Equium U400-145 HDD upgrade

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Equium U400-145 and it currently has Windows 7 on it, and a 160GB hard disk. Is it possible to upgrade to a larger (1TB) hard disk, and if so can I use another external HDD (ie connected by USB) to take an image of the current one using Clonezilla, then do the hardware upgrade and restore the image to the new drive once its fitted? (Or would Windows 7 need to be reinstalled)?

Theoretically it should be possible. Clonezilla is not known to me but in the past many people have done similar thing using other applications like Acronis. In your case I think you must use Clonezilla Live.
U400 is god machine and runs perfectly with Windows 7. I don't know if you were able to install it perfectly including all necessary drivers, tools and utilities.
Back to HDD upgrade. I don't have this machine and cannot say for sure is everything will be OK but I think new HDD should be recognized properly with full 1TB capacity.

    Hi guys,
First of all I can't find the EQUIUM U400-145 in this website and secondly I would like to ask how long does the buttery normally lasts.
    Thanks

Sorry but I can find it there. I am asking what you are doing wrong. It is so easy. There is just one Equium U400 available. It is PSU42E and it is exact your model.

  • Equium U400-145 - Need new AC adapter

    Hi,
AC adapter part no. is PA3468E-1AC3
    Model No. is pa-1750-09
I need to replace the power adapter, however I'm am unsure of the power rating required is 75w or 90w?
    Input is 240V
    Output is 19V
    Thanks

Hmm... And why you dont buy the same AC adapter again? Are you not satisfied with it?
I mean if you search with this part number on Google you will find some online shops where you can buy this adapter.
Furthermore you can buy new original Toshiba parts from an authorized service provider.

  • Cannot install recovery image on my Equium after HDD upgrade

    Hi
I just installed a new hard drive to my Toshiba Equium laptop I contacted Toshiba who informed me I could fit up to 1TB I opted for half way with a 500GB.
After installing the drive I inserted recovery disk after a while it had loaded with the message operation completed successfully. Next message windows set up could not configure windows to run on this computers hard ware. Then windows could not complete the installation to install windows on this computer restart the installation...
At the end of the recovery process a message tells me to remove recovery disk and exit as soon as I exit laptop shuts down and doesnt re boot automatically. When restarted next message windows Vista is starting for the first time then the cycle starts again. I have tried to reload recovery several times as instructed but no good.
    Any help much appreciated

I dont know which notebook model do you have but if recovery image is Vista it must be pretty old model, maybe Equium A200.
To be honest I didn't make experiments with HDD upgrade on older models but I can imagine recovery image make a problems with HDDs with huge capacity.
Post please model name and which HDD have you inside now.
By the way: if possible try to install Win7 using Microsoft installation disc. Im sure it will works without any problem.

  • Equium U400-124 - disk read error

    Hi guys
I have (had?) a Toshiba Equium U400-124 laptop with Vista Home Premium 32 installed.
Last night it just crashed, so I rebooted, and a message came up with "a disk read error occured, press ctrl+alt+del to restart".
This reappeared when I did the above.
I received no disks/dvd's with the pc when i brought it, so created a "vista recovery disk" on my desktop pc and tried it.
It says "windows is loading files", goes through the "egg timer" windows part, but then just hangs on a black screen (the arrow cursor is visible and moveable).
I left it all night after trying it a multitude of times, but still black.
    Any clues?
I have read that I will need an original Vista disc to boot from?
    Regards

    Hi
Can you access the advanced boot menu pressing F8? If yes choose repair my computer. Some files will be loaded and then choose the Toshiba recovery function and follow the screen instructions. Windows will be reinstalled now with the factory settings.
If cant access the advanced boot menu you must reinstall Windows using a Microsoft disk because you didnt burn the Toshiba recovery disk as yet (you had to do this yourself).
But as Eldoarado said you need the SATA drivers. Otherwise you cant install Windows because your notebook is equipped with an SATA HDD.
First download the drivers on the Toshiba page as Eldoarado suggested and then create a new Vista installation disk with these drivers. Therefore you can use vLite:

  • EQUIUM U400 BIOS Update link broken

    Hi,
I'm trying to download the Bios update for my Equium U400 (dated 4th November) but the link appears to be broken. I have hunted high and low for a way to contact Toshiba about this but can't find anything helpful.
Does anybody have any ideas as to where else I may be able to find a suitable bios upgrade?
    Cheers.

    Hi
I think this could be a temporal server issue and I think this should be fixed in the next time
You should try to download this BIOS later

  • HD recovery folder/ repartitioned Equium U400-124

My Equium U400-124 is getting on a bit and a couple of years ago I merged the two partitions to make the data storage a bit easier. This left the HDD recovery folder in a folder named "merged-partition-content" and everything else in the main partition of C.
I am now getting to a point when I think I should consider a factory default recovery, but the start-up process fails to find the HDD recovery folder, and even if I used the rescue disc made when the computer was first bought, how would it negotiate the new partitioning?
    Any ideas?

Thanks; I do have a recovery disc, but am a bit cautious about using it in case it destroys all my data in the process of trying to sort out the partitions. It does not help that my back-up portable disc has just died; should I wait until I have replaced that?
Does using a recovery disc give you the option of cancelling the process if it comes up against a partition issue? Is there a way of obtaining a disc with vista on it from the toshiba, if I cannot simply restore windows from the recovery disc?

  • Equium U400 - Bios won't flash

    Greetings,
I downloaded the bios update tool to update my bios from 3.1 to 4.7
    [BIOS 4.7|http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=UK&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=198&selProduct=776&selSho rtMod=721&language=13&selOS=30&selType=all&yearupl oad=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=all Machines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=8&se lectedLanguage=13&type=all&page=1&ID=77400&OSID=-1&driverLanguage=42]
Tried to run it under windows 8 64bit, but it stops at "Flashing bios". Then I tried to run it under windows 7 64 bit, but the result was the same. Tried to leave it for a night, but it was still "flashing bios" after 8 hours. I had to reboot everytime.
Any idea how I can flash the bios?

Equium U400 is not Win supported, therefore I dont think that you could upgrade the BIOS from Win 8.
As far as I know BIOS update requires some essential Toshiba software which needs to be installed.
For example the Toshiba value added package has to be installed in order to start the BIOS update.
I think you have goo channes to update the BIOS running the notebook with factory settings. I mean using the system preinstalled by Toshiba.
But why you want to update the BIOS?
BIOS should be updated as last possibility to solve notebook problems.

  • Satellite L50-A-19N HDD upgrade question

    Hi,
I would like to upgrade the standard HGST HDD to a faster Seagate SSHD, and the problem is that in this model L50-A-19N there is no HDD cover, the whole laptop bottom must be removed like in this Link: [Video|http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IG0lW7t92bI]
My question is can I upgrade the Disk by Myself and if not what can I do to replace the Disk not losing the warranty. I read the manual for this model and there is nothing about HDD upgrades there.
    Regards.

Usually on most notebook models HDD is placed at the bottom and access to it is not complicated. As you can see on your notebook model it is not so easy and HDD exchange is not supported. With other words it should not be done by notebook owner.
Valid warranty is very important so please don't do anything on your own. HDD exchange in your case can be done by authorized service provider. If they do this warranty will not be cancelled.
Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. Addresses and phone numbers you can find on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/ASP_SUPPORT/
    Good luck

  • RAM & HDD upgrade on Satellite L30-115

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba L30 - 115, and I want to upgrade from its default to 1GB / 2GB RAM and 160GB / 250GB Hard Disk is that possible and if so can you provide me the item number of the modules and the capacity of each. I also would like to know whether the system would support any upgrade such as I wish to do so?

    Hello
Answer for RAM upgrade is very easy. This Satellite notebook can handle with 2 GB RAM max and compatible DDR2-400/533 1GB memory module has part number PA3411U-1M1G. you can use two 1GB modules and upgrade it to maximum.
About HDD upgrade is not easy to offer precise info because I know that Toshibas specification says that HDD can be upgraded up to 80 GB. Unfortunately I didnt find any public document about exact list of compatible HDDs but I believe you can upgrade it with 120 GB HDD.
Sorry buddy but I didnt find more info. Maybe someone with L30 will post here about HDD upgrade.

  • Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade

Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade.
What happen: My laptop was working fine, no blue screen issue, no funny business at all. I bought a new SSD Intel 120 GB and thought it would be a good idea to replace the HDD. I shutdown and disconnected the power adapter, waited a couple of minutes and removed the battery. I opened up the back case and replaced the HDD. And put all the screws back and put the battery back in.
Problem: The very first time I turned the power on, nothing happens besides a black screen. I pressed the dvd drive it works and opens up and closes. I waited for about 30 mins and still has blac screen. When I mean black screen, no bios menu, no logo, just a black screen with the fan sound on.
    I have tried these:
    1. Unplugged everything - battery, adapter, and pressed the power on button for about 60 seconds, nothing, the laptop turns on with the LED display on for both on and battery LED's. But nothing but black screen, no sound of windows loading just the fan and black screen.
    2. I tried putting back my old 2.5" and nothing but black screen.
    Thoughts and suggestions?

  • Equium U400 is not reading or burning discs

My Equium U400 is not reading or burning discs.
    Can anyoe help please ?

    Hey,
Ok, your notebook isnt able to read or burn disks but what does this mean exactly?
Is your drive listed in device manager?
=> You could try to remove it and restart your notebook.
Do you see yellow exclamation marks in device manager on ODD?
=> Check the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Its known issue.
Do you get an error message if you try bruning a disk?
=> Try another burning program like CD Burner XP
Have you checked the Toshiba website for a firmware update?
    Which OS you are using?
As you can see, a lot of not answered question they would be important to help you.

  • Monitor on Equium U400 is inverted

Started Equium U400 and screen is now inverted, believe it may be the inverter or backlight in the monitor.
Would appreciate any assistance in trying to, either find a solution to fix it or suggestion of a place to buy the correct part for my laptop.
    Many thanks
    Clark

    hi thebear2006
as i am reading your posts correctly with the magnifier and changing colors to inverted everything is ok?
    try this:
    - deinstall grafics driver
    - restart and install the newest one
    - after this restart once more
if this not solves the issue maybe another application is causing this strange behaviour.
i dont think ist hardware related because you can change colors...
the inverter provides the power for the light tube, if it is broken you have no more backlight but you still can see a dark picture on the screen.
naybe you have to recover to get rid of that....
rarely it could be a broken wire....
