Equium U400 - Bios won't flash

Greetings,
I downloaded the bios update tool to update my bios from 3.1 to 4.7
[BIOS 4.7|http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=UK&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=198&selProduct=776&selSho rtMod=721&language=13&selOS=30&selType=all&yearupl oad=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=all Machines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=8&se lectedLanguage=13&type=all&page=1&ID=77400&OSID=-1&driverLanguage=42]
Tried to run it under windows 8 64bit, but it stops at "Flashing bios". Then I tried to run it under windows 7 64 bit, but the result was the same. Tried to leave it for a night, but it was still "flashing bios" after 8 hours. I had to reboot everytime.
Any idea how I can flash the bios?

Equium U400 is not Win supported, therefore I dont think that you could upgrade the BIOS from Win 8.
As far as I know BIOS update requires some essential Toshiba software which needs to be installed.
For example the Toshiba value added package has to be installed in order to start the BIOS update.
I think you have goo channes to update the BIOS running the notebook with factory settings. I mean using the system preinstalled by Toshiba.
But why you want to update the BIOS?
BIOS should be updated as last possibility to solve notebook problems.

  • EQUIUM U400 BIOS Update link broken

    Hi,
I'm trying to download the Bios update for my Equium U400 (dated 4th November) but the link appears to be broken. I have hunted high and low for a way to contact Toshiba about this but can't find anything helpful.
Does anybody have any ideas as to where else I may be able to find a suitable bios upgrade?
    Cheers.

    Hi
I think this could be a temporal server issue and I think this should be fixed in the next time
You should try to download this BIOS later

  • HP 15-d030nr Bios won't flash

Was updating drivers from the HP website.  The bios update was one of the updates I chose to do.  Upon rebooting, it said no boot device was found.  After checking a few things, I checked the bios, and it seemed like it hadn't completed upating.  The legacy menu choice was missing, and it seemed like other menus were not complete.
Saw the technique to flash the bios with a USB flash drive, but I haven't been able to get it to work.  Does the USB drive need to be formatted first with FAT32, NTFS, etc?  Does it need to be made bootable?  I am pressing Windows+B when I start the laptop, is that correct or is there another way?  Also, after trying the Windows+B, the Caps lock light will flash 2 times in sequence again and again.  What does that mean?

    Hi there @JRGJAX,
The following is useful to figure out what the blink/error codes are. From what you said about your problem, I am sure it will come as no surprise that two flashes indicates corrupted BIOS.
Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps
See the following, for a way you may be able to restore your BIOS, one does involve Windows +B, but read the instructions carefully, it is possible that it could be a timing issue. I hope that it helps.
    Restoring the BIOS
If you need to recover the BIOS with an external device, then you will need this.
    HP UEFI Support Environment
This one is not as useful to you right now, as a it assumes your computer can boot up normally, but I include it for completeness and for future reference.
    Updating the BIOS
    I hope that this helps.

  • MSI 770T-C45 won't post after flashing BIOS with M-FLASH

After flashing AMIBIOS 8.3 to v8.7 with M-FLASH via USB stick I can't get any post.
Had I read this forum before I wouldn't have done it, but here I am.
Fan starts, LEDs are off, no beeps at all, power button does nothing. Black screen.
After force flashing (yes, I am THAT stupid) the prompt said it would reboot in 5 seconds and after that nothing.
    Here's my setup:
    Board: MSI 770T-C45
    Original Bios: v8.3
Flashed Bios:  v8.7 (flashed with M-FLASH)
VGA:   EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
    PSU:   Enermax FMAII EG465AX-VE 460W
    CPU: AMD Phenom x4 9650
    MEM: Kingston DDR2-667 4x2GB KVR667D2N5/2G
    HDD: SAMSUNG 840 SSD 250GB
    OS: Windows 8 Pro 64bit
I tried every CMOS clearing method found in previous posts and threads (including this and this.)
    1. Unplugged from power, waited 5 minutes, removed the battery (5mins), changed jumper position (5min), switched it back (5min), plugged it in (5min) and powered up with and without USB stick in the hub next to network hub with old BIOS (v8.3) inside. Pressed CTRL+HOME, anything, not a single message or beep or LED flashing.
Also I removed all RAMs and kept one in the first socket. Nothing.
I really don't know what to do next. What seems to differ from other users is LEDs non working, what does that mean?

The problem here is that after update 8.6 the m-flash module was updated, so yes your mobo is a brick, but there is still hope for it. I had the same situation a few days ago with the exact same model and was able to recover it by following the steps on listed on the below posts:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=133578.0
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=129989.0
It may seem complicated at first, but trust me its not at all.
Anyways you probably already have another mobo, send it for RMA or used it as frisbee, but it may come handy for some other doing the same noob flashing as we did

  • BIOS won't start - MSI GS70 Stealth

    Hi,
I have a GS70 but since I tried to update the bios (in the bios utility), the bios won't startup anymore. When I press 'del' during setup the screen goes black with a '-' on the screen. However windows does startup correctly when not entering bios mode.
I tried to do a flash through the DOS prompt with the following command 'afuwinx64 E1771IMS.E50' (I have the non raid version) to try to restore the problem but this didn't fix it.
I hope someone has a fix for this problem.
    Sincerely,
    Jochem

Just solved the problem thank you darkhawk.
If anyone has the same problem, here is what I did.
    - Prepared a MSI HQ memory stick
    - Since I couldn't boot from USB anymore I pressed F3 during bootup
    - Then in the menu go to dos-prompt
    - go to memory stick
    - type flashwin64.bat
    - after update hold power for 4 sec
    - Disconnect power cable
    - hold reset button for 5 minutes (since you can't remove the battery very easily on the GS70)
    - insert power cable
    - boot up
    thank you.
You shouldn't need to hold reset for 5 minutes, but holding it for 20 to 30 seconds should be sufficient. Needless to say, I'm glad you got the issue fixed.

  • Equium U400-146 - How to disable multimedia keys?

The Toshiba Media program opens when I close the lid on my Equium U400-146. I assume the lid for some reason has started to activate the illuminated dvd controls at the top of the keyboard.
Is there a way to switch off these dvd keyboard controls as I can use the mouse controls anyway?

    Hi
The illumination can be disabled in BIOS as suggested by Xardas.
Furthermore there should be an tool called ToshibaHWSetup. This tools provides some BIOS options which could be controlled running Windows OS.
The illumination option can be found there too

  • Bios won't see s-ata disk...

My bios won't see my WD 36,7 Raptor. When i start windows installer, it give me the F6 choise and i install the Fasttrak 376 driver or s-ata 376\378 driver (tried both), then windows is about to start installing but can't find my hardisk. Everything is connected correct so i don't understand whats wrong.
can anyone help me, please?     tnx

press ctrl + f during boot up and create a raid array.
THEN you press f6 key as you described.
you need to create a raid array even if its only 1 drive.
you should also consider to change that crap psu you got.
a q-tec 400w is MUCH worse than a enermax 300w for example and they tend to blow up way to often

  • Satellite A135-S2356 - BIOS won't recognize SATA Hard Drive

Hello everyone, hope you can help me out.
Got a used Satellite A135-2356, everything looks fine but BIOS won't recognize SATA HDD, shows no disk, downgraded BIOS to 1.30, no good, upgraded to 1.40, no good. BIOS has no options to change/test/detect HDD/SATA settings. Tested hard drive in another laptop and reads it fine. Got restore CD (Vista Basic 32) from Toshiba but since BIOS won't read HDD, can't do anything. Cleaned contacts, no good. This HDD must be too large or something for the board.
    *Hitachi HTS541612J9SA00, 120GB SATA, 5400 RPM*
    Thanks for the help!!!

    Hello Richie
To be honest I do not believe the HDD is too large for your notebook. I can imagine your notebook can handle with 160 GB HDDs too. Unfortunately there is no public document about HDD upgrade possibilities. I can imagine that ASP in your country has info about this stuff.
It is also pretty strange that HDD is not recognized properly. Long time ago I have had the same problem. Every time when I have used F12 at the start up HDD were not listed as bootable device. Solution in my case was to set BIOS to default settings. I believe your BIOS has already default settings but try to do this again.

  • Equium U400 is not reading or burning discs

My Equium U400 is not reading or burning discs.
    Can anyoe help please ?

    Hey,
Ok, your notebook isnt able to read or burn disks but what does this mean exactly?
Is your drive listed in device manager?
=> You could try to remove it and restart your notebook.
Do you see yellow exclamation marks in device manager on ODD?
=> Check the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Its known issue.
Do you get an error message if you try bruning a disk?
=> Try another burning program like CD Burner XP
Have you checked the Toshiba website for a firmware update?
    Which OS you are using?
As you can see, a lot of not answered question they would be important to help you.

  • Equium U400-124 - disk read error

    Hi guys
I have (had?) a Toshiba Equium U400-124 laptop with Vista Home Premium 32 installed.
Last night it just crashed, so I rebooted, and a message came up with "a disk read error occured, press ctrl+alt+del to restart".
This reappeared when I did the above.
I received no disks/dvd's with the pc when i brought it, so created a "vista recovery disk" on my desktop pc and tried it.
It says "windows is loading files", goes through the "egg timer" windows part, but then just hangs on a black screen (the arrow cursor is visible and moveable).
I left it all night after trying it a multitude of times, but still black.
    Any clues?
I have read that I will need an original Vista disc to boot from?
    Regards

    Hi
Can you access the advanced boot menu pressing F8? If yes choose repair my computer. Some files will be loaded and then choose the Toshiba recovery function and follow the screen instructions. Windows will be reinstalled now with the factory settings.
If cant access the advanced boot menu you must reinstall Windows using a Microsoft disk because you didnt burn the Toshiba recovery disk as yet (you had to do this yourself).
But as Eldoarado said you need the SATA drivers. Otherwise you cant install Windows because your notebook is equipped with an SATA HDD.
First download the drivers on the Toshiba page as Eldoarado suggested and then create a new Vista installation disk with these drivers. Therefore you can use vLite:

  • Monitor on Equium U400 is inverted

Started Equium U400 and screen is now inverted, believe it may be the inverter or backlight in the monitor.
Would appreciate any assistance in trying to, either find a solution to fix it or suggestion of a place to buy the correct part for my laptop.
    Many thanks
    Clark

    hi thebear2006
as i am reading your posts correctly with the magnifier and changing colors to inverted everything is ok?
    try this:
    - deinstall grafics driver
    - restart and install the newest one
    - after this restart once more
if this not solves the issue maybe another application is causing this strange behaviour.
i dont think ist hardware related because you can change colors...
the inverter provides the power for the light tube, if it is broken you have no more backlight but you still can see a dark picture on the screen.
naybe you have to recover to get rid of that....
rarely it could be a broken wire....

  • Bios won't upgrade

I have a 865GM2 board, I got the updated bios from the MSI website but the bios won't update. The board is in an OEM Advent PC but I can't get a bios from the as they no longer have a website.
Anyone know what I can do ?

ok firstly i did not build my sys for extreme OC !   although i am at 235fsb now and went active with raid 0 {been quite slow at work weather and all} i do OC slightly.
your power supply is very very low,AS your sys  IS you need a PSU with at least 22 amps on the 12 volt rail, then you could replace the mobo with a 800mhz FSB and still run your processor at 533 untill you could get a 800 fsb proc, then your ram will be holding you back and will need a matched pair {2 ram sticks, 256mb of ddr 400 in dual channel mode =800 fsb,for a total of 512 mb of ram }will get you started OCing.
    did you get the cd MS XP PRO Media Center 2005 SP2 with your purchase,as once you change the mobo you will have to reload the OS {HD}
use the profile section and create a sig

  • Equium U400-146 - No Backlight

    Hi there,
I have a Toshiba Equium U400-146 laptop. The warranty expired on the 17^th^, and the day after, the backlight failed. I can just about see the screen under a bright light, but this is not very practical. Currently, I am working around this problem by using an external monitor, however this means I can no longer use it at college to do my coursework.
What are the likely causes and solutions to this problem?
I presented the laptop to The Tech Guys in PC World, but for a backlight repair they quoted me the rather steep price of 230. I'm currently awaiting quotes from a few other places, but I saw a U400-146 screen for sale on ebay for about 65. However, I am reluctant to undertake the repairs myself, in case I were to end up completely ruining the laptop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
    > The warranty expired on the 17th, and the day after, the backlight failed
Thats really a bad luck :(
I think the FL inverter is faulty this small part controls the displays backlight and if it would be faulty then you could see everything like behind a thick fog!!!!
The FL inverter must be replaced this is a solution teh FL inverter is not really expensive...
But you should get in contact with an local technician because notebook disassembling is tricky an should be done by an experience person
