Equivalent rect long and short sides

Not so sure if anybody else already came across this problem or not. Any suggestion is welcome.
I have a simple isolated object to be fitted into an ideal rectangle which will then be used for a metrology purpose in following step. I was trying to make use of the equivalent rect long and shot sides from particle analysis operation, but it seems the particle analysis always gives a same value to the long side and short side. Attached picture shows the calculation results from vision assistant. I tried to calculate the equivalent rect sides from the given area and perimeter. The results tends to become complex values as the perimeter seems smaller than it should be(i.e.. P^2 smaller than 16*A). It may be one reason to produce same value to equivalent rect long and short side.
PS: the expression for calculation of equivalent rect long and short side in the page: http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/372916L-01/nivisionconcepts/particle_measurements/ seems not right. It should be (P-sqrt(P^2-16A))/4, rather than P/4-sqrt(P^2-16A).

I am assuming you are using the latest version of Vision Assistant 2011 SP1.
I would just like to clarify what you are trying to achieve. This is to measure the long and short (length and width) side of a rectangular shape in your image by using:
Processing Functions: Binary >> Particle analysis
Something I could suggest is to play around with a more definative rectangle and see if this helps. I have tried using a rectangle and the measurements have come out fine.
The shape you are measuring happens to have the same size dimensions i.e. a square.
Where are you acquiring your image from? And are you expecting it to be a square?
With regards to the formulas being incorrect I will look into this for you.

HP C7280 all-in-one duplex printing problem - Long and short sided binding!

I use a HP 7280 all-in-one printer and have the duplexer attached. Up to installing snow leopard I have been able to print two sided documents from ipages no problems. But now every time I try to print a two sided document in flips the second side vertically (basically meaning it is binding is always long edge). When I change the setting from long edge binding to short side it makes no difference at all!!! I know this used to work, but it appears snow leopard changed that!! Any suggestion to fix the problem, thanks

One of the common issues with automatic duplexing, is the requirement of increased margins due to the way that the process works. It is not a defect, it is simply the way that the process needs to ensure print quality when auto duplexing. In contrast, manual duplexing does not have the same needs, as it draws directly from the tray. From testing of other brands, I can say that I have seen the margin issue occur with other manufacturers as well. Seems to be a necessary evil when auto duplexing.

Downsides of changing owner name, Long and short?

I have a bunch of Macs and I am thinking of changing their names both the "official" long name and the nickname (short) name. With Leopard it is now possible to change not only the short name but also the home directory and even user and group ids (501, etc)
I know that TM will most likely create a new backup since it is based on the computer name.
Other than that, what can I expect to happen?
Basically, when I got my new MBP I did the Setup Assistant thing, so two computers had the same name.
Later when I networked them, one was changed to Same Name (2) which is fine. And nothing happened.
But these two boxes still have the same short name.
Again, if I change one to a different short name, what happens? Boom! or simply BSD takes care of the various ownerships and such and it becomes a transparent change?

That UID you refer to, is that that very long number UUID? Or is that something else again?
Actually I think I can leave the short name the same and only change the sharing name, which is what is seen on the network.
Lastly, I hope, what if I were to change the User Name in the User Preferences? I know that the default sharing name is based on this by adding an " 's " and the word Computer.
On the other hand, perhaps the main User Name is not important for what I want to do which is primarily to have unique names on the network rather than the ugly "X Y's Computer (2)" which is what happened the first time I connected them
With TM, I trust that anything I do that is not a good thing can be remedied by using the Wayback Machine.

Editing a recording to make 2 versions (longer and shorter for a special topic)

I recorded a multi-topic session as a single 2 hour recording. I was able to edit out the "lag" portions of the session so I have a nice final presentation of the various speakers/ topics. However, I want to also produce a 2nd recording of just the last speaker/ topic, without destroying the longer version. I could edit out the first hour (first 3 speakers) and save that, but then that would destroy the longer version.
Is there a way to duplicate the recording, so that I can preserve the full version, but then edit the duplicated recording to edit it down for just the last speaker/ topic? I can't find a way to do this within Adobe Connect editing. Do I have to export the file to Flash (FLV) or MP4 and then try to find a way to edit that file down to get just the last topic? Any ideas?

The best solution would be to pull the recording files down from the server and then re-upload them, so you have two version of the recording, with different URLs. Then you can edit each one separate from the other.
To do this add /output/NAME.zip?download=zip to the URL for your recording. Name the zip file whatever you want. You will download a zip file. Don't extract or mess with the zip file, just upload it back to the Connect server in the desired location in the Content library. You can even give it a custom URL!
Then you will have two versions of the recording on the server that you can do with as you please.

T61p exhibiting 1 long and 2 short beep and black screen

There have been multiple discussions over the past months concerning a 1 long and 2 short beep symptom on some T61 and T61p model systems. Over the last several weeks members have begun to start additional topics on this theme and cross post between threads.
I am consolidating all the threads into this new discussion today. Since many of these discussions were originally parallel, the dates and some of the context will now appear somewhat out of chronological order. Please keep that in mind while browsing this thread.
If you are presently experiencing the 1 long and 2 short beep code with a black screen on boot up, I would recommend that you contact service at this time for assistance.

Previously, I have advised customers to contact service for assistance with the symptoms discussed here. In an effort to maintain customer satisfaction and loyalty, Lenovo has repaired a number of systems as post warranty exceptions. Lenovo will continue the post warranty support; however, with some revisions to the extended coverage effective December 31, 2010.
Customers who experience these symptoms on qualifying models that are no more than six months beyond expiration of warranty should continue to contact support for assistance. This additional coverage ends March 31, 2011.
Coverage beyond this date is available under the terms and conditions of extended warranty or maintenance agreements. Warranty extensions may be purchased for systems that are still within the base warranty period, and post warranty maintenance agreements may be purchased to provide coverage after base and extended warranty periods have expired. Extended warranties and maintenance agreements are a great way to ensure coverage for all the major system components.

2 is a coincidence, 3 is a pattern... and your problem is identical to mine, too, and happened just some days after mine did...
It seems to me, without wanting to be alarmist, that the T61p with the 570M gpu (or a batch of them) is failing with the same exact problem (1 long 2 short = GPU error) at the exact same time... scary thought, really.
Mine arrived at the lenovo repair center (it's still on warranty) on wednesday, and the status shows as "Repair complete, shipped to customer" as of yesterday. There is no tracking number or "Failing Element / part number" in the status page, tho. It hasn't arrived, either.
Do you know your planar card / motherboard part number? It would be interesting to know if it's the same as mine (42W7653). Were you affected by the problem shown at http://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&thread.id=30460&view=by_date_a... ?
And once Mark_Lenovo reads this, Mark, do you need any info? (serial number for the laptop, easyserv reference, etc?)
EDIT/UPDATE:
I called the EasyServ warranty customer support to ask if they had any additional info not in the website, and as a matter of fact they do. The (very, very helpful and nice) man on the phone told me that the motherboard had been replaced and the laptop was due to arrive today, and he gave the UPS tracking number for it, which indeed says it's scheduled to arrive here today, at some point.
Once it's here I'll update with information about the actual repair and the part number of the new motherboard, etc.
To be honest I'm more than pleasantly surprised about the service: the box for shipping my laptop arrived on wednesday, it was picked up that very same day, the laptop was repaired on thursday and arrives to me today, friday. If the laptop works as expected, this is a 10 out of 10 for lenovo customer support, at least for me.
I'm less-than-happy about the quality of the product, of course, but at least I got the 3-year warranty so lenovo paid for everything.

After updating to ios 7.1 my iPhone 5s battery *****. It takes longer to charge and shorter to finish.

3 months back I upgraded from iPhone 4s to 5s and realised 4s is a much better phone. It gave me longer battery life of around 8.30 hrs of usage on 2g and 7 hrs on 3G but 5s was giving me only 7 hours of usage on 2g and 5 hours on 3g but since I've updated it to ios 7.1 my battery ***** even more. It takes longer to charge and shorter to drain. Now I get only 4 hours usage on 2g and somewhat 3hrs roughly on 3G and it takes around 3 hours to charge where awe it used to take only 100 minutes perfectly. I don't know what's wrong with apple. I was a huge apple fan when I had my 4s but now I'm disappointed. But worst thing comes last night, I usually lose around 10% due to my network's pop up messages overnight but last night i lost 37%. When I got up and checked usage it shows me 6 hrs 30 minutes usage but I haven't used my phone since I was sleeping. Hope a new update releases soon to patch this but till that some advices on saving battery would be appreciated, thank you.

Please be more specific. What have you tried already? Please follow the below steps as described also in another topic by Nathan.
1. Hard reset hold both buttons until Apple logo appears.
2. Restore from an iTunes sync and backup. This made a difference for a lot of peopel, battery life got much better.
3. Limit push notifications (apps and e-mail accounts - set e.g. e-mail to fetch once an hour) to those you really need.
4. Limit location services to those you really need, and watch to see if the indicator comes up.
5. Get the app System Activity Monitor to look for a runaway process that is using a lot of CPU.
6. Suggestion by others to reset all settings.
7. Suggestion by others that iCloud may be involved, and to try to turn off some iCloud settings.
8. Limit or turn off 'background app refresh'.
9. Add apps back in carefully to identify an offending app that is causing CPU or network activity that kills battery life.
10 Also make sure that e-mail is fetched (e.g. every hour) or set to manual instead of pushed.
11 Do you have a good carrier reception? Have you tried to manual set your carrier within your iPhone instead of the 'automatic'?
12 Have you checked if the timezone is set to manual instead of automatic and see if this makes a difference in battery use?
In my case it was a bug with an app that caused the battery drain. I also noticed that the use and stand-by time were exactly the same which is ofcourse not correct. This was all caused by this app which was using GPS tracking all the time. Unfortunately an app such as System Activity Monitor did not indicate that in my case but someone posted this solution on a Dutch forum that the previous version of the app 'Scoupy' had a bug and caused this battery drain.
If you haven't tried every single one of these, please do not post that battery life is terrible.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your data. It sounds like you need to sign into your own Apple ID again on the iPad, then download your previously purchased iPad apps again. We have an article on how to do exactly this, and it can be found right here:

When you associate a phone number with iMessage that is currently signed into an Apple ID it becomes tied to that Apple ID, so any other device that uses that Apple ID has access to that phone number for iMessage.
eg. I use iMessage on my iPhone which uses the same Apple ID as my iPad, as such I receive iMessages sent to my iPhone on my iPad aswell, and can respond to the same conversation on either.

This laptop bought in the middle of 2007, It doesn't have any problem till today. When I am working then it suddenly not funtion with black screen. I've powered off and on again, it sounds 3 bips, first bip is long and the rest is short. The leg of HDD and DVD and power still light, and when I press ctrl + alt + del it can restart. I also make clean RAM and reseat them, but still same.

Many thinkpads have international warranty since Thinkpad are aimed at business people, whom may travel abroad quite a lot during the laptop's warranty period, therefore many business laptop like Thinkpad have international warranty. So that in case your laptop fails while you are overseas, you will still be covered for repair as part of the regular warranty services. (Also, the international warranty follows the model number of your machine, and it is set so you can't upgrade to get more coverage).
Depot warranty versus Onsite Warranty is the one thing that you should contemplate when you are selecting warranty.
Depot means that you have to send the laptop back to a repair shop (or depot) to get it fixed. While, onsite means the repair technician comes to your home or your work (which ever is more convenient for you) to fix the laptop during 9 am to 5 pm weekday. This usually means that you don't have to be without the laptop for 5 or more days (that is the usual turnaround time for depot repair provided parts are available).

Try using the app Viber, i sent a video from my iphone 5 to my sisters Acer phone via this Viber app and she got the 3minute video perfect. I imagine they will allow as many minutes of a video that ya want to send

[NEED HELP] 1 long and 2 short beeps

I have built a new pc and I almost finished and Im using the z97 msi gaming 7 motherboard. When I turn the computer on I starts up but then shuts down again.
The beeps I'm getting is 1 long and 2 short which I think is the video card or something, which i have reinstalled (it may be just 2 beeps aswell. 1 long beep when starts 2 when it shuts down.) The beeps are very quiet.
After it has shut down it will start itself again many times until I have to switch off the PSU. I have tried reinstalling the GPU's as said and the RAM. If you need any info on what parts I have just tell me.
I have also tried another pair of RAM sticks I had lying around, but I still get the same error so I don't know if the problem is the RAM.
When I completely remove the RAM sticks theres 3 long very loud beeps, but the computer doesnt turn off.
When I remove the two msi 970gtx gpu's completely and use the hdmi from the motherboard I still get 1 long and 2 short beeps before it powers off and then restarts the process until I switch off the PSU.

Okay, I have checked the pins and reinstalled everything. All of the pins seemed fine and I cant see any scratches on the motherboard anywhere. I did some breadboard testing (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/289442-30-motherboard) and following this it seems like there is something wrong with the RAM. The system beeps 3 times without any ram, but when I add one stick of RAM (8GB) it starts up but doesn't beep. It also doesnt beep if I add in a GPU. If I remove the stick of RAM and just leave the GPU in there I will beep one time very loud (louder and longer than before). When I had it installed in the case it would beep for startup once and then beep twice for videocard error and it would shutdown and then restart, but now It will just keep running until I turn off the PSU. I have tried with another pair of MEM sticks which should also be compatible with the board but it stil doesn't make a sound. I have tried my current PSU on some other parts and it will run just fine (don't have a second PSU). Any thing else I should test?

Yet another example of why it's a VERY BAD IDEA to do a clean install of Lion unless you are already VERY familiar with how to tweak the Mac OS. There's a reason Apple engineers removed it as an option. To accomplish it you have to erase your disk; not for the faint hearted.
Do you have a backup? PLEASE don't tell us you did this without a robust backup.
You erased the operating machine, so your computer went to the only place it could find one, the Recovery partition. And it's minimal, so it has to download everything in small chunks to reinstall itself. So yeah, it could take 10 hours.
Here's another option. Do you still have the original disks that came with your machine? Put one in and restart from it. You can reinstall your old system much faster. Then go to the Mac App Store and your purchase history and see if you can redownload Lion (I think that still works).
And this time just do yourself a favor and install per Apple's instructions. When the machine starts into Lion, use Setup ***'t (the first thing that fires up) to migrate from your backup.
