problem Solved!
Un-installing all USB modem device drivers, disconnecting all USB devices and removing all USB host controllers and hubs from the Vista device manager and then rebooting the notebook MADE NO DIFFERENCE.
However when I received the new Thomson SpeedTouch 330 USB ADSL modem drivers on CD-ROM from the manufacturer the modem installed immediately.
I can only assume that there is a problem with the download of Release 4.1 of the Windows Vista driver for the SpeedTouch 330 from this web-page:
http://www.thomson-broadband.co.uk/codepages/content3.asp?c=7&ProductID=471
... as the drivers on the CD-ROM from Thomson work - but their web download of the driver for the SpeedTouch does not.
The problem was with the driver for Windows Vista - the laptop and modem now work correctly - as they should have done at the first installation attempt!
Thanks for your help.

• Equium P200-1IR - Adaptor for a lorry

I have an Equium P200-1IR.
I'm looking for an adaptor that I can use is a lorry..Can anyone tell me where I can get one?

Hello
On the Toshiba website you can search for Accessories and Peripherals:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Peripherals & Services => PC Options & Accessories => PC Options & Accessories Home Page
There you should find such an adaptor if there is one available for this.
With the part number you can search on Google to find some online shops where you can buy it.
Or you ask the local authorized service provider. They can order all original Toshiba parts.

• Ideacenter k450 - Error 1962 after installing Linux

After installing Linux (Fedora 19) I get the error 1962 when trying to boot.
- Secure Boot is off
- CSM (Compatibility Support Module) is enabled (boot mode auto, EUFI first)
- OS Optimized Defaults (disable)
I googled a lot, found lots of solutions ( none of them work 100%)
I got grub working once, dunno anymore what I did, but then I could only boot Linux, when trying to boot Windows
I got the error:
boot\bcd 0xc0000225
I googled for a solution to that problem. but none of the found solutions work...

I fixed it.
The solution is to install Fedora(linux) from DVD in EUFI modus, you do this by creating an EUFI boot usb stick and boot from that, and then continue installing from the install DVD.
This way Fedora will install grub-efi correctly and not install a regular grub which will not work in EUFI mode or some misformed grub-efi.

Is HP likely to upgrade the driver for this unit anytime soon?

Hi:
I just checked the Realtek site and they don't have any windows 8 drivers for the network adapter that is in your PC released  yet.
My understanding is that no drivers will be available until October 26th at the earliest, which is the date that Windows 8 will be available for sale.
You may want to see if the Realtek W7 driver works better for you as it is probably newer than the one you have.
4th one down on the list is the auto-install file.

The slow startup would not be a problem but netfs and mpd do not like it when the network is not up when they start (mpd music dir is on a network share), so I have to manually restart netfs every time I reboot.
Other computers on the same network do not have the same problem, so I do not think it has anything to with the router.
Is there anything I can do to make my ethernet card initialize faster?
If you need any more information, please ask.

Strike0 wrote:... but dont you need some sort of dhcp client/or daemon for that as well?
Try adding dhcpd to your rc.conf array.
Netcfg seems to automatically start dhcpcd (I can see it htop).
Strike0 wrote:Alternatively check this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … _of_dhcpcd
This did not change the time. The only change was that netcfg started dhclient instead of dhcpcd.
Strike0 wrote:what happens if you pull the network cable after it got the link, wait until network is unreachable and then plug it in again? Does that take 40 seconds as well for the new dhcp lease?
Yes, it takes 40-60 seconds to get a connection after plugging the cable in again.
ratcheer wrote:What driver is your kernel loading? I have a very similar Realtek ethernet controller and it does not work well at all with the kernel's default r8169 driver. I had to go to Realtek's website and download the older driver r8168, which works perfectly for me.
My kernel is loading r8169. r8168 is available in the AUR. I'm going to try it as soon as I can.
Thanks.
EDIT: r8168 needed only 10 seconds from loading the driver to having a connection. Thank you for the tip! Including [SOLVED] in thread topic.

• More Trouble with Realtek Ethernet RTL8111/8168/8411 (rev 12)

Hello everybody!
I got the same problem as others with the ethernet controller model mentioned in the title, but i have (rev 12) not 6 or 10 like others ...
I followed this thread:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=176413&p=2
... but none of the solutions worked.
i plugin the ethernet cable but network manager still shows "no cable attached" and no ip adress information ...
here are my details:
i have the same problem in kernel 3.16 and 3.14

• Battery and ac-adaptor problem on LINUX with Satellite L10-102

Hi,
However I installed Linux.I'm trying from at last month.
I installed and tired some of linux type : Mandriva 10.1 OE, Mandriva LE 2005, Knoppix 3.8, kurumin 3.0,kurumin 4, kanotix (latest rel.), suse 9.1 , kubuntu 4.0...
I installed a lot of linux applications : kacpi, toshutils, fnfx, acpi tools, laptop-mode, some kernel acpi patches...
I complied some of kernels : 2.6.8-11mdk, 2.6.9,2.6.11, 2.6.12 ..
However I can't get battery and ac-adaptor info-states on linux.
What I can do ?

Feliks,
I was tried so at last month :
first I writed it : L10 and what the answer is you know(*).
second I writed it : L10-102 and what the answer is you know(*).
(*) The same answer there is all of both :
"Input error
Please insert the Type without any extension like 'CDS' or 'DVD'.
Only numbers and M,A,R,P or S on the first character are allowed!
E.g. A30, 5200, M10, P10.
Please do not use blanks. "
Thanks...
I tried Mepis 3.3.1-1 distro on satellite L10-102 at yesterday. It can't get battery and ac-adaptor status too.
