Equivalent of JSTL / JSF variables in ADF Faces

Is there any equivalent of JSTL core variables <c:set property="" value="" /> in ADF faces? ...The problem with those JSTL variables are they are immediate expressions ($) and they cannot be used with EL expressions in ADF component properties, as they deal with {# defered}..We have <f:attribute> which we add that to any component, but can retrived only using from backend code when any events are generated. like event.getComponent().getAttributes()....
I am looking for some declarative attribute which holds some value within jsff page fragment....(not the one like managed bean attribute)

Yes, We can use keep the variable in viewScope....But how do you define any variable in jsff declaratively in that viewScope (not using any backing bean method) .....if you see <c:set > you can define that in page and use it across.....I cant use property listener or action listener ..as i can set these values only on invoking certain action on a component....i want to set them based on certain condition like using c:if and not on some action...I dont see any way other than using some backing bean and binding with some property and setting some value...

  • ADF Faces: is mixing JSF RI and ADF Faces tags supported?

    Hi,
    I'm looking at ADF Faces as a future possibility for our application that is currently based on JSF RI.
    When looking at the ADF Faces demo it strikes me that all pages are almost completely built up from ADF Faces tags.
    For instance
    af:form
    af:commandButton
    af:inputText
    are used instead of the equivalent core jsf tags f:form, f:commandButton and f:inputText
    I'm wondering if this is mandatory if we would like to use some ADF Faces components mixed within our existing application.
    In other words: are ADF Faces tags supported in the environment of conventional JSF tags? And mixing ADF Faces JSF components with JSF components by other vendors?
    Another thing that strikes me is that pages are constructed using ADF Faces tags for any and all markup content.
    I guess this is meant to support several different clients (normal browser applications, mobile clients, voice activation over telephone) using different renderers.
    In my experience abstracting markup this way inherently means loss of control over the exact markup that is sent to the client. This is not acceptable for all projects and customers.
    Is embedding ADF Faces tags within template HTML, within f:verbatim tags or not, supported?
    Regards,
    Joost de Vries

    You absolutely can mix JSF RI and ADF Faces tags. This is very much supported! You can swap in <h:form> and <h:commandButton> and <h:inputText>. Our versions support some features that the JSF tags do not, as described in our release notes.
    Your point about using tags to produce all markup is a very cogent one. For some projects, absolute control over HTML will be a necessary requirement, so we do support that style of development. But we believe strongly that the future does not lie in constant handcoding of HTML, but instead in building more powerful, flexible, and reusable components and assembling those into pages. This was one of the themes of a talk I gave with two coworkers at this past JavaOne.

  • Adf faces table and applet in jsf page navSubmit not working in IE

    Hi
    I have a jsf page with adf faces table and applet , previous / next navigation is not working for my table when i add the applet to the same page , it is working in firefox but not in IE .
    I have no clue what to change , can any one help. below is the sample code for my jsf page
    Best regards

    Code follows, not sure how to format the code here
    <h:form>
    <af:panelPage title="Test Adf faces table and applet">
    <af:panelHeader text="Orders">
    <af:table value="#{bindings.Orders.collectionModel}" var="row"

  • Create dynamic code on a JSF with ADF Faces

    Hi,
    the next is just sample, nothing to production system, but if I can do the sample I can do something to production system.
    Fine.
    let's suppose that I want to create a html link
    in run-time over a JSF page with ADF Faces component.
    I can do that, I did using javascript and Custom tag,
    but the html link is placed out of the body of the page instead of put it over the place that I put it in development-time
    so, now my question is:
    how I can generate dynamic code using ADF FACES component commandButton or any others.
    any suggestion??
    P.D. if you need more info ask me.

    Hello Jeanne.
    You are right, I used <f:verbatim> element to wrap all my non-JSF elements and it work. :)
    so good so far.
    but, dynamic code mean generate code in this case HTML in run-time.
    That is to say: write code HTML just in time I invoke a page.
    That is posible through Custom Tags.
    You create a Custom Tags this tag generate HTML code after to process any Business Logic. then you put the tag in the page that you want to use it
    someting like this:
    <afh:rowLayout halign="center">
    <afh:cellFormat halign="center">
    <ESE-utilities:populateMenu/>
    </afh:cellFormat>
    </afh:rowLayout>
    the just above bold line is my Custom Tag that generate HTML code
    and not work.
    but, if I replace the tag directly using HTML code in the page, for example:
    <afh:rowLayout halign="center">
    <afh:cellFormat halign="center">
    <f:verbatim>
    prueba
    </f:verbatim>
    </afh:cellFormat>
    </afh:rowLayout>
    it work
    so, now my new question is:
    ¿How can I use a Custom Tagthat generate HTML code, and that code have been written inside of my body page?
    Thanks in advantage for your reply.

  • ADF Faces with ADF BC

    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to map a <af:table> to an ADF Business Component. I can retrieve the records and I can also navigate doing Next and Previous, but I cannot do a Delete of a record. Do you know if there's any kind of "work arround" to use ADF Faces with ADF BC to do a delete or update, etc.?
    Here is the code, you can notice the: <af:tableSelectOne> tag to put the radio buttons colums to select which one to delete, and you can also notice the action="#{row.markForDeletion}" for the commandbutton to perform the delete.
    Jonas Jacobi wrote in his web blog on August 16 that he was going to post some samples for this "work arround" but I think he never posted them.
    Here is the code:
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces/EA12/html" prefix="afh"%><%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jstl/core" prefix="c"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/ui/jsp/adftags" prefix="adf"%>
    <adf:uimodelreference model="table_testUIModel"/>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces/EA12" prefix="af"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%>
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=windows-1252"%>
    <html>
    <head>
    <H1>This is a Test</H1>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">

    </head>
    <body>
    <f:view>
    <afh:head title="tableSelectOne Demo"/>
    <af:panelPage>
    <af:table rows="3" var="row" value="#{bindings.CmSvcView1.rangeSet}" first="0">
    <f:facet name="selection">
    <af:tableSelectOne text="Select and ...">
    <af:commandButton text="Delete" action="#{row.markForDeletion}"/>
    </af:tableSelectOne>
    </f:facet>
    <af:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <af:outputText value="SvcId"/>
    </f:facet>
    <af:outputText value="#{row.SvcId}"/>
    </af:column>
    <af:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <af:outputText value="SvcNum"/>
    </f:facet>
    <af:outputText value="#{row.SvcNum}" styleClass="OraHeaderSubSub"/>
    </af:column>
    <af:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <af:outputText value="SvcName"/>
    </f:facet>
    <af:outputText value="#{row.SvcName}" styleClass="OraHeaderSubSub"/>
    </af:column>
    </af:table>
    </af:panelPage>
    </f:view>
    </body>
    </html>
    Thanks,
    Pablo (sorry for the long post)

    Thank you Gabrielle. At least now I have an excuse to tell my boss why I can't get it to work.
    Any idea when it may be available? Would it be a better idea to implement the table in plain vanilla JSF, and when ADF Faces is ready for ADF BC then do the migration?
    Are there any workarround to this problem?
    Thank you for your time,
    Pablo

  • ADF FACES: Drag&drop of ADF Faces component set all prefixes to af: or :afh

    First i create a JSF page without ADF Faces components;
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=windows-1252"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>
    <f:view>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"></meta>
    <title>
    untitled2
    </title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <h:form>
    <h:outputText value="outputText0"/>
    </h:form>
    </body>
    </html>
    </f:view>
    Then i put the ADF Faces components <af:inputText (or <af:table>) label="Label 0"/> per drag & drop to my JSF page:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=windows-1252"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces/EA11" prefix="af"%>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces/EA11/html" prefix="afh"%>
    <f:view>
    <afh:html>
    <afh:head title="untitled2">
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"></meta>
    </afh:head>
    <afh:body>
    <af:form>
    <h:outputText value="outputText0"/>
    <af:inputText label="Label 0"/>
    </af:form>
    </afh:body>
    </afh:html>
    </f:view>
    !!! All tag prefixes are changed to af: or rather afh: !!!
    Why? Is this a feature? WHERE CAN I DISABLE THIS???
    I read in docs that ADF Faces components works well together with RI components or other and i can mix them.

    I posted about this recently and didn't get a single response. I've scoured the project setting/ preferences and was unable to find any pertinant setting. The workaround i've used is to design the entire page and then use notepad(yep notepad) to add the adf tags. Don't bother trying to open the .jsp/.jspx again in jdev or it will modify the tags. I'm assuming this will be addressed in the production release and am hoping this is not a branding issue.
    I'd love to hear a products person address this.

  • Deploying JSF - ADF Faces (EA14) application to OAS 10.1.2

    JSF 1.1.01 problem
    I have an ADF Faces application that I have been working on in JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.2.223 and I thought that it was time to deploy it to an Oracle 10g AS (10.1.2) (WindowsXP SP2). A long time ago I did a test deploy of a sample program jsflogin and that works fine (although I now realize that this was a JSF 1.0 application) and my ADF application is, of course, JSF 1.1.
    As I've already said, my JSF 1.1 / ADF application works perfectly in JDeveloper. The problem is that the first time the OAS 10.1.2 deployed instance of my application hits a <f:tag> it fails. When the first <f:tag> was <f:loadBundle> the error looked like this:
    500 Internal Server Error
    java.lang.NullPointerException     at com.sun.faces.taglib.jsf_core.LoadBundleTag.doStartTag(LoadBundleTag.java:96)

    The rest is the same as above.
    I've got all the jsf, jstl, standard, and other jars in my WEB-INF/lib folder and there are no other jsf or jstl jars in the OAS home so I can't be connecting to the "wrong" library.
    Any hints? Has someone else out there successfully deployed to 10.1.2?
    Thanks in advance, Mark

    Okay, so my problem was that the URL I was using was the OC4J launch url (http://host/applicationname and my welcome-file-list was
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>LoginPage.jsp</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    I tried these two variations
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>LoginPage.faces</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>faces/LoginPage.jsp</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    and neither of these worked either. (I did restart the OC4J node between each attempt.)
    I finally created an index.html file for the application with an automatic refresh content="0;URL=faces/LoginPage.jsp" and this is working.
    Should the welcome-file-list have worked? Am I doing something wrong here?
    Thanks for the help. Mark

  • Problems while deploying a JSF/ ADF Faces App to Apps Server 10.1.3.0.1

    Dear All,
    I built a JSF based application (Using ADF Faces Components) developed in JDeveloper 10.1.3.1.0 (Application Configuration: [JSF, ADF BC]. The application is running fine with the embedded OC4J intance (automatically aunch by JDeveloper).
    I am now trying to deploy it on the installed Oracle Application Server (running on the same local machine). The details of the versioning for different components in this App server are as follows:
    1. OracleAS J2EE 10.1.3.0.0
    2. Oracle ADF 10.1.3.1.0
    The deployment steps I followed (as given in Chapter 34 of 'Oracle ADF - Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers') seems to be running smoothly. This is because the deploy process ends up showing no erros in the message window.
    However when I tried to test the application with a browser using the Apps Server URL (HTTP://localhost:8888/<my-app>/<firstfile.jspx>), I am finding 'Page not found error'.
    I also tried a manual deployment (using deploy to a WAR file then copy the resulting war & ear files and the xml descriptor file to the Apps server's http root) and gives the war file URL in the browser.
    In this case now I am getting the following error page:
    =====================================================
    The XML page cannot be displayed
    Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.
    An invalid character was found in text content. Error processing resource
    'http://localhost:8888/HousingWithADF.war'.
    =====================================================
    Any idea?
    Regards,
    Irfan Ilyas
    PS: I am doubtful about creation of Deployment Descriptors step as the documentation is not very clear about exactly which descriptors we need to create. Using my own idea, I tried to create J2EE descriptor, and one tld (taglibrary) file. However, the manual war deployment generates only the tld file in the deploy folder.

    Thanks for the hint.
    OBSERVATION #1:
    After looking through the administration console for OC4J instance, I found my application name with UP status. When drill-down further, the console gives me the URL which can be used to test the application.
    While using the URL, a different error message was found:
    URL: http://localhost:8888/KFUPMHousing/
    Error:
    ====================
    HTTP 403:(Forbidden)
    ================
    You are not authorized to view this page
    You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied.
    From my experience of Microsoft IIS, I know here I may need to configure the folder permissions for a web-user. But exactly which user and where it is defined (at OS Level or in AS), I am not much sure.
    Can you elaborate?
    OBSERVATION #2:
    The log text for my application shows the following error (for the attempt I did with the URL shown above)
    Log Text
    07/01/05 22:43:38.62 HousingWithADF: JspServlet: unable to dispatch to requested page: Exception:java.io.FileNotFoundException: C
    :\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\j2ee\home\applications\HousingWithADF\HousingWithADF\HosReqInfo.jspx (The system cannot find the file specified)
    However, I can browse the file on my local disk in the path specified with a little change in the path. The file is found in 'pages' folder within the last folder,named HousingWIthADF. I tried to move the file in the exact path specified in the log and now finding the 'Page not found' error.
    Any idea?

  • Validation messages in JSF (when not using ADF faces)

    I've spent some time with JDeveloper 11 and would like to use it on an upcoming project. I have to target IE 6, so I won't be able to take advantage of ADF Faces. Instead I'd like to use the ADF Business Components with a standard JSF interface so it can be used by people still running IE 6.
    I've created a Business Component from a database table and can bind a JSF HTML Creation Form by dragging the appropriate view from the AppModule in the Data Controls pane. However, when I attempt to submit the page without all the fields being valid I get the following validation error message:
    j_id__ctru2:j_id__ctru6: Validation Error: Value is required. j_id__ctru2:j_id__ctru6: Validation Error: Value is required.
    I've tried making this more descriptive, but editing the error message in the Validation Rules section of the Business Component has no effect. What's the best way to convey a meaningful validation message to the user when not using ADF Faces?
    Also - I'm still very new to JDeveloper. Since I won't be able to rely on my users having Internet Explorer 7, would you recommend I stay with JDeveloper 10? The examples and documentation I've seen so far for JDeveloper 11 appear heavily biased towards using ADF Faces so I'm starting to wonder how much support is there for using plain old JSF.
    Thanks for your time!

    Hi,
    if you are completely new to this then I suggest to use JDeveloper 10.1.3 and ADF Faces in there. Its good to use with IE6 as well. Currently we do have more tutorials available for this release than for 11, which for this reason is a better choice for someone new to this

  • JSF/ADF Faces - ADF-BC example/howto?

    Hi,
    Background:
    ==========
    I know that ADF-BC databinding is not included in the JDev 10.1.3 preview.
    I read and searched nearly all howto's, examples, blogs on ADF-Faces available on the net.
    For the past months I learned how to use the ADF-BC with JClient.
    This convinced me to use the ADF-BC and it's binding features (a fantastic framework!!!!) for my model layer.
    I'm developping a web application.
    Most of the examples on ADF-Faces/JSF are on the View Layer.
    My question:
    ===========
    I read somewhere that JDev 10.1.3 production with drag and drop of ADF-BC databinding will be available only in the summer.
    Question 1:
    ==========
    I suppose that meanwhile it is still possible to use the ADF-BC as the model layer for JSF or ADF-Faces, but the databinding must be done manually, is this correct?
    Question 2:
    ==========
    If answer to 1) is yes.
    Where can I find a howto/best practice document that explains how to use ADF-BC with JSF/ADF-Faces in the backing beans?
    My purpose is to develop my code so that it will be "standard" / "compatible" with the production version of JDev 10.1.3.
    I prefer to use the de-facto JSF standard and code the bindings manualy instead of using Struts with available drag'n drop ADF-BC databinding.
    Your advice will be apreciated
    Frederic

    There is no such document for (1) because we are in the process of delivering design time support for ADF BC integration with ADF Faces, as you mentioned.
    Therefore, you could either continue with ADF UIX, ADFm, ADF BC for the time being, or else try out ADF Faces with session scope Managed Beans. In either case, you'll want to convert this later on, when JDev 10.1.3 completes its support for ADF Faces / ADF BC drag-and-drop integration.
    Kind Regards.

  • Weblogic Portal 10.3.5 using JSF 1.2 portlets with ADF faces

    We are developing Portal site using Weblogic Portal 10.3.5 with JSF portlet 1.2 and ADF faces (ADF Application runtime 11.1.1.5 ). But the JSF portlets not supporting ADF faces. Please let me know how we use ADF faces in JSF portlet 1.2 in Weblogic Portal.

    Hi Murthy,
    We did a detailed analysis.
    (1) How do we add ADF taskflows, JSF in to weblogic portal desktop/pages? Do we create portlet out of JSF, and display on desktop/page? If this is the case, what about ADf task flows?
    --> Taskflows can be deployed as WSRP2.0 portlets. Note 2 options are there JSF page as portlet or taskflow itself as portlets.
    (2) How do we integrate weblogic user profiles and UUP (unified user profiles) with ADF and JSF?
    --> ADF Security can use Weblogic Server realm as the security provider. Entitlements in WLP will have to be provided based on Weblogic Server roles. In case you are using external LDAP then both can be integrated withe external LDAP
    (3) Can anybody shed some light which this better?
    (a) weblogic portal with JPF (Java page flows), NetUI --Legacy approach
    Pros:
    -Easy Development
    -Well tested integrated
    Cons:
    -Future support
    -Enhancements may not be available
    -Not really portable or standards based
    (b) weblogic portal with ADF, JSF?
    Pros:
    -If your on Oracle stack then great
    -Standards based
    Cons:
    -JSF Portlet bridge issues
    -ADF Faces does not work on IE6!
    Well what we are going for is JSR 286, Trinidad components (Supports IE6), JSF.
    Difficult choice.

    i want to know more about state management of adf data model..
    1. under what condition, will the data in the binding context
    (methodIterator, variableIterator, accessorIterator..etc) be maintained accross
    http requests? say browse pageA.jspx, pageB.jspx, pageC.jspx..then do data
    in the corresponding pages saved somewhere else until session timeout?
    2. how do the binding context data be saved ?? http session?
    i can't find detail information in the adf bc dev guide and the adf dev guide..
    could anyone give me more information about this?? any better document??
    i have asked these question several times...but seem nobody can give me a
    full picture about the adf data model's state management....it is quite important
    in order to develop good application using adf data model.
    my company have brought oracle's support service...can i get these information
    through metalink (open a SR) ?? or actually no such information available ??
    btw, after playing with adf data model for a few weeks, i do find it is very
    hard to learn it... no complete document, information is just by providing example...
    adf data model do make:
    1. simple logic, supported by adf, more simple in coding
    2. simple logic, not supported by adf, more complex in coding
    3. complex logic, much more complex in coding...brain damage..

    Hi,
    actually, these pages don't explain the state management about the adf data model's iterators?
    i want to know the state management of the iterators...for some iterators..it's
    state is maintained across requests...
    please see my previous post: ADF JSF data binding: why state maintained between requests? that Frank Nimphius said:
    "in this case its the iterator that survives the page navigation"...
    in the adf dev guide..section 5.5.5..it says: "Upon each request, the iterator bindings are refreshed to rebind them to the
    underlying RowSetIterator objects. By default, the rowset iterator state and the
    data caches are maintained between requests."
    in dev guide, it seems state is maintained for request for the same page, but not
    accross different pages. but in fact, the rowset iterator do survive...
    any detail document that write down the actual behavior of the iterators?
    thank you.

  • Can i use ADF faces in Eclipse to develop JSF applications

    Hi,
    i have used Jdeveloper to develop JSF based application but for some reasons
    i need to run this application in Ecplise. Is there any possibility for that.

    Yes,
    you can run ADF Faces applications in Eclipse. However, if you use ADF for binding then this may be a bit more complicated

  • ADF Faces: When to expect production ready JSF components

    I know this question has been asked many times, but there is no up to date information as to schedules. What are the time lines for releasing ADF faces components into production?
    Great things have been promised in demos at JavaOne and the like. In particular rich tables generated from AJAX JSF.
    I have seen webcasts promising the components by fall. Well September is close approaching, does this mean we should see the complete set of JSF components imminently?

    Thanks for your response. However, I have previously been through all the examples and am familiar with the functionality that af:table provides.
    I have a set of data intensive applications to write that require data entry in a tabular form for speed.
    Now I know af:table allows them to do this, but some functions such as keyboard cursor key navigation is none-existent.
    My question was what functionality would the richer table control have and how easy would it be to convert to this new component once available.
    Many thanks.

  • [ANN] JSF and ADF Faces Q&A online session today

    Join us for an online discussion and ask your questions about JSF and ADF Faces. Today (Thu) at 10:00am PST (California time).
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/newsletter/seminars.html

    Great here are a few IF there is time:
    1. How round trips will JSF and ADF Faces take upon initial page load? In other words, does the initial page load come with data already populated? This makes a difference for those of us who have data heavy pages with lots of lag. Currently with ADF - UIX it seems as though the page is loaded and then round trips are taken to populate the data in the page.
    2. Is a JSF and ADF faces project in future versions of JDeveloper more easily/efficiently source controlled than current ADF/UIX projects?
    3. What is the extent of the involvement of the struts framework in JSF and ADF Faces?
    Thanks very much Shay.
