Equium U400 is not reading or burning discs

My Equium U400 is not reading or burning discs.
Can anyoe help please ?

Hey,
Ok, your notebook isnt able to read or burn disks but what does this mean exactly?
Is your drive listed in device manager?
=> You could try to remove it and restart your notebook.
Do you see yellow exclamation marks in device manager on ODD?
=> Check the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Its known issue.
Do you get an error message if you try bruning a disk?
=> Try another burning program like CD Burner XP
Have you checked the Toshiba website for a firmware update?
Which OS you are using?
As you can see, a lot of not answered question they would be important to help you.

  • DVD/ CDROM Drive is not reading or burning discs

My DVD/ CD Rom Drive has stopped reading discs of any format.
I have tried to update the driver and have been told that I am running the most recent available. Following some research online I understand that it may be something to do with the recent upgrade of iTunes and that it causes some conflict with the device driver.
I have deleted the Upper and Lower Registries as advised by Microsoft but this also hasn't assisted me. I know the system is connecting to the hardware as it thinks the device "is working correctly", but it just isn't finding the discs.
Any help would be very greatly appreciated.

  • Reading a burned disc

Good evening all! Have a quick question -- just burned a QT movie using iDVD in my G4 running Tiger with no issue. However, when trying to play it back in the same unit as I burned it, the computer does not read the disc and ejects the disc. When taking the disc to another computer, it works just fine (a MBP).
It reads other discs just fine, but just will not read anything burned in the unit.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

    Hi Tully
Yes this is a known problem which falls back to one or more of these:
    • Burned on as high speed as the medium states eg x16
    • Cheap media eg noname
    • To low free space on internal (start-up) hard disk <5Gb severe problems
    I do:
    • Save as a DiskImage and burn this with Roxio Toast™ (or Apple Disk Util tool)
at x1 speed. (affects only burnh time from 5 minutes to 20)
    • I only use Verbatim DVD-R (there are said to be other high quality brands too)
    • I reserve at least 25Gb free space
Most important is the burn speed - x1 => less burn errors
Stands alone DVD-players are better to handle this than Your Mac.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Equium U400-124 - disk read error

    Hi guys
I have (had?) a Toshiba Equium U400-124 laptop with Vista Home Premium 32 installed.
Last night it just crashed, so I rebooted, and a message came up with "a disk read error occured, press ctrl+alt+del to restart".
This reappeared when I did the above.
I received no disks/dvd's with the pc when i brought it, so created a "vista recovery disk" on my desktop pc and tried it.
It says "windows is loading files", goes through the "egg timer" windows part, but then just hangs on a black screen (the arrow cursor is visible and moveable).
I left it all night after trying it a multitude of times, but still black.
    Any clues?
I have read that I will need an original Vista disc to boot from?
    Regards

    Hi
Can you access the advanced boot menu pressing F8? If yes choose repair my computer. Some files will be loaded and then choose the Toshiba recovery function and follow the screen instructions. Windows will be reinstalled now with the factory settings.
If cant access the advanced boot menu you must reinstall Windows using a Microsoft disk because you didnt burn the Toshiba recovery disk as yet (you had to do this yourself).
But as Eldoarado said you need the SATA drivers. Otherwise you cant install Windows because your notebook is equipped with an SATA HDD.
First download the drivers on the Toshiba page as Eldoarado suggested and then create a new Vista installation disk with these drivers. Therefore you can use vLite:

  • 8.2.1 Not able to burn disc.

Since the most recent upgrade I'm unable to burn disc. I've done this before many times and have never had problems, nevertheless I followed these instructions after the first attempt failed http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2239
    Nothing happens after step 16.
Prior to upgrade I could watch in the "Window Player" what song the system was burning, also the check marks would change to completed status. Now it just sits there with a "Player Window" that reads "Burning Disc ... finishing."
After 3 hours, I clicked the "x" in the window. It then gave a pop-up, "If you stop this disc burn, your disc will not be usable. Are you sure you want to stop?" I clicked yes.
Window reads "Canceling disc burn... this may take a minute or two" after displaying this for an hour, I had to complete a "Forced Quit" on Itunes, though itunes was responding.
I've gone thru this process three times, and all 3 disc are unusable with 0 tracks.
I'm trying to burn 15 songs I purchased today from Itunes with at total time of 1:08:04, 136MB min onto a CD-R 700MB/80MIN disc.
    Anyone have a solution? Thanks.

I too am experiencing the same problems as mentioned above but I now am receiving a disc error message of "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media." This now happens whether I try to burn a Cd or try to back-up my purchases.
I have tried to burn a disc via finder first using a Itunes song file and second an Iphoto Jpeg. After both attempts I received this error code: 0x800Z006D I have not been able to find this error code.
Next I tried to put a DVD movie as well as an Apple install disc in my Superdrive. Both times the disc was spat out w/o reading. This also happens if I put in an audio CD. I've tried to install a laser lens cleaner, but this too was spat out.
Enter Utilities and clicked on Console and after I tried to load a DVD movie this message showed up in Console:
+2009-07-31 10:21:20.908 DiskImages UI Agent[252] Could not find image named 'background'.+
    +Can't load ///usr/standalone/i386/boot.efi+
+Error while getting file ID of /System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi. Ignoring...+
    +Workaround Bonjour: Unknown error: 0+
I am now on 8.2.1(6) after having burn issues with 8.1
I am lost. Is this a hardware, program, driver issue?

  • Will not read Office:Mac disc

After reading that the new Intel-based Macs will run MS Office for Mac, I tried to install it onto my new MacBook Pro. However, the disc drive will not even recognize the disc. The drive will make strange struggling noises before spitting the disc back out.
I have used the disc 2x before on PowerPC-based Macs... there is one product key still available and I'm positive that there is nothing wrong with the disc.
    Any suggestions?

One thing to check first . . .
Did you uninstall (not just trash) your MS Office Test Drive?
I believe the Demo?Test Drive came installed on your new MacBook.
I think there is an uninstaller in the Office folder.

  • ABCHD DVD - FCPX does not start to burn disc

when in FCPX 10.1 exporting out of timeline a film as blu-ray on a AVCHD DVD, when rendering is completed, it says "load media". When putting a DVD into the slot, after a few secondes DVD comes out again saying load media. Does anybody know why?

Download and install the free VLC Player from  http://www.videolan.org/   as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Not able to burn discs after itunes upgrade...HELP!

I've never had any issues with burning cds from my Mac and iTunes until yesterday. I've tried two different brands of CD-R discs (HP and Verbatim) and one CD-RW (Fujifilm). The CD-Rs initialize for a minute, then give me the following message: "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to respond properly, unable to record or retry." I discussed with another Mac user who said the same thing so she tried CD-RWs and it worked. I burned 10 of the 12 songs successfully-the last two ("Thriller" by MJ and "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Benetar if you must know) were of poor quality-cutting in and out, skipping a lot.
Of course, I need to burn 28 by tomorrow morning for a U10 Girls Softball Nationals gift bag...Any assistance or advice is appreciated.
I feel like if I could just uninstall the newest version of iTunes that I'd be okay. Not sure if that is the right path and not sure how to do it.
    Thanks!

Me again. Figuring that I probably had too much stuff in my iTunes library taking up space, I went through and trashed a whole bunch of stuff. I emptied the trash, restarted the computer and am still unable to burn CDs. I figure it must be a problem with the latest iTunes update. Can anyone help?

  • Error Reading Superdrive burned Discs

I have copied several home movies onto a DVD through iDVD & through Disk Utility. They appear to burn correctly, but whenever I try to play them on a DVD player, it acts like the discs are damaged.
The menu will play, but whenever I play the actual movie, the DVD player says "skipping over damaged area," and never plays. Any ideas?

Sorry I'm late to this thread, but I'm having similar problems. The discs I burn with Disk Utility can be played successfully on my iMac but not on my dvd player nor anyone else's. I've tried DVD+R and DVD+R DL. My dvd player (recent Sony 5-disc upconverting changer) says it can handle both, but no joy.
Do I need to use DVD-R and DVD-R DL media?

  • My PowerMac G5 will not read my Leopard disc, dual layer dvd, how do I force boot from UBS DVD drive to install?? Or is there another way. It just keeps spitting out the disc!!

I have a power mac G5. Ir originally had Tiger on it. When I reinstalled for some odd reason the disc decided to install Panther, no clue why!! Either way I got a hold of a Leopard disc for this computer. It is apple certified and bought from Amazon and works for this computer.
Hoever, for some odd reason it keeps spitting it out. Discs under 4.7 GB is reads fine but the bigger discs it wont seem to read. What I need is to know how to get, or force, it to boot from an extrenal dvd drive. Or any other methods to get it to install.

I do not believe you can "Upgrade" directly from the "Panther" installed on your computer to "Leopard".  You have to have at least "Tiger" installed already Before you can install Leopard.  Thus your Mac is not recognizing the Leopard Install disk.

  • Mac not reading Elements 6 disc

I have an early 2008 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard.  It's been awhile since I've tried installing Photoshop Elements 6, but I am trying currently.  Disc is good, no scratches, used for install plenty of times in the past.  Every time I insert it into the laptop, it takes the disc and thinks on it, like it's going to load.  But then just ends up spitting the cd back out.  Any help as to how to correct this?

Not mounting.  No other drive to try at this very moment, but hopefully when I can get ahold of a friend.  Disc is most likely good though, kept in original casing, and was working just fine when I installed in the past, before Snow Leopard.  However, I've been seeing a lot of similar posts to this without a definite fix.  I didn't have this issue before Snow Leopard.  Is it some sort of compatability issue?  Is there something that needs to be downloaded for a fix?

  • Toast crashed while burning, now Superdrive won't read or burn disc

my superdrive just died... today i was burning dvds... and it was stuck while verfifying, so I force quit... now it can't read any disc...
is there a way to reset the drive so the head can read again?
    thanks

    Hi Kid Calculator-
You can try resetting the SMU and the PRAM but you should also consider the possibility that the drive no longer works.
How to reset the SMU on a Power Mac G5 (Late 2004) or Power Mac G5 (Late 2005)

  • IMac 20 will not read DVD data disc

Today I tried to copy a DVD data disc and the iMac opened the finder Cue window to ask if I want to open the untitled CD. It was a DVD with 3+ GB of data. Funny, but the same disc opens on the PowerBook G4 17" just fine... has anyone else have this problem and have found a fix?
    Thanks
    Greg

If the drive can read a movie DVD then the problem must be that the OS DVD is either dirty or badly scratched. Look at the shiny side. If it has finger prints clean it with a lint free cloth. If it has scratches you can call Apple for a replacement disc for a nominal charge.
